Der Mensch als Held der Geschichte dankt ab: drei Romane aus der Perspektive von Tieren von Harald Jähner E In diesem Herbst der Neuerscheinungen greift die Sprache nach den Tieren. In ungewöhnlich vielen Romanen spricht es am Rande aus Schnäbeln und Schnauzen; in Rafi Zabors großartigem Künstlerroman "Der Bär kommt heim" spielt ein Tanzbär Saxofon und macht mit einem unmenschlichen Blues eine Karriere als Jazzmusiker. Drei Romane aber erzählen ohne fabelhafte Aufsteigerorientierung an der Menschensphäre ganz aus der Perspektive von Tieren: John Berger und Paul Auster aus der Hundesicht; Barbara Gowdys Roman "Der weiße Knochen" spielt ausschließlich unter Elefanten. In John Bergers "King" findet sich eine Geschichtstheorie, die den massiven Einzug der Tiere in die Literatur begründet. "Alles beginnt mit dem Zeitalter der Götter, wenn alles neu ist und alles, sogar das Schlimmste, möglich. Dann kommt die Ärä der Heroen, Helena schläft sich quer durch Troja, und die Griechen entdecken das Tragische. Darauf folgt die Epoche der Menschen, die Zeit der Politik und der Opfer - doch nicht mehr für die Götter, sondern für menschliche Gerechtigkeit. Am Ende steht das Zeitalter der Hunde." Nach diesem Geschichtsbild sind wir jetzt schon so weit. Das Zeitalter der Hunde dämmert in der angeblich nachpolitischen Postmoderne schon auf. Dem gänzlich utopielosen Liberalismus entspricht der Wunsch, zu verstehen, wie die anderen Kreaturen herumwursteln. Ohne emphatisches Geschichtsbild ist das Selbstverständnis des Menschen als Krone der Schöpfung und Herr der Erde zerrüttet - dem Verlust der Heilserwartung entspricht das literarische Experiment, die Übergangszone zwischen Tier und Mensch abseits der Fabel und der "Hasenschule" aus der Kinderzeit aufs Neue zu erkunden. Die Zeit der perfekt durchrationalisierten Nutztierverwertung ist zugleich eine Zeit nie zuvor gekannter Wissbegier gegenüber Tieren als beseelten Wesen. Man lauscht den Gesängen der Wale auf CD, Autisten werden therapiert, indem sie mit Delfinen in dieselben Schwimmbecken steigen. Und nun fingieren Autoren, wie Tiere denken könnten.
