Extractions: Peter Madgett Timothy Dawson, Double Bass Timothy is in his seventeenth season with the TSO. He began his studies in Edmonton, with Peter Marck, who is now Co-Principal bass of the Israel Philharmonic . Timothy continued his education at the University of Toronto , with Tom Monohan (then Principal Bass of the TSO). He graduated in the spring of 1979 and started with the TSO in January of 1980. Squeezed into that interim period were studies in Italy with Franco Petracchi, and at the Banff Centre with Stuart Knussen. Stuart was the Principal Bass of the London Symphony Orchestra and the father of Oliver Knussen, the well known English composer. Since joining the Orchestra, Timothy has been actively involve in organizing concerts. Two groups have grown out of this love of chamber music. One is Basstiality (TSO Bass Quartet). Four member of the double bass section have a lot of fun together, playing an increasing number of concerts each year. The other group is the Bach Consort, comprised of up to 30 instrumentalists and singers. The group has recorded two CDs with all the proceeds going to charity. Timothy has been involved with the TSOs Adopt - A - Player project since its inception in 1994. This exciting project involves TSO musicians working with classes of school children over an extended period of time and helping the kids to compose and perform their own music. This project addresses the very future of classical music in Toronto and helps to introduce many children to symphonic music in an exciting and unique manner.
