Product Description

A farmer's simple drive to the country fair turns into a chaotic journey as more and more of his animals want to climb aboard. The obliging farmer lets each group of animals join him -- first a single chicken, followed by two sheep, three pigs and four cows -- until his little truck gets stuck at the bottom of a steep hill.

Luckily his passengers are as helpful as he is and everyone gets out to push. The trip ends happily with a spectacular crash into the pie contest tent where everyone eats their fill.

Children love to chant the catchy patterned rhymes ("Farmer, farmer, Going to the fair. Chicken wants a ride. There's room to spare.") and return to the book again and again. John Bianchi's wonky cartoon illustrations keep interest high and provide lots of laughs while effectively developing the theme of sharing.

My daughter loves all these books. I dont see why but she loves them, they're easy and repetitious. I thought they were too easy but she can sit there and read them over and over again. As long as she's happy :)

5-0 out of 5 stars An introduction into the world of books
We started with our now-four year old, who insisted we read this book every night, sometimes multiple times during the day. Now, our toddler is in the same boat. She wakes up in the morning asking for "farmer farmer."I have read this book so much, I know every word and every illustration on the page.It is simple and adorable, and a perfect start to every toddler's literary world.

4-0 out of 5 stars The More the Merrier
My 5 year old daughter absolutely loved this book about a farmer on his way to the fair who picks up animals along the way also headed to the fair. She was amused to see the cow sitting in the truck, chuckled at the sheep, but roared at the reaction of the farmer when the pigs joined the merry group. This story truly is a road to fun. ... Product Description

Just as she is getting ready for bed, a farmer notices that ten of her barnyard animals are preparing for an all-night hoedown. Still wearing her nightgown, she sneaks out to watch them as they dance through the night. As the animals lay down one by one, she counts them off in standard countdown fashion. "Ten farm animals dancing in a line, horse got dizzy, then there were nine."

Young readers love the rhythm and rhyme in this book, predicting each number as they turn the page to see what animal drops out from the party. John Bianchi's goofy animal characters are as endearing as ever and he manages to work in his usual visual subplots (including a pair of courting chickens who almost stay awake until sunrise).

Product Description

The students at Pokeweed Public School love to read and each year teacher/librarian Ms. Mudwortz devotes a week to exploring how books are written and published. The students all create their own picture books and then celebrate Book Week by inviting their favorite author for a visit.

Things don't work out quite as planned though when Principal Slugmeyer fails to recognize the guest of honor -- adventure writer Reginald Thornbottom -- and escorts the wrong visitor through the school. As the grand finale presentation is about to fall into chaos, Ms. Mudwortz saves the day by finding the missing author.

Teachers, librarians and kids alike will enjoy this entertaining explanation of how books are created -- brought to life with Bianchi's usual assortment of oddball animal characters and a lot of laughs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for children just beginning to read
My daughter's Kindergarten class through out the year brought home little booklets that the children cut out and then stapled. The idea behind these little booklets is the same as this book! Each sentence is basically the same and repeats through out the book except for the last page or 2.

Children 1st learn to memorize the book when using their pointer finger to point to each word. Then as time goes by they do actually will learn the words. The illustrations also lend to the reading because they give the children tips on what the hard word might be... another reading tip their teacher should be teaching them to look for. The illustrations are also very cute!

The subject of the book is a zoo keeper who is cooking her animals dinner... tonight must be "Prince" Spaghetti night. Since the other food on the animal's Zoo menu is fruit, bugs, leaves, grass, French fries, hot dog and pizza .... all sound yummy... well 5 of the choices! Each animal comes into the kitchen saying they are hungry and returning to the tablewith plates piled with lots of spaghetti. When the zoo keeper arrives at the table with her plate all the animals aren't eating! They waited for her to join them.

I spoke to my daughter's teacher because my daughter seemed tojust be memorizing the book, and was told this normal. I was told yes, this is the 1st part to learning to read - memorization and then if she's using her pointer finger at each word when reading will learn to know these words. So, no fears... this is perfectly normal and your child is on their way to becoming readers!

The Bungalo Boys first stormed onto the children's book scene in 1986 in their epic cowboy adventure, The Last of the Tree Ranchers. Since their debut as tree-riding ranchers, the Bungalo Boys have appeared in four books that have sold more than 200,000 copies.

Three Stories High is in honor of their success, an omnibus reader that includes the first three adventures in one volume:

  • The Last of the Tree Ranchers: the Boys' quiet ranch routine is disrupted when a band of thieving beavers starts to steal their trees. When the Boys give chase, they wreak havoc on every tradition of the Old West.
  • Bushmen Brouhaha: heading onto the plains of Africa's Serengeti on safari, the Boys capture an elephant tree and then try to rescue a group of bushmen who are being harassed by hungry baboons.
  • The Champions of Hockey: as the descendants of a long line of hockey heroes, the Boys face off against the awesome combined power of the hulking Bruins and the speedy Penguins in a competition for the coveted Bungalo Birdbath trophy.

Product Description

Poor Red Bug doesn't know anything about the cold wind and snow winter. His friends ask him, "Red Bug, Red Bug, Where will you go? Winter is coming, With cold wind and snow." But the animals who are warning him of the changing season are not keen to let him burrow into their warm winter coats.

Each potential hibernation site (feathers, fur, wool and hair) belongs to a reluctant host who sends the bug away again. Finally, Red Bug finds a perfect spot that bothers no one and the book ends happily with him snoring away in front of a fireplace. (Yes, you guessed it, as snug as a bug in a rug.)

The book's rhyming pattern is a wonderful reading device for developing readers and the bug's search provides a playful look at the way various animal's adapt to the cold. Youngsters love to chant the text with or without the book in hand.
