From the supplier: Jane Bowles explored the dread that accompanies choice in her short story "Camp Cataract" and in her novel 'Two Serious Ladies.' Bowles focused on the implications for women of the existential tenet of choosing to be true to oneself. She realized that women experience fear and anxiety when having to make choices. In "Camp Cataract" Sadie commits suicide because of her unwillingness to face reality. Christina in 'Two Serious Ladies' succeeds in overcoming her fears and in establishing an identity for herself.
