5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for All A-Rod Fans
This book is very interesting for all A-Rod fans even though it profiles him earlier in his career.I even found it interesting as a fan of A-Rod.My 9 year old nephew loves this book and as it profiles a young Alex Rodriguez, it is very inspirational for my young baseball playing nephew. It's a great book for all A-Rod fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars My review of Alex Rodriguez' Hit a Grand Slam
Hit a Grand Slam is about Alex Rodriguez as a kid and growing up. It teaches you to be kind. I recommend it to people ages 7 and up, even if they don't like baseball. It's also a really good sports book for kids who like sports. It's one of the best sports books I ever read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hit a Grand Slam
This is a wonderful book. This Book shows how even through adversity you can still rise above, and achieve success. It is a book for all ages, Alex had difficult times, but he did not let it stop him..that is an inspiration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hit a Grand Slam: By A-Rod is a great book!

Before he hit 400 home runs...
Before he was named
American League MVP...
Before he was AROD to
millions of fans...
He was Alex.

Just a kid who wanted to play baseball more than anything else in the world.

Baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez has drawn on his own childhood experiences to create this exciting picture book. It's the story of a boy named Alex who knows what it's like to swing at a wild pitch or have a ball bounce right between his legs. Alex is determined not to let his mistakes set him back—even if it means getting up at the crack of dawn to work on his hitting and fielding before school each day!

Full of the spirit of determination and joy in the game that put AROD in a league of his own, Out of the Ballpark is a gift from a great sports hero to every young player who dreams of becoming a star.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good baseball story for the younger set.
A delightful book by Yankee superstar Alex Rodriguez. Who does not know the legend call AROD? Bright illustrations by Frank Morrison tell the story. What mother of a baseball enthusiast does not know the sound of a tennis ball bouncing against the indoor wall of the house? The story is good--our beloved Alex can write as well as play ball! It's inspirational, but not overly done--Alex touts sustainable effort to achieve goals. Post-story includes four pages of personal notes and a timeline of photographs. A must-have for young fans, but a genuinely good baseball story, even without knowing who the main character is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
The child I bought this for loved it ! Great pictures and an easy reader for your children.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing -- consider Jorge Posada's "Play Ball!" instead
After reading Jorge Posada's excellent children's book, "Play Ball!" at least a dozen times at my four-year-old son's request, I was excited to see "Out of the Ballpark" by Alex Rodriguez, one of the great players of our time.

Although other reviewers seem to love the book, my son can barely tolerate it and will pick any other baseball book before this one. He doesn't light up like he does with Posada's book, or any of his baseball books, for that matter.

His favorites are the amazing Casey At the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic Sung in the Year 1888 (Caldecott Honor Book), the entertaining Casey Back at Bat, the beautifully illustrated Home Run: The Story of Babe Ruth and a book that features his favorite player, Dear Ichiro.

The story felt like it was trying too hard to me and never really developed the great rhythm good children's book authors seem to find. Take note: this is a fictional story loosely based on events in A-Rod's life...a fact that isn't revealed until you've completed the story. I probably wouldn't have purchased the book had I known it was fiction.

When it comes to children's books, Posada hit a homerun. A-Rod, well, I'll give him a bloop single...and I'm giving him that for picking a decent illustrator!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids
I find this a great book with some wonderful surpises inside for young boys and girls who are just getting into baseball. They can learn what it means to be part of team and it shows respect to one another. My grandson had a great time with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Out of the Ballpark
Nicely written; very simply presented with good illustrations.

Children need to know the importance of long term goals and "practice makes perfect"...This story presents those values. ... Read more

Product Description

The highest-paid player in the history of baseball and widely regarded as the greatest in the modern game, the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez ensured his place in the record books in 2007 when, at thirty-two, he became the youngest player to hit five hundred home runs. But his reputation changed drastically two years later, when Selena Roberts broke the news in Sports Illustrated that he had used performance-enhancing drugs while playing for the Texas Rangers and later with the Yankees.

In A-Rod, Roberts chronicles Rodriguez's extraordinary life, going beyond the sensational headlines to reveal a man torn by obligation to his family and the pull of insatiable hedonism. Ultimately, Roberts captures Rodriguez as a tragic figure in pinstripes: the man once considered the clean exception of the steroid generation revealed as an unmistakable product of its greed and dissolution.

1-0 out of 5 stars Selena Roberts
In 2004, MLB players were asked to be tested for any performance-enhancing drugs. All players were told that the information collected will be kept confidential, which is why the Player's Association agreed to have players take the test. However, since then, all this information has been leaked out wild, so MLB broke it's promise on keeping the test results confidential. We shouldn't know if Alex took steroids or not, it was confidential information that the public wasn't supposed to know until that Selena Roberts and those 4 sources that leaked everything out into the wild

This also brings me to Selena Roberts. [...] reporters Selena Roberts and David Epstein broke out the story February 2009. They leaked out information they weren't supposed to, and in my opinion, both of them should have lost their jobs and got fined. In that same year, Selena Roberts wrote a book called "A-rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez." I read the book, and I have to say, why would you say something like this to another person. This book shouldn't have ever been sold, written, nor should Selena Roberts still have her job. What am I saying? This book is completely one-sided and biased against A-Rod. I'm sorry, but Selena Roberts is a class A jackass.

Final thing: A-Rod did this to help his team. That's all he ever wanted, was to help his team win a World Series. I've never seen that much determination from a player before, and even before A-Rod took steroids, he was still a great player. I bet you all the money in the world Selena Roberts will never be able to do what A-Rod did for his team.

PS: This book that Selena Roberts wrote, is as if she said to herself: "Yes! I get to write a book about how A-Rod sucks!" It is clear Selena Roberts personally dislikes Alex, but if she does, she should have kept it to herself.

This book is all one-sided, and if your reading this Ms. Roberts: You SUCK at this, go get a life, and stop bashing A-Rod. YOU SUCK, YOU CAN'T WRITE, NOBODY WOULD WANT GET YOUR BOOK IF THEY WERE SANE

4-0 out of 5 stars A-NICE READ
SELENA ROBERTS DOES A NICE JOB TELLING US THE LIFE AND CAREER OF A-ROD. EVEN AS A BOY, ALEX WAS SPOILED AND PAMPERED. HIS STORY IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM MOST BIG EGO AND SELF ABSORBED PEOPLE. A-ROD HAS ALOT OF TALENT AND IS A GREAT PLAYER, BUT HE ALSO CHEATED AND HIS RECORDS WILL BE TAINTED FOREVER. HE IS JUST AS INSECURE AS EVERYONE ELSE ONLY HE HAS A TON OF MONEY WHICH HE GOT FROM STUPID EGO TRIP OWNERS LIKE HICKS AND STEINBRENNER. THE WORLD HAS SO MANY HUNGER, HOMELESS, POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEMS, TO PAY A-JERK $27 MILLION A YEAR IS A CRIME ITSELF. A-HOLE IS JUST A FOOL WHO NEEDS PEOPLE AROUND HIM TO TELL HIM HOW GREAT HE IS. HE BLAMES EVERYONE ELSE FOR HIS PROBLEMS EXCEPT THE SOURCE. HIS EX WIFE TOLERATED ENOUGH OF HIS STRIPPERS, NIGHT LIFE AND SELF CENTEREDNESS. AFTER HIS DIVORCE HE ENDED UP WITH A REAL PRIZE IN 50 YEAR OLD HOE MADONNA. THERE IS SOME GOOD IN A-ROD JUST NOT ENOUGH. THE BOOK ITSELF IS NEGATIVE TOWARDS HIM BUT HE CAUSED MOST OF IT HIMSELF. I APPLAUD SELENA ROBERTS FOR HAVING THE GUTS TO TELL US ABOUT ONE EXAMPLE OF WHAT ATHLETES ARE LIKE TODAY. GREEDY, SELF ABSORBED AND IN ALOT OF CASES A-HOLES LIKE A-ROD. I DO RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR ALL BASEBALL FANS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arod Audiobook
Got the book when I wanted it.Everything was perfect and in good shape

1-0 out of 5 stars Lies.
All this book does is lead Yankee Haters, Alex Rodriguez haters into even more ignorance, this book is the most (for lack of a better word) retarded novel i have ever sat my eyes upon. Saleena Roberts is mentally disabled, kicked out of Alex Rodriguez's apartment, arrested by the police for trespassing in A-Rod's house, making up so much lies about A-Rod using steroids IN HIGH SCHOOL, This book only contributes to people being even more ignorant about Alex Rodriguez and his steroid use, Saleena is the Hilary Clinton of sports. Before you read this book i would recommend you look at the Peter Gammons & Alex Rodriguez interview from ESPN, after you watch that then you can read the other story, but don't read this book, ignore all the Pro-Rodriguez interviews and fans and start bashing Alex Rodriguez.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eye Opening
An eye opening account about A-rod.I was not surprised after I read this.I don't know that I would have done anything differently under the pressures that he had. ... Read more

Product Description

Most sports watchers' projections for Alex Rodriguez's final stats rank him with men such as Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, and Hank Aaron. A veritable baseball wunderkind, this Dominican-American ball player has broken records from the moment he stepped on the diamond. In this engaging biography author Wayne Stewart describes the highlights of A-Rod's record-setting career and examines the reasons for the unprecedented impact he has had on the game.

Recruited right out of high school in 1993, his first year in pro ball was a whirlwind with Rodriguez making not only his minor league debut, but getting his first taste of big-league ball as a Seattle Mariner—all by the age of just 18. Fast forward to 2000 when A-Rod signed a 10-year deal with the Texas Rangers calling for a total salary of $252 million, the most lucrative deal in baseball. In 2003 he became the youngest player ever to reach the 300 home run circle. Just two years later became the youngest player ever to reach the 400 home run strata. If baseball history is any indication, A-Rod's days of record-breaking performances are far from over. This fair-minded and well-researched biography traces A-Rod from his childhood growing up in Miami to his career with the New York Yankees. Personal interests, such as his donations of both time and money to such causes as the Boys and Girls Club, are covered in detail. Also included is a timeline, photographs, and career statistics, which will give the reader insight into Rodriguez's place in the history of the game as well as how he stacks up against baseball's all-time greatest players.

Antes de que anotara 400 jonrones . . .
