Excerpt: Larry Richard Csonka (born December 25, 1946) is a former collegiate and professional American football fullback. One of six children, Csonka was born in Stow, Ohio. He was raised on a farm by his Hungarian family in Stow. He weighed almost ten pounds at birth, 150 pounds at the age of 12, 237 pounds at the age of 16. He began his football career at Stow-Munroe Falls High School as the starting tailback on the 1963 Stow Bulldogs squad that won the Metropolitan League of the Akron, Ohio, area championship under coach Dick Fortner. He played for Stow from 19601963. Csonka became a running back by accident. Because of his size, he played defensive end on the varsity team as a sophomore. In the last game that year, he was sent in as a substitute on the kickoff return team. The ball just happened to go to him and he took off running with it. Wrote Csonka, I ran over two tacklers before I realized what I was doing. I didn't score or save the game, but I got a tremendous feeling carrying the ball. I was thrashing around, trying to run six ways at once. I loved it. I knew then that I wanted to run with the ball.Even so, the next year Csonka had a tough time before the start of the season convincing his teammates and coaches that he could play running back. They said he was too big and too slow. But he did well in the first game of the season, and from then on no one doubted him. Csonka was recruited by Clemson, Iowa, Vanderbilt, and Syracuse. He chose Syracuse, where he played fullback from 196567 and was named an All-American. He established many of the school's rushing records, including some previously held by Ernie Davis, Jim Nance, Floyd Little, and Jim Brown. In his three seasons at Syracus...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=275966 ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Always will be "On the run" in my mind. The best backfield duo ever! '72 Dolphins will always be the greatest Pro Football team
Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick (along with
Eugene 'Merc' Morris are still the top
three rushers in Miami Dolphins history!
A-mazing! First read this book when my
dad (another 'ass-busting' Hungarian)
bought it for my 25 years ago! Still
love it! What a great era for Pro
Football. When I talked to Zonk @ the
Super Bowl M.V.P gig @ Super Bowl XXXVII
in San Diego in Jan. 24th or 25th of
'03 Zonk says he can't even stand to
watch the NFL anymore. He'd rather
watch the CFL or Arenaball. Sad in-
dictment of how far the NFL has eroded!
(Even though I love the CFL and Ar.FL
myself). Keep those great outdoor shows
comin' Zonk. You'll always be "On the run"
in my mind! - R.A.S.

5-0 out of 5 stars Butch and Sundance
I read this book about 30 years after it was published. I found it to be interesting, often humorus, and an enjoyable tale of friendship and of a more innocent day of NFL football, before the multi-million dollar contracts put a breach between players and fans.

Csonka and kickk have a genuine and easy chemistry between them and they both seem like down to earth, no put-on airs, type guys. The kind of guys it would have been fun to have a few beers with. Sad that after this book was published the dynamic duo of the Miami backfield was broken up while still in their primes by the WFL. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars One of many books written on the greatest FB in Pro Football history
I have my own story of meeting one of my
boyhood idols, in an earthly sense, the
best FB in Pro Football history. I met
Larry at the Miami Dolphins 30-year anni-
versary of the greatest Pro Football
team of alltime, 1972 Miami Dolphins
in San Diego 2 Super Bowl XXXVII, in
Jan. '03. What a nice guy. Gave him
one of my cards and when I got home
I signed in on his website guest book.
Great website too! larrycsonakdotcom.
Plenty of Outdoor stuff from his eight
years on the OLN, ESPN2 and other net-
works with his very good outdoor shows.
The best book by/about Zonk is the one
he did with buddy, fellow former Dolphin
RB Jim Kiick back in '74 (1st edition)
and '75 (WFL-2nd edition), "Always on
the run". Look for it while it's still
out there! - R.A.S. ... Read more

Chapters: Donald Trump, Burt Reynolds, A. Alfred Taubman, Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick, Edward J. Debartolo, Sr., Max Fisher, Bill Daniels, David Dixon, Randy Vataha, Eddie Einhorn, John Bassett. Excerpt:A. Alfred Taubman Taubman pioneered the modern shopping mall concept. Two stories let shoppers make a complete circuit past every store. Artificial lighting supplements fading daylight and entices people to keep shopping past dusk. Unlike old-fashioned city downtowns in which car-laden streets hampered across-the-street shopping, the mall increases exposure. The Mall at Short Hills in New Jersey was developed by Taubman's company. Adolph Alfred Taubman (born 1924) is an American real estate developer and philanthropist from Michigan . He pioneered the modern shopping mall concept and was described by CBS News as a "legend in retailing" who became wealthy developing upscale shopping malls . He built shopping mall developer Taubman Centers into a retailing powerhouse. He wrote Threshold Resistance: The Extraordinary Career of a Luxury Retailing Pioneer in 2007. Background Born at 300 Ottawa Drive in Pontiac, Michigan , to German Jewish immigrants Philip and Fannie Taubman, who came to the United States from Bialystok , in northeastern Poland . His mother was his father's second cousin. Philip took a job with the Wilson Foundry Company in Iowa , transferred to Pontiac in 1920, became a fruit farmer, then began developing commercial real estate and custom homes. Taubman watched his parents lose everything in the Depression of the 1930s. "I started working when I was 9," he told a CBS News reporter. He had to help support the family and the experience changed him. He said: I really wanted to make some money. : Shopping mall development Taubman studied architecture at the University of Michigan an... ... Read more

Simpson (born July 9, 1947), nicknamed "The Juice", is a retired American football player, football broadcaster, spokesman, actor, and convicted felon. Originally attaining a public profile in sports as a running back at the collegiate and professional levels, Simpson was the first NFL player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season, a mark he set during the 1973 season. While five other players have passed the 2,000 rush yard mark he stands alone as the only player to ever rush for more than 2,000 yards in a 14-game season (the NFL changed to a 16-game season in 1978). He also holds the record for the single season yards-per-game average which stands at 143.1 ypg. Simpson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. In 1995, Simpson was acquitted of the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman after a lengthy, internationally publicized criminal trial the People v. Simpson. A 1997 judgment against Simpson for their wrongful deaths was awarded in civil court in a case which he did not actively defend, but to date he has paid little of the $33.5 million judgment. His book, If I Did It (2006), related to the murders, purports to be a first-person fictional ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=8955445 ... Read more
