Product Description
Widely recognized as the best treatment of the technical issues concerning forest health and forest protection available, the original edition of this comprehensive text was the first to treat fire, wind, insects, and diseases as well as their interactions holistically. The latest edition extends the thrust of the successful first edition, bringing updated, detailed, and reliable coverage by the same team of authors with decades of experience and expertise in the fields of forest pathology, fire ecology, and forest entomology. Their effective, integrative approach continues to focus on the fundamental issues related to forest protection, including ecology, forest health, and ecosystem management. Useful examples from the United States, Canada, and other countries illustrate principles and problems essential to understanding these issues.

Now with expanded material on climate change effects and forest health monitoring, no other single resource better prepares students and natural resource professionals for the protection and management of sustained forest health.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reading!!
This book is very useful if you need to know how a forest works, and how to keep it sustainable through human and non-human activity. Easily understandable, this book makes for light reading in spare time. A+ book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice primer
This is a softcover reissue of a hardcover text put out previously by McGraw Hill. The content is unchanged, but students will be happy that it's about half the price of the original. It appears tightly bound, durable. The paper is thicker and coarser and so the photos have lost some detail, mostly more contrast and darker. Otherwise I'm very pleased with it. I've been using the previous edition for the past four years as the text for my Forest Protection class at Humboldt State University and I find it's a great overview of wildland fire, forest entomology, and forest pathology. The section on animal damage is deficient, extremely small, and requires supplemental material. Otherwise it's a great desktop reference, good coverage of the material by knowledgable authors, and you cannot beat the value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
Forest Health and Protection is an excellent book which include an actualvision the three aspectsvery important in forest ecosystems. It is a contribution in the forest protection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the magic and complexity of childhood
I stumbled across this book several years ago and its images have affected my art work (painting) ever since. This remarkable photographer captured the lives of families living in New York during the 1940's, as they transfered their lives out onto the streets. These streets and sidewalksbecame their living rooms and realms of intimate interaction. Children arefrozen in games reflecting their magic and carefree spirit, at timesforshadowing more conflictive and painful realities. This book is atreasure which reflects back to us the profound beauty of human existence. ... Read more
