1-0 out of 5 stars For the EQ Completists ONLY!
First off, this EQ Readers Collection is part of the massive drivel WARP pumped out in the late 90's. Being a die-hard and feverishly devoted fan of EQ for over 15 years, I was shocked to see the quality of work in this and other Readers Collections.

This is not drawn by Wendy Pini, the Elf-Mom supreme, creator and co-founder of the greatest elf-adventure of all time. These stories contain interesting art, at least not as horrid as some of the other readers collections, but the story draaaaaaags on and only has great sequences in fits and starts.

I realize the Pini's wanted to 'get all the stories out there that needed to be told...' so to speak, but really, this was not the way to do it.

Buyers should also know that this collection of "Wavedancers" is NOT the original early 90's 6-issue series of "Wavedancers" created by Blackmermaid Productions. Those were tragically discontinued due to series of unfortunate squabbles and ultimately shelved as a 'what if' tale. Too bad, for once the Pinis struck gold with another creative team.

I recomend this Readers Collection for EQ completists only (formerly like me). For those that want true beauty in their Mer-elves, I urge you to seek out the first 6 comic issues of "Wavedancers" by BMP, as you will not be dissapointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wendy pini has done it again!
I as you may already know am a complete fan of all yhe elfquest books and comics. This is as good as any of her other peices of work with a livly story and great characters.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wavedancers: A review
This elfquest readers collection book does not focus on the elves we alladore, Cutter, Leetah, Ember, Scouter, Skywise, etc.Instead itconcentrates on the elves who remained in the sea.Like Winnowill, theyhad gills but were mostly the same as the other elves. Not a best read, itwas slightly boring at times. ... Product Description

Social and political history of the modern South.

This collection of essays on the social and political history of the modern South consider the region’s poor, racial mores and race relations, economic opportunity, Protestant activism, political coalitions and interest groups, social justice, and progressive reform.
History and Hope in the Heart of Dixie illuminates the dual role of historian and public advocate in modern America. In a time when the nation’s eyes have been focused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita onto the vulnerability and dire condition of poor people in the South, the applicability of research, teaching, and activism for this voiceless element seems all the more relevant.

Responding to the example of Wayne Flynt, whose fierce devotion to his state of Alabama and its region has not blinded his recognition of the inequities and despair that define southern life for so many, the scholars assembled in this work present contributions to the themes Flynt so passionately explored in his own work. Two seasoned observers of southern history and culture—John Shelton Reed and Dan T. Carter—offer assessments of Flynt’s influence on the history profession as a whole and on the region of the South in particular.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Flabbergaster"
I found this novel a delightful and interesting read. The inclusion of Buddhist spirituality, an amazingly international array of characters (even a Chinese Muslim (Uighur) tavernkeeper), and emphasis on the Native American experience, make this novel deeper and more meaningful than most other novels set in the American West. Though the plot is intriguing, the novel is at its best in depicting its colorful and diverse characters (Taylor, buoyant half-Indian, with a passion for music, who pairs up with Sun moon, beautiful Tibetan nun)and settings, from a Digger Indian village to Mormon Utah. Despite its realistic depictions of the racism and violence of the period, the story remains light-hearted and humorous. Sir Richard Burton, Nile explorer and drug addict, was particularly enjoyable. It would have been more interesting if his Sufi beliefs were explored a bit further, but of course he was somewhat of a side character.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book "rocks" !
Everything about this book kis great. Awesome and *original* story line, interesting historical facts, and wild adventure. This is the first book I've ever read by Blevins, and now I can't wait to order his other books, pronto. If you like historically based novels and unique :-) story lines, this is the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock Child
This book is a first person account of a perilous journey taken across the wild west. What makes this book unique is the company the teller keeps.A half breed of unknown origins is the teller, and he is in the company of aTibetan nun whom he has fallen in love with, and a spy for theBritish--who's secretly practicing a 'heathen' religion! If you likewesterns...try this one! It's a western with a twist! ...
