Product Description
Just one day after losing his father, Irvin Favre, to a heart attack and fatal car crash, Brett Favre took the field for a Monday Night Football game against the notorious Oakland Raiders.Even with the Green Bay Packers clinging to a slim chance for a playoff spot, his teammates and his adopted city didn’t expect Brett to suit up.

Big Irv was the game to Brett. As his coach at Hancock North Central High School in Kiln, Mississippi, Irv taught Brett the importance of execution, precision, and sacrifice. He rarely let Brett throw the ball; rather, he had him lead the run-oriented wishbone offense, which required him to handoff and then block for his teammates. When no major college had any interest in Brett as a quarterback, Irv got the University of Southern Mississippi to give him a shot as a defensive back. And when Brett did the impossible at Southern Miss–moving from defense to the team’s starting quarterback his freshman year–Irv was there the whole way.

Prior to the Raider game, Favre had started an exhausting 189 games straight (an NFL record) and was nursing a broken finger on his throwing hand since the early weeks of the 2003 season.Rumors of his retirement circulated among the press–he was in his thirteenth year–and while no one said it out loud, most commentators believed Brett was a shadow of his former self.

But what happened in the Oakland twilight on December 22, 2003, is the stuff of NFL legend.Brett Favre sealed his reputation as one of the greatest football players in history.

“I knew that my dad would have wanted me to play,” he said after throwing for just under 400 hundred yards and four touchdowns to rout the Raiders. “I love him so much, and I love this game. It meant a great deal to me, to my dad, and to my family, and I didn't expect this kind of performance. But I know he was watching.”

FAVRE is a dazzling tribute to the roller-coaster football life of Brett Favre, with personal family photos and remembrances, stunning four-color action shots, and inspiring stories of a lifelong love affair with the all-American game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT
This item came to my house in time to surprise someone with the gift they "couldn't find anywhere". It was better than the seller described.

3-0 out of 5 stars Got a bit tiresome
I like Favre, he seems to be a down to earth guy but this book was just a bit too much of self-love for my liking. I would have preferred to have seen nothing written by Favre in the book but have others do the writing.

The photos are excellent in this book and perhaps my favourite part was the chapter where the reporter wrote about how Favre is his favorite subject.

It is funny how the thought processes change. Favre wrote how he would never play for another team bar the Packers.......

5-0 out of 5 stars Favre
I bought this with Christmas $$, and before I did, I checked out the reviews on Amazon before purchasing.I read on one of them that it was the same as others and that it wasn't well written.Yes, there is a lot of information that is the same, that's what happens when you read many books on the same person....they still only have one life, and it doesn't change because you have another book out. The reason I like this book as it reflects Brett talking as if you were in the room with him.It wasn't written in a style to be a great novel. It isn't perfectly written but it is true Brett..written from the seat of his pants.Compared to his first autobiography you can see his growth and maturity as both a person, but mostly as a family man.Brett, if you read any of these reviews, you are a very loving father, supporting husband (yes, I read Deanna's book also), a caring person for the underdog, and one hell of a football player.Since I know it is truly impossible for me to ever personally meet you...just know that you would be the kind of friend that I would like to have around. I recommend the book to anyone who wants to "sit down with Favre" and listen to some great stories from the man himself.

Oh, and the DVD is EXCELLENT! Very funny too.

A True Packer Fan,
Teresa from Illinois (a transplant from Wisconsin!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow
This book was very inspiring. What Brett went through with his painkillers made me more of a fan of him. When he quit his battle with drinking, I thought only a warrior could do that. Hats off to Brett Favre. Bill Gutman told it as it was.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Incrediblely Couragous"
This book is fantastic. If you are looking for a book to read about a hero in the NFL, this is the book to read. Brett lays everything out for the reader. He talks about his upbringing, college and the NFL, and how it lead him to his painful addiction to pain killers. He is a true"hero"... I would recomend this book to anyone, if all athleteswere this honest, the fans would be more forgiving. You can't help but rootfor him at the end of the book... I have given 10 of these books away forpresents, and I am not even a packer fan..I am now a Brett Favre fan...

5-0 out of 5 stars Brett's Career in Green Bay
Many fans revere Brett Favre, and they have lots of reasons to do so:

--contributions to Packers' history
--record streak of playing in consecutive games
--toughness under adversity
--come-from-behind wins
--aw-shucks manner
--longevity as the Packers' starting quarterback

If you feel that way, you'll love this book. It shares those perspectives well and in detail, beautifully illustrated by momentous and iconic photographs of Brett at his best.

If you don't like the way that Brett unretired a few months after retiring to join the green and white in the New Jersey swampland, then this book might feel a little like a twist to the gut.

I'm not from Wisconsin and have never been a Packers' fan. But I have always admired the Packers. I think that the franchise and fans stand for very special qualities in professional football, ones exemplified by Vince Lombardi.

Why does a player decide to stop being a legend in his own town and head off in the twilight of his career for a so-so year somewhere else? I guess they are still able to get the job done (at least in their own minds).

Brett at his best for the Jets looked pretty good. Yes, he still threw lots of crazy interceptions . . . but that's part of his gunslinger persona. He looked bad at the end of the season, and you have to think he was hurt. A lot of blood will hit the floor in New Jersey as a result, with coach Eric "Mangenius" Mangini already gone. The quarterback the Jets dumped, Chad Pennington, had a much better season in Miami with the former 1-15 Dolphins than Brett did for the former wild card Jets. How the mighty can fall in one year. It's worth thinking about.

Where will Brett be next season? Who knows?

I do hope he will think about his legacy in Green Bay before deciding.

5-0 out of 5 stars Era-by-era reviews of Favre's achievements and winning ways
As Brett Favre's era comes to an end at Green Bay this third edition, THE FINAL SEASON, concludes a tribute to his many accomplishments. Favre fans will appreciate nearly a hundred photos from the Packers Team photographer Jim Biever to accompany era-by-era reviews of Favre's achievements and winning ways. Any collection front in Packers history or sports biographies in general will find this a popular lend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for any Packer's fan!

Let me preface this review by letting everyone know that I am from Wisconsin.I attended college at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, so I lived in Green Bay for four years.Green Bay is a city that lives and breathes for their football team.Drive around on game day and it is like a ghost town, as everyone is inside somewhere watching the game.Throughout college I was employed at the airport and witnessed the Packers returning from away games to gigantic groups of cheering fans. Many Packer heroes and role models came and went throughout the years, but the one constant for the Packers was quarterback Brett Favre.Brett came to Green Bay in 1992 and played for sixteen seasons up until his retirement.Unfortunately he "un-retired" and is now on a different team, but "Brett Favre: A Packer Fan's Tribute" covers Favre's years on the field up until 2007 as a Green Bay Packer.

The book covers how Brett Favre came to be a Green Bay Packer and then focuses on standout games. Some of the types of games detailed are comebacks, cold weather, the Super Bowl (of course!), the streak, and the final season. It was interesting reading through the descriptions of the games and remembering watching them on TV, or in the case of one extremely cold day, actually being there. One of the most interesting facts presented in the book to me was that throughout "the Brett Favre era, two-hundred and twelve other quarterbacks started games in the NFL, according to Elias Sports Bureau."During the time Brett Favre was quarterback for the Packers, the team's main rival, the Chicago Bears, had twenty-one starting quarterbacks, the Lions had fifteen, and the Vikings had fourteen.

Kertsher's book contains many great photographs, which definitely add to the appeal of the book. There is also a "Fan Tribute" section in the back containing words from some of Brett's many fans. One of my favorite fan quotes refers to the game that Brett played immediately after his father passed away.It reads as follows:"For my birthday, my partner got us tickets to see the Packers come to Oakland to play the Raiders on Monday Night Football on December 22, 2003.The game started, and Brett lit it up!I looked around and saw the stunned and silent Raiders fans.Every time Brett threw the ball, his receivers went above and beyond themselves to make sure they caught it- it was like they were paying tribute to Brett and helping him say goodbye to his dad.Gradually, the Raiders fans began to realize that what they were seeing was something special, and pretty soon they were all jumping out of their seats and cheering with me as Favre completed one pass after another. The guy next to me high-fived me after a Packers touchdown pass and said, `We're seeing history tonight.' What a way to pay tribute to your father." (Tom D'Acquisto, Hayward, CA, p. 162)This quote to me sums up the effect that Brett Favre has on people.

Kertscher's book is a must have for any Packer fan to remember the "Brett Favre Era" of the Green Bay Packer's football team. The author captures the essence of Brett Favre beautifully, and this commemorative book definitely deserves a place on every fan's bookshelf!

5-0 out of 5 stars Packer fan collection
Reviewed by Lori Plach for Reader Views (10/08)

March 6, 2008 is a day Packers fans dreaded. It would be so hard to say goodbye to a man who led their team to the Super Bowl and will never be forgotten. He is so beloved by Packer fans and the city of Green Bay; why he even had a street named after him. It wasn't without tears by the man himself that he said goodbye to playing the game and the fans who embraced him. Brett Favre made everyone feel that he was leaving the game that he loved and entering a new chapter of his life. Little did he know at the time, or did the Packers organization know, that this was not to be the final goodbye. Anyone who watches National Football League games on Sundays knows that he is now the starting quarterback for the New York Jets.

"Brett Favre: A Packer Fan's Tribute" is a game-by-game report of each of the games which Brett started while wearing the Green and Gold. With the most consecutive starts in NFL games, this book is packed with recaps of the most memorable games in his illustrious career. What packer fan could ever forget the gutsy Monday night performance the night after his father Irvin's sudden death? The snow globe game in Green Bay in 2007 won't soon be forgotten either, where he jokingly threw a snowball at his teammate and high-fived a referee.

True Packers fans will want to keep this book in their collection. Being filled with many photographs, it would make a wonderful coffee table book. Brett is a legend and sure to be enshrined in the National Football League Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Living in Wisconsin when Brett retired, you couldn't miss the news coverage of his "retirement." He joked that after seeing some of the television stations tributes, he now knew what it felt like to die. Brett will long be remembered as a legend. He now has a book which is devoted to his statistics and photo history of his time in Green Bay.

"Brett Favre: A Packer Fan's Tribute" by Tom Kertscher would definitely bring a smile to all the Brett Favre fans out there all over the country!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a book that is a must read for all fans of the Packers, NFL football and nice guys who finish first
There will never be another like him is the most appropriate way to describe Brett Favre. His jest for the game of football was unmatched and his ability to turn bad plays into good ones and occasionally turn good plays into bad ones always kept you interested in the game. No one who watched the game between the Packers and the Raiders on Monday December 22, 2003 will ever forget it. Less than 24 hours before the game started, Favre was informed that his father had suffered a massive heart attack and died. Even though he was given the opportunity to sit the game out, Favre played and turned in an incredible performance. His play was so astounding that even the Raider fans in the stands began cheering him. Like some of the people who contributed to this book, I watched the game with tears in my eyes.
While he did engage in occasional trash talk with his opponents, it was always clear that they had the highest respect for him. He would go jaw to jaw with an opponent and then they would slap each other on the helmet and go back to their respective huddles.
All of this inspiration and his impact on the game are captured in this largely photo tribute to Brett Favre's years as a Packer. His uncanny ability to play and win is unmatched by nothing other than his base humility as a person. He never allowed himself to be floated above the others, always willing to meet with fans and treat them as an important asset rather than an unpleasant duty. In the elitist world of professional sports stars worth millions of dollars, he exuded the simple life of the Mississippi country boy that he remained, even while in the national limelight. This is a book that is a must read for all fans of the Packers, NFL football and nice guys who finish first.

2-0 out of 5 stars Substitute a better book
As a die-hard New York Jets fan I hoped that this book would give insight and unknown information about a season that started so well and ended so drastically horribly.Unfortunately the book is nothing more than a simple play-by-play review of each game and Favre's post-game press conferences written into story form.Critically little new or surprising details are revealed and I didn't feel as if I knew the "characters" involved any more because athletes tend to be somewhat guarded during press conferences.

On a positive note, the book is considerably better in the early chapters before the season begins as the details of Favre's trade to the Jets is interesting. The book also is a very easy read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great in some aspects, lukewarm in others
This book talked about Brett Favre's 2008 with the Jets (which didn't go so well for him).

Pluses- The buildup to the trade was top notch and had plenty of quotes from insiders. Also talked about his injury to an extent and how it limited him.

Negatives- Didn't really discuss game plans week by week and was more a narrative of the game. Also underdiscusses Mangini getting canned. The author missed the point about saying Favre needed to quit (like many other critics).

Overall- If you are a hardcore Favre fan, read it for the insight on last year. If you are a casual fan, pass. Favre's legacy continues on this year with an MVP year in Minnesota.A ultimate Favre bio is due when he FINALLY decides to retire.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough in capturing Favre
I was eager to read this book since I wondered about the inside story of Brett's year in New York. Serby is a New York reporter. He relies mostly on Favre's press conferences for a narration of how the year is going. I am a big Favre fan and I think had already heard each press conference so I was not surprised by anything, but it was interesting to read it all in one place. Confirms that Favre believed he was being traded to the Bucs when the trade to the Jets appeared on TV. He made the best of it and warmed to his teammates and did the best he could in a foreign offensive system. Favre speaks highly of Jet management and coaches, as well as players, but confesses the move was harder than he expected it to be. He had right of refusal but did not want to create even a bigger scene so went ahead to the Jets. Woody Johnson was eager to show him New Jersey was not the city and this helped Favre with his transition. The book does not have extensive interviews with players or management so there is not the insider information that might give the book more meat.We do get the public statements Favre made throughout the year. Interesting read but not groundbreaking news. ... Read more

I Love Brett Favre / I Hate Brett Favre is quite literally two books in one (flip "I Love Brett Favre" over to read "I Hate Brett Favre"), embodying the love-hate dynamic that so many of Favre's fans have had toward this legendary superstar of professional football. A tongue-in-cheek compendium of insights from Favre's teammates, coaches, and associates past and present, as well as media figures and dyed-in-the-wool NFL fans, I Love Brett Favre / I Hate Brett Favre is thoroughly enjoyable from cover to cover, and an especial treat for Wisconsin (or Minnesotan!) football fans. "I hate the fact that Brett Favre can wear Wranglers, drive a tractor, and do Sears commercials - and hot chicks still think he's all that."

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Description from the Author, Ross Bernstein
"I Love Brett Favre - I Hate Brett Favre" captures all the emotions - from adoration to loathing - in a unique flip-book format that balances both sides of the argument. Author Ross Bernstein has reached out to more than 100 current and former players, teammates, coaches, media, and hard-core NFL fans and asked them to weigh in on the two sides of No. 4 and share their stories that shaped their opinion of him. The result is an entertaining, eye-opening look at one of pro football's biggest stars. Chock full of vile opinions, hilarious stories and conspiracy theories about why he chose to play for Green Bay's No. 1 arch nemesis, the Vikings, the book also features a biography of Favre going back to his childhood in Mississippi.Seemingly nobody just "likes" Brett Favre, he is the most polarizing figure in professional sports today -- which is why we all either "love him" or "hate him." ... Product Description
Brett Favre arrived in Green Bay in 1992 with a name many Green Bay Packers fans couldn't pronounce; he retired after the 2007 season with a name most Packers fans will never forget. Few players in NFL history have played the game with the dedication, passion, and little-boy enthusiasm that the strong-armed, free-spirited gunslinger from Kiln, Mississippi, demonstrated on the field, winning not only the love of the fans, but the respect and admiration of his peers. In his 16 years under center in Green Bay, he won an unprecedented three consecutive Most Valuable Player awards, led the Packers to victory in Super Bowl XXXI, and guided the team to 13 winning seasons. Incredibly tough and durable, he started in a record 275 consecutive games, including the postseason. He also broke every significant National Football League career passing mark, including touchdown passes (442), yards (61,655), and victories by a quarterback (160). Along the way, Favre went from hero to icon and from icon to legend.

Favre: The Man. The Legend. traces his humble beginnings in rural southern Mississippi, where he played high school football for his father, and follows his career at Southern Mississippi, his tumultuous rookie year with the Atlanta Falcons, and the trade that brought him to Green Bay. It also reveals the human side of a man who has had his share of ups and downs, revealing the courage he has shown on and off the field in confronting personal challenges. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Favre?
The part about him being a PACKER is great! Now he's just a punk! Memories!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beat on Brett Favre with Bonus CD
This is a great buy on a book and CD about a great athlete. The book gives you some information even Favre fans don't know. The CD is fascinating. It tells the story of how he came through high school as a running quarterback to a famous passing quarterback. It is told in the words of the people who were there, such as Green Bay greats and the recruiter who saw something special in a kid whose dad only let him pass maybe 5 times a game. Buy It!!! This is also a great price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Your Football Collection
I started to write this was for Favre fans, but truly it is for all sports fans. Any NFL fan knows about the Great Brett Favre, but this book and CD contains many facts of his life that you may not know. The CD is wonderful because people from his life, such as the man who recruited him to Soutern Miss, tell what they saw in him and how he progressed. You will find it amazing how he almost went no where, and then what fellow Green Bay Packer greats have to say about him. The book catches the Ironman, the common man, and the man who just cannot quit. I think it helps in understanding his love for Green Bay and the loss that must have been to leave there as a persona non grata.

If you don't love Favre after you read this, you will most certainly respect him. A must for any football fan, and especially for Favre fans from Wisconsin, Minnesota, New York and all across the globe.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Brett Favre!
The great Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. Of course it's a great book. Buy it.

Product Description
A Wisconsin native returns to Green Bay to cover the Packers’ tumultuous first season following the departure of their legendary quarterback, Brett Favre. The 2008 football season was one of transition for the Green Bay Packers and their legion of loyal fans. For the first time in seventeen years, the Packers were entering the season without three-time league MVP Brett Favre under center. After a whirlwind summer of rumor and controversy, Packers’ management decided traded the thirty-eight-year-old gunslinger to the New York Jets, leaving “Packer Backers” worldwide to cope with life after Favre.

Wisconsin native Phil Hanrahan moved from Los Angeles to Green Bay for the 2008 season. He watched games at Lambeau Field and followed new starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers as he attempted to follow in the footsteps of Favre, a Green Bay immortal. Immersing himself in the worlds of team and town, Hanrahan is reborn a full-blown Cheesehead; living in a hotel that decades earlier had served as the Packers offices, observing training camp practices, interviewing players, attending the Packers’ annual shareholders meeting, tailgating in arctic cold, shoveling snow at Lambeau for $8 an hour, celebrating Packer great Fuzzy Thurston’s 75th birthday at Thurston’s bar, and, at every turn, befriending the scores of die-hard Packers fans he encounters along the way.

Hanrahan also journeys far from Lambeau in his pursuit of adventures in Packer Land. He attends road games in Minneapolis and New Orleans and catches others on TV in small-town Wisconsin taverns. He watches one game in a bar and grill owned by rookie receiver Jordy Nelson’s parents in rural Kansas, another at Mabel Murphy’s, a year-round Packers bar located in Scottsdale, Arizona. He also visits Kiln, Mississippi, Favre’s hometown.

With energy, insight, humor, and vivid color, Life After Favre tells the story of a singular team and town. Hanrahan reveals the incredible scope and breadth of Packer Nation, and in doing so demonstrates how, when you bleed Packer green, even a 6-10 season can be something special. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read -- Great Gift!
I bought this book as a gift -- during long airplane delay, decided to read it. Totally enjoyed the story and appreciated the author's writing style! Have since gifted several times to rave reviews.

4-0 out of 5 stars perfect gift for my dad
The first copy of this book i received was missing several pages at the beginning, but of course Amazon took it back and replaced it at no extra charge to me.(With the thousands of books they sell, this has to happen sometimes.)Perfect Christmas present for my father, who is a die-hard Packer fan!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Topanga Lin
I ordered two...and my son and I have enjoyed this book enormously. Hopefully there will be more from Hanrahan as his writing style has an across the board appeal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gift for the Packer Fan and Non-Fan Alike!
I am not a raved Packer or pro football fan, but I do live in Wisconsin and after a ten year absence due to school and military service, I was happy to return over thirty years ago.

The last book I read about the Packers was Jerry Kramer's classic, Instant Replay.
When I was given Life After Favre I was told that it was more about the culture of the Packer fan, and in particular, those who live around those Sunday afternoons at the many taverns and bars that are such a large part of Wisconsin's culture.

The book lived up to that preview and then some. It's not so much as a rehash of the 2008 season, but it's about the inner operations of this hallowed franchise that became a national icon during the great Lombardi years, and then with Brett Favre.

This book is not just for those who are Packer fans, but for any sports fan that is curious regarding how this professional franchise has survived as the only publicly owned NFL team. The inner workings and politics have been well research by the author who really cares about his team and wanted to learn more about it.

It's a fast and easy read that can be read in small or larger doses. However, for me, once I got into it, I found myself focused into the book while baseball games were in the background. What a great gift for the fan and non-fan of the Packers, the NFL, and pro sports.
--Mick Faulhaber

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sports book
All too often diaristic year-in-the-life-of-the-team sports books are formulaic, dull, and lifeless. This is none of those; in fact, it's the exact opposite. Hanrahan finds numerous unmined corners in the well-traveled Packers mythology, and he draws an evocative portrait of the unique relationship between the team, the city, and its nationwide fanbase.

And I'll agree with previous commenters in saying that there are numerous chill-inducing scenes. It's a refreshing literary change in a genre filled with few great offerings. ... Read more

Product Description
One day soon, the day Green Bay Packers fans dread most will arrive: Brett Favre will retire. What follows will soon be an unprecedented outpouring of emotion over Favre and a welling of desire among his fans for something that celebrates and preserves their on-field memories of him. Given Favre's status as one of the most popular athletes in America, that sentiment will also be shared by football fans nationwide.
Brett Favre: A Packer Fan's Tribute is a celebration of the all-star quarterback's accomplishments on the field. One chapter is devoted to each of the distinctive aspects of Favre's play that returned the Packers to glory and established him as one of the best NFL quarterbacks of all time.

  • The Streak: Favre's incomparable record of starting 221 consecutive games at quarterback, a streak nearly twice as long as the previous record.
  • Cold: The boy from the South won 90 percent of the time at Lambeau Field when the temperature at kickoff was 34 degrees or below.
  • MVP: Favre is the only player in NFL history to be named Most Valuable Player three times—and he did it in three consecutive seasons.
  • Super Bowl: Favre led the Packers to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, including the team's first Super Bowl victory in twenty-nine years.
  • Comebacks: Fans always knew that, no matter how little time was left in the game and no matter how far the Packers needed to go to score, Favre could pull out a win.
  • Rivals: Under Favre, the Packers won 75 percent of their games against the archnemesis Chicago Bears in the NFL's oldest rivalry.

According to a recent Harris poll, Favre is the fourth most popular athlete in America—in all sports. According to ESPN.com, he is the second-most searched-for athlete on the Internet. And according to NFL.com, his player jersey is the sixth all-time bestseller in league history. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best football book I have read and loved in years......
WOW.... what a wonderful book.If the many many many photographs don't grab and hold your attention the excellent beginning to end chapters of this mans career will.

The most professional book on an athlete I have read and appreciated in years.

The author Tom Kertscher has done an A+ job and I hope all football fans will buy and appreciate this book and add it to your book collection.

Again...WOW!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A concise look at Brett Favre
Reviewed by David Olvera for Reader Views (3/07)

"Brett Favre: A Packer Fan's Tribute" does not mince words and the book stays true to its title.Kertscher evaluates Favre's legendary career from crummy rookie in the pro ranks to NFL god.Rather than a long and microscopic analysis of the patron saint of Lambeau, the author cuts to the chase and offers great snapshots of Favre's career.Favre's beginnings, his hallmark comebacks, the Super Bowl, the MVPs, all laid out in clean episodes.

Kertscher also stays true as a fan.You can easily tell the author is endeared to the Packers and he relates that fandom to the reader. You cannot help but relate to Favre, the Packers, and their fans after reading this book.Sure Favre is an All-American, apple pie, Stars and Stripes kind of guy, but the author's examination of his career and even his addiction to painkillers takes you that much closer to being apart of the Green Bay scene.

I would have liked to have seen closer examinations of his personal life, especially his relationship with his father.Although I am not a Packer fan, the passing of Favre's father and Brett's on-field performance afterward was a profound NFL moment regardless of affiliation.I won't knock the author too much for it though...too close an examination would not fit well with the book's overall theme and feel.

The author's writing style is quick and to the point.I get the feeling that Kertscher isn't going for a Pulitzer and that makes the book very versatile. You can hand this book to any child and they could easily become a "Cheese Head."A great coffee table or waiting room piece...or simply what the title says...a book for fans."Brett Favre: A Packer Fan's Tribute" is not the essential autobiography of Favre, but its strength is in its candid approach to the career of an NFL great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brett Favre
One of the greatest, if not the greatest, quarterbacks in the NFL tells us about his strenuous journey to the top.Brett Favre is known for his rocket arm and great accuracy. This book did a wonderful job by not only telling us of his talent, but also of the struggles he faced. Everyone had obstacles that they must overcome, and Brett was no different. When Brett was in the darkest of his days, he was on the verge of losing his wife because of his addiction to Vicadin. With the media haunting him, Brett knew that his act had to get back under control.
I particularly enjoyed the stats that were given in the book as each game was played. Ever since I was young, I like to analyze football stats. This book provides tons of info with great numbers from Brett Favre. So if you love football and/or Brett Favre, I advise you to read Brett Favre by Bill Gutman. ... Read more
