4-0 out of 5 stars MAGNIFICAS ILUSTRACIONES!!!
Este libro cuenta con magnificas ilustraciones de las pinturas.La información sobre el artista es muy detallada y el libro es de buena calidad en cuanto a material y estructura.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvilleux Renoir!
Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) represented by far, one the lofty painters of the second half of the XIX Century. His enslaving talent allowed to make a true sweep through the most diverse tendencies. His visible influences received from Courbet, Van Gogh and Delacroix, did not leave on him, a perennial trace. The presence of Cézanne and Monet irrupted strongly in the necessity of rejecting the conservative patterns and raid in new stylistic proposals. He was not only a notable Realist artist but also crossed the Impressionist threshold, in an untiring process of self renovation and ferventconveyance.

"Nowadays there is a tendency to explain everything. But if I could explainpainting, it would not an artwork. Must I tell you what qualities constitute to my judge, the true art? It must be indescribable and inimitable...The artwork must captive the watcher, bundle him, drag him. Through it, the artist communicates his passion; it is the current that emits and through includes the watcher in itself:"Renoir.

Admirable and compelling biography that it will catch you from the first page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Geniuses' full color reproductions.
I'm in love with The Impressionists in general and with Auguste Renoir in particular.
His palette is full of light; soft pink, greens and blues are a joy to watch time and again. As most Impressionists Renoir paint wonderful every day scenes, mainly outside as his magnificent: "The Luncheon of the Boating Party" (1881), "The Swing" (1876) and "Le Moulin de la Galette" (1876), whose careful reproductions are shown here.
He was an artist that loved life and wanted to reflect it as he perceived: full of little moments of simple joy and relax.
He was also a masterful portrayer as you may see from his "On the Terrace" (1881) in the cover of this book or "Two Girls in Black" (1881).
Another subject that attracted his fancy was the dancing couple, which he depicts with tenderness and accuracy. It doesn't matter if the dancers are from the high class as in "City Dance" or commoners as in "Dance at Bougival" both from 1883.
At the end of his life his paintings evolve and produce for our delight: "Seated Bather" (1914) and "The Nymphs" (1918).
His life and works are described and commented by the author with keen penetration and endearment.
Reproductions are awesome and do justice to the Artist.
Do not miss this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing. Very short. very few pictures.
Very diappointed. I got a nice Kandinsky book, hardback, with about 40 prints. This book was $7.00 and had very little material. Worth about $.50.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fine, simple book
Using simple language book covers Renoir's life & painting career with surprising alacrity & detail.Good prints.Shipped as promised & in excellent shape.

5-0 out of 5 stars The young have a good time with Renoir's joy of life scenes
"Occasionally, Renoir would paint landscapes and still lifes, but his favorite subjects were always people.", p. 29

The young reader will learn about Renoir's birth in Limoges, France; his family's move to Pariswhen he was young; his early drawings using his tailor father's chalk; hisworking years in a workshop painting decorations on china; his learning theformal method of painting in the studio of Charles Gleyre; and hisparticipation in the creation of the "Impressionism".

Renoirwas a rarity in that he was successful at painting in many styles. He wasvery versatile. Most painters lock themselves into a painting method andstick with it for awhile. All their paintings during that period of timeuse the same method.Renoir locked into what he painting and let itdetermine the method. If he were painting outdoors, he would chooseimpressionism with an emphasis on people having a good time more so thanthe outdoor setting. If he were doing a portrait, he would typicallychoose the older style but with less formality. His chose of method wouldbe similar to a photographer choosing to use black and white film forcertain shots and color film for others.Children are very sensitive totheir surroundings.Their response can at time be instantaneous. They gowith the moment and therefore will appreciate Renoir's similar approach.

My favorite painting in the book is Renoir's "Umbrellas".Helet the figures chose the method. He chose impressionism for the moreformally attired, and he utilized a more formal method for the lessformally dressed woman on errands with her basket.

Venezia'sillustrations are humorous. His narrative is delightfully entertaining. His approach brings the artist within reach of the young.Hisembellishment of the variety of surfaces on which the young Renoir chose todraw with chalk is creatively done.

The size of the book is perfect forsmaller hands. It enables the young to have art within their grasp. Venezia gives the locations of the paintings and as result if the childlives near one of the museums or will be near one on vacation, she/he wouldbe able to see the original.

This is the 20th in Venezia's"Getting to know the World's Greatest Artist" series. His seriesis a wonderful way for the young to be first introduced to the brillianceof artists. He also has a similar series on composers.Venezia's backcover illustration ties back to the subject."While studying Renoirand the Impressionist movement of the 19th century, Mike was inspired to...".

The price of the book is well worth paying.Venezia includespieces by the artist, pieces by the artist's colleagues and art stylesreferenced. The book contains the following:Renoir's paintings (16);Venezia's illustrations (6); Others' paintings (8) and paintings on a vase(1). ... Read more

Product Description
Pierre-Auguste Renoir once wrote to a friend,Although we don t eat every day, I m still quite cheerful.Like many painters, Renoir was always happy with a paintbrush in his hand. He was a productive Impressionist artist, creating more than 7,000 paintings, drawings, and sculptures during his lifetime. Renoir is best known for portraits of engaging children, lovely women, and sensual nudes. After years of struggle to earn enough money to eat and pay the rent, Renoir began making a comfortable living painting portraits of wealthy patrons. His fame grew, and his paintings sold to rich collectors. Despite his growing fame, Renoir remained a shy, humble family man. He adored his wife Aline and his children. He maintained close friendships with other artists Monet, Sisley, and Bazille. He had no interest in fame, just in painting beautiful pictures. Why shouldn t art be pretty?he asked. There are enough unpleasant things in the world. ... Read more
