Book Description
"A series rich in provocative themes and artful plots."

*Joan Hess

THE TOWN FLORIST WILL SOON BE PUSHING UP DAISIES.

For Meredith Bradley *Jesus Creek's most successful businesswoman *life has been no bed of roses even though she's the proprietor of the Back Door Florist shop. Now, while other Jesus Creekers are partying at the grand opening of her daughter-in-law's NewAge tea room, Meredith Bradley is murdered.

Who did it? And why? Warmhearted cop Kay Martin hasn't a clue. Perhaps Meredith's illegitimate daughter is the culprit. Perhaps members of the mysterious Brotherhood of Strength. Or one of the mayor's extraterrestrial friends. With Chief Reb Gassler gone fishing and the rest of the J.C.P.D a tad short on brains, Kay has a hard row to hoe, especially since she'd do anything to help the bereaved family. Anything at all. Except cover for a killer. . . .

"Deborah Adams brings the rustic wit and wisdom of Lake Wobegon to the plains of middle Tennessee."

Book Description
Dan McClain bought the old Vickers farm hoping to find a peaceful retreat in Jesus Creek, Tennessee, but the town's unique reality hits home when skeletons start popping up in McClain's yard, followed by the murder of a beloved local resident.

Are the crimes connected? Amateur sleuth and genealogist Delia Cannon is determined to unearth the answer. As ghostly remnants of a long ago murder linger in the shadow of present day tragedy, Delia's passion for truth draws the attention of a killer who isn't about to let a decades-old crime come to light. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful, entertaining and layered with meaning
Deb Adams is my favorite modern mystery writer, bar none. And she does not disappoint in this great book in her Jesus Creek series. Her books often have a tongue-in-cheek feeling, with an underlying stream of consciousness that reflects social standards and Deb's own irony in play. Her fascination with geneaology and Jesse James is terrifically played out in All the Dirty Cowards and I can't wait for the next book! Get writing Deb!

4-0 out of 5 stars Deborah Does it again
Having read all of Deborah's other books, I had some idea of what to expect and was NOT disappointed. The characters in the present and the past were both animated and interesting. They were funny while still being realistic.Whatever subject Deobrah is enthused about at the moment (This time it was genealogy.) always comes through in her books. When she was into endurance riding, the book was horsey. Now she traces the ancestors of Jesse James-and gives some websites to start you tracing your own family. The only criticism I have is that the plot was a little light and plagued with coincedences, but youll never notice that while you're reading it.Just go with the flow and enjoy! ... Book Description
Twin Elms Inn Was Becoming a Three-Ring Circus...

...featuring the disappearing act of an eccentric rich girl and the psychic hired to find her. Innkeeper Kate Yancy has all she can do just to live there, let alone manage the place -- coping with a beauty-queen chambermaid, a religious-fanatic cook, a handful of eccentric guests, and a yardful of reporters.

It's a heady shot of excitement for little Jesus Creek, Tennessee, already in the throes of a Sesquicentennial celebration.

Murder is the only thing missing -- but not for long.

Set in the sultry heat of a Southern summer, Deborah Adams's first mystery is alight with small-town mischief, modest mayhem, and a homespun cast of unforgettable characters who turn a rural shindig into a real-life soap opera. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Agatha nominee left me flat
After being pretty impressed with recent Agatha first book nominees, I've been venturing back into some of the older nominees. This book, a nominee in 1991, wasn't very impressive. The story is set in a B&B in a small town in Tennessee.Far too much of the book is about the B&B and small town life.Such mystery as there is only gets rolling in the second half of the book.It seemed to me that the author's real agenda was to write about life in her town and the mystery was an afterthought.

Bottom-line: Not sure what this book did to earn a nomination and not surprised the series hasn't gone on to further critical acclaim. There's better southern small town mystery out there (Margaret Maron, Carolyn Hart and others).

4-0 out of 5 stars Murder, psychics, and Brother B. in Jesus Creek
Kate Yancy works at her brother's inn taking care of all the duties that her brother, the sometimes mayor and sometimes hotelier, can't be bothered to do.And "bothered" is just he word to describe how Kate feels about the events in her life. Not least of these events is the swarm of reporters that has descended upon the town of Jesus Creek to cover the disappearance of a mentally unstable rich girl. The girl checked into Kate's hotel one night and soon disappeared from her locked room. When the girl's parents hire a psychic to help them, the local religious figure, Brother B., runs around talking about the dangers of dealing with demons. After a séance, the psychic announces that he knows where the body will be found. To give away any more of the plot would be to give away too much of the story, but I can say safely that before all is said and done, very few people will turn out to be what they seemed, and murder will be done.Author Deborah Adams handles herself quite adeptly in her first outing, though it should be said that the ending is a too abrupt. Her characters are well-drawn and engaging, and she does a wonderful job of sharing the town with us.For mystery readers who like their mysteries cozy, "All the Great Pretenders" is recommended reading. ... Book Description
SOMEONE'S BEEN NURSING A MURDEROUS GRUDGE
AGAINST THE TOWN'S FAVORITE R.N.
Everybody swears that no one would ever lay a hand on Jesus Creek's angel of mercy, nurse Patrice Gentry. But the reality is there for all to see--Patrice's red T-bird in the nursing home parking lot with her dead body inside.
Police Chief Reb Gassler knows that though the victim may have been an angel, Jesus Creek isn't heaven and the charming widower, Dr. Steve Gentry, hasn't sprouted wings. In fact, he's said to be sleeping with more women than seems possible for a doctor with a full-time practice.
While Reb hunts for the truth, a killer lurks in the shadows--and Jesus Creek teeters on the ragged edge....
"Jesus Creek, Tennessee, is so vividly drawn that I feel as if I can take a stroll through town....Deborah Adams has created a series rich in provocative themes and artful plots."

4-0 out of 5 stars Ha Ha Ha Yikes!
Ms. Adams has spun an intricate little yarn that just might be plausible. I mean, the folks I come across in Jesus Creek seem just odd enough to be real, or maybe her storytelling weaves me in that closely. At any rate thisis a fine little whodunit with just the right air of creepiness that againI think, Could it be? This ain't blood and guts and hatchets andforensics... this is ole Reb Gassler, finishing his pecan pie, beginning acigarette and just kinda having a talk with the good Doctor. Or is he?Oooooooo. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Jeff knows how to do it!
Don't even think of writing a book proposal without reading this book. Jeff Herman gives you everything you need to know. Buy this book and Michael Larsen's "How to Write a Book Proposal" and you will not get turned down...

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT PRIMER
This book gives excellent examples, with quick and concise advice on getting a proposal written. I sold my first nonfiction book, "In the Saddle: Exploits of the 5th Georgia Cavalry During the Civil War" in 1999 using "Write The Perfect Book Proposal." And last month I used it to prepare a proposal for my second book "Rebels, Saints & Sinners: Savannah Personalities of the Past." Yet, as useful as "How To Write A Perfect Book Proposal" is, I would also recommend reading one or two others to help flesh out more detail where Herman and Adams are somewhat vague. In this game the more knowledge you have, the better your chances of success.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great examples and explanations.Excellent!
I bought this book on writing proposals at the suggestion of my literary agent who told me my proposal for my first book *really* needed help.I studied the examples in the book and the suggestions in the text and re-wrote my proposal, using what I had learned.Six weeks later, my agent called to tell me she had four offers on my book. The information here is excellent, clear, and easy to translate to suit your own book.It will stimulate your thinking about your proposal in new ways.I frequently recommend it to people in my classes and workshops who ask for advice about how to get published.~~Joan Mazza, author of DREAM BACK YOUR LIFE; DREAMING YOUR REAL SELF; WHO'S CRAZY ANYWAY?; and 3 books in The Guided Journal Series with Writer's Digest Books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book That Proves Its Point
Getting a book published on how to write a book proposal sounds like something that would be hard to do.One of the telling points of how good this book is that the authors explain how they did it:No one had everdeveloped a book that showed what makes for a successful proposal usingactual proposals.

Like the Chinese philosopher would have said, seeing asuccessful proposal is worth 1,000 books about how to write one.

Theexamples are even more interesting because they are annotated for theirgood and bad points.

I am working on a business book proposal now, andfour of the examples contained very valuable ideas and language that I needto capture for my proposal.I found it very practical, and marked up notesall over the text and examples.I will use this as a guide in my nextredraft.

I must admit to being chagrined by how much my past successfulbook proposals fall short of the mark established here. But I would havebeen slow to improve without the benefit of these examples.

If I cannotwrite a good book proposal now, the fault will be mine, not that of theauthors.

If you plan to write book proposals for nonfiction books, THISBOOK IS A MUST!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has the power to get you published!
This book shows you how to do it.From start to finish, if you want to write a winning proposal, devour this book, and heed it's every word. Two months after reading this book and developing a working proposal, Ireceived a contract from Random House for my book - Aha! - 10 Ways To FreeYour Creative Spirit and Find Your Great Ideas.

It worked for me, and itcan work for you. ... Read more

Book Description
The police have warned Jesus Creek folk that the town is on the Night Terror's itinerary, but thanks to the confabulations over the imminent St. Patrick's Day celebration, no one has time to stew over a madman who kills pretty blondes.

The only immediate consequence is that clever Kay -- Jesus Creek poet, waitress, and purveyor of cosmetics -- seizes the opportunity to promote her Lady Mystique Bashful Brunette hair color. But when she finds a pentagram and the words You Next carved into her front door, Kay feels the chill of the hunted.

When there's yet another murder, this one signed with the familiar pentagram, the Night Terror becomes Kay's personal horror, a constant nightmare from which she cannot seem to awaken.... ... Read more

Book Description
"An original sleuth, a delightful Southern setting . . ." D.R. Meredith

From the author of "All the Great Pretenders," another Jesus Creek mystery.
First there's the spectacular blaze that totals the antebellum home of genealogist Oliver Host. Then the appalling murder of librarian Estelle Carhart, a lady too softhearted even to collect fines for overdue books. Delia Cannon, a library volunteer and something of an amateur genealogist, suspects a connection between the crimes. But Delia doesn't yet realize that she already knows too much for her own good . . . and that somebody in Jesus Creek wants her to check out of the library and the sleuthing business -- permanently. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Adams Handles Heavy Issue With Taste
It isn't often that an author can handle a heavy issue like domestic violence with taste, much less with humor. However Deborah Adams has done just that in "All The Hungry Mothers". This is a fast-paced,funny, yet tragic, story that I could barely put down. Excellent read.

2-0 out of 5 stars Heavy societal issue doesn't fit into fun, light mystery.
I read mysteries for fun.I don't read them to hear about heavy societal issues, i.e., domestic violence.I've read all of the other Jesus Creek books except for one and have enjoyed them; except for this one.Ms. Adamshandles the domestic violence issue well, but in my opinion, it justdoesn't belong in light, amusing stories of Jesus Creek. ...
