Worth the Money
I just purchased the DVD and It was worth the money. The only thing was they didn't have any interviews with their mother.
The story of Richard In Shreveport Louisana being held down
and having something nailed in his leg sent Chills down my spine
I am originally from Louisiana myself. The footage with the girls on the carasel was too cute Venus helping Serena even then
to be safe was cute. Man they have a heavy workout routine to prepare for tournaments. Richard is really the man to manage to come from where he did to make it to the place he is now.
So all in all this was a pretty good story I loved the footage with each grand slam they won. I was really nice to see them at home just relaxing in between their workouts.Go out and bye the tape it's worth it once again. ... Read more

Behind the scenes: Venus & Serena
Dave Rineberg comes across in this boook as not only a competent coach, but also as a proud fatherly type influence in Serena & Venus's lives. Obviously, Richard WIlliams was the dominant figure in their formative years, but this book really shows how Rineberg was kept in the shadows & made to feel unappreciated by Richard Williams. Underpaid & often rudely dismissed, Rineberg still retained a committment to the girls' tennis game, to their hitting sessions, and their tournament appearances. He put up with RW's outlandish behavior for the benefit of the Serena & Venus, who you could see he developed alot of fondness towards. Serena & Venus come across as regular teen girls, although very athletic & determined. So for that reason, I was really left feeling sad at the end of the book, with what seemed to be a lack of closure for the coach. Overall, a well-written account of the Williams sisters' transition from tennis players to champions, sometimes with detailed match reviews and some secret tennis training tips. Very intriguing read, sometimes hard to put down. Reccomended for all, especially tennis lovers.

The real Serena and Venus
If you are a diehard tennis fan, this may be a good book for you.It's a behind the scenes look at their development from early teens to young pros.As you might imagine, Serena and Venus come across as the loving, precocious girls they are.Their father comes across as the self-important, spotlight-grabbing huckster that he is.

Richard Williams always projected himself as the only coach of the sisters.Rineberg dispels that notion and discusses his involvement in their development.As a relative unknown tennis coach, it must have been a thrill to be given the opportunity to coach such gifted athletes.

But the real benefit of this book is the opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at what type people Serena and Venus are.I think this book does an excellent job of exhibiting their personality.Both are outgoing, fun girls who clearly have a great love for each other.Coming from a different tennis background having not played any junior tournaments, there was great resentment to their potential.This resentment, I believe, has caused many to wrongly dislike the Williams sisters.But whether you like or dislike the sisters, it's very clear that they are very unique, intelligent and fun-loving sisters.

Overall, this book doesn't have much to say."I was lucky to coach two great kids.Their dad is a huckster who doesn't follow-thru on his promises."But, to get a behind the scenes look at the real personality of the Williams sisters, that was enough for me.

Very highly recommended for tennis fans

Superbly written and enthusiastically recommended biography
There were few professional tennis players as flamboyant and colorful as Bobby Riggs who will probably be forever remembered in the now legendary "battle of the sexes" match against Billie Jean King. What is not so widely known is that Bobby's life off court was as outrageous and theatrical as his on-court behavior. Freelance journalist Tom LeCompte has written a biographical masterpiece with The Last Sure Thing: The Life & Times Of Bobby Riggs which is a "must read" for the legions of this memorable figure of the tennis world, a man who carries a large slice of the credit for popularizing the sport through all levels of American society. This superbly written and enthusiastically recommended biography reads with all the smoothness and drama of a finely crafted novel, and will hook the reader's complete and total attention from first page to last.

Great Book!
Thorougly enjoyed The Last Sure Thing.Easy to read and full of great details as well as humor.Lots of research went in to the book!I would highly recommend this read for anyone.

Real Life Character Fights His Way to the Top of Tennis
Tom LeCompte has writtten a thoroughly entertaining account of a tennis great who defies categorization. The Last Sure Thing is the story of a world champion who never quite acted like one; a man who was intent on winning in any arena, as long as there were clearly defined stakes involved. Not so good when the returns were unclear or long range, Bobby's family life was filled with gaping holes and serious blunders. LeCompte paints a fascinating portrait of a man who appears to have been sailing above concern for intimacy, loyalty, maturity and fidelity in his relentless and quite possibly compulsive search for the endless game, the bet around the next corner.
Is this type of blind drive necessary to the making of a champion competitor or was Bobby Riggs simply a talented but hapless loser who missed his chance for lasting glory and respect due to immaturity and shortsightedness? LeCompte covers all bases and leaves the reader to wonder - what if... A thoroughly engaging account of a man, a game, and an era - highly recommended.
