He has also served as head coach at Boston University, Providence College and the University of Kentucky, leading that program to the NCAA championship in 1996. He has coached on the professional level for the NBA's New York Knicks and Boston Celtics with mixed results. Pitino holds the distinction of being the only men's coach in NCAA history to lead three different schools (Providence, Kentucky, and Louisville) to the Final Four. In addition, Pitino has achieved a measure of success as an author and a motivational speaker. ( Al ) Skinner (born June 16, 1952 in Mount Vernon, New York ) is an American men's college basketball head coach and a former collegiate and professional basketball player. He was formerly the head coach of the Boston College men's basketball team . Playing career College Skinner played at the University of Massachusetts . While on the freshman team in the 1970-71 season, the varsity team was led by Julius Erving , in what would be Erving's final season in college. (Skinner and Erving would later play together professionally.) Skinner was also a teammate of Rick Pitino . Camby (born March 22, 1974 in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American professional basketball player, who currently plays for the Portland Trail Blazers of the NBA. He is a former defensive player of the year during the 200607 NBA season, leading the league in blocked shots per game. Camby is also a two-time member of the NBA all-defensive team. Camby, a native of Connecticut, began his high school career at Conard High School in West Hartford. He transferred to Hartford Public High School where he finished his High School education. Camby played three seasons at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is second all-time in total blocked shots (336) at UMass and the fourth-ever college player to have at least 300 total career blocked shots.
