2-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars: Boba Fett #2: Crossfire
Star Wars: Boba Fett #2: Crossfire, by Terry Bisson

"Crossfire" is the second book in a six book series on the life of young Boba Fett. Boba is now the guest, or prisoner, depending on how you look at it, of Count Dooku. When the starting war comes to Raxus Prime, Boba manages to escape the junkyard planet by pretending to be an orphan.

While en route to a Bespin orphanage, Boba makes the first friend of his life. But when he's torn between his new friend and his father's teachings - which will he choose?

"Crossfire" was a bit blah to me, and even though it's a short book, it felt like it dragged on for too long. I think it could have been tightened up a little.

2/5.

5-0 out of 5 stars 9 year old son loves this book
Per my son this is a great book, he just got into Star Wars and he loved this series of books.

1-0 out of 5 stars A discrace to Boba Fett
I am thirten and a half years old and I am a true star wars fan as also a Boba Fett fan I have read many, many star wars books and played many of their video games I have grown to like the Boba Fett seris such as:
Book 1 The fight to survive
Book 3 Maze of deception
Book 5 A new threat
Book 4 Hunted
But this book is (like I said in the title) a discrace I love star wars but this book is a exeption. The story line was okay and showing how Boba Fett learns from his mistakes and makes a friend but there is no fighting!
Sure there is a little in the begining of the book but none later on and I have bought three times as cheep books for my size for like $1.50 this is way more expencive. So bottom line don't read this book!

p.s: May the force be with you all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Boba Fett #1,2,3,4,5, and 6

By John

If you have seen Star Wars movies you are going to like this
Series. Boba Fett is a funny trickster who is the son of Jango Fett who is the richest and most feared Bounty Hunter who ever lived.
Follow Boba and his adventure to many planets where he learns how to be a Bounty Hunter.

I especially like this series because of the things he does to become a Bounty Hunter. Boba is very sarcastic he does not know what to do and he makes funny mistakes.

Boba seeks help from his father's friends while being chased by his worst enemies. One time Boba attacked a General named Grievous and he gets thrown into a garbage chute!

If you like Fictional or Adventure books this is the right series for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the greatest Boba Fett books.
One thing that totally flawed this book: that it hardly had fighting combat. Anyway, what do you expect? Boba Fett is not a Jedi and is a wanna-be Bounty Hunter (10 yrs of age). This book describes Boba's adventures after the death of his father, and, after Episode 2: Attack of the Clones, especially how he is surviving. Crossfire does contribute to the story evolving in the Prequel Era and ties in well with the movies, other books and the Dark horse comics. For those people who read Boba Fett, you should really pick up the Jedi Quest series, it is much better than these Boba Fett books. ... Read more

Product Description

In the late twentieth century, Admiral Julian 3rd can get no rest, for he knows his future. He will be reborn as his grandson in the next century to journey through space and make an ominous discovery inside the moon; he will live again in the dark years of the twenty-second century as Julian 9th, who refuses to bow down to the victorious Moon Men; and as Julian 20th, the fierce Red Hawk, he will lead humanity's final battle against the alien invaders in the twenty-fifth century. The Moon Maid is Edgar Rice Burroughs's stunning epic of a world conquered by alien invaders from the moon and of the hero Julian, who champions the earth's struggle for freedom, peace, and dignity.

The most complete version of The Moon Maid saga ever made available, this edition contains the story as published serially, along with numerous passages, sentences, and words excised from the magazine version or added later by the author. This edition also features an introduction by Terry Bisson, new illustrations by Thomas Floyd, the classic frontispiece by J. Allen St. John, essays by scholar Richard J. Golsan and writer Phillip R. Burger, a glossary by Scott Tracy Griffin, and a compendium of alterations to the text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hidden life inside the moon
The Moon Maid by Edgar Rice Burroughs is the first book in a series about a world that is inside the moon. The hollow moon in the story has atmosphere and light, plant and animal life. A mighty civilization has crumbled over time, when men from earth discover it by accident. Highlights of the story include a beautiful princess, a hidden city, secret tunnels, and war with centaur like beasts who speak, yet eat men and each other. A nice Burroughs adventure, this is the way they used to make them. This edition has great Roy Krenkel cover art, in the first Ace paperback edition 1962, F-157.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rocket to the Moon.
This book prints all three books in Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Moon Trilogy".Each of the books tells the story of a different generation of the Julian family.

Part one is the story of Julian 5th, who sets out for Mars, but is forced to land in the Moon when one of his crew sabotages the ship.He has adventures and falls in love with the Moon Maid.

Part two is the story of Julian 9th, who lives on the Earth after it has been conquered by Moon Men.He starts a revolution to try to overthrow the Moon Men.

Part three is the story of Julian 20th, who leads the final battle against the Moon Men.

This is an entertaining book, if you are a fan of old fashioned adventure fiction.

4-0 out of 5 stars one of ERB's darkest tales
The Moon Maid, whether split into the three constituent parts or presented, as here, complete and unabridged, is definitely ERB's most overtly political work. Fearful of pacifism after World War I and nascent communist aggression, ERB (also mindful of communist refusal to pay him due royalties) wrote a story called Under the Red Flag that failed to sell. Not wanting the story to go to waste, he then rewrote it as The Moon Men, the second part of this book, and bookended it with two other tales of the struggle between the men of Earth and the invaders from the Moon. To give continuity to his story, ERB provides for the reincarnation of the primary hero, Julian, who appears in the framing portion as Julian 3rd and then in the stories themselves as Julian 5th, Julian 9th, and Julian 20th--the Red Hawk of the last story. (No last name is given the Julians, though in Under the Red Flag, the surname is James.) Just as brilliant as ERB's presentation of the desolation of two worlds by the (obviously) communist Kalkar menace is the havoc wreaked on the twin families of Julian and his greatest rival, Orthis (later named Or-tis). In this instance though, while our sympathies lie with Julian, in a way, he brings this on the world himself by his insouciant oneupping of his adversary. In simply brilliant fashion, ERB shows both families and two worlds ground to near oblivion by the twin menaces of unbridled jealousy and unchecked Marxist domination. Finally, after many travails, the end of the feud comes about, but it is unclear exactly what good that will do the Earth or the Moon. Appended to the main work are essays by various Burroughs scholars and fans who give their thoughts on this seminal dystopian SF work. I personally regard this dark narrative of a world under socialist utopia as one of ERB's finest works and a worthy addition to my library. Those who read it will almost certainly agree. Just remember, though, SF is a genre simply for fun and escape and has no underlying meaning at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic adventure
It's all you expect from Burroughs: over-the-top manliness, bold adventure, hot babes with European features, inane romatic misdirections, shambling opponents of the lower races, and all the rest. This time, misadventure lands Julian (Our Hero) on - or rather, in the moon. `S hollow, y'know, but well-lit anyway. This time, Julian brings his nemesis with him in the experimental moon ship. I think this was to make sure there was a proper Earthian bad guy, since you can't trust those silly natives to be evil enough. Despite his treacherous sabotage, Orthis (the bad guy) is spared by Julian's chivalry and sense of fair play. And by the author's need to keep the evil-doer ready at hand, for when Julian runs out of warlike but inept natives to fight.

Of course, the romantic misunderstanding is resolved in the end, leaving one to wonder at the Burroughsian world where princesses seem to drop from the trees like nuts in the fall. Not all is well in the end, though, since we need plenty of setup for the sequel so obviously required.

If this were a movie, I'd say wait for a rainy Saturday and a bucket of popcorn. It's a book, but you get the idea. It's wonderful, bold, and (to a modern reader) more than a little campy.

But I mean that in a nice way.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bill Hashauthor of AMRA
I have always regarded Moon Maid and it's sequel as one of Burrough's very good works. Unlike most of his other works evil triumphs temporarily
and adds a sense of pathos to the work. Although the science is outdated it is still a fine read. It's a shame that so few of his works made it to the screen (he is the author of Tarzan) This book was an inspiration for my own novel AMRA ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Star Wars: Boba Fett 1: The Fight to Survive
Star Wars: Boba Fett #1: The Fight to Survive, by Terry Bisson

This Boba Fett series is aimed at younger readers, but as Boba Fett is one of my favorite Star Wars characters, I read everything I can find on him. This is book one of a six book series.

"The Fight to Survive" covers the events of the film, "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones," and expands on Jango's death, Boba's upbringing, life on Kamino, and what Boba did after his father died.

The writing is at a 9 to 12 year old level, but I don't think older fans would mind it that much. I'm 24 and enjoying reading a novelization of Boba's younger days, as I don't like comics. There's some touching scenes, and it's fun to read about Boba's transformation from an orphaned ten-year-old to the merciless bounty hunter he is in the future. I can't wait to see what else Jango's black book has to say to Boba.

3/5.

1-0 out of 5 stars The author is "kind of like" a functional illiterate
Save your money, and your child.Don't buy this book.If it's in the school library, send it to the recycling center to be remanufactured into something more useful, like toilet paper.

Page 2 (bad definition):"A bounty hunter is an outlaw, a tracker -- and sometimes a killer -- for hire.He doesn't care who his targets are, or who they're running from, or why.He works for the highest bidder, which means the richest and the most ruthless beings in the galaxy. No questions asked."

Clue for author:Don't confuse a bounty hunter with a hit man who only sometimes kills.A dictionary may help.

Page 50 (bad simile):"Boredom is kind of like a microscope. It can make little things look big"

Clue for author:Read "Elements of style" by Strunk and White.Drop "kind of."

In closing, Mr. Bisson, please stop targeting children with your pap, buy a dictionary, and learn to write.

4-0 out of 5 stars My 8 year old loved it!!
My son found this book in the school library and loved it so much i bought it for him.this is a good way to get your kids reading, the words in it will enrich their vocabulary and face it, anything that gets your kids away from the tube and reading is a positive!!shows kids how sometimes life is not fair, but even a kid can find strength from within to make it in the world.although boba is technically a bad guy in later episodes, kids really identify and love him, so the message herein is good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boba Fett's Beginings
This is a great read! There are peices of the Star Wars film in this book, but it goes even further in depth of the characters. As a reader you get into the mind of a future bounty hunter Boba Fett as he deals with loneliness, his father's death, and learning to live on his own. His future to him is uncertain, though we know where he will end up, we do not know how he will get there and this first book in the series makes you want to travel that road with him. This is by far one of the more interesting books that I have read from the Star Wars collection, and I love this story and I cannot wait to see what happens in Book 2. This is a must read.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the many potential plot lines generated by Star Wars, the early life of Boba Fett
The Star Wars phenomenon is one that has many potential branches to the story, few of which can be explored on film. Therefore, the primary avenue of exploration is via books, and this one fleshes out the story of the young bounty hunter Boba Fett. The character was "first" introduced as an adult in "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" where Darth Vader has summoned a collection of bounty hunters to the bridge of his command ship. However, strictly speaking, the first appearance of Boba Fett is in the second movie of the series, "Attack of the Clones" where his father Jango Fett provides the genetic material for the clone army being raised on the planet Kamino
That is where this story begins and it follows through Boba's life beyond the point where his father is killed battling the Jedi on Geonosis. The last scene where Boba appears in "Attack of the Clones" is when Boba picks up the helmet of his father's battle armor after Jango has been killed. That event occurs on page 88 of this book.
The story then moves through the next events in Boba's life as he tries to survive as a ten-year old boy with no relatives and no friends. Fortunately, he knows how to fly his father's ship, so he retraces many of his steps over the last few days. Bereft of his father's protection, he quickly realizes that no one really has sympathy for him, some appear to befriend him but all are looking out to take advantage of him. Finally, he manages to land on a garbage planet and is welcomed by Count Dooku, who is more of the same but the last chance Boba has to survive.
Written for the young reader, this book develops one of the many potential plotlines that are generated in the Star Wars movies. I enjoyed in immensely, while there is a bit of implausibility inserted in the plot to satisfy the juvenile mindset, there was so little that adult fans of the genre can also enjoy it

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific science fiction
I absolutely love these productions, and it's a terrible shame that Sci-Fi no longers makes these available through their website.

Seeing Ear Theatre is a much mourned loss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Into the Sun!
WOW what a story! Brian Smith could sell this as a short story by itself it is so good IMO. I just wish they sold a hard copy of these writings--not just audio! I have been reading Sci Fi for a long time. This guy is great!Reminds me of 2001, a space odyssey a bit. Worth the price just for thisone folks!I noticed there are no other books by Brian Smith for sale onAmazon. What's up with that? He needs to write books, and Amazon needs tosell them--geez, do I make myself clear?

4-0 out of 5 stars Very compelling stories
This tape is well done. The sound effects create an atmosphere that draws in the listener. The actors are dramatic, but not overly so.The short stories themselves are well written, delivering edge-of-the-chair suspense(or knee-slapping comedy, as the case may be).

4-0 out of 5 stars It's finally here....and worth the wait!
As most net surfers are aware the Sci-Fi Channel's web site has included a section devoted to science fiction radio drama...Seeing Ear Theatre. One aspect of which includes originally producedproductions ceratedespecially for the site and which has featured performances by manywell-known SF actors as Micheal O'Hare,Mark Hamill,Marina Sirtis, andothers. With a few exceptions, a lot of the dramas are based on recentshort stories by SF writers such as Terry Bisson, Allen Steele, John Kesseland Gergory Benford. With the release of this audiobook editon(whichincludes introductions by SF's resident angry young{sic}man HarlanEllison)now one can listen to these stories anytime you want. The beststories(IMO)are the Three Odd Comedies and The Death of Captain Future(which despite the pulpish-sounding title is a darkly humorous tale set inthe future history of Steele's previous works such as Orbital Decay andClarke County,Space). If you like audio drama-- especially newly producedaudio drama...you'll love this collection and you may also want to checkout Vol. 2 which should be on sale soon(I know I can't wait). ...
