4-0 out of 5 stars Great photos, and facts about your favorite skaters
I got this book for Christmas in 1994, and was fortunate enough to meet Elvis Stojko prior to the Canadian Figure Skating championships in Halifax in January, 1995.He was gracious, and gladly autographed my copy of this book. The figure skating fan will enjoy this book and its coverage of skating through the years. The new fan will enjoy learning about the figure skating disciplines, jumps and fan favorites, who are still entertaining us today in ice shows.I have shared this book with people who do not follow figure skating and it was most helpful in giving information on the who's who from skating in the nineties, and how these skaters have influenced today's skating generation. This book would make a great gift for the new or old fan alike, worth 4 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE best skating coffee table book out there....
If you are a skater or an educated fan of skating, this is the definitive skating book that should be the centerpiece of your skating book collection.A+!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great History of the Sport!
I own many, many skating books and this one by far contains the best overall history of skating. If you are a relatively new fan of the sport, you should definitely include it in your collection! It is also the least biased of the general 'coffee table' skating books -- although it is obvious that every skating author has their favorites, I never felt that Smith at any point in the book was forcing her opinions on the reader.Overall, a TERRIFIC book that should be mandatory in all "History of Skating 101" classes! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Objective Presentation of All Skaters!
I re-read this book after paging through the ludicrously biased InsideFigure Skating and found it once again to be a wonderful breath of freshair.True, the author seems to spotlight more Canadian skaters than mostother books, but unlike books like Inside Figure Skating, Smith presentseach skater she profiles objectively and equally.I enjoy reading thisbook every few months or so, as it is a great refresher on the history'ssport. My only complaint is that the copy of the book I have does notfeature prominent skating stars of today -- I do hope to see Beverly Smithwrite another book soon featuring more of the skaters on the past 3 yearsor so.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's Okay, but not my favorite
This book has many nice photographs and for that reason would be a nice addition to a skating library. Unfortunately it is somewhat lacking in substance and textual content. As for the "bias" issue raised byother reviewers, I say "what do you expect?"....after all theauthor is Canadian! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Early Bird Catches the Worm...
This is a fantastic book written by Linda. She sent me a copy of it (and the other three books - Scott, Michelle (Kwan), and Oksana), and this is deffinately my favorite. There's a lot of fantastic pictures, and great writing on Elvis, and who he is.At the beginning of each chapter, there's also a quote (by the skater), which really reflects his (or her) personality. If your just starting to learn about skating, don't worry, this book has been written in a way that is easy to understand, even by the beginner, and has a glossary at the end.See ya on the ice, -Kathy :) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Book with Great Pictures!
I've always admired Elvis Stojko, and carefully watched his career. The Olympics aren't the same without his participation! One of my favorite ice skaters. He is so exciting to watch on ice.

There were so many beautiful pictures in the book. But, I was hoping for more personal information about him. I wish he had spoken more in depth about his Olympics experiences, the feelings, the athletes, disappointments, etc. There was very little of that in this book. There are loads and loads of gorgeous pictures of him which any fan can appreciate.

Still, it's a good book to have if you are an Elvis Fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars IF YOU LOVE ELVIS STOJKO THEN YOU'LL LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!
This is a wonderful book for fans of Elvis! There are such great photographs of him. If you are a fan of Elvis then you MUST have this book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A deffinate must have book for any Elvis fan!!
Icannot put this book down. The pictures are some of the best I've everseen.I especially liked his philisophical views on winning and losing.Ialso like the way he leaves us wanting for more.I hope he writes a sequalvery soon!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart and soul, is exactly what Elvis shows.
Elvis' book Heart and Soul is a wise, dignified and honourable account of Elvis' thoughts on training, competitions and his own life trials. By reading what Elvis wrote and seeing the breathtaking photos the reader gets a deeper appreciation for this amazing man. This book comes highly recomended for anyone who is on their own journey, looking to become wiser and more aware of the person in which he is through life's trials and accoplishments. It is simply one of the most inspiring stories of struggle, championship, courage, dignity, and honour one will ever read.

5-0 out of 5 stars The skating book of the year
I couldn't have been more impressed with this oversized, picture packed coffee table book. Rather than following the same old biography style, and sharing all the details of his family life, Elvis gives his readers a peak into the mind of world champion figure skater. For his fans, it was a chance to get to know him a bit more and the title couldn't be more fitting to someone who always gives his all to his performances.I appreciate his honesty and his humility as he shares about his experiences.

A very inspiring and delightful book with some great *quotables* in it!I look forward to enjoying some more awesome skating from this classy champion!

A must-have for all skating fans! ... Read more
