5-0 out of 5 stars Great romantic fantasy
In Liza's home Oceania, Conar is unable to control his temper so his father-in-law incarcerates him.Unbeknownst to the royals, Conar's guard has drugged him.A recurring nightmare chills Conar because he would rather die than see his beloved Princess sleep with his half-brother and in those same dreams his former mentor/tormentor Kaileel Tohre vows to separate the lovers forever.Eventually, he and Liza decide to return to his father's kingdom over the objection of his mother-in-law who fears for her daughter's safety.

Liza believes they are destiny's children with her being the Keeper and him the Prince of the Wind. However, Tohre is stronger and his thirst for vengeance over Conar's rejection deeper. He plans to give Liza to Conar's half brother, destroy Conar so he begs to return, and devastate the land by making Conar's twin Galen the monarch. The Brothers of the Dominion that he leads appear on the verge of achieving these goals the disinherited Conar lies seemingly dead in the Labyrinth, Galen has a now pregnant Liza at his side on the throne, and Tohre rules the kingdom.

The third Windlegend tale is fantastic as time moves on with the death of Conar's father and Liza now with King Galen. The story line is action-packed leaving readers breathless at the pace of the major subplots. As with the fine first two novels, the tale is owned by a terrific cast of good vs. evil with the bad guys having the upper hand.Excellent fantasy that is best read by starting with the previous tales as this novel builds up the excitement and tension from them; how much higher can as Charlotte Boyett-Compo take her audience with the remaining six stories?

4-0 out of 5 stars The battle continues...
This book began where the last left off. Liza and Conar arrive home with their newborn daughter, Nadia. Nadia was only the first of several Liza gave birth to in this novel.

The Domination was not finished with Conar yet. Even Tohre would not be able to help him. Conar's son, Corbin, would also catch the Temple's eyes. Corbin was born with the crescent shaped mark in his hand. The mark was "The Sign of the Wind". Liza would sacrifice much for her son. The whole realm would.

**** Readers again are warned of torture scenes and dark fantasy. I had to be VERY careful not to give anything ital away. This book is fast paced and over-flowing with surprises! I recommend this entire series highly and look forward to book four! ****

By TT reviewer Susan Tam
Windweeper is book three from the WindLegends Saga. The book opens with Conar and Liza trying to get back on track as a couple. In the previous book, Conar sent Liza back to her parents but he has come to reclaim his wife. However, her family has taken exception to her treatment at Conar's hands and they are set on keeping her safe. They refuse to let her return with him to Serenia until he proves he has conquered his problems. Conar seems to have control over his anger, jealousy and his drinking problem. Liza remains steadfast in her love and belief in him. Finally, Liza is allowed to return with her husband back to Serenia. However, the shadows of Kaileel Tohre and the Brotherhood of the Domination are not far behind. Kaileel has not taken Conar's rejection well. He is hell bent on destroying Conar and all that he holds dear -- his wife, children, family and friends.

Of the three books in this series I have read, I've enjoyed this one the most. It was the most balanced in terms of story and character development. The violence was not overdone compared to the previous book. I experienced great joy and great sorrow and practically all the emotions in between. I enjoyed learning more about the secondary characters especially Legion, Brelan and even Galen. You learn more about Kaileel and Conar's relationship. This book takes you beyond Conar and Liza's relationship.

In order to understand the motivations, characterizations and storyline, I highly recommend you read the books in order. You can see the growth and maturation of the characters over these three books. I look forward to reading book four of this series when it is published.

In the third novel in the nine-book series of Sword & Sorcery, author Charlotte Boyett-Compo once again keeps holds the reader rapt until the last page turns. Picking up where book two leaves off, Conar and Liza McGregor struggle against the winds of fate, victim of storms beyond their imagining.

At last reunited, Conar and Liza plan to return to his father's kingdom Serenia. Confronting the demon Raphian in the book's prologue, Conar learns to unit his gifts with Liza to defeat the Storm God. Little do they realize that with the battle won, they've yet to win the war against the evil god and those who serve him, The Brothers of the Dominion led by Kaileel Tohre. Or the depths of evil Tohre will sink to in order take revenge for being scorned by Conar.

Nightmares taunt him, bringing visions of Liza with Conar's half-brother, Brelan Saur. He hears Tohre's vicious gloating, promises of Tohre depriving Conar of his lady forever. The dreams prove to be a retched prophecy as Conar falls victim to great evil. His drink spiked with tensure by his own Elite guard, Conar again looses his temper. Liza's mother, the queen, refuses to allow Conar to take Liza home, fearing for her safety, both from Conar and from Tohre.

Liza is determined to stand beside Conar so they may defeat Tohre and his followers together. She believes they are destined to be together. She is the Keeper of the Wind; he is the Prince of the Wind. Sadly, Liza underestimates the events already set into motion, and the reach and evil of the Dominion. Death and change will sweep aside all that she loves and all that she believes in.

As Tohre's power grows, his perversity and evil threaten to destroy the kingdom. Tohre destroying Conar and weakens the power of the King as Galen, Conar vile twin, steps in to rule the kingdom. But that is only the beginning of Tohre's plans. Over taxation, repossessing the homes and belongings of those unable to pay, destroying the spirit of the people, and the surrounding kingdoms, all build the power of the Dominion. For the first time, their goal to bring mankind into submission to their power, begins to become a real possibility.

Boyett-Compo allows the Windlegend series to grow beyond a simple fantasy series, with a fascinating and reverting love story, into a saga of the fight between good and evil. The evolving mythology, on which the novel rests, continues to become even more complex and mesmerizing with each book of the series. Further, the story of Conar's destruction had me reading until three in the morning, tears streaming down my face. I could hardly keep going, the novel touched me so deeply, yet I couldn't put the thing down. The pain and the challenges faced by these extraordinary characters held me enthralled. If you like Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, then you're going to love Charlotte Boyett-Compo's Windlegends. Very highly recommended.

Here is a story that will take you to the seat of your chair to find out what will happen next. A story of two souls that must conquer a dark evil. They go through obstical after obstical and their love grows stronger. When you finish this book you will be looking for the next book. Here is another book that you will not be able to put down. Again Charlott Boyett-Compo has outdone herself. I highly recomend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful!
It was my first time reading compo's work, and I must say after reading this one, I am now a dedicated fan. This dark fantasy (and dark it is) tops my list of all the fantasies i've ever read. Sean and Bronwyns agony, passion and romance come steaming off the pages as you read. And I can assure you that with every painful seperation they go through you will no doubt feel it as well as any resentment you may feel after realizing that her parents are Idiots. The ending literally broke myheart. It's not the typical happy ending story where all works out for the best. The book was filled w/ ups and downs, and combined the drama of a real life romance w/ that of dark fantacy. Trust me, when I say this, upon finishing this book you will crave for the other. So, do not read this until you atleast have the second one on hand to immediately continue and ease the longing in yourheart. Once you read any of compo's novels you cannot go back. If you choose to read dark fantasy read hers. She's an expert at what she does!

Syntian Cree is a demon, the NightWind. Who comes from a place where time has no meaning. For many centuries, he has been able to hear a woman's pain. He comes to women with sorrow and pained heavy souls to help them. But unknown to Syntian, someone has made it possible for Lauren Fowler's call to stand out from thousands of others. Once he hears Lauren calling to him, Syntian must avenge her. Not only must Syntian avenge Lauren, he feels he must claim her gentle soul and heart as his.
Lauren is a forty-something year old woman, who's never known the touch of a loving man. For most of her life, people have treated Lauren horribly. Those people even include her mother, Maxine Fowler. Who, for years on end has ingrained in Lauren that men were evil and not to be trusted. But things start to change for Lauren when Syntian Cree comes into town. Lauren notices that Syntian is one of the sexiest men she's every seen and she's not the only one to think so. As time passes, even though good things are happening for her, bad things are happening to those who have disrespected Lauren.

Charlotte Boyett-Compo has managed to write a dark, sensual tale that is very appealing. Readers will find that Syntian Cree is a very interesting character. The things that he does to avenge Lauren are certainly out of the ordinary, dark and scary. It was interesting to read how the tables turned on him. His world crumbled while Lauren's shined brighter than ever. NightWind is quite a lengthy story. It will take a dedicated reader to sit down and stay with the story from beginning to end. The story certainly has a great deal of eye-catching, eye-popping moments that will definitely keep the reader flipping from page to page. I recommend that readers pick up this story and read Charlotte Boyett-Compo's work.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Empire worth fighting for
The eternal battle of the sexes rages on and this time it is fought among the stars.

Charlotte Boyett-Campo mingles the threads of ancient Roman history with Celtic myths of vampires and highland music to forge a world, an Empire, and a love among the stars. Although Kamerone Cree, Rysalian Prime Reaper, and Dr. Bridget Dunne form the central focus of Bloodwind, they are the sword tip upon which a galaxy and an empire turns. Bridget, hungry for the comforts and familiarity of home, falls irrevocably for the animal she feared and hated in Cree, even to offering her life's blood to save him from death, until she is the Empire he willing sacrifices his principles and his way of life to preserve. Add a rebellion of women stolen from nearby systems and Earth divided against themselves and the stranglehold of a despotic empire which has grown fat on hate and fear and you have a tale of dark myth with an even darker end.

5-0 out of 5 stars If it is by Boyett-Compo, it is going to be great!
The Rysalian Empire had been near extinction. All their females were useless. When the men learned that the females from Terra could be impregnated by their race, they created Retrieval Units to abduct them.

Of all the warriors in the Empire, the ones known as Reapers were most feared. They were the elite, feared by men and women alike. Trained from birth to hunt and kill, then altered at the age of ten for other special talents, Reapers knew no fear and no love. Prime Reaper Captain Kamerone Cree was the best of them all. The Fleet called him "the Iceman".

The Resistance had noticed Cree's looks toward Dr. Bridget Dunne. With careful planning the Resistance had Cree taken to Behavioral Modification (Be-Mod 9) for "punishment". Unknown to the Empire, the doctors of Be-Mod 9 were really re-programming the Prime Reaper.

That was easier said than done, for Reapers were what Terra called Vampires. A bloodbeast lived within each Reaper. They were usually merciless warriors with a high pain tolerance, but whenever one entered into Transition the beast took over. The Resistance chose Bridget as his mate. Cree and Bridget would be used to change the Empire, whether they liked it or not!

***** A lot of torture takes place within this book. Anyone who enjoys the series of STAR WARS will find themselves glued to the pages of this novel! I do not care if you are male or female! It is a Dark Fantasy novel with a touch of Romance. I practically GROWLED at anyone who made me stop reading for even a few minutes. It is THAT good! Highly recommended to ALL Fantasy and Sci-Fi fans out there! *****

5-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE of Captain Kamerone Cree - The Reaper!!!
BloodWind is book one of the WindDemon Trilogy written by Charlotte Boyett-Compo.In one word, this book was Incredible!!!!!

Captain Kamerone Cree is the highest ranking officer in the Ministry of Acquisitions.Since birth, he has been conditioned and trained to uphold the beliefs of the brutal Rysalian Empire. He, along with six others, are known as Reapers. All of them are extremely dangerous and possess the power to shapeshift into something very, very . . . lethal.None of them are more dangerous than Kamerone Cree.

His savage/ruthless reputation causes men and women to flee from his presence. No one dares to confront Kamerone, fearing his wrath. He displays no emotion at all and is known as the Iceman.Whatever he wants, he gets.No questions asked.Nothing is denied him until the Tribunal questions his loyalty and decides to make an example of him.

Why is his loyalty in question when it has never been before? He believes he knows who is responsible. The Resistance . . .

He is ordered to the Ministry of Behavioral Modification where he undergoes cruel and brutal treatments. It is there that Dr. Bridget Dunne enters his life.

Bridget is young, beautiful and a member of the Resistance.Along with her co-workers, she seeks to gain freedom from the Rysalian Empire and their only hope is to have Prime Reaper Kamerone Cree join their side.Bridget never imagines the impact he will have in her life.As he is forced to go through brutal reconditioning methods, her feelings for him begin to change.

Kamerone is the most deadliest of his kind.A shapeshifting assassin that believes any emotion will leave him vulnerable.Yet, he falls very, very HARD for Bridget. He purchases her, forcing her to live with him. It is there that their feelings spiral out of control.

Unknown to these two, there are darker forces at work. There are some who will stop at nothing to insure that their evil plans come to life.

Kamerone Cree was the ultimate, tortured hero. He was simply to die for . . . (sigh!)He possessed such unimaginable power, a deadly force to be reckoned with if ever crossed yet he never harms Bridget. One scene comes to mind (can't give anything away).Bridget pushes Kamerone's emotions, willingly making him angry. She expects him to hurt her yet he never does.He touches her with gentleness and that soft caress is so very intimidating because it is in such contrast to the deadly fury roaring within him.

Will Kamerone join the Resistance and what will he do once he discovers Bridget's part in all of it?

BloodWind was worth MORE than 5 stars!!It is incredibly written. I, for one, eagerly await the continuation of Bridget and Kamerone's story in DarkWind.

Run and grab yourself a copy of BloodWind.Prepare to fall in love with the deadliest of all shapeshifting assassins - Kamerone Cree.

Bravo, Charlee!

5-0 out of 5 stars This was well worth the long wait
Due to their blundering warrior-scientific heritage, the Rysalians must steal females from other planets after accidentally eradicating their own women.Prime meat comes from places like Terra. However, these independent females refuse to simply turn into "loyal" subjects or sex fodder for the Reapers, another Rysalian warrior-scientific species experiment. The earthlings secretly head up the Resistance.

The lords sitting on the Bench of the Court of Military Justice declare Captain Kamerone Cree guilty, shocking all reapers since their word is usually law.Cree, the highest ranked and recognized most deadly of reapers, is sentenced to active reinforcement at the Ministry of Behavioral Modification.Kamerone knows the resistance is involved and thirsts for vengeance.

The resistance "controls" key Ministry of Behavioral Modification positions. They plan to insure that Kamerone falls in love with a Terran to win him to their side as the beginning of a more powerful opposition. They already have programmed Dr. Bridget Dunne to fall in love with Kamerone.

BLOOD WIND, the first novel in the "Wind Demon" trilogy, is an exciting science fiction tale that uses romance and vampire elements to enhance a strong plot. The story line never slows down as readers observe an advanced technological society using its science to control and change people.Cree has many vampire traits, but love is not supposed to be in his genetic make-up.Does he love Bridget, an intrepid heroine who turns his bark into more than his bite, because of science or his heart?Charlotte Boyett-Compro has written a fabulous novel that will leave readers thirsting for books two and three.

5-0 out of 5 stars MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
Who would ever quess that an obsessed woman could destroy a young man's life the way that Suzanna did? It makes my skin crawl to think about it.
Prince of The Wind begins with the young Prince being rescued by the Zonelanders from a year long captivity on an enemy ship. Riain Cree was only 16 years old and had not tasted manhood yet when the young Prince contacted Labyrinthian fever and had to be nursed back to health by Prince Gunter DeViennes' daughter Suzanna, who was still unmarried and untouched at the age of 29.
Suzanna became infatuated with the young Prince and drugged him, causing his body to become inflamed with desire for her. After their act of intimacy, Suzanna claimed the young Prince as her own. Unfortunately for her, his mother and father had other ideas for him and whisked him away back to his homeland. Even in this fictitious tale, my heart went out to Riain's mother, who would stop at nothing to save her youngest son. But her attempts were in vain!
Suzanna was insane and cursed the young Prince and all those he loved or would love. Selling her soul to a demon, she involved the powers of darkness to weave her web and claim him as her own. However, a sorceress named Maeve had fallen in love with the young prince and swore to save his life and be with him forever. Will her powers be strong enough or will Riain be lost forever in the dark Abyss?
The story weaves in and out with fragments of the paranormal, mysticism, time travel, witches, werewolves, vampires, and romance. Prince of The Wind is a tale of obsessive lust and undying love. What force will win?
A good read, especially for those who like a tale that makes the hair stand up on the back of their necks. This one may just give you a few nightmares!

Fantasy readers will gain immense pleasure from the deeply vivid complex PRINCE OF THE WINDS.The hero struggles with overcoming his illness and evil to do the right thing.Suzanna is quite the character spinning a dark web throughout the taut story line so that the audience receives a terse thriller inside a fantasy realm.Charlotte Boyett-Compo shows her tale spinning abilities to paint a unique world with this fresh but darker than usual (at least from this wonderful author) epic fantasy that will send readers to the four corners seeking the tremendous "Wind" novels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very highly recommended
Evil has a new face in the remarkable hands of Charlotte Boyett-Compo. IN THE HEART OF THE WIND is a heart rending psychological drama revealing that cruelty and injustice have no limits in the quest for power--sometimes even within families.

Gabe and Annie James have a wonderful, loving life together. Married for two years, Annie knows little of Gabe's past, and is sometimes surprised at the jobs he chooses, which don't seem to live up to the expectations set by a college degree. Although Gabe's secretive about his past, Annie hasn't asked a lot of questions; that is, until now. While doing the laundry, Annie finds a news clipping about the death of a policeman in Florida. Later, she finds a trunk filled with such clippings and such paraphernalia as a policeman would own.

Iowa winters can be brutal, especially for a southern boy. Despite the frigid temperatures and piles of snow, Gabe was happy living with Annie. But there were times when his silence, preoccupation and nightmares frightened Annie. Nevertheless, the whole town loved Gabe, so when he was suddenly kidnapped from his home, an illegal act witnessed by neighbors, the town rallied to his rescue. Even when they learn of Gabe's past and his mobster family, the townsfolk never gave up their relentless pursuit to find Gabe.

Gabe James is really James Gabriel Tremayne, son of mobster Liam Tremayne, a man whose quest for power leads to kidnapping and torturing his own son. Gabe was the only child of four that didn't conform to Liam's expectations. Unwanted since his conception, the young Gabe had only wanted his father's time and affection. What he got was inconceivable abuse. And now the abuse has committed him to a mental institution, ordered shock therapy and plastic surgery, and promised to never set him free. Further, Liam promises harm to Annie if Gabe attempts escape.

IN THE HEART OF THE WIND provides psychological drama guaranteed to satisfy the appetite of the most demanding thriller fan. Previous fans of Ms. Boyette-Compo will relish this familiar, exciting voice while new fans will quickly find themselves addicted. Fast paced plotting, excellent characterization and a powerful voice combine in this heart rendering tale of power gone mad to reveal the dangers IN THE HEART OF THE WIND.

5-0 out of 5 stars tremendous romantic fantasy
In Viago, her father the Duke informs Gillian Cree that she will marry her family enemy, the lecherous vile Rolf de Viennes to pay a debt.Though her sire demands that honor is served by the marriage, her brother Nick vows to take her to safety to Boreas, but the snowstorm stops their escape. The siblings find refuge in a bleak manor house in the middle of nowhere.

The dismal home belongs to Prince Kaelan Hesar, who fell in love only to have his Jarl disapprove his choice, incarcerate him and ultimately sold him in marriage.Since his spouse died, Kaelan lives as a recluse caring for no one not even himself.Ironically the woman he loved that started his cycle of doom has now sought shelter in his home.Gillian brings Kaelan back to life and though he is not to even see her, this time he refuses to let her go.They visit a priest who marries Gillian and Kaelan, but though they hope for a long and happy relationship together, their respective families and de Viennes have darker plans for the loving duo.

WINDFALL is a tremendous romantic fantasy that emphasizes the relationships and attributes of the key cast members.Readers will appreciate the second chance at love between the lead couple and the unselfish attitude of Nick, which contrasts nicely with his avaricious father, the depraved Rolf, and Kaelan's power greedy Jarl. The audience will enjoy this tale with newcomers wanting to read more "Wind" tales from an author that us fans know is one of the best writers of dark heated romantic fantasy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Tales 4 stars review
by Angela Black

Lady Gillian Cree--or Gilly as she is called--does not want to marry the cruel and sadistic Rolf de Viennes whom her parents have chosen for her. With the help of her older brother Lord Nicholas Cree (Nick) she runs away from home. But the weather is bitter cold and they find themselves in the midst of a snowstorm and seeking shelter. They find what appears to be an abandoned house and break in to take shelter. What they discover inside surprises them.

Inside the house Gilly and Nick find an unconscious man who is near death. They discover that he is someone they know. They nurse him back to health and he tells them about the lies of the past that separated him from his one true love-Gilly.

Widowed Prince Kaelan Hesar has been in seclusion for five years in the house known as Holy Dale. Shortly before his self-imposed withdrawal from the world, his wife died tragically in the house. He has been suspected of killing her. For this reason, he is hated by the local people, who have nicknamed the house Unholy Dale. Once Kaelan's health improves, he leaves the house with Gilly and Nick and sets out on an adventure to right the wrongs done to them. However, they don't realize that their troubles are about to begin all over again.

Charlotte Boyett-Compo has developed an alternate world with three-dimensional characters that are entrenched in political intrigue. The story is masterfully told through the eyes of Kaelan as he alternates between past and present to explain what led to his separation from Gilly. There is some graphic violence and sex but it's not gratuitous. This story is a prequel to the Keeper of the Wind series.

Be warned, there are a few scenes that some may find disturbing-I did. In several flashbacks Nick and Gilly are involved in sexual encounters: she is only 14 and he's 21 years old. A few years later, while she is still not of age, he fondles and attempts to have sex with her. While this may be acceptable to some readers, this reviewer found it disturbing, especially given current news headlines about men taking advantage of young girls.
