5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Probably one of the best books I have ever read. A few naff references by the author, name dropping his other books into the story, but the quality of writing is so good I can easily forgive this little show of vanity. No lapse in the sheer attention grabbing storyline from the first page to the last.

1-0 out of 5 stars Trees Were Destroyed for This?
This book was a waste of paper.

Every sentence is a paragraph.

There's much more white space on every page than writing.

The paragraph he uses most is:

Perfect!

The 400 plus page book could have been done in less than 200.

When the author runs out of things to say, he lists the music a character likes.

The author is narcissitic. He appears in his own book. His other "Laws" books are possessed by the characters.

The ending doesn't make sense. How could the computer of the killer contain all the information tying the whole story together? He was on a need to know basis. The author just got tired.

The sex is gratuitous and tacky. The lesbian scene was visible a mile off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another winner
This is the fifth book I have read by this author and the twists and turns keep comming!I can't wait to see what messes Coventry finds himself in the next Laws book!Definitely a page turner and highly recomended!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Good Stuff Just Keeps on Comin'
Each time I get into one of Jim Michael Hansen's books, I feel like I am putting on my old comfortable pair of tennis shoes. The only difference is that my shoes go where I want to go.With the "Bryson Coventry Thrillers," I am never sure where my journey will end.

Bryson Conventry, head of the Denver Homicide Division, is confronted with a killing that should seem cut and dried.A guy stabbed in his bedroom.Bryson figures it should be pretty easy.Instead, it ends up intersecting him with two very interesting women.

The first is Paige Alexander. She is a newly licensed lawyer who is currently working as a waitress. The Denver legal market is turning out to be a bit harder to crack than she thought it would be.But Paige's luck is about to change when she meets the second woman, Ja'Von Deveraux.A beautiful private investigator from San Francisco.Ja'Von wants to hire Paige to help her go after the largest law firm in the city. This law firm had sent the P.I. to Bangkok to do surveillance.Instead, Ja'Von ended up being forced into the sex slave trade. And Ja'Von is sure the firm had something to do with it.

To complicate matters, Bryson is finding himself falling for Ja'Von.The beautiful P.I. is falling for Bryson also, but does not want to tell him the real reason why she is in the city.

Avid readers have their favorite authors and this one has become one of mine. The style of each book is the same, but the plot twists and turns are uniquely different from one another. This is the fifth book in the series and the luster is still there.

Bryson Conventry is just as interesting now as he was in "Night Laws" - Hansen's first book.Especially the women he meets. They just seem to get more beautiful with each new story. The characters that surround Bryson have not lost their luster either. They all come off the pages as living, breathing people.

The best part of Hansen's writing is that I get dropped into the depths of the story within two or three pages. As with most of the series, I started and finished this book in one sitting.

I whole-heartedly recommend reading "Bangkok Laws."It is great, whether or not a person has read the other "Laws" books.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Hooked on Hansen and Coventry
There's no other way to say it, I'm hooked on Bryson Coventry AND the man who brought him to life. Hansen's other characters change with each story and are so full of life and so vivid that unfortunately, I can never put one down until it's finished. This story deals with Bangkok white slavery and a mega law firm As usual, he is working on more than one case and they begin to collide as the body count rises. Naturally it wouodn't be truly Coventry if he didn't have a string of females at his beck and call but maybe Ja'Von will be different and the start of a long romance. No matter how it plays out, Hansen contines to be the best. I can't wait for "Immortal Laws." I'm sure it will just as suspenseful as the others.

This is a collection of the first three books in Jim Michael Hansen's acclaimed "LAWS" series featuring Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry. All three books in this Volume 1 (Night Laws, Shadow Laws, Fatal Laws) are complete and unabridged. The "LAWS" books are standalone thrillers that can be read in any order.

NIGHT LAWS
Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry is on the hunt for a vicious killer who has warned attorney Kelly Parks, Esq., that she is on his murder list. Something from the beaugiful young lawyer's past has come back to haunt her, something involving the dark secrets of Denver's largest law firm. With the elusive killer ever one step away, Kelly Parks frantically searches for answers, not only to save her life but also to find out whether she unwittingly participated in a murder herself.

SHADOW LAWS
Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry and beautiful young attorney Taylor Sutton are separately hunting a killer but for very different reasons. As the two dangerous chases inadvertently intersect, both of the hunters get pulled deeper and deeper into an edgy world of shifting truths where there is more at stake than either could have imagined, nothing is as it seems and time is running out.

FATAL LAWS
When several women are found buried in shallow graves near one another, each murdered in a brutally different way, Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry finds himself pulled into the edgy world of Tianca Holland--a woman involved enough to be a prime suspect, vulnerable enough to be the next victim, and beautiful enough to be more than just a distraction.

1-0 out of 5 stars SHAMEFULL
I have found several books from both R.J. Jagger and Jim Michael Hansen wich are EXACTLY the same, with just a few character name changes. Of course it cost me as I bought two before realizing that they were one in the same. I used to think publishers were shameless when they would change a cover or title and re-release a novel but this is actually worse! In case you are wondering, the Jagger book is titled, "Pretty Little Lawyer."

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Crime Thriller
I'm really impressed with the first book in the series and I'll be reading more of them. This book is on par with the best authors in this category.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read
A few plot pot holes here and there and little too much mindless casual sex throughout by the good guys. Since it all began in a psych class, why didn't the investigation go there?..it was barely mentioned after the detectives decided it was the key. The action got a little frenetic at times with too many characters in trouble at the same time, but over all a good fast read. It's not exceptional or great but good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Holes in This Plot
I bought this book because I was looking for a new author and the reviewers seemed to be impressed.I must say that I was disappointed. The plot is full of some fairly serious holes, there was way too much discussion of coffee, and the correct spelling of "losing" is with one "o."Seriously, the story was OK but I hope Shadow Laws will be better.I'm only into the first 50 pages but it seems like more of the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hansen continues to write the best mystery thrillers.
You'll be glad to know that Bryson Coventry is at it again, only this time he has two bodies to contend with. This maniac doesn't just kill; he tortures and brutally murders them. As usual, Coventry gets involved with one of the suspects, Tianca. Bless his heart, he just can't help it.
One of the victims is a close friend of Haley Wilde, a lawyer with the ink still wet on her diploma but she's determined to find the killer and almost gets killed in the process. The solution is totally unexpected and that's just what you get when you read one of Hansen's books. ... Read more

The three books in this Volume 2 (Deadly Laws, Bangkok Laws, Immortal Laws) are complete and unabridged. The "LAWS" books are standalone thrillers that can be read in any order.

DEADLY LAWS
Third-year law student Kayla Beck receives a chilling telephone call. A stranger has chosen her to be the rescuer of a woman he has abducted. Kayla can either attempt to rescue the victim and possibly save her life or she can ignore the call and never be bothered again. If she disregards the call, however, no one else will get a similar opportunity. The woman will die. What happens next catapults both Kayla and Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry into a deadly world where the FBI has been hunting unsuccessfully for years; a world of unknown boundaries and dangers; a world where, in the end, the only hope of getting out is to go all the way in.

BANGKOK LAWS
As Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry finds himself entangled in the collateral damage of a killer who uses the entire world as his playground, newly-licensed attorney Paige Alexander lands her very first case--a case that could posibly destroy the most powerful law firm in the world; a case involving a deadly, high-stakes international conspiracy of terrible proportions; a case that started in Bangkok but will not end there.

IMMORTAL LAWS
In this modern-day thriller born of ancient and deadly obsessions, Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry finds himself thrust into his most bizarre, terrifying and time-sensitive case yet. As he hunts the killer of a young woman who was murdered with a wooden stake through her heart as if she was a vampire, Coventry finds his life increasingly intertwined with a mysterious and hypnotic Jamaican woman. Meanwhile, beautiful young blues singer Heather Vaughn learns that she has been targeted for death. She frantically searches for answers, not only to save her life but also to find out whether dormant genes from an ancient bloodline are awakening inside her.

PRAISE FOR FATAL LAWS

"Denver homicide detective Bryson Covenry senses something different about his current case involving the murders of four young women. Part of the difference is that one of the suspects, a mysterious woman named Tianca, is getting under Coventry's skin in the most inappropriate of ways. Another difference is the mixed message being sent by the victims. Are they victims of a serial killer, as it first appears, but if so, why were they all killed in different ways. Baffled, Coventry and steadfast colleague Shalifa Netherwood grind their way through the evidence. Meanwhile, a young law associate who had once worked with one of the victims inadvertently involves herself with the investigation, possibly to her own peril. At times, Hansen ladles on the sex and violence with a bit of heavy hand, but he builds suspense effectively, and his hero is both likable and multidimensional. A too-little-known hard-boiled series that deserves attention."

"Expect the unexpected. That is the best advice I can give before sending you to a bookstore to purchase Jim Hansen's superb suspense novels. FATAL LAWS is the third novel in the author's Bryson Coventry series; perhaps it is the best of the bunch so far and that's not an easy feat to manage. It is not unusual for an author to reach a "sophomore slump" after one or two stunning novels, Jim Michael Hansen proves that he is in a whole other class! FATAL LAWS is amazing!"
--ROUNDTABLE REVIEWS

"Jim Michael Hansen has amazingly kept each book fresh and invigorating. Like the other two, I was taken on a roller coaster ride to solve Coventry’s case, but this one grabbed me faster than the other two did. The familiar characters that I was re-introduced too, were just as intriguing, funny and smart as they were the first time I met them. his book gets the reader to run from page to page the way the detective runs from clue to clue. But be prepared…the last twist at the end even had me shaking my head!"
-- IN THE LIBRARY REVIEWS

"Attention thriller fans. A tale with lots of suspense. Chills will creep up and down your spine as you read. A cleverly plotted tale that will keep you guessing and looking over your shoulder. With many subplots skillfully woven and kept moving forward until they merge, author Jim Michael Hansen will keep you glued to the pages. A very well-told tale that is guaranteed to satisfy any thriller or suspense fan. You'll be looking for his other books, Night Laws and Shadow Laws. Beware strangers offering you money, don't accept rides or drinks from them and enjoy the story. I sure did."
--NEW MYSTERY READER MAGAZINE

"Another well-written combination police procedural and attorney book that keeps ratcheting up the ante. Definitely recommended."
--BOOKBITCH REVIEWS

"The author brings his career as a trial lawyer into play to lend high credibility to the details of the legal profession and the police and forensics work. His stories are rich with plausible actions and motives, which he hides well to the very end. This particular novel’s ending will slap you upside your head with a two by four, it’s so unusual."

I bought these as a gift for my grandmother who is a huge fan of some author I can never remember the name of...so as I was searching for his stuff these came up and the reviews claimed to be better than what I was looking for originally. She's read all 4 I purchased and is begging me to find more. The best part was that they are signed copies - nothing I was expecting! This was a great buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fatal Laws, reviewed by author/reviewer Jeannine Van Eperen
Bryson Coventry, a detective with Denver homicide, is a flawed individual. Not only does he have one blue eye and one green, he lets himself become involved with Tianca Holland, a beautiful bi-sexual who may or may not have killed her female lover, Angela. However, when three other bodies are found in close proximity to Angela's body, it appears less likely that Tianca had anything to do with Angela's murder. Haley Wilde is just out of law school and brand new at a large, prestigious legal firm. On her first day there, September 5, she finds out that a woman who had befriended her when she worked as an intern the year before has been missing since April. When she hears that two bodies have been discovered and the women had been missing since April, Haley is certain that her friend was probably murdered too. She begins to search for clues at the legal firm that might lead to her friend's killer. She contacts Bryson and feeds him information. Jack Degan's business is securing women for men to kill, and then cleaning up after their male killers. Jack makes good money but begins to wonder if his profession is worth everything he has to put up with, when things start to go sour. Degan begins to yearn for his Malibu ocean home, and begins to think of taking Gretchen, a prostitute he met and has grown fond of, with him as soon as his next job is finished. Bryson Coventry and his female sidekick, Shalifa, work diligently, trying to find a solution as bodies keep turning up. Tianca also keeps turning up the heat in her relationship with the handsome detective as he tries to unravel the mysterious killings.

FATAL LAWS is quite the page-turner. Action comes fast and furious and one is left guessing until the very end...but don't read the end first and spoil things. This is a very gritty detective novel and not for the squeamish, but if you have the stomach for it, FATAL LAWS is a "can't put down book". What I liked about the book is that the characters, though very busy, do have time to take potty breaks, eat and get some sleep. One criticism I have is that the author often uses "me and so-and-so" instead of "so-and-so and I". This use of grammar is acceptable for speaking with friends or from someone with little education, but I think most educated, high-power lawyers would use correct grammar when talking to the police. (I could be wrong). Jim Michael Hansen has written a fast-paced mystery with a surprise ending. The characters are well-drawn characters, some with fatal flaws. I think that FATAL LAWS is geared more for the male reader than female; however, I have friends that like gritty, edgy, gory stories, and enjoy reading about the seamy side of life. Go for it, you might find you are one of them.

4-0 out of 5 stars This guy CAN write!
Fatal Laws is the third thriller in Law series.

Hansen is an author with a publishing dream. He is determined to write thrillers without the 'necessary' help from agents or New York publishers. Hansen is showing the publishing world that with a sizzling book and a good marketing plan, viable titles can be written and sold--and a fan following can be achieved.

When a body is found in a shallow grave, Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry, 'catches' the case. During the initial investigation, Coventry finds another body buried not far from the first. A new attorney, Haley Wilde, is quietly investigating the disappearance of a friend. On a hunch, she visits the burial scene of Coventry's case where two more bodies are unearthed.

One of the women who died is linked to the wealthy and beautiful Tianca Holland, who becomes a suspect. Coventry is more than a little attracted to Tianca and as usual, he becomes caught up in her life.

Coventry is a womanizer, but you love him anyway as his heart is always with the victims--and solving the crime is foremost in his mind.

The body count is rising and Coventry and his partner Shalifa Netherwood's investigation of the murders intersect with attorney Wilde's. The race is on to find the brutal killer and prevent more deaths. No one is really who you think they are--and the appetites and secrets of some of Denver's most visible citizens are more than dangerous--especially when they are aided by people without any moral compass.

Hansen has become one of my favorite thriller authors. His writing is crisp and clean and his plots are scintillating. After reading a Law series novel, I find myself checking the doors and windows to make sure they're locked, and I am always on the lookout for a maniacal killer who might be stalking me.

Hansen leaves us with a big question in this novel, and I'm hoping for the answer in an upcoming book. If not, it will be a big disappointment. I can't wait for the next Law book.

Armchair Interviews says: If you want your thrillers to be exciting, entertaining and gritty, the Law series is what the doctor ordered.

5-0 out of 5 stars A chilling thrilling police procedural
Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry is working what appears to be a serial killer case as corpses appear in shallow graves. However, the problem with this theory is that each person died differently; serial killer typically uses the same MO.

His investigation leads Bryson to the avaricious Degan. This affluent man apparently chooses the victim, whom the predator kills. The case also brings him to Tianca Holland, a woman of interest to him not just because of her ties to the dead.Still none of what he finds makes sense to Bryson as it goes against what is known about serial killers and his desire for Tianca.Yet to have multiple murderers burying their victims in easy to find shallow graves makes less sense than Tianca being a killer, associate, or next victim and where Degan fits is even more complicated as nothing adds up except that Bryson believes somehow this man is being compensated.

The latest Brysan "law" tale is an exciting police procedural in which the sum of the murders add up to be greater than the individual killings.Brysan is at his best trying to determine whether a serial killer or multiple killers are the murderers while also struggling with Tianca whose seductiveness has his blood flow entirely to his lower head.Fans of the the series will enjoy his latest thriller while newcomers will seek previous Coventry investigations (See NIGHT LAWS and SHADOW LAWS).

VOODOO LAWS
As Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry frantically searches for a missing woman and is pulled deeper and deeper into an edgy world of voodooism and death curses, beautiful young attorney Mackenzie Lee takes on a terrifying case—a case born of shadowy origins; a case prone to shift with the night; a case that is destined to sweep everyone who touches it into the spiraling vortex of a deadly thriller.

ANCIENT LAWS
Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry tracks a killer to Paris, expecting a dangerous but straightforward hunt. What he doesn't foresee is that he and a beautiful French detective would be pulled into a deadly game--a game that would stretch from Paris to Cairo to the Valley of the kings; a game rooted in ancient tombs, archeological murders and lost treasures; a game that started thousands of years ago but is not over yet.

WILD LAWS
In a frantic chase unsanctioned by both his chief and by Japanese authorities, Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry hunts the streets of Tokyo for an unstoppable killer whose wake of terror has cut across three continents and is now entering Japan. As Coventry desperately tries to stop the next kill before it happens, he and a young Tokyo woman find themselves pulled deeper and deeper into a deadly world.

"Wild Laws is creative and captivating. It features bold characters, witty dialogue, exotic locations, and non-stop action. The pacing is spot-on, a solid combination of intrigue, suspense, and eroticism. A first-rate thriller, this book is damnably hard to put down. It’s a tremendous read."
--FOREWORD REVIEWS (Wild Laws)

"Bryson Coventry never follows orders, but this time it might cost him his job as a Denver homicide detective. Unsolved murders prey at Coventry’s psyche, and when an on-the-loose killer taunts him with plans for his next kill, Coventry has do so something, especially since he ignored the first warning with dire consequences. His unlicensed pursuit of the killer takes Coventry across three continents and, as series fans have come to expect, into the arms of numerous exotic women along the way. How can one Colorado detective track down a vicious murderer among tens of millions of people in Tokyo? It’s easy, when Coventry makes himself the target. Left back home to worry about him is his protegé, the lovely Shalifa Netherwood, and though Coventry hasn’t given in to the temptation to sleep with her (yet), the sexual tension between the two mounts to a fevered pitch. Hansen writes in an over-the-top, near-campy style, but he has fun with it, and readers who go along for the wild ride will, too."

Product Description

5-0 out of 5 stars Now THIS is a thriller
I didn't expect the text of Blond Run to live up to the cover image. Boy, was I wrong. This is an incredibly fast-paced thriller built with ever-multiplying lawyers of twists and mystery, set in an erotic and atmospherically charged San Francisco. The protagonist, homicide detective Trane Ravenwood, is edgy and vulnerable at the same time, and so real that he pops off the page. He meets his match in his latest lust effort, Trance St. Croix, a lovely lawyer with a mysterious past. In Blond Run, the author sets Ravenwood in a plot that shakes both him, and the reader, to the core. The ending totally blew me away. I give this book my highest recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ravenwood is every bit as good as Coventry
Bryson Coventry, the Denver detective who stars in Jim Michael Hansen's LAWS books, is one of the most compelling, multi-dimensional and interesting protagonists inhabiting today's thriller landscape. So, it was with some trepidation that I delved into Hansen's new RUN series where Coventry would be noticably absent. The protagonist of this new series is San Francisco homicide detective Trane Ravenwood who, thankfully, is every bit as engaging as Coventry and posibly even more so. Ravenwood--at six-four, long black hair and 1/4 Apache blood--is edgier and darker than Coventry. We discover this in the first chapter where Ravenwood illegally sneaks into a suspect's house looking for evidence, which is something that Coventry wouldn't do in a hundred years. Of course, as is his style and trademark, Hansen sets Ravenwood in a whiplashed plot that moves at a relentless speed. All I can say is Hansen's new RUN series is incredible and highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding author
I always look forward to the release of a new Laws book...it is amazing to me that not only did I manage to find an author I enjoy so much, but one that also manages to publish books at a very fast pace :) The books in this series are firmly on my keeper shelf, right next to John Sandford's Prey series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Voodoo Laws - The 7th Bryson Coventry Thriller
Voodoo Laws is the 7th "Laws" thriller featuring Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry. Each of the LAWS books is independent of the others. They can be read in any other. Other books in the series include Night Laws, Shadow Laws, Fatal Laws, Deadly Laws, Bangkok Laws, Immortal Laws, Ancient Laws and Hong Kong Laws.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent police procedural
Denver police homicide detective Bryson Coventry leads the official investigation into the murder of affluent lawyer Ryan Ripley in a sleazy part of town known for cheap street hookers; inside his home is found a voodoo doll with a needle through an eye.Soon afterward, someone fires a shot at either Coventry or his girlfriend Ta'Venza Oceana while they sit in his 1967 Corvette; outraged that the bullet destroyed his window, he curses the miscreant who would harm a car like his, vowing justice.

Meanwhile attorney Mackenzie Lee has a new client, Erin Asher, who claims the prime suspect in another homicide and the abduction of Lindsay Vail could not have committed either of those crimes as she is his alibi. She asserts she has seen the accused stalk her.Coventry assigns detective Coyote to conduct surveillance on Mackenzie while a second murder tied to voodoo occurs at Ripley's law firm.

Soon the seemingly separate cases tie together with Coventry being cursed by a practitioner who employs VOODOO LAWS.The merged trails lead him to New Orleans and its voodoo shops.

The latest Coventry "Laws" police procedural is a terrific entry that has all the magic of the previous six and more. This time the hero is voodoo death cursed as he struggles to connect the dots that seem unrelated.Fans will enjoy this superb entry especially when the missing links are found in Denver and refreshingly New Orleans; as the hero is forced out of the Mile High City by the direction of the investigation. As always the audience needs to drink coffee with this fun tale in which a cursed Coventry curses those who could harm a classic car.

Harriet Klausner

4-0 out of 5 stars Voodoo Laws

Is voodoo real? Can it actually cause people to suffer or die from a curse laid on by a priestess like Ida Wrisp when she cursed Bryson Coventry? The question is why she was doing this. Was someone she knew harmed by him?

Bryson Coventry, head of Denver's homicide unit, had a new murder to contend with--a dead attorney, found in an alley. And he finds voodoo creeping into his case and death seems to follow him from city to city as he seeks answers.

Talented author Jim Michael Hansen has created another story to keep the chills crawling up your spine as you join Coventry in another case. And, yes, he's in lust again with an intriguing young woman who catches his eye from the first time they meet.

This isn't a tale for the squeamish.Lots of action and lots of fun characters to meet. You'll remember Coventry as an old friend with a slight case of never quite meeting the right gal. Could this new lady be just right for him?

And if you don't believe in voodoo, you might begin to wonder as you read.Mystery and chills aplenty as Bryson hunts and is hunted.A story to satisfy all thriller fans.Highly recommended to readers who like new and interesting plots and characters.Enjoy.I sure did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Winner
VOODOO LAWS by Jim Hansen: (03/09) Do you read mysteries for the characters or for the plot?Coffee drinking serial womanizing Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry is back with all his quirks and talents. He is frantically searching for a missing woman after finding the second member of a local law firm dead with implications of voodooism and death curses. At the same time local attorney and budding author Mackenzie Lee has her own challenge. Her newest client, Erin Asher, is convinced that she was being stalked.A man who looked like a pirate followed her during an evening of in downtown on Saturday. The same man is apparently the primary suspect in one of Coventry's murder cases that occurred across town at the same time.Lee's client is the suspect's alibi, but if Lee allows her to come forward, will they be clearing the man from one murder so that he can commit a different one - that of Asher. Then there is the missing woman and the fact the Coventry has had a voodoo death curse placed on him.Oh, did I mention that Lee formerly worked with the same law firm as the two victims that are the object of Coventry's efforts? How are they all interconnected?Bottom line - great characters in a wild plot that somehow all comes together. The Laws series just keeps getting better and better. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A tremendous read
Shadow Laws is riveting and captivating. It features bold characters (especially Taylor Sutton), witty dialogue and non-stop action. The pacing is spot-on, a solid combination of intrigue, suspense, and eroticism. A first-rate thriller, this book is damnably hard to put down. It's a tremendous read

2-0 out of 5 stars Two names-same book
This Author has released this same book, with minor name and location changes under the name RJ Jagger.
In fact, all of "RJ Jagger"'s books appear to be the "Laws" books.
The author blog picture for both authors is also identical.
Books are formulaic and only OK with a protagionist who never ages a day, and continues to say the same thing in every book:
I have been fortunate to have been able to read samples on Kindle while only actually buying one book.
There is a dim Shadow of Mickey Spillane here, but for the most part, it seems that the books are fantasy fullfillment for the
author.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special Here
This novel presented a pretty good story, but nothing you won't get from a 1,000 other suspense novels out there. This story for me, though, was disappointing because of its obsession with sex and drinking. Every page had someone having sex, thinking about sex, or getting drunk out of their minds and then having sex or thinking about sex. It became annoying and distracted from the story. Someone is running around Denver, Colorado killing people every few days and the all the characters in the book have as their first priority is sex and drinking. That is probably more like the real world than not, but makes for a less enjoyable read. Interestingly, I think most of the reviews here are by the author or publisher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignorance of the Law is No Defense
If you like sex, suspense, fun characters and roller-coaster plots, then you're going to love Jim Michael Hansen's "Shadow Laws."

I discovered this book while perusing the shelves at my local library.I read the first page and was hooked--it's that kind of book, where it's really tough to put it down.

Mr. Hansen allows the reader to follow the mystery through the eyes and actions of multiple characters. This is not a simple police procedural told in first person.Hansen employs multiple characters and parallel stories to move the plot forward. For example, the attorney Taylor Sutton; this character is so well developed and fun that she deserves her own novel(s).Denver homicide detective Bryson Coventry is the central character. He gets lucky with the ladies like James Bond but isn't nearly as suave.Coventry knows this, though, and it helps make him a likable person.Bryson loves women, and his thoughts and actions in the novel prove this.

The novel's antagonist is serial killer Nathan Wickersham.I've read a ton of detective mysteries. One great thing about this book is that the reader gets to spend a lot of time with the antagonist.Often a killer is revealed at the end of a novel, but Mr. Hansen allows the reader to "get to know" the character. We watch as the evil Wickersham also helps move the plot forward.

As I said, this is no simple first person narrative.

This was a great read.

Please pardon me; I need to put my order in for the other "Law" novels.

1-0 out of 5 stars Could have been good
This book has an interesting story for the readers but the author has nothing on his mind except endless sex and drinking bouts. He really should stop writing mysteries and go to the steamy sex romance side of authorship. Here are lawyers and detectives, male and female and the first thoughts, their seemingly only thoughts are about getting "drunk and laid" and I am quoting the author. Catching killers and crime investigation seem to annoy them and get in the way of their sex lives. This might appeal to some people but I'm not one of them. The plot and story could have been a good mystery but it is really the authors take on his idea of a wonderful world filled with gorgeous females and hunky men having a tremendous amount of sex. It becomes rather boring. His first book wasn't as bad, but this book is just ridiculous. If you like books with endless sex scenes, this is for you. If not, skip it. ... Read more

The new guidebook seeks to promote expository preaching and has a chapter by Mac Brunson on expository preaching. Dr. Kirksey's book goes into great detail how to do that kind of preaching. It is a must for every pastor's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book On Preaching
Dr. Kirksey's book, "Sound Biblical Preaching: Giving The Bible A Voice," is one of the finest books on preaching I have ever read. It is a must read for the newly called preacher, for the man in the midst of ministry and for the seasoned man of God who has preached for many years. I have been preaching God's Word for 39 years and I can say without equivocation that I wish this book had been available when I began my ministry. Get this book - it will renew your calling, enhance your ministry and help to enflame your preaching!

4-0 out of 5 stars Biblical Preaching and Church Planting
" Dr. Franklin Kirksey has given the pastoral ministry a great gift in his book Sound Biblical Preaching. As a church planter and a mentor to church planters, I believe this book will help every church planter to a call to biblical preaching in such a way that will lay the foundations for the future of the new church. Dr. Kirksey has given an anthology of preaching and preachers that will be invaluable to every student of preaching. This fresh reminder of the call to ministry, and the committment to expository preaching and teaching is invaluable to the foundations of a new church. May we see the day as biblical preaching, God-called visionary leadership, sound growth principles, and just hard work will raise up millions of new churches who see their calling as world mission strategy centers, every Christian leader as a mission strategist, and every believer a kingdom mission agent in the marketplace. I believe that Sound Biblical Preaching will be a valuable contribution to see this new day a reality."

Product Description
In this brilliant and hilarious reportage, critically acclaimed journalist and author, Simon Worrall, goes undercover at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Following the trail of a single document through the intestines of the UN's bloated bureaucracy, he finds himself inside a bizarre society worthy of Gulliver's Travels, where committees exist for no purpose; tons of documents no one will ever read are shipped across the seas at vast expense; and ancient typewriters no one will use are kept in working order. On the way, we meet a bemused rookie delegate from Lithuania named Kis-Kis and a Haitian poet, who rages against the waste and bureaucracy as his country suffers. The result is a gem of a piece that will have you crying and cursing all at once. ... Read more
