Extractions: November 13, 1996 Bob McAdoo was not a personal favorite of mine. He used to beat my beloved Philadelphia 76ers repeatedly. Harvey Catchings and George McGinnis bless their hearts couldn't do a thing with McAdoo's patented hop, skip and jump offensive move. It usually resulted in a sweet nothing-but-net 20-footer. McAdoo was a player ahead of his time. A 6-foot-10 center who, in his prime with the Buffalo Braves and New York Knicks during the 1970s, shot the ball better than most guards and led the league in scoring three consecutive seasons. Even after his skills declined, McAdoo remained a productive player for the Los Angeles Lakers, with whom he was a member of two championship teams. MCADOO'S TALENTS WERE NEVER truly appreciated by purists uncomfortable with a big man who faced the basket. McAdoo's still waiting for his turn to be elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame. And he wasn't named to the NBA's list of 50 all-time best players. "The most glaring omission was mine," said McAdoo, now a Miami Heat assistant coach under Pat Riley, his coach with the Lakers. "If you go by championships or statistics, I should have been in the top 25. I just felt I was deserving over half the people."

Extractions: The Basketball Hall Of Fame The basketball hall of fame, founded by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, opened it's doors October, 1949, in a two-room office on the campus of Springfield College in Massachusetts, where James Naismith invented basketball in 1891. The first members were inducted in 1959 and construction on a building for the basketball hall of fame began two years later. But construction was stopped on the hall for lack of money. New fund-raising drives had to be started to complete the basketball hall of fame construction. The building finally opened on Feb. 17, 1968. From 1968 until 1985 the hall attracted 630,179 visitors. A new $11 million building in a different location in Springfield was opened to the public on June 30, 1985. In 2002, the Hall of Fame moved into its third building, a $45 million, 80,000-square-foot facility. Nominees for the basketball hall of fame are voted upon by a 24-member committee of trustees, media, and inducted members. If not elected within five years after nomination, a candidate can be considered by a special veterans committee after another wait of five years.

NBA Celtics legend and Hall of Famer Nate "Tiny" Archibald was named head coach of the Fayetteville franchise today. In an exclusive interview with MLN, one of the game's greatest players tells us why the NBDL is the place to be. MLN: Why coach in the NBDL? Archibald: "I thought it would give me and the players great exposure. I just think this is a league to be a part of because I'm inspired to be a head coach in the NBA and this is the entrée through a league that's under the NBA umbrella. You're going to get plenty of exposure and publicity [with] twenty home games on ESPN and ESPN 2." Is there room for another minor basketball league?
