Product Description
The candid, revealing autobiography of soccer's greatest and most controversial star.“Sometimes I think that my whole life is on film, that my whole life is in print. But it’s not like that. There are things which are only in my heart—that no one knows. At last I have decided to tell everything.”—Diego Maradona

A poor boy from a Buenos Aires shanty town, Diego Maradona became a genius with the soccer ball, kicking his way to the heights of South American, European, and world soccer, yet his struggles with the pressures of life inside and outside the game repeatedly threatened to tear him and his legend down. Hero or villain, one thing about Maradona is certain: He was the greatest soccer player of his generation—and perhaps of all-time. Never before has the legendary Maradona given us his extraordinary story in his own words—until now.

From his poverty-stricken origins to his greatest glories on the field, Maradona recounts, with astonishing frankness and brilliant insight, the pivotal moments of his life—the pressures of being a child prodigy, the infamous semi-final game against England in the 1986 World Cup, an incredible turn-around and the dream-turned-sour at Napoli, and the shame and disgrace of his positive drug test at USA 1994. In this amazingly honest autobiography, we see inside the mind of one of the most talented, controversial, and complex sportsmen of our times—a man torn between the demands of corporate club bosses, the fans, the media, and his own tempestuous personal life.

With a new epilogue exclusive to this paperback edition that brings Maradona’s remarkable story up-to-date and more than eighty wonderful photographs, Maradona is a confessional, a revelation, an apology, and a celebration. 20 color and 63 black-and-white photographs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great History
Add your collection item with this stuff. It is one of greatest autograph from footballer of the century. He not only told about when he on the top level but also when he fallen down into drugs addiction and how he trying fight against his self. This book also complete with some of color pictures including with his childhood until his retirement period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
If you are interested in Maradona, read this book.Plenty of stuff I hadn't known before.

5-0 out of 5 stars very quick service and good quality
the book I purchased arrived quickly although I only use the starndard shipping. The book is also in very good quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Diego.
I have always been a fan of Maradona.I have yet to witness someone as good with the ball.Diego can invent, dance and make things happen with a ball.Tis auto biography is special because it is crafted from the master himself. He goes back to his childhood as poor as it was and one sees the struggle children like him faced everyday not only to play soccer but to live.Diego is straight to the point in this book...hence you meet with his emotions, his anger, his joys in football and family life. After all he is not only a football god but most importantly....a human being.I am a great england supporter but i will admire Maradona forever for his contribution to world soccer.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Great Contradiction that is Maradona
Explosive, confrontational, arrogant, unapologetic, with no holds barred. What else to expect from the controversial Diego Armando Maradona. This is an autobiography in the purest sense of the word.A journey into the extremes and excesses of a God-given talent who took on the world and won...and lost...and moved on.The subject matter himself is a fascinating read.Any football junkie would want to know how he grew to be such a talent that he is.Who were his football heroes? What was going on in his head when he committed the 'hand of God'.

And yet there are areas where he only skims the surface - his drug addiction, his womanizing.Maradona wants this autobiography to be first and foremost about his love affair with soccer, and his trials and tribulations in navigating the politics of the game. I'm not too sure if this paints a complete picture of the man.

What I do admire about Maradona in this book is his numerous recollections of the little guys - those otherwise unsung individuals who at various points in his life had touched him and made a difference.Despite being the most sought after player during his heydays, and among the richest and most powerful footballer in the world, Maradona has vivid details of his encounters and speaks of them with the highest regard.

Perhaps in typical fashion, Maradona sets out to defy convention - don't try to put him in a box.You just cannot define the man with a single label. It is as Maradona says at the end "I'm me, Maradona.I am El Diego'

3-0 out of 5 stars Yo Soy El Diego: The Translated Version
"The bittersweet memoir of soccer's most controversial and entertaining star, Maradona (born 1960), recounts his precipitous rise to fame and glory from humble origins in an Argentine shantytown. The book is remarkable not only for the inside look at some of the soccer world's most important events and figures of the last three decades but for the candid exploration of Maradona's polemical life off the field. His struggle with the immense pressure of fame studies once deemed him the most recognized public figure on the planet and his confrontation with the powers that be are all chronicled with a familiar and picaresque tone that illustrates his (often-flawed) profound humanity. Maradona's autobiography paints several often contradictory portraits: family man, creative genius, loyal friend, tragic hero, temperamental artist, man of the people, and rebellious child. The truth about Maradona lies in none of these incarnations but rather in the contradictory sum of his parts; he is ultimately an enigmatic yet sincere human being, a brazen child from the slums who suddenly found himself dining with popes and was unafraid to speak his mind. No matter is too delicate for Maradona's acerbic tongue: the discrimination endured by southern Italians in their homeland as perceived during his playing days in Naples, the corruption of the Catholic Church, his lifelong addiction to cocaine, and his strained relationship with the politicians and bureaucrats who have used him when convenient, among other issues. His is the defiant life story of one of the century's most brilliant and incisive athletes. Recommended for all public libraries and bookstores. Fernando Cwilich, New York."

I saw this in the library one day and took it out. All I knew about Maradona was the "Hand Of God" and solo goal in the same match. I decided to try this book."

It's a bit hard to digest this book as it's translation means it may not have the same feel asin it's original language. I had Maradona slang and words, which gave it a great personal feel and made it seem better. Maradona just tells it as he experienced it, which does make it better than I expected. I do see his point in some bits, especially when he mentioned how cocaine DOESN'T help your energy like steroids does, if my memory remembers my science right, because if that's true, he shouldn't have gooten banned.

It's not too long, not too short and has some humourous situations in it, which lightened the subject matter. I would like to see him bring out a new version with new chapters of whats happened since. This book is good as it does give you food for thought, which Maradona probably enjoyed.

2-0 out of 5 stars pele is still king you fools
pele will always continue tobe the true master&king of soccer notmaradona

5-0 out of 5 stars Pero quien puede discutir....

5-0 out of 5 stars Truth about Diego's life from Diego's mouth
Don't expect to find in this book Diego's advice about not making the same mistakes he made, or Diego explicitly expressing his point of view about a specific topic/event in his life.
This book is the life of Maradona told By Maradona, it is simply the truth told with emotions and feelings about his life since he was little until he retired. You will find a detailed compendium/compilation of facts about Maradona's life/career, told the way Diego remembers and feels these happened.
You can feel his love and devotion for football when you read this book, because throughout his life all that surrounded Diego was football. ... Read more
