4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding kids book. But I sure didn't buy my copy for my daughter!
Great colour photos of Der Flutie in
action in the NFL & CFL. But where
were the USFL shot, or shots? Anyway
fine little book about an athlete that
never had an operation and played 21
yrs., outrunning 300lb'r's and making
fools out of most of them. Had over
100 career wins, 58,000 yds., and
400 TDs in three different Leagues.
Little General made some good coin
(quite a lot in Canadian currency)
and won some Championships. Great
career, Doug! Loved every minute of it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
This book is the best in the world.I suggest that everyone buy it. ... Read more

Product Description
"Heart Stoppers and Hail Marys makes you realize why college football is part of America's DNA. These games are the type that cause heartache, tears, and joy . . . all-in-one!" -Beano Cook, ESPN"If college football is the greatest sport - and it is - then Heart Stoppers and Hail Marys is one of the greatest books on the subject." - Tampa Tribune.Do you remember where you were when your favorite college team kicked the last-second game-winning field goal, made the impossible goal-line stand, caught the unthinkable touchdown pass?

Heart Stoppers and Hail Marys chronicles over three decades of astounding, improbable, heart-wrenching, college football finishes in 116 vividly detailed chapters. From east coast to west coast, Division I-A to Division III, all your favorite schools are covered. Each game comes alive as author Ted Mandell sets the scene, recounts the drama of the decisive play, and captures all the post-play emotion and impact.

But it's not enough to just read about the games. Listen to the two-disc audio CD set included with the book! It's packed with the actual broadcasts of the most spine-tingling endings exactly as they were relayed by the great radio voices of college football from around the country. You're right there with the crowd at the thrilling moment of victory or the wrenching pain of defeat.

Heart Stoppers and Hail Marys was a great-selling clothbound work when it was first published in 2000. Now in high-quality paperback for the first time, Mandell has updated the book, adding sixteen new chapters, and a bundle of breathtaking new recordings to the original, plus an index. And one of the best additions is the new Top Ten Heart Stoppers selections, showing the poll results from scores of the most esteemed football journalists around the country.Ten seconds left. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Here we go with the kickoff, the ball comes loose and the Bears have to get out of bounds... David Gordon to win it for Boston College... Flutie takes the snap, scrambles away from one hit... Dropping back McNabb, the heat is on, this is the last play of the game... The snap back to Scott Frost... Time has run out, Stewart throws it for the end zone... Oh, the band is out on the field!... A miracle catch!... Oh my God, Carter scored!... Van Tiffin has kicked a 52-yard field goal and the state of Alabama is crimson!... It's an Iowa touchdown, it's an Iowa touchdown! I can't believe it!... There's a mob scene on the field... Listen to this crowd! Pandemonium!... Colorado has won the game! Can you believe it?!... He did it, he did it, Flutie did it!... Holy cow, Matt Davison!... The Bears have won! The Bears have won! Excuse me for my voice, but I have never, never seen anything like it! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Flutie Fans
If you like Doug Flutie, you will enjoy this book. Typical "sports hero" book... not extremely well written, will drag on at times unless you are a fanatic. Interesting read if you want to learn more about Doug Fluite.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book that any CFL/NFL/USFL fan can relate to. QB who played for 8 Pro Teams in 3 Pro Leagues for 21 yrs.
Doug Flutie was the best player in CFL
history and a Pro Football legend who
taught the overrated NFL a thing or
two about the 'size' NON-issue. If
this guy had ever had a REAL good Coach
(how about if he'd gone to New England
under Bill Belichick before Thomas Brady!)
who would have trusted him, man, I beleive
he could have won that elusive Super Bowl.
The drop kick may end up being the Coda
on a fine career. Instant Canadian Foot-
ball Hall of Fame and Museum selection
as soon as he's done (and maybe a broad-
caster this year, eh?). What a career.
He always rose above the stupidity of
sorry Coaches like Wade Phillips!-R.A.S

5-0 out of 5 stars Great

4-0 out of 5 stars Flutie: Football through and through
Doug Flutie recounts his career from his earlest days on the playing field thought his magical first season with the Buffalo Bills.Lots and lots of football facts and game-related jargon here! I would have liked to havelearned more about Flutie's personal life; what sort of things reallyshaped and inspired such an exemplary athlete?Who is the man behind theface mask?I recommend this book for Flutie and football fans everywherebut don't expect any great revelations.

5-0 out of 5 stars was surprised, then laughed out loud
Excuse me, the 2nd review listed for Doug Flutie's autobiography is for another book entitled "Flutie, a novel". The juxtaposition of the reviewed content is hysterically funny however, so you might want to leaveit. ... Read more

Excerpt: Doug Flutie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Flutie was born in Catonsville, Maryland to Lebanese-American parents. His family moved to Melbourne Beach, Florida when he was 6, where his father, Richard, worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry. After the dramatic slow-down of the space program in the mid-1970s, the Flutie family again moved in 1976 to Natick, Massachusetts. His nickname was "The Wee One". The young Flutie was exceptional at arithmetic; his mother, Joan, would take him grocery shopping and ask him to add up the prices of the items bought in his head before they got to the check-out. According to his mother, Flutie's final totals were never more than $2.00 off. Flutie graduated from Natick High School, where he played for the "Redmen". He was an All-League performer in football, basketball and baseball. Flutie played football for Boston College, the only Division I-A school to recruit him, from 1981 to 1984, and won the Heisman Trophy and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award in his senior year (1984). Flutie became the first quarterback to win the Heisman since Pat Sullivan in 1971. He gained national attention in 1984 when he quarterbacked the Eagles to victory in a high-scoring, back-and-forth game against the Miami Hurricanes (led by QB Bernie Kosar). The game was nationally televised on CBS the day after Thanksgiving and thus had a huge audience. Miami staged a dramatic drive to take the lead, 45-41, in the closing minute of the game. Boston College then took possession at its own 22-yard line with 28 seconds to go. After two passes moved the ball another 30 yards, only 6 seconds remained. On the last play of the game, Flutie scrambled away from the defense and threw a Hail Mary pass that was caught in the ... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=189559 ... Read more
