Anxious to promote the development and full flowering of his gifts, his parents sent him to Blois for drawing lessons. They then sent him to Rennes, the chief city of Brittany, to attend the classes of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Three years of steady work there further developed his skill in drawing, so evident today in the accuracy of each line in his canvases. The flower carts in the spring, the book stalls along the Seine, the Champs-Elysees filled with bustling crowds after a rain, street cafes with their brilliant glow of lights reflected in the street and silhouetting passerby, the famous and historic buildings all furnished subjects for his brush. He employed rich color in muted resonance, brilliantly accented with touches of almost electric color in the skies or on the streets themselves. Blanchard was both artist and poet in developing his beautiful studies of Paris.

    Extractions: His father had a successful business and upon his death, Antoine was compelled to return to his hometown and run the family business – giving him little time to paint. It wasn’t till after World War II that he retired from the business and returned to his first love – painting. He moved his family to Paris and began to paint the “City of Lights”. Like his contemporary, Edouard Cortes, he devoted his artistic career to the depiction of Paris through all its daily and seasonal changes. Whether it was l’Arc de Triomphe, la Madeleine, Café de la Paix, Notre Dame or the dozens of other historical monuments and buildings of Paris, his focus was on the daily life of Paris at the turn of the century. His work became highly sought after and collectors from around the world vied to acquired his new works. Today his is considered one of the leading exponents of the School of Paris painters

ANTOINE BLANCHARD A Vision of Paris Antoine Blanchard was born in France on November 15, 1910 in a small village near the banks of the Loire. He was the eldest of three children and his father, a carver, managed a small carpentry and furniture shop. Antoine would watch his father hand carve the furniture and began to display an artistic flair early in life - in an effort to promote this talent, his parents sent him to Blois for drawing lessons. He continued his training in Rennes at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he studied sculpture and drawing. Upon completion of his studies, he was awarded the schools highest award: Le Prix du Ministre

Like his predecessors, the French masters Galien-Laloue, Cortes, Loir and Utrillo, Blanchard has made an impact on contemporary art. Born in 1910 in a small village near Blois in the Loire Valley, Blanchard was encouraged at a young age to enter the arts. His parents first sent him as a young boy to an art school in Blois, and then relocated the entire family to Rennes in Brittany so that young Antoine could study there at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Three years later, in 1932, the young artist moved to Paris in order to Study at its world famous Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Upon completion of his studies, Blanchard was awarded the Prix de Rome, an honor rarely given to an artist of his young age.
