A Great Book of Poetry
I just purchased a copy of this book to replace one that I gave away. It is beautifully bound and the illustrations add to the beauty of the poetry. Since the author/compiler of this volume died in 1878, there are obviously no 20th century poets included in the collection. I enjoy randomly opening the book and reading whatever poems are on the pages that I have opened it to. Both copies I purchased had a black cover. I don't know if there really is a version in a green cover.

The best poetry book ever....
I first got this book as a Christmas gift when I was 16 years old (back in the early '80s). I wore it out and it fell apart. I bought a new copy last year and I'm so glad I did. I'm now sharing it with my kids. I love this book.

Illustrated Library of World Poetry is beautiful inside and out.
This beautifully crafted book is a wonderful edition to anyone's collection. Crafted as one would expect from a deluxe edition, with ridged spine, guilded page edges, and ribbon page marker attached. 775 pages of actual poetry with an index of first lines in the back and a table of contents, list of illustrations, and an index of authors in the front of the book. The only caution I would give to anyone wishing to purchase this book is that the Font (Type) used is quite small (approximately 6 points) which would make it very difficult for anyone with vision problems to enjoy. Not What It Seems
This book has great poetry entries but as far as being illustrated, it's scarce within the anthology. The title is a bit deceiving.

My favorite poetry book, ever.....
I got this book 22 years ago as a teenager. I loved it and read it so often it fell apart. I need to buy another one. If I had to choose an all-time favorite book, this would be it.

simply wonderful
i discovered an old, beat up early 1900's copy of this at agarage sale and have since fallen in love with it.every possiblefamous poem from any genre can be found in it...plus, it is the only anthology to contain my favorite poem of all time, "the maniac" by george monk lewis.
