5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book
We read a lot of Berenstain Bears in our house. This book is a favorite with our children and the parents. It teaches a nice lesson about following others---it's okay to have a leader but you have to make sure they are a good leader and evaluate the morality of what they are asking you to do. It's not the easiest lesson to teach, so this book is a useful tool for getting this across.

5-0 out of 5 stars learning books
This is a really good book.Everyone of the Berenstain Bear books has a wonderful lesson in it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Berenstain Bears books are great!
My four year old son has started collecting these books, and it's been a real treasure to read them to him because they bring back memories from my own childhood. He loves the stories just as much as I do. We especially love reading the little poems on the first page of each book! Each book teaches a different lesson. I love using them as examples of what not to do and also as positive reinforcement for my children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!
This is such a great book to teach kids not to just "follow the leader" and to think for yourself.Brother Bear goes to get his sister's jump rope back from the school bully and they dare him to do some bad things. When Brother is dared to steal a watermelon from a friend's patch, he resists at first but then they "dee double dare" him and well, off he goes.Brother finds out that he's been found out by his friend, Farmer Ben, and Ben then tells Brother of the dangers of following someone instead of thinking for yourself. It's really interesting how they did this - Farmer Ben tells Brother that sheep will follow a leader anywhere, even off a cliff. You just have to learn not to be like sheep and think for yourself. So when Too-Tall Grizzly tries once again to get Brother to do something bad, Brother calls Too-Tall and his gang, "Sheep."It's a great lesson, one that is easily remembered and very well done.If you're interested, this one is also done on a dvd and it's great too!We love it in our house.Highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dares, Double-Dares, Dee-Double-Dares
This is a good book about peer pressure. My 5 year-old son enjoyed the story. Some of the life lessons we talked about while reading this story are 1) thinking for yourself, 2) friends don't call friends names, and 3) never take something that does not belong to you.

I especially liked how Farmer Ben taught Brother Bear to not allow being called names (i.e. chicken) to cause him to be misled.Farmer Ben also used a story about sheep to teach a good lesson about the importance of thinking for yourself.

Brother Bear uses the lessons learned from Farmer Ben while handling his next encounter with the Too-Tall Gang (yet another double dare). This time he is not misled because he thinks for himself, sticks with what he knows is right, and says no. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a great tool!
Missing Honey is not a good book to teach young children about the importance of being honest, and trust worthy. I did have high hopes for this one; however, it was a bit of a letdown.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great rhyming fun
The Berenstain bear books are my three year old daughter's favorite books. We started with Visit the Dentist and Visit the Doctor, bought at used book sale from local library, and have slowly added to her collection. In the beginning I didn't realize some of the books are rhyming books geared towards a younger audience, and some are longer stories told with a lesson on manners, getting along, not being afraid of the dark, etc.We probably had twenty of the longer books before I discovered there were these simple little rhyming books.A few of them remind us of her Dr. Suess books. This Missing Honey book is a simple little book full of easy rhyme, and is funny. It is similar to the Missing Dinosaur bone (another favorite of my daughter's). We read it for the first time last night at bedtime (where we always read four Bear books). My daughter had me read it twice, she loved it so much.I highly recommend this one to the younger Berenstain bear fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for new readers!
This book is really cute. But it also is a new readers book with some favorite childhood characters. It rhymes which makes it so much easier for young readers to connect with and makes reading much easier. It's pretty cute - Papa Bear's honey is missing and after a myriad of mishaps, they discover he's the culprit! All rhyming throughout the entire book but it's quite entertaining.Very good book to get if you have a young reader at home.Highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars Annoying but Good
The rhyming is annoying. The message is good. Do not jump to conclusions and blame.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for all ages
This story starts when papas bears blackberry honey is not in his honey jar.Papa thinks that someone took it! The bears got their sniffer hound and decided to crack the case. They go out to find some clues and get papa bears blackberry honey back. I am not going to tell you how the story ends. You should read it yourselves and find out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not A SItter!
The cubs are scared of the sitter. She is pry this mean witch or something. Then she has lots of fun things to do and soon they relax and like her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Berenstein's Sitter
The book, The Berenstein Bears and the sitter, is wonderful. In the book, the cubs are very scared because a babysitter is coming to stay with them. However, once she gets there, the cubs find out that she is actually very nice and fun. They end up having a great time with her. I thought this book was very colorful and interesting. I love all of the Berenstein Bears books. Many times children are afraid of babysitters, but this book shows them there is no need to be. I would recommend this book to all children.

5-0 out of 5 stars From English to Spanish
I believe that reading a non-textbook is one the best ways to learn a language. I read this book in English as a kid. By reading it over and over again in my own language; it became too easy and dull. Now, as an adult, trying to learn Spanish throughly, I decided to by random kids books as back ground work in the language. I'm glad I bought myself, "TOO MUCH BIRTHDAY!" The old familiar is working well for me. I wish they had more than just three or four Berenstain Bear Books. Happy Reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars I normally hate the Berenstain Bears
But this book is really fun, especially for the car obsessed.Four different colors of bears race around a crazy race track, going "over" and "under", "around" and "behind" and playing dirty tricks on each other in rhyme. Not a cloying booklike many others in the series.A favorite for ages 3 to 4.

5-0 out of 5 stars super cute and fun
My 23 month old is really into cars.He wants to read this book over and over and over.It is really cute and teaches 5 colors and five car "sounds", along with up, down, around, and through.I think it's hilarious when the "big mean green car" plays a dirty trick and my son says "OH NO!".It also teaches the lesson of persitence and patience. Very fun book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute book, great for new readers
This is such a cute book, both for toddlers but also for new readers. It rhymes thoughout the book and basically, is the story of the tortoise and the hare but with racecars. It's really, really cute, rhymes well, and makes learning to read quite the fun time.Highly recommend!

4-0 out of 5 stars You can stock your library with Berenstain Bear books
Sister Bear is nervous about school when Brother mentions that he wishes summer vacation would just be over already. (That is *so* unrealistic.)

But her mother takes her to meet her new kindergarten teacher, and that goes all right. Then we get a quick review of Sister's first day of school, including the various things a child might do in kindergarten, and finally we see that she's excited about school.

This book would do well to calm a nervous child going off to school for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVED THIS BOOK AS A KID AND NOW MY SON DOES TOO!
My son recently started preschool and I remembered I loved this book as a child. I particularly remember how vibrant the pictures were and how my imagination ran wild with them. It was a great way to prepare him for his first day of school and one we continue to read over and over and over! A definate classic!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
Book shows that Sister is nervous about starting kindergarten. She meets the teacher Mrs. Honey before school starts. First she is nervous but soon she starts to relax and enjoy herself and have fun. I love the part where she holds another kindergartener's hand on the bus. So often little kids only think of themselves and not others.

I ordered this book for a lessonI was teaching and I waited 2 weeks for the book to come in.When it finally arrived it was the wrong book!I received it 2 days before I was supposed to teach the lesson. I ended up getting a brand new copy from Barnes and Noble for less then it cost me to get this one.I would not use this buyer

2-0 out of 5 stars all too easy
I felt that this bear family followed a sensible new eating plan, yet made it seem altogether too easy. What about the emotions that are such a deep part of eating (often unhealthy types of) food? Even a preschooler can learn to recognize how he or she is feeling (sad, bored, lonely) when tempted to eat junk food. And the book could have suggested that rather than substituting types of TV snacks, the kids might try watching less TV and playing outdoors. Just once I would like to see a reversal (or equalization) of the always-practical-and-in-control Mom and the more permissive and goofy Dad. I mean, women struggle even more with junk food, especially if their kids' stash is choking the kitchen cabinets! I thought it was acceptable that Mama Bear first became concerned because of the kids' chunkier appearance. I mean, at their age that would probably be the only clue that they're ingesting too much fat and sugar. But I agree with others about the all-or-nothing solution, and thought the little bears adapted a little too well. Few real-life kids are gonna relish carrot sticks when they know there are chips around!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book!
My dad used to read this book to me so I bought it to read to my daughter. It teaches a good lesson about candy consumption. I love these books!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great learning tool!
The Bearenstain Bears books are excellent teaching tools. This book says exactly what I wanted to say to my 4 year old grandaughter. It is a way to explain to a child why they are becoming overweight, in a way they can understand, in a way that is easy to hear.
