Product Description
Through unique photographs and words, this book captures what Gordie Howe has meant to a storied franchise, teammates, a legion of loyal fans and the entire hockey world. Mr. Hockey shattered scoring records and established himself as the face of the game during his 26 seasons in the National Hockey League. Howe won four Stanley Cups, six Hart Trophies as league MVP, and six scoring titles. Following his playing days in Detroit, Howe was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972, but returned to hockey to play with his sons for two additional pro seasons. Famous for his fierce elbows, uncanny scoring ability and legendary charisma, Howe retired with 801 goals, 1,049 assists and 1,850 points -- all NHL records at the time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Purchase
I was very impressed with this book. I purchased this book for my grandson and he and an adult friend of his family sat there for hours with that book going over the pages and talking about the information they were getting from the book. I would rcommend this book for any person who is a history buff but more importantly any one who is a Red Wing hockey fan. ... Read more

Product Description
Known for decades throughout North America as "Mr. Hockey," Gordie Howe played 32 full seasons in the NHL (and WHA). During that time, he (and the Red Wings) won four Stanley Cups and nine Prince of Wales Trophies (most points in the regular season). He won the Hart Trophy (League MVP) six times, the Art Ross Trophy (most individual points) six times, and appeared in 20 All-Star games. His career statistics (including the WHA) are (with the singular exception of Wayne Gretzky), unparalleled in the history of the sport.

Howe's numbers for total games played (2,421) and total penalty minutes (2,419) are extraordinary. He was among the strongest, toughest and most talented players on the ice. In his late forties he was still feared and revered by men half his age.

Lavishly illustrated with images from the Harold Barkley Archives plus dozens of pieces (photos and memorabilia) from the Howe family's own extensive collection, "Gordie" is a fitting tribute to "Mr. Hockey." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Hockey, plain and simple...
I read this book back in November of 1999.The co-author Frank Condron did an excellent job with Gordie Howe in putting this historical book together. On top of the simple fact that a picture is worth 1,000 words. The whole book is a Hockey Pictoral Treasure.Mr. Condron did an excellentjob of writing this book. What I mean by that is.Simply because youdon't feel your reading Gordies words. Its like Mr. Howe is right next toyou and he is pointing at each picture as you turn every page. Also it isquite obvious after all the press, awards and fame, Gordie Howe is still agentleman.

5-0 out of 5 stars TRUE HOCKEY MEMORBILIA!
This work represents the finest photo collectionof GORDIE HOWE'S career to date. If YOU are old enough to remember the epic battles between the Montreal Canadians and the Detroit Red Wings of the 1950's-60's, YOU canrelive these times in photo concepts - eg. Howe's 545 goal in the MontrealForum eclipsing Rocket Richards's record and the 15 minute standing ovationby Montreal fans; Howe's commentary on the Montreal dynasty once JacquePlante and Jean Bellevue arrived on the hockey scene; the skilledfis-ti-cuffs of Gordie Howe against bad boy, Lou Fontinato of the New YorkRangers; and Howe's best picks of NHL players he most admired! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT HOCKEY BOOK
Gordie a Hockey Legend is book is a great book for anyone who knows about hockey and what the sport is and how it has evolved for its early stages with the popular players like Gordie Howe, He really set the bar in hockey back in his days. He held the NHL scoring title with the most goals in his career with 801 goals until "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky passed him in April of 1993.Gordie is really a Hockey legend.

Gordie is really a legend. He was Known for his ability to be tough anytime during a game, and get the goals, and stand up for his team at anytime needed. This Book was really good in my view. It described his great career, and his life leading up to and being in the NHL.

I would recommend this book to a lot of my friends, especially to my friends that like, and or play hockey. This book really shows the meaning for, and how hockey started to become more popular especially in the United States and in Canada. I really liked this book, and it is one of my favorites, and I would recommend it to anyone. This is truly a great book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gordie Howe
Gordie Howe: A hockey legend tells about his whole life. From when he was little kid, to when he made it in the NHL. It tells about how he first came upon hockey as a little kid. It tells about his carrer and the NHL. I thought that this book was ok. Not horrible but not excellent. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about gordie howe, or wants to read about him.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book on Gordie Howe!
This book tells about Gordie Howe, one of the best hockey players ever, and his career in the NHL.In the beginning, it tells about his first couple of seasons, and then tells more about his great career and facts about himtoward the end. I learned a lot about him from this book, for example, Ilearned that he has played for two teams, the Hartford Whalers and theDetroit Red Wings, and that he was considered one of the greatest playersof his time.

4-0 out of 5 stars An enthralling look at professional hockey's past, and stars
As a lifetime fan of the Detroit Red Wings, I was overjoyed when I found that there is a recent biography of Howe that is much more up to date than many written in the 60's and 70's.This book gives the reader an insidelook at what it was like to get into the NHL in the 50's, and what it tookto stay there and become a star.Mackskimming is very candid when talkingabout the front office's team management "politics"The readeralso gets an up-close look at other great stars of the era such as RedKelly, Ted Linsay, Maurice "Rocket" Richard, and coach JackAdams.A must read for any TRUE hockey fan.

3-0 out of 5 stars Starts out great, but ends up only a good book on Howe.
The book starts out covering Howe in excellent detail. Several pages coverhis first seasons. Then as if the author lost interest, the decades goflying by.My reasons for reading the book was to find out, why Howe wasconsidered great, how Howe compared to Richard, how the game changed overthe years and what it was about Howe that enabled him to play for so long. The book only addressed how Howe established his early greatness. ... Product Description
Family ties have been an enduring part of hockey history since the beginning of the NHL. Ken Dryden was asked why it is that hockey ties are so prevalent in hockey compared to other professional sports leagues. Part of it, he theorized, was the nature of the long Canadian winter that leaves kids without much else to do. Dryden also thought that hockey's rural roots may have something to do with it, "Hockey players have historically come from smaller places rather than bigger places. In a smaller place you have fewer options and it is more likely in a smaller place that if one kid from a family gets involved in hockey, other kids are going to get involved too."

Hockey Dynasties is an era by era look at the proliferation of family ties in professional hockey. The book will examine why there are so many families in professional hockey, and will include tales by the players about their time at center ice playing with and against their siblings/ fathers/cousins/uncles.

Hockey families included are: Ken and Dave Dryden, Wayne and Brent Gretzky, Eric and Brett Lindros, Charlie, Roy and Lionel Conacher, Bobby and Brett Hull, Maurice and Henri Richard, Pete and Frank Mahovlich, Gordie, Mark and Vic Howe, Marcel and Gilbert Dionne, Brian and Joe Mullen, Sylvain and Pierre Turgeon, Russ and Geoff Courtnall, The Sutter Brothers (Ron, Brent, Brian, Darryl, Duane, Rich), Phil and Tony Esposito, The Stastny Brothers (Peter, Anton, and Marian), Pavel and Valeri Bure, The Hunter Brothers (Dale, Mark, Dave), Lynn, Lester and Craig Patrick, Neil, Aaron and Paul Broten, Max, Doug and Reg Bentley, Bun and Bill Cook, George and Frank Boucher, Neil and Max Colville, Dennis, Bryan, Sr. and Bryan, Jr. Hextall. ...
Excellent book with lots of great ideas and encouragement, very well organized and presented.Don't be fooled by the title--anyone who reads this book is very smart to do so.I highly recommend this book especially to newcomers.Easy and fun to read with so much good information that I can't wait to read it again. Dirk Zeller is one of the most respected trainers in real estate.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for starting out in Real Estate
This is a good book for starting out in Real Estate sales. Done with easy-to-understand techniques, this book has all the tools you will ever need to rocket to the top of the profession in as little time as possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars What I needed to know
I looked at a number of books before I ordered this one - they were more motivational in nature - this book is concise and it has specifics that I used to set quantifiable goals - also filled with tidbits about minefields to avoid stepping into as a new agent. Finally - it's an interesting read - not just a bunch of facts - I'd give it more stars if that were possible. Thanks to the author for putting this together - you saved me from some mistakes I know I would have made!

2-0 out of 5 stars Anecdotal, Self-Promoting, and Manipulative Trainer
Regarding working with colleagues, author's advice sounds an awful lot like it treads and/or crosses the line into unlawful and unethical conduct. One of several examples:He says to refer clients to loan officers, and to seek their referrals in turn.I believe that to be specifically outlined as an unlawful kickback in California.

I picked this book up at the library, and am hugely grateful I didn't pay for it."Dirk" the author talks a lot about how great he is, tells a lot of stories that are not particularly insightful or useful, and he seems to be using this book as a platform to sell other products to hopeful real estate agents.

Finally, the techniques/scripts he prescribes for client conversations are manipulative and a little creepy.

All that said, there is some useful information in the book. And I'll admit there are plenty of real estate agents out there that reap huge financial rewards by being underhanded and pompous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and concise
Excellent reference book.I am presently taking the 2 required PA Real Estate courses to take the required licensing exam. The combination of th "Real Estate for Dummies" and the course materials pretty much prepares you to become an agent. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Goalie & An Even Better Human Being
It's no surprise that Johnny Bower is beloved in Toronto. If you've ever met him, or seen him interviewed or read this wonderful book, you know why people all love Mr. Bower.

His success story as a longtime hockey goalie, many years in the minors and then an amazing run in the NHL, is one thing but even better is to find a person whom nobody has a bad word about. It's no cliche, at least here with Johnny Bower.Everyone has always loved the guy whether they were teammates or opponents.

You can find out why that's the case with this book co-written by Bower and veteran hockey writer Bob Duff. This is a nice book, with no profanity and no hard edge to it, yet interesting all the way.Wherever you are you can put the book down and feel good about what you've read, and want to read more. That's kind of a nice thing to have. ...
