5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Cozy Mystery Series!
In The Cat who Talked to Ghosts, James Qwilleran aka "Qwill", is called late one evening by his dear friend, Iris Cobb. Iris has been frightened by some noises that she hears outside of her apartment at the Goodwinter Memorial Museum and begs Qwill to help her. Immediately throwing on clothes over his pajamas, Qwill rushes out to Iris' home, and arrives too late, only to find his former housekeeper already dead...apparently from a heart attack. Mourning the loss of his friend, Qwill agrees to move into her apartment and take her place until a permanent replacement is found. Moving into Iris' home also gives Qwill the opportunity to poke around in her sudden and suspicious death.

Moving his adored cats, KoKo and Yum Yum, to the museum, Qwill begins to question his feeling about ghosts. Several influential members of the town claim to have seen them, and Qwill wonders if Iris had been frightened to death by a ghost's apparition. But redirecting Qwill's attention from the untimely death are several other strange occurances in Moose County. One is the annoying presence of Vince Boswell, the loud, brash man who lives up the lane from the museum and who is being considered to be the replacement for Iris, despite his lack of aptitude for the job. Another is an escaped felon that shows up in town...and shortly after his arrival, his ex-wife's goats are poisoned. Finally, many begin to wonder about the Goodwinter curse, and rumors continue to swirl regarding the death of Ephraim Goodwinter decades after his death. Qwill questions all of the facts, and in the end, finds that all of the pieces to this puzzle neatly tie together to spell murder.

In The Cat who Lived High, James Qwilleran aka "Qwill", is feeling the familiar wanderlust grab him as the threat of the first large snowfall descends on Moose County (400 miles north of everywhere). When he is summoned by an old friend from "down below" to help restore the old Casablanca building in Junktown, he agrees to visit the old apartment building that has lost most of its previous shining glory.

Once he arrives, he realizes very quickly that the old building is not in great shape, and that the tenants are an eclectic mix. He meets elderly folks, young artists, and one eccentric building owner who is called the countess and never leaves her suite. Qwill is assigned the penthouse apartment on the 14th Floor, and when KoKo starts sniffing a stain on the rug, Qwill's natural curiosity is raised. He learns that there had been a murder in his temporary residence, and as he decides whether to finance the restoration of the Casablanca, he also probes into the mysterious death. With the help of his two irrepressible felines, KoKo and Yum Yum, the unlikely detective threesome saves countless lives from the clutches of an evil, greedy killer.

In The Cat who Knew a Cardinal, James Qwilleran and his two Siamese cats move into their newly converted apple barn, and are celebrating the successful first run production by the Pickax Theatre Club. When the entire cast (except for one) shows up at Qwilleran's new home for a wrap-party and informal housewarming, he is happy to entertain many of his close friends. The party lasts well into the early morning hours, and when the last guest drives away, KoKo starts his impressive "death howl". Walking outdoors, Qwilleran learns there has been a shooting on his property, and the controversial high school principle has been murdered. Qwilleran and his amazing cats begin to investigate, and quickly dig into some truths buried in the nearby town of Lockmaster. And when Polly returns a day late from a wedding she attended in the town, Qwilleran starts to get suspicious about what is happening in Lockmaster. In between bird watching with KoKo, a cat pageant to find a look-alike for Tippy's beloved mascot, and a steeplechase, Qwilleran puts the pieces together on another murder in sleepy Moose County.

This is my favorite cozy mystery series! I had read all of the books in the past, and wanted to read them again for a second time. This time around, I have chosen to listen to them on CD, as I love the voice of George Guidall. Many fans enjoy the homey, familiar feel of the town and the characters themselves.

If you are looking for a hardcore thriller, this would not be the series for you. However, if you are a fan of small town cozies, give this series a try. You might just find that you have become an avid "Cat Who" fan before the book is even finished.

This is a great series by my favorite author!

The first book in the series is called "The Cat who Could Read Backwards". Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. Braun's books are something unexpected
The first time I read one of Mrs Braun's bookswith Koko and Yum Yum (to say nothing of the newsmand and owner, Qwilleran) I was in Florida, workin as Disney Cast Member. I have always been fond of animals, but these books made me feel very fond of siamese cats, and something thatwas very unusual, was the ability of this lady writer to "paint" vivid the character of a man written by a woman. All along during the reading of the first novel I thought the writer was a man. Only when I closed the cover I found out to be a lady. She is now one of my favourite writers. ... Read more

When Jim Qwilleran retired to Moose County (400 miles north of everywhere), he intended to write a book -- a novel of crime and investigation with a metropolitan setting. He never finished the first page!Instead, he listened to the folktales of local people and recorded a collection of Moose County legends. 2-0 out of 5 stars Mystery Cats- One more book down the drain
`Mystery Cats' is a collection of 13 short story mysteries about old men with treasure, possessed old maids, young children, and grumpy old men written by Rendell Braun. I would give this book a 2 star out of 5 rating. I didn't really like it. Mystery Cats is a mystery book and a short stories book. This book was not one of my favorites, and I didn't like it very much because the mysteries weren't very suspenseful.

I also don't like short stories much because the plot and characters are always changing. Mystery Cats put me to sleep. It wasn't like most mystery books. It doesn't create the suspense that keeps you turning the page. Actually, it does quite the opposite. I liked how the author got you into all the stories quickly, but I didn't like it how they were only about 20 pages long each.

I liked the stories' plots because they made sense and kept me in the book. The stories were okay, but they ended so quickly and the mysteries in some of the stories were never solved or completely ended. That was kind of annoying to me. The mysteries weren't `intense' enough for my taste. The mysteries in this book were rather dull.

If you like dull mysteries and short stories, then you will like this book. Otherwise, save your money for college or something else good and don't waste gas and pollute our environment to buy a dud. I would not recommend this book to people my age because it was very boring to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mystery Cats
Mystery Cats is many short story/mysteries.I found these series of stories very interesting. Some of the stories are really good while others are just ok.

Many of the stories include ghosts, murder, theft and other things that make their stories good. I really liked The Thief of the Mafia Cat. It's a story about a thief who uses his mind to figure out a very clever way to steal a heavily guarded cat.

The other one I liked was Miss Paisley's Cat. It is a story about a old lady who revenges her cat's murder. The Lady Who Wore Black is another one of my favorties. It is a story about a cat who seeks to revenge her owner's death.
Another one I really liked was The Old Grey Cat. This one is about a very strange girl and her stranger friend. I would suggest this book to ages 12 and up. I found myself confused at times. Also some of the stories in this book are a bit troubling. If you read this book and liked it there is another book called More Mystery Cats. I really enjoyed this book and would suggest it to any one who likes mysteries novels or cats.
Out of 5 I give this book a 4.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amusing
I read this selection of stories in 3 days on the bus home from school. The ride seemed very short and I was reluctant to get off at my stop. So there had to be something good in these cat mystery shorts. My favouritesincluded "The Beast Within" for it's excellent ending and"The Black Cat" for it's increasing paranoia. Some stories werejust plain bad like the one from Lilian Braun. Read it and you'll see whatI mean. I guessed the ending way before it came and it was a bit of a letdown. This is for anyone who likes cat and mystery stories.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book made me feel horrible!
I have to say that this book really disturbed me. I had to stop reading it because there was alot of "VERY BAD THINGS" involved in most of the stories that I read. I do realize this is a mystery book, but like Isaid, it made me feel horrible. I really wouldn't reccomend it to anyonewho has a "sensitive" side. ... Read more

Product Description

America's most beloved writer, Lilian Jackson Braun, author of twenty-four Cat Who... mysteries is now the subject of a mystery herself. In this spoof by one of her most ardent admirers, her beheaded body has been discovered in the men's room of a gay bar in Lower Manhattan. The police are baffled, and so it is up to Braun's eccentric writer friend, James Q. (Qafka), and his Siamese cats Ying-Ton and Poon-Tang to solve the ghastly mystery. Q.'s quest leads him on a hilarious, ribald chase that's a cross between a story by Lenny Bruce and Dashiell Hammett. Before it's done we've encountered Pulitzer Prize-winning Philip Roth, a sex-starved suburban housewife, a mysterious Hollywood diary, Britney Spears, an ancient secret society, and two gifted cats whose trail of urine and hairballs leads Q. and his spunky undergraduate assistant to finally unravel the riddle of The Cat Who Killed Lilian Jackson Braun.

1-0 out of 5 stars fuhgeddaboudit
A parody? No.Parodies are usually funny. This is one of the filthiest books I have ever read.It is more soft porn than humor.People who read LJB will be offended by this book and the people who would enjoy this book would never read LJB.Line your cat box or bird cage with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Time Nor Your Money
This book is over the line.I expected a spoof, not some border-line porn written for men who are sitting in the bathroom for too long. The only thing comparable to the Cat Who series is the copy catting of the title and the take off on Qwillern's and the two cats' names.

Even if you liked this kind of barnyard fertilizer, the writting is weak and the story does not hold together. This is only the second book I've thrown in the trash in my 60+ years.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not so funny parody
The Cat Who Killed Lilian Jackson Braun: A Parody is sort of a parody. It is more of a rambling, teen trash talk filled piece.Disjointed and non sensical. It seems to be the author's ramblings using all of the stereotypes of modern detective stories. I would not recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Good Idea Wasted
What could have been an amusing take-off on the Jackson-Braun mysteries never rises above the level of strained scatological humor that sounds as if it were written by an impossibly well-read seventh-grader.The occasional flashes of genuine wit are so mired in excretia and effluvia as to lose their sparkle. This reviewer wanted to give the book a chance, given the intriguing premise, but soon realized that the author had (in an unfortunate imitation of Samuel Johnson) begun as he meant to go on.What was probably a funny riff before friends and after a few drinks, glasses raised and standards lowered, does not succeed on the sober page. This reviewer hesitates to comment on a book not read to the end, but life is too short and time too precious. My only regret is not that I didn't finish the book, but that someone else didn't write it.

1-0 out of 5 stars The cat who killed lilian jackson braun
I'm glad I only checked it out from the library and didn't waste money on it.Read all the other reviews and that is my opinion too.I only read the first chapter and decided not to waste anymore time. There are too many enjoyable books to read to waste time on this title.

It got one star because I couldn't give it 0 stars.
