Extractions: Designed To Improve Service The goal of the Euclid Corridor Transportation Project is to improve transit service, as well as support increased development along Euclid Avenue. The project will provide shorter travel times along Euclid Avenue and linkages with other RTA services for better access to work, home and medical, educational, and cultural centers in Greater Cleveland. The project supports: B us Rapid Transit Line The Bus Rapid Transit line will connect the central business district (the region's largest employment center) with the University Circle area (the second largest employment center) and major cultural, medical and educational districts. The idea of Bus Rapid Transit is to provide the quality of rail transit, while benefiting from the flexibility of buses. Euclid Avenue will be served by a unique, aerodynamic, 60 foot Euclid Corridor Vehicle (ECV), which will be quiet and environmentally friendly. Currently, the proposed vehicle is a diesel-electric bus, similar to ones that currently operate in France. The vehicles use a low-sulfur diesel motor to power smaller electrical engines mounted near the wheels of the vehicle.

Extractions: Euclid is the most prominent mathematician of antiquity best known for his treatise on geometry The Elements Little is known of Euclid's life except that he taught at Alexandria in Egypt. The Elements was a compilation of geometrical knowledge that became the centre of mathematical teaching for 2000 years. Probably no results in The Elements are due to him but the organisation of the material and its exposition are his. The Elements begins with definitions and axioms, including the famous fifth, or parallel, postulate that one and only one line can be drawn through a point parallel to a given line. Euclid's decision to make this an axiom led to Euclidean geometry. It was not until the 19th century that this axiom was dropped and non-euclidean geometries were studied. However, Euclid's effort is more than just a simple compilation of previous works. It is the first systematic approach to Geometry; the first axiomatic approach of its kind. Although usually associated with Geometry, The Elements also contained some works on Number Theory. Although, the formal system advocated by Euclid is incomplete, for the majority of us Euclid's Geometry is good enough, because it is simple yet concise. In the 20th century, David Hilbert completed the system by increasing the number of axioms from 5 to 20, and proved that the resulting system is complete and consistent. However, Euclid's effort cannot be underestimated. In fact, The Elements remained the Geometry text for 2000 years and is still used because of its simplicity. An it is the fifth postulate of The Elements that sprout the various non-Euclidean Geometry known to us now. This great work contains 13 books.
