Extractions: Have you ever heard traditional fiddle music? One well-known fiddler, Henry Reed, grew up in Glen Lyn, Virginia. Reed was born in 1884 and grew up in a musical family. He spent most of his life performing fiddle tunes that bring to mind the history of the state's Appalachian frontier. Reed learned an amazing number of tunes, most of them by ear. He knew a wide variety of melodies, such as those from the early American frontier, waltzes, popular tunes from the turn of the 20th century, and 19th century marches. The style of Henry Reed's fiddle playing, like the style of other older fiddlers in the South, is a combination of different influences. For instance, the rhythms he used came from both European and African American influences. American Indian music may also have made an impact on the method of playing that Reed learned so many years ago. During the mid-1960s, folklorist Alan Jabbour recorded Henry Reed performing fiddle tunes. Many of the traditional tunes Reed played became popular again during the fiddling revival of the later 20th century.

An extract should suffice to show what I mean: "Guns and gardens, soldiers and bees: the poem relates the unrelated in order to draw a clear dichotomy between the forces of life and the forces of death. However, the poem goes further than merely contrasting opposites. The structure and language of the poem combine to demonstrate how one should become the other. The eschatological hope expressed by the harmonious image of this Eden begs and demands a transformation or conversion into communion with the natural order. The poem demonstrates that war is contrary to nature."

His speciality is cultivating the creative spirit in others, working from both humanistic and transpersonal viewpoints. H e received his Ph.D. from U.C.L.A. and was Assistant Professor of Psychology at Princeton University and Professor of Transpersonal Studies at Atlantic University. He has authored several popular books and professional articles and produced several instructional videos. H e was termed the "Father of the Dreamwork movement" because of his creation of Sundance: The Community Dream Journal , that helped spark the national dreamwork movement. He had a one-man show of his dream inspired watercolor paintings at the Virginia Beach Center for the Arts, and created an annual "Dreams and Creativity" program for the City of Virginia Beach. He also consulted on a three hour series for the Discovery channel on dreams. He now leads people on home-based dream quests and paints watercolor mandalas for them as a channel of prayer support. The Smithsonian Institute invited him to give a lecture about his "Dream Solutions" method of creative dream work.

Educated at the King Edward VI Grammar School, Aston, Birmingham and the University of Birmingham , graduating with first class honours. A thesis on Thomas Hardy gained him his Master of Arts. He worked as a journalist and teacher before being called-up to serve in the British Army from 1941, but he was soon transferred to intelligence work until the end of the war. His literary skills ensured continuing work with the British Broadcasting Corporation and he became a frequent broadcaster and author of plays for radio. His only work for television was in 1969 when he collaborated with Ken Russell on a play about the composer Richard Strauss. Only one volume of poetry was published in his lifetime, A map of Verona (1946) and this includes Naming of parts , perhaps his most well known poem. William lived with his parents in Jackson Township - Reed's Grove - near the old cemetery we visited. Nov. 5, 1857 she married John Shoemaker. Their children were Delavan Dayton (born Sept. 20, 1858) Francis Sylvester (March 1, 1861) and John Fletcher (Mar. 16, 1863). John Shoemaker served with the 100th Illinois Infantry and died at Nashville, Tennessee Feb 14, 1863. Some time after John died (measles, not at bullet) Lorena took the 3 little boys and moved in with the Eversolls. William did not escape from Andersonville. He was released at the end of the war - mustered out June 15, 1865. He had enlisted in Wilmington, Ill. Aug 15, 1861. Co. A was raised mostly in Wilmington and left Chicago Oct 13, 1861 for Camp Benton, Mo. From there they were sent to Hagerstown, Maryland. He was captured with his pal, Corp. Thomas De Line (from Elwood) at Wier Bottom Church near Fredricksburg, Va. June 20, 1864. Lorena said she was glad to marry again as three little boys with copper-toed boots were almost too much for grandparents who had raised only girls.

Those who do believe that dreams have meaning have come to understand that dreams are generally meant to reflect upon the dreamer's own personal experiences and perhaps to guide the dreamer's life. According to previous surveys, however, dreams are also the most common arena of personal experience with a transpersonal dimension in life, a factor beyond the limits of time and space that transcends the personal. The transpersonal aspect of dreaming has largely been explored by studies of information exchange through dream telepathy. In this paper we will describe a novel experimental paradigm involving a group ceremony for soliciting help from transpersonal dreaming. It demonstrates that ordinary dreams can contain guidance for someone in addition to the dreamer. Let us first describe the procedure as you might experience it for yourself. The Initiation of Transpersonal Dreaming Imagine attending a "Dream Helper Ceremony." You find yourself among a group of people, mostly strangers, who are gathered together for an overnight healing service. The conductor of the ceremony explains, "tonight, most of you will not be dreaming for yourself, but for someone else. You will discover your telepathic healing ability by putting it to work serving the needs of someone in distress."
