Product Description
North Adams is nestled in a comfortable valley in the northern Berkshire Mountains. It exhibits a rich diversity of character, mirrored by its textured and varied environment. The city's history goes back to the 1700s, with a military encounter during the French and Indian War that set the tone for future challenges. Through vintage postcards, North Adams reflects the unique history of this city. The postcards represent what is essentially a highlight tour of North Adams, a journey through its first golden era from its incorporation as a city in 1895 to the 1940s. Whether native, newcomer, or tourist, these postcards serve up a taste of North Adams that is both nostalgic and golden. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Local History Collection
Robert Campanile has managed to gather together dozens of rare and previously unpublished historical photos of North Adams, Massachusetts.

Logically arranged into 10 "chapters", the photos are a wonderful collage of the town and its history. The captions that accompany each picture are well done and informative.

Like most of the "Images of America" series, this book will have a limited appeal to mostly local residents or former residents. But if you can count yourself in those groups, I can highly recommend this compendium. ... Read more

Product Description
Listening to the River is a celebration of anonymous places where we can still find nature's beauty. Robert Adams first visited these particular locations as a boy, when the West seemed unchanging. Now in his fifties, he returns to them with the affection of a longtime acquaintance. The book records hushed walks when irrelevancies are forgotten, when sunlight makes the fields, hills, and roads new.

Adams has chosen twelve poems by William Stafford to accompany the pictures. Both photographer and poet observe a practice of quiet in the out-of-doors, and both discover there a promise.

This is an optimistic book, though not a sentimental one: a number of the photographs record views of the suburban West. "Any tree in the path of development appears to have an uncertain future," Adams observes. Listening to the River affirms, however, that trees and other elements of nature are ultimately protected. "Part of what their beauty means," says the photographer, "is that they are safe."

In 1989 Adams spoke at the Philadelphia Museum of Art about his enjoyment of the landscape, citing as an example his experiences at rural crossroads on the plains: "Sometimes there doesn't seem to be anything there at all-- just two roads, four fields, and sky. Small things, however, can become important-- a lark or a mailbox or sunflowers. And if I wait I may see the architecture-- the roads and the fields and the sky. Were you and I to drive the prairie together, and the day turned out to be a good one, we might not say much. We might get out of the truck at a crossroads, stretch, walk a little ways, and then walk back. Maybe the lark would sing. Maybe we would stand for a while, all views to the horizon, all roads interesting. We might find there a balance of form and openness, even of community and freedom. It would be the world as we had hoped, and we would recognize it together."

2-0 out of 5 stars Robert Adams:the Good, the Bad and the Ugly
I first read this book almost 20 years ago but alot of the text sticks in my mind. The reason I've titled my review as it is, is because this book sums up the things that one gets with the Castaways in Time series(the last work of Robert Adams before his death, I believe). The Good is the way he could create compelling characters and show them in believable and dynamic action. He also introduced an intriguing alternate world where the world from Europe, Africa, the Middle-East and to the edges of Mongolia is ruled or under the influence of a gunpowder monopolizing Catholic Church that planted multiple Popes over an earth whose Muslim power centers and influence were made extinct by the Mongol hordes of the 13th century. The Bad:Adams makes these ridiculous jumps in Time and character developement that leaves his plots confused and his readers' heads spinning. In this case, Adams apparently gets bored with the usual "getting to know you" period in storytelling and moves his characters from the point where they're running about finding out what's what in this new world to where they've become powerful allies to the friendly local warlord(King Arthur III of an England under siege by the Church backed rebels and Scottish king trying to depose him) and literally months have gone by. Then romance is truncated as the female lead who had just met the hero in the start of the book was now the doting wife with a bun in the oven looking back on her nightmarish last boyfriend. The Ugly:not surprizingly(for Adams readers)certain characters suddenly transform from at least helpful individuals to scummy, evil and pathetic backstabbers with very little warning signs. In this book, a knowledgeable and level headed ex-OSS veteran turned Professor whose only flaw was his meek behavior around his alcoholic harpy wife, quickly becomes a cowardly, grasping, jealous traitor. All this happens in less than five chapters.I might as well warn readers of what comes next in the series in the Ugly category. Within two books, the loving female lead becomes an insane harpy herself just because she can't take being a noble housewife. An incredibly long detailed background history of a new character's Armenian-American family history dominates one book, made completely pointless when said character disappears and (again no surprise to Adams readers) the author's intense Homophobia surfaces in his Armenian-American backstory. In this case the almost-obligatory Homosexual predator is a woman in 1940's America who is dealt with inthe usual Adams way, captivity and torture. Don't say I didn't warn you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent read for the alternate history fan
Mr Adams writes like he was a seasoned cavalry officer and puts you in the saddle with his character of Bass Foster.A little dated (1978) but still a great read from one of the original progenitors of the alternative or future history genre. His years of soldiering shine through the pages.

4-0 out of 5 stars A stirring, gritty time travel story: three and a half stars
In the aftermath of the storm to end all storms, Bass Foster's house is swept back in time to a war-torn medieval England that never was. Bass and five unexpected guests find themselves embroiled in a contentious holy war ignited by the Church against the rightful throne of 17th century England. Quickly, for survival's sake, the castaways in time must choose sides and adapt themselves to the turbulent socio-political climate of this parallel earth, harnessing their cumulative knowledge of science and technology and putting into use Bass's modest arsenal of modern weaponry- thusly significantly influencing the temporal tide of history.

Before S. M. Stirling, Harry Turtledove, and Eric Flint first dabbled in time travel and alternate histories, Robert Adams' blood-and-guts six-book series Castaways in Time thrilled readers a generation past. This novel, titled Castaways in Time, is the opener to that series and is one of the better, more fully-realized time travel adventure stories I have read. It certainly is the best of the six installments. Robert Adams was a history and military buff and it shows in his detailed minutae of life and war in not so jolly, bloody old England. He narrates his medieval military campaigns with vivid authority and easy familiarity. There's a visceral feel conveyed by Adams which impacts the reader and places him or her right there in the heat of the skirmishes, on that wartorn battlefield.

Bass Foster, our lead character, is a man in his mid-forties who has let the world pass him by. But it's a good thing he knows quite a bit about the art of war because his martial expertise comes in very handy in a savage world where "might makes right." It's not long before his consummate soldiering is recognized and hailed by his 17th century peers. His fellow temporally-challenged travellers also contribute greatly and are accordingly elevated in status, notably Pete Fairley (an innovative jack-of-all-trades), Bud Webster (a huge bear of a man and himself an accomplished soldier) and the initially meek Professor William Collier. In fact, the professor, whose hobby is studying military history, has a knack for strategy and tactics, as well as being an ace at firearms and the sword. Very early on, he becomes a trusted adviser to the king and is granted an earldom - which, it turns out, is a bad thing. His resulting enmity with Bass Foster provides a subplot that further ratchets up the action-packed storyline. Also, keep an eye out for Nugai, a taciturn but deadly local whom I grew to liked.

The pace of this book is certainly frenetic. Lots of things transpire in a very short time. Events are described in brief but all-encompassing passages. There is no shortage of military action. One minor quibble I have is that Robert Adams chooses to minimize scenes of the moderns initially coping with their very odd situation. They get transported back into time; then, next thing you know, two weeks pass and they've already acclimated. But, I guess, the refutation to that is that in times of battle, you adapt or you die. Still, the narrative is a bit disjointed; there are abrupt transitions in continuity in the first third of the book which might ruffle the reader's sensibilities. I got used to it; hope you do too.

During the course of the tale, several questions beg for answers. Why does Bass' house continue to have electric power in the 17th century? Who exactly was that slain enemy soldier with the exquisite armament and a gold class ring from the future? And what's up with the elderly Archbishop Harold of York, who claims he was born in 1968? Hmmm...

If you enjoy this one, then, by all means, check out the rest of the series (though they aren't as good as this one):

#2 The Seven Magical Jewels of Ireland (1984)
#3 Of Quests and Kings (1986)
#4 Of Chiefs and Champions (1987)
#5 Of Myths and Monsters (1988)
#6 Of Beginnings and Endings (1989)

Also recommended are his Horseclan and Stairway to Heaven series. They're good stuff.

1-0 out of 5 stars Confused and poorly edited
I hope that Robert Adams's narrative voice got clearer and more organized with his later books. This one is full of illogical jumps, cuts, and lacks of transition.I keep getting confused while reading, because he suddenly changes place or time without the slightest attempt to let the reader know what's happening.

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB STORY- GREAT SUBPLOTS
The what-ifs presented by the author are great. The books have multilple plots and charactors that always keep you interested.I was led to this series by Adams Horseclans series and have proceded to try to acquire allthe books in both. I have most of them but would like to obtain a checklist for both series. If anyone has one, please let me know. ... Read more

Product Description
In Notes For Friends, world-renowned photographer Robert Adams explores the possibility of discovering beauty in the compromised landscape of the new American West. Hisphotographs, rendering the landscape in rich black-and-white images, clearly demonstrate that beauty can be found, suggesting a new kind of exploration that could yield a transforming discovery--the basis for a love of home. Pictures in the book reacquaint us with places that we may have lost to habit or prejudice. Robert Adams encourages us to walk minor roads that at first appear inconsequential, but that in fact lead to wonder. Light rains its miracle on fields next to suburban developments, across the slopes of nameless foothills, and onto trees next to expressways.

For his work Adams was given fellowships by the Guggenheim and MacArthur Foundations, and was awarded the Spectrum International Prize for Photography. Charles Hagen, writing in The New York Times, has observed that "Mr. Adams has over the last two decades helped transform landscape photography in the United States." He has made a name for himself photographing that which was being lost in the name of progress, and in Notes for Friends Robert Adams looks back at the landscape of his beloved Colorado and tries to find what is left to be gained.

Robert Adams is a native of Longmont, Colorado, and one of this country's premier photographers. He is the author of Architecture and Art in Early Hispanic Colorado (UPC), Listening to the River: Seasons in the American West, To Make It Home: Photographs of the American West, Denver: A Photographic Survey of the Metropolitan Area, White Churches of the Plains, and many others. He currently resides in Oregon. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
Given the raving reviews I couldn't wait to get my hands on this bookafter waiting for it for over a month! It took me less than 5 minutes to leaf through it - what a disappointment.Expecting outstanding photographs, they are mediocre, bland, uninteresting subjects. What are the subjects?Hoping to find breakthroughs in lighting, subject treatment or composition, I wonder why certain areas are overexposed and bothersome to look at in the photographs.Nothing stands out as innovative.I'm amazed people praise him as being so much better than Ansel Adams. It is undeniable that Ansel Adams' work is more esthetic, dramatic, fascinating and of a quality far beyond this.I'm sending it back.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it but yes I'm biased
Just this day received my newest purchase, by Robert Adams, wonderful dreamy and poetic, yet gritty and real.

Someone paid me the best compliment ever recently when they compared my own art to Mr Adams'

This book will take a proud spot beside my bed for the next few weeks it will be a joy to fall asleep with it in my hands dreaming of the impending spring and summer light that is soon to reach us here in the southern hemisphere.

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was almost exclusively images, I was expecting another collection of essays similar to his recent book "Why People Photograph"

Crikey I'm not complaining

5-0 out of 5 stars Adams vs Adams
I couldn't agree more with the previous review. If I see another (Ansel) Adams calendar on a wine-bar wall, I think I may just throw up. That stuff just feels like chocolate box kitsch to me now, whereas (Robert) Adams is at least trying to show us exactly what he actually sees, rather than a stage managed image of 'natural' perfection, and so to me at least, he feels more genuine and far less smug than his more famous namesake. But hey, I love this book, and this photgrapher, so I'm probably a tad biased.

4-0 out of 5 stars Robert Adams' Landscape Photography
Robert Adams' latest book of landscape photographs - "Notes for Friends" -continues to challenge our views of what a landscape photograph can and should be.Beware though, not only are Robert Adams andAnsel Adams not related, neither are their photographs.I believe RobertAdams is responding to a reality that was only beginning to be recognizedwhenAnsel Adams was producing his greatest works during the 30's and40's. As a result, Robert Adams' pictures are not the glorious largeformat views of wilderness once synonomous with our concept of 'nature'.

Most of these pictures were taken at the boundry of commercial farmlandand encroaching urban sprawl. If you think about it for a while, what else is there?Does it really make sense for any photographer to plant histripod in the same spot as the previous dozen have done in order to photograph the same 0.1% of our land reasonably preserved as wilderness?Isn't the seemingly endless succession of photographs of pristinebeaches, glowing aspens and towering clouds over unspoiled mountains a deception ifnot an outright lie?Does anyone in 21st century America still think thisis 'nature'?

But, what if a perceptive photographer who truly cares aboutall this were to just go out a few miles from home and walk about with a35mmcamera any of us could afford to own? What if his goal were to findwhatever beauty may still exist and, perhaps, some reason to be hopeful forthe future? What would result?I believe the result would be photographsjust like the ones Robert Adams has given us in "Notes forFriends".For those who can cope with what we have done to our natualheritage, it's a wonderful book of pictures. For others seeking refuge inthe past, it will invariably disappoint. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed
When I spotted the title of this book sitting on a shelf in a discount store, I was immediately drawn in.This is "just what I need."You see, I'm an "amateur gourmet."In my heart, I have visions of cooking 5 course meals for my family. But in reality, I burn things and set off the smoke detector regularly. So, Adam's book brought nurturing to my heart as I realized that someone else felt like me...someone who understand the feeling of failure and unnerving humility in the kitchen faced with common foods and common utensils.I recommend this book for anyone getting started in the kitchen and feeling intimidated by mistakes and even burned foods! It gave me hope!

5-0 out of 5 stars Feel good book of the year!
This book was perfect for someone like me, someone who likes to cook yet gets easily intimidated by all the experts. This book made me feel right at home and was quite a charm to read!I felt like I was reading an extremely personal cookbook, and that I got to peek into the life of a chef who shares the same passion for food that I do. I recommend this for anyone who loves not just food, but all that goes into preparing it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very funny book

2-0 out of 5 stars OK
I found this book only OK.I enjoyed some of Adam's antics and stories, but found a few a little hard to believe and relate to (who would be afraid to dine out in a fine dining establishment today?).There were some humorous anecdotes (like his Mom being sceptical about him cooking her a Mother's Day dinner), that were an insight into a different culture/world for me.I've really enjoyed Adam's blog, and his restaurant tips - so I found the book a little too simplistic and a little disappointing. ... Product Description
As his loving but crisply unsentimental images make evident, Peter Turnley is a clear-eyed descendant of such master French photographers as Brassai, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau, and Edouard Boubat; the latter two, in fact, have written brief tributes to him that serve as forewords to this book. That Turnley's work has been inspired by these earlier influences comes as no suprise, for as a young photographer he worked as Doisneau's assistant, and he subsequently became a close friend of Boubat, meeting him "at least once a week for an afternoon glass of rouge and warm conversation." Yet Turnley's work is uniquely his own, rooted in his 25-year affair of the heart with the most beautiful city in the world. A longtime resident of the city, he invites us to share an intimate Paris that outsiders rarely see, giving us seductive glimpses of Paris life as lived on the street, in the Metro, and at countless neighborhood cafes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A View of Paris
What a book, it has a special place in my collection of photographic book. After meeting Peter Turnley and spending ten days working under his guidance I have to agree with the comments of Robert Doisneau, and Edouard Boubat, Peter is a very special person. This book shows you the face and people of Paris.Street scenes that can only be caught by spending weeks, months and years walking the streets of Paris. And that special ingredient, an eye for the photo. As John Morris, the great photo editor of Life, the New York Times and others says "get the picture" and Peter has done it over and over.I recommend this book to any one who loves street photography or photography in general and especially those lovers of Paris.

5-0 out of 5 stars Parisians: Photographs by Peter Turnley
It is a beautiful collection of images of the life in Paris. Seeing the pictures make you yearn to go there to take your own pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheaper than a Plane ticket
After being in Paris for an entire summer, I've returned to the US with great heartache.Paris had a profound effect on me, so when I arrived in the states, I feverishly tried to gather all I could to remind me of Paris. On a whim I bought "Parisians."From the moment I opened it up, I was suddenly back in my beloved city. The photographs capture Paris in the way that takes me back everytime.Turnley's skill at capturing the essence of Parisians is striking, uncanny and charming. If you've been, you miss it, or want to know what Paris is "really" like, just open the cover of "Parisians."On the days I want nothing more than to transport back to Paris, all I have to do is open this book and I'm there.

5-0 out of 5 stars A touching collection of black and white images
Peter Turnley has captured the spirit of Paris and the souls of Parisians and presented it in one beautifully produced volume for the world to see at an affordable price. The images are stunning and the order of the images contributes to the quality of the book.I expect to return to these images often for years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beauty of Paris
For those of you who have been to Paris, Peter Turnley's work will strike a deep sense of longing to return. His ability to capture some many facets of life throughout his book is delightful.I really enjoyed the mix of people, places, and situations he photographed such as a French woman in a barista or fans at a soccer game. His use of black and white photography added a sense of timelessness to the work.In summary, I think the book is an amazing piece of work that highlights the diversity and beauty of Paris. ... Summer Nights is a sequence of nightscapes photographed along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Adams's attention to the subtleties of extreme light and dark emphasizes his appeal to look again at places often overlooked. "What attracted me to the subjects at a new hour," he observes, "was the discovery of a neglected peace."Hardcover, 8.5 x 9.25 in./48 pgs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book
There will always be visually illiterate people who blame Robert Adams when they don't get his work. Don't cheat yourself by listening to these knee-jerk voices. Adams' images deserve better. They are subtle, quiet, personal, intricate, and interrelated. They do not reveal all their secrets quickly; they may not reveal them at all if you expect to absorb everything in the flash of a first glance, or if you expect the pictures to tell you outright what they mean.

His pictures are for slow, quiet viewing, for approaching with curiosity and opennenss. Of all of his bodies of work (and there are many), Summer Nights strikes me as the most accessible. Some of his other work may seem cold and intellectual at first glance (it isn't, but still might seem that way, especially if you're used to more romanic, dramatic pictures of the landscape). But summer nights is immediately inviting. Among other things, it's about simple pleasures of simple experiences, in places close to home. There's something here for anyone willing to take the time to sit still and really look.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
When I received this book I was completely disappointed. The images were of poor quality and lacked artistic ability.I really thought it would have been a good book to look at.Out of all the images in the book only 2 were decent. The rest were amateur at best.I think the publisher needs to ask him/her self why.

I might of well just thrown a $20 into the trash.

5-0 out of 5 stars Between dreanming and Waking
Robert Adams' 'Summer Nights' has for me, been a seminal work in my development as an artist.

The images in this book are evocative and powerful, yet plain and quiet.

The book format and the sequencing of the images lend well to Mr Adams' style and subject matter.

The quiet poetry of his night and evening journeys are a great begining and understanding into Mr Adams' work and ideas.

This is one book that should have been republished many years ago! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for ingineering students ...
I really like this book. It is crystal clear and practical. I am studying electrical ingineering and I find this book to be my number one reference and math study book. If you need to go deep into math and like to study long proofs, then you can probably get something 10 times as big to study. To all of us who thinks that it is fine that someone can do the proofs, but don't have time to read and learn long proofs this book is the thing. At the technical university where I am studying it is used as a mathbook, and my peers find it very clear too (exept some students to whom nothing is clear), and as you probably can see on my grammer english is not our native language !

2-0 out of 5 stars A great reference, definitely not instructional
Having worked through two thirds of the book I have found it extremely frustrating. The main problem is the lack of defined examples, poor proofs and discussion of material that is superfluous to the subject matter. The layout is also extremely poor which was evidenced by the large number of revisions between edition 3 and 4.To understand just how poor the proofs and descriptions are have a comparison to Thomas/Finney or Anton, the number of pages devoted to each section is usually a third greater and more detailed. The greatest frustration is the poor referencing of examples and proofs to past proofs or examples (re: Howard Anton).

In conclusion its a great reference because it covers the many areas of calculus but as an educational text it is most unhelpful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Really Bad...
Well this textbook, has to be the most confusing thing in the world. Usually textbooks start off with the easiest problems first but not Mr. Adams.

He decided to not only put the hardest question first but also to tie in concepts that were used like 3 chapters ago. And for rotations he justs throws you some equations and doesn't even bother to tell you how they work, or what does it even mean.

The only thing which is good about this book, is if you get the solution manual

5-0 out of 5 stars A excellent text
I am surprised at the poor reviews of this text.Though some complain that there is a "lack of explanation" in proofs and in exercises in the study guide, I prefer Adams's approach as it forces the reader to think while reading.Working through a proof or example should not be done in order to memorize one line of thought but rather to *learn* the concepts and as an exercise in itself.I do not think that Adams is overly demanding--he pushes the reader, but not too hard. The exercises are well thought out and often challenging, and the text is extremely helpful.I do admit that some problems and examples took me quite some time to figure out, but the time invested was well worth it.I would suggest that you take a look at the book and study guide for yourself and not to take the reviews of it too seriously (borrow it from your university library). This text is especially suitable for an honours class in first year calculus. It is perhaps in between something like Edwards and Penney and Spivak: not as easy as the former, but not as demanding as the latter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great reference text
I was very surprised to see the poor score of this book.I think it is great. It is very well set out and cleverly leads the reader by the hand to ideas and theories of calculus. The chapters read well and diagrams illustrate the ideas effectively.I have used it throughout my maths degree and is also helpful for other maths topics such as linear programming. All my class mates agree that it is a classic text! ... Product Description
Throughout his philosophical career at Michigan, UCLA, Yale, and Oxford, Robert Merrihew Adams's wide-ranging contributions have deeply shaped the structure of debates in metaphysics, philosophy of religion, history of philosophy, and ethics. Metaphysics and the Good: Themes from the Philosophy of Robert Merrihew Adams provides, for the first time, a collection of original essays by leading philosophers dedicated to exploring many of the facets of Adams's thought, a philosophical outlook that combines Christian theism, neo-Platonism, moral realism, metaphysical idealism, and a commitment to both historical sensitivity and rigorous analytic engagement. Tied together by their aim of exploring, expanding, and experimenting with Adams's views, these eleven essays are coupled with an intellectual autobiography by Adams himself that was commissioned especially for this volume. As the introduction to the volume explains, the purpose of Metaphysics and the Good is to explore Adams's work in the very manner that he prescribes for understanding the ideas of others. By experimenting with Adams's conclusions, "pulling a string here to see what moves over there, so to speak," as Adams puts it, our authors throw into greater relief what makes Adams such an original and stimulating philosopher. In doing so, these essays contribute not only to the exploration of Adams's continuing interests, but they also advance original and important philosophical insights of their own. ... Read more

Product Description
Since the 1960's, Robert Adams has used his camera lensto document the changing landscape of the United States. Covering theturbulent period from 1978 to 1983, Robert Adams' photographs of theLos Angeles basin document a disintegration that is at once social andecological. At the same time, however, they reveal a persistentverdancy and vitality in the landscape that contains a glimmer ofhope. This hope that Adams shares with the viewer is much like thehope held out at the end of a classical tragedy--insistent, yetdifficult to account for. In "California" we find a bird in adefoliated orchard, a suddenly clear day on a quiet road, theastonishing silhouette of a eucalyptus in smog--and we are leftwondering how to explain these seemingly unreal moments. The imageshere constitute yet another chapter in the oeuvre of one of the mostimportant landscape photographers of our time, building on andcommunicating with Adams' continuing contribution to the nationaldialogue about America's health and future--as well as his monumentalcontribution to contemporary photography. Printed in stunningtritones, this new monograph features a revelatory introduction byformer United States Poet Laureate Robert Hass.

Product Description

Pharmacology: Connections to Nursing Practice recognizes that pharmacology is not an academic discipline to be learned for its own sake, but a critical tool to prevent disease and promote healing of illness. This connection to patients, their assessment, diagnoses, and interventions, supports basic nursing practice. Like other core nursing subjects, the focus of pharmacology must be to teach and promote wellness for patients. Pharmacology: Connections to Nursing Practice identifies key pharmacologic concepts and mechanisms and clearly connects them to current nursing theory and practice for providing optimal patient care.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I love this book. This is my guilty pleasure in my nursing program. This is one of the few textbooks I do the required reading from. The book is set up for student success and understanding. The headings for the paragraphs give you the punch line, then you read the paragraph (so you get the main point straight up and then expound upon the knowledge). The punchlines are also great for skimming, if that is your thing. It explains the biology and mechanisms of action for classes of drugs. Then it gives you prototype drugs and their mechanism of action, uses, side effects, and contraindications (all the while, applying it to what you just read).
