Product Description

Deepak Chopra considers the mystery of our existence and its significance in our eternal quest for happiness. Who am I? Where did I come from? Where do I go when I die? Chopra draws upon the ancient philosophy of Vedanta and the findings of modern science to help us understand and experience our true nature, which is a field of pure consciousness.

When we understand our true nature, we begin to live from the source of true happiness, which is not mere happiness for this or that reason, but true inner joy. When we know who we are, we allow the universe to flow through us with effortless ease, and our lives are infused with power, freedom, and grace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book...one of my favorite Chopra reads.
I originally borrowed this from the library, but it was so good I had to own a copy myself.

3-0 out of 5 stars not a good as other books
hmmm, maybe I should get the down to earth version of this one, chapter after chapter he seems to be under a higher doze of something, and the worst thing about it is it does not seem to be written at the same time, I mean it is not a whole book.It is like a feast of scraps that does not match together

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
I reached a point in my life where I realized I was missing something. Spirituality, religion, direction -- I can't exactly say. But there was something, some emptiness that I needed to get to the bottom of what was wrong. Whether or not you believe that synchronicity happens, or that paths reveal themselves -- this book came to me, or vice versa. I have to say it's a combination of things that makes it powerful. First of all, it is Deepak's confidence that draws you in. Then you start to really understand and follow his philosophy and it just becomes reality right there on the page. I will read this book over and over because it has become a part of my worldview, part of my belief system. I cannot recommend enough. I am tempted to give it to people from time to time, as I believe it the power that lies within.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Book!
Power, Freedom and Grace is a powerful book. My eyes were open to a new way of thinking, new way I see my self-image and a new way of life. I love this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Depak Book!
Depak's Power, Freedom and Grace, is my favorite of all of his books. It is a lovely book to hold, read and savor. (I have the hardback edition.)Depak boils down the essentials of why we suffer as humans, and why we need not, if we live from the true source of happiness. He captures the grace of just being in life, and helps his reader understand the source from where this grace wells up, when we become awareness and let it flow. ... On this enlightening CD, Gregg Braden and Deepak Chopra explore the similarities between three seemingly different philosophies: quantum physics, Vedanta, and Judeo-Christian teachings revealed by the Dead Sea Scrolls. After listening to this program, you’ll surely reach the same conclusions that Chopra and Braden did: All great religions are "part of the perennial philosophies of humanity." ... Read more

I felt like I walked in late to a class.I think they divided a seminar up into different cds. They discuss things from prior seminar, as if you already heard it.I listened to it twice because I thought maybe I missed something. There was some good information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking
An Ancient Magical Prayer:Insights from the Dead Sea Scrolls is a live speech that Gregg Braden gave at Deepak Chopra's 'Seduction of the Spirit' retreat.Who is this speech for?Whether you are of a specific religion, none at all or spiritual in nature, you'll find something interesting and applicable to your life.

Gregg talks about how the Dead Sea Scrolls in particular the Isaiah Scroll, and how it sheds light on how we have the powerful ability to create our lives. This message was lost thousands of years ago, but has now been found and is just beginning to be understood - not only by scientists and philosophers like Gregg, but by everyone. That's the power in his message - each individual has within him the power to awaken the possibilities of his life using these techniques and teachings.

I guess you could say this is the way the Law of Attraction should be approached - internally. With so much hype and misunderstanding of what the Law of Attraction really is, Gregg's teachings are needed now more that ever. What you want is already created...learn how to see the physical result in your life.

Delivered with Gregg's usual insightful knowledge of his subject and passionate style of speech, this audio program is a must have for any spiritual, quantum physics or law of attraction library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deepak Chopra & Gregg Braden in Ancient Magical Prayer
I loved listening to both Deepak and Gregg. Gregg is one of my favourite writers and speakers and his well researched ideology of Ancient philosophies is very relatable and intriguing. It is amazing how his scientific understandings come together with the writings of Chris Thomas who writes from Akashic records.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
This book is absolutely stunning in it's beauty and artistry. Not overly sexual, Cosmo magazine would not have any interest in it. Could be set out as a coffee table book. Also, has good advice on relationships.

5-0 out of 5 stars Connecting Spirituality and Sexuality Together
An excellent read, linking sexuality and spirituality together. It also portrays how lifting the shame, that in society, we have been reared with, can potentially be achieved. Also, I loved the artwork throughout the book as well. In my opinion, the artwork added depth to the book. It is a book I could see myself reading again, and I am not usually someone who reads a book twice! I would highly recommend this book

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Book Deepak Chopra has ever written
This is the worst book Deepak Chopra has ever written. I don't even think that this book is written by Deepak.

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally, an Indian Kama Sutra!
There are some Indians who look down on authors who choose to retell classical works of Indian literature--in particular, works seen as 'Hindu' in content. Perhaps it's a colonial hangover--the old 'British knew best' attitude that continues to plague the English-speaking urban elite even today. But speaking for the growing number of people like myself who hunger to rediscover the richness of our heritage and past, I can honestly say that our interest in the classics has nothing to do with things like Hindutva, Ram Mandir, and all that political claptrap! Just as one respects and loves one's mother and finds 'her story' fascinating--because her story is also our story--so one delves into 'history' as well.

Take Vatsayana's Kama Sutra for instance.

For over a century, our knowledge of our own classical literature has come mainly from translations and interpretations by British or European authors. From the 19th century translation by Sir Richard F. Burton down to the latest glossy coffee table book with glossy pictures of blonde couples contorting in uncomfortable postures, our experience of this classic work has come to us almost entirely from the west. And sad to say, that interpretation is almost always a biased one, no matter how cleverly repackaged and reinvented it may be, replete with subtle racial bias and overt Catholic guilt.

So it's with an element of hopefulness that one looks at this new edition, with original illustrations instead of the usual embarrassing pictures, and text by the one-man-new-age industry, Deepak Chopra.

And Chopra actually delivers. He brings an instinctive Indian understanding of the work that is missing from those endless versions by Western authors. His tone captures the eccentricities of Vatsayana's mischevious style perfectly, conveying that sense of wicked leela that permeates this evergreen classic. Unlike those ubiquitous foreign editions, there's no attempt here to market the KS as a pornographic sex manual. In fact, the sexual positions--most of which are impossibly gymnastic--are the least interesting part of the Kama Sutra. It's the insights into human relationships that made this a seminal work of our culture. When Chopra translates the passage about a husband dreaming of the celestial cow Kamdhenu with his estranged wife's face, and of the subsequent reunion of the couple, it's an unmistakably Indian moment: Which western male would consider viewing his spouse's face superimposed upon cattle as a spiritual revelation? Chopra uses simple, deftly chosen words and phrases, to convey the essential quirkiness of this moment, as well as the eroticism of the subsequent reunion.

This is all done at the Post-it note level of writing prose, mind you. Everything is reduced to byte-sized fragments, quotable quotes and pithy epithets. You could produce a couple of hundred greeting cards from this book--or a few dozen evocative love letters! But it's done with great sensitivity, skill and a holistic sense that balances the spiritual messages alongwith the erotic mischief.

In place of the typical blow-up pics, the book is illustrated with an excellent selection of stylishly provocative paintings. The style is modern and perfectly suited to the text. Refreshingly, there's no attempt to illustrate every single position. Instead, the paintings are tastefully erotic, subtly sensual. There is both male and female nudity in plenty--this is the Kama Sutra after all!--but it's gracefully displayed, with R-rated suggestiveness rather than X-rated explicitness.

Most of all, there's the sheer delight of seeing Indian bodies, Indian complexions, faces, features, details, that no western edition can ever match. Both illustrations and style capture the essential Indian spirit of this evergreen masterpiece with an economy and elegance that makes the book well worth possessing for any young couple.

To put it in sms-speak: The DC KS rocks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fresh New Version of the Classic
With this latest book the well-loved and popular mind-body guru Deepak Chopra lends his take on the spiritual messages of this ancient text to craft a modern interpretation of the Kama Sutra; one very well suited to the Western mind.

Fans of the Chopra distillation method (conversion of any universal truth to seven behavioral steps) will embrace his latest effort with rapturous glee. This would be an excellent gift for a couple, a lover, or anyone interested in a consideration of the meaning and import of sexuality and spiritual evolution.

It's beautifully written in a conversational style that invites exploration and reflection, yet preserves the overall sacredness of the content. As well, it's stunningly illustrated with new artwork by - ironic in this case - the Virgin Illustration Studios along with a number of individual artists including Gotham Chopra. At first I rather missed the classical illustrations with their occasionally improbable postures and attitudes, but this faded as I warmed to the beauty of the recently commissioned modern art.

The text is divided into three sections, and links the concepts of spirituality and sexuality through discussions of pleasure and how this relates to shame, life goals, passion, and other emotions and concepts.None of the archaic prejudices are removed, yet the reader is gently reminded that while the modern mind may differ, we should look for the underlying lesson in these texts, and observe how we have evolved and how much further we have to go as a sentient species. As the author writes: " any given paragraph can be wise, cynical, ribald, witty, fantastic, irreverent, manipulative, and clinical by turns".And yes, gentle reader, there are the classic descriptions of the positions for intercourse.

But it's not all serious. Some of the pages are humorous in modern context, such as the page defining "Easy Women", which includes listings such as "an actor's wife" and "older women". This section and those similar in attitude ( "Advice for Seducers")should have book clubs cackling with fresh discussion.

Buy it. Revel in it. Play with it.Learn from it.

Product Description

Dr. Deepak Chopra takes a scientific approach to spirituality in this mini version of the enormously inspiring New York Times bestseller, proposing that the human brain is hardwired to know God. The internationally renowned author proposes seven biological responses of the human nervous system that correspond to levels of divine experience. With insight into the human longing for connection with a higher being, this book speaks profoundly to readers of every faith.
Amazon.com Review
God is not a person or a thing but rather a process, according to world-renowned author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra. The purpose of this ambitious book is to assure readers that anyone can engage in this process--"it isn't a matter of faith, religious teaching, innate goodness, luck or some other mysterious factor," Chopra explains. "Our brains are hardwired to find God." This hardwiring is deftly explored as Chopra lists the seven ways humans know God and how they correspond to the anatomy of our human brains. He devotes a chapter to each of the seven visions of God: "Protector," "Almighty," "God of Peace," "Redeemer," "Creator," "God of Miracles," and "Pure Being--I am." In every chapter he asks and answers the same questions for the readers: "Who am I?" "How do I fit in?" "How do I find God?" The format works well, helping to tame this broad discussion while also illuminating the different personality types that are attracted to these seven different visions.

Fortunately, Chopra is a gifted narrator, able to make human anatomy and quantum physics understandable while also keeping spiritual and metaphysical discussions grounded. As he drifts through the cloudy realms of ESP, telepathy, clairvoyance, miracles, obedience, loyalty, evil, ego, addictions, and mentors, readers can trust that there is a competent pilot at the helm, deftly guiding this excellent book. Plan to take some time with this one. It is perhaps his best yet and as such deserves a slow and steady commitment. --Gail Hudson ... Read more

As usual Deepak Chopra has a wonderful way of sharing his wealth of knowledge in a clear and concise format.Short and Sweet - very uplifting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Educational Material.
BY "ALBERT C. BENDER", AUTHOR of "YOU ARE FOREVER IN TIME"...This book clearly ampliefied for me, this authors knowledge and Intellect on the subject he has written...It provides information that truly moves to the core of the subject matter that the author speaks about...It is well written and thought-provoking throughtout...I recommend this book highly to those who's interest lie within this subject on God...The only exception I see that I wasn't able to extract from this book is this. The author, I believe, and I may be wrong, is that he has God as being seperate from us? I believe GOD is us.

5-0 out of 5 stars "What we are is God's gift to us"
"What we become is our gift to God"

The program is worth viewing. However as usual it pales compared to the book. There is lots of glitz, sound bites and half stated thoughts. If you read the book before hand or already have an innate understanding of the subject then this film makes a great supplement however it is not organized enough to get anyone off the ground and is no place to start or finish.

This presentation in its attempt to simplify and be entertaining will be misleading to those people that think watching this presentation will give them anymore than a superficial introduction.

However Deepak is quite impressive and you will get much more from "God and Buddha - A Dialogue" (1999)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but little information
The audio cd was interesting but had many references to books and programs with only short explanations and insights on the topics.More information about Judith Orloff personally while interesting, left little time for the topic at depth. Good as an introduction but light.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good intro to Deepak & Judith
This CD is a good intro to Deepak Chopra & Judith Orloff. If you have already read their books or listened to them then this is not very useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Power of Intuition
This CD got me really interested in Intuition healing and I really enjoyed the conversation with Deepak and Judith Orloff. Very easy to listen to.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Rishi to today's disciplines
It's funny that while attendance in more formal religions and churches seems to decline, an undeniable movement grows towards mankind's seeking some sort of answer, or path -- much like has been done for thousands and thousands of years.

Chopra points out in his endlessley entertaining and educating style the fact that a) world religions are all telling the same exact story underneath the veil of politics and power, and b) the path we seek was being taught 1000 years before Christ walked in Palestine or Muhamed entered the cave with the angel. But the message is the same -- find yourself and you'll find more joy and happiness than any organization or ritual could ever provide. God-- or whatever you need or want to name him/her/it/them is alive in all of us -- and is our consciousness, for that matter. We're toys that the power that made this universe created for entertainment and growth, and we should do it while we have the chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely and Easy to listen to.
This CD set is a lovely and wonderful CD to listen to.It was fun and informative.

I enjoyed that this was a lecture from the past and it has the spontaneity, humor, and feeling of being right there with them in the moment.

It was a CD that I would recommend to anyone on the spiritual journey and looking for information that is grounded and sound in its perspecitve.

Enjoy it.I know that you will. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars power of mind to addiction
Another nice book with greate examples of origins of addiction and how we can control it. It is painful to look at the ill effects of addiction not only in us and in out loved ones. but this book completely changed the perspective.

1-0 out of 5 stars Where is the spiritual Solution?
I can not recommend this book to someone that is trying to overcome an addiction.I could not find where the spiritual solution was in this book.Meditation, yoga...sure I would recommend these to anyone, but they are not a solution. What I did find in this book was the definition of what the author believed an addiction to be.There are some really good books out there on addiction and this is not one of them.In my opinion, look for books that give you information on how to get to your inner child.Books with information on expressing suppressed emotions.

1-0 out of 5 stars Addiction Lite
Read the recommendations on the cover carefully. They are ALL for the author, NOT the book. There are good reasons the book is not recommended. It is not based upon research or even extensive personal experience with addicts. It is simply some off the cuff remarks by a famous person who does not understand addiction. I agree spirituality is the cornerstone of recovery and joy is needed, but it is not as simple as the author implies. His emphasis on psychoanalytic understanding of addiction is very outdated and has not led effective treatment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overcoming Destructive Addictions
I would highly recommend this book, to any one who is going for the first time to overcome addictions. For me I have found out with this book that you can diminish greatly or completely eliminate addictions if you read it carefully, in detail and follow what Deepak Chopra is saying. Like I mentioned before it is the first step to recovery.I know that they are a lot of negative addictions out there like illegal drugs, alcohol, tobbacco, gambling and to much sex like a sex addict can also destoy lives. So if you really do want to take the first step to recovery I would recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why this book is effective
I found this book to be enormously helpful. Unlike several reveiwers who didn't find a step-by-step approach,"Overcoming Addictions" seemed very clear in terms of actions to take. I've used the techniques and viewpoints expressed in the book and found it THE most helpful and effective approach to overcoming addictions I've seen yet.The problem is that you have to actually read the book and get the idea, instead of looking for lists of what to do. He treats you as an adult with a sound inner core. His view is that an addicted person is essentially trying to find joy and a degree of enlightenment. He honors the reader by saying that "using" is simply a misguided but understandable attempt to find union with the already existing inner child, the wise and joyful person who already exists. He explains the karmic cycle in clear terms and advises how to insert images, memories and real experiences into the cycle of addiction to supplant the old habit with new, positive ways to cope with life. His is a message of hope. It is not a method which punishes, negates or brands you with a label of "addict" for the rest of your life. This book, if read mindfully, can clear a way to a far happier life.As to specific techniques, he provides tips for yoga poses, food programs, questions to ask yourself and other advice. He advises mediation and gives several specific ways to use meditation and breathing exercises to increase mindfullness. His is a message of hope and positive action based on an understanding, very human and highly validating view of the addicted person. ... Read more

Product Description
People around the world are increasingly working with their own bodies to restore balance. They're using medicinals found in nature to avoid the side effects of antibiotics and turning to traditions that have passed the test of time. The oldest medical system of all is Ayurveda, which dates back 5,000 years to its origins in India. In The Chopra Center Herbal Handbook, Deepak Chopra, M.D., and David Simon, M.D., draw on the forty most important herbs of Ayurveda, from aloe and amrit kalash to ginger and winter cherry, to create a practical, popular reference book that shows how to strengthen immunity, rejuvenate the body, boost energy, and detoxify the system.

Each listing in The Chopra Center Herbal Handbook contains botanical information, scientific research, instructions on using the herb, a line drawing, precautions, and most important, the specific ailments each herb is best suited to remedy, including those involving digestion, mind and emotions, women's and men's health matters, metabolism, pain, arthritis and inflammation, circulation, and many more.Amazon.com Review
Not in opposition to, but (surprisingly) in conjunction with impressiveadvances in the medical sciences, growing numbers of people are seekinggentle botanical methods for treating illnesses. Coauthors David Simon,M.D., and Deepak Chopra, M.D., attribute this "herbal renaissance" to ourthriving information age and the resulting self-empowered "patients" whoaren't nearly so patient as they once were. In celebration of thisintegrated healing approach, one that involves treating the mind and spiritas well as the body, Simon and Chopra fully describe the 40 most frequentlyherbs used in their Chopra Center for Well Being in La Jolla,California.

Simon and Chopra's approach draws heavily on Ayurveda, India's ancientmedical system that honors the dynamic exchange of energy between humansand the entire universe. They discuss their holistic approach to healing, provide a self-guided test to assess current health, and offer insights ontreating problems related to digestion, emotion, metabolism, energy, andmore. These thoughts easily carry over into the second part of the book, the herb guide. Simple pencil drawings of each leafy specimen accentuatethe written details: scientific research substantiating the herb's healingproperties, ancient and modern uses, current available forms, doses, andwise precautions. Along with such practical information, the authors offeran Ayurvedic perspective, briefly outlining each herb's effects on pitta(metabolism/"fire"), kapha (structure/"earth"), and vata (motion/"wind"). Throughout the book, the two authors beautifully interweave fact, anecdote, and analogy to make for an informative, delightful collection. --Liane Thomas ... Read more

... In reading the book and then applying the principles of yoga to my own everyday life, not only deepened my yoga practice, but actually deepened my everyday exepriences and the way I choose to be in the world. 5-0 out of 5 stars Master Inner Well Being, Master Thoughts, Master Body, Master Life, Master Health, Master Inner Spirit
Deepak Chopra's Classic, "Magical Mind, Magical Body," can assist you in fine-tuning how it is that you think, the "spirit within," which takes expressive form through either positive expression and action, or negative expression and reaction. Dr. Chopra assists one to see with the inner eye, how to simply change how it is that one thinks about how it is that one will see what is better for one's individual being. When one changes ones perspective, one's mind, body, and environment "magically," change. Dr. Chopra presents one of the greatest and oldest metaphysical secrets about how it is that one can truly, personally, embrace the magic of changing what one eats to change one's body. One can change one's values to embrace a higher standard of being and one's life, body and environment "magically," change through this type of subtle transformative "personal magic within." Our individual constitution can be magically changed by choosing to simply think differently about every aspect of our lives, that is what Dr. Chopra shows through his steps for personal, magical transformation.

1-0 out of 5 stars All about finical gain?!?
This book was very disheartening for me. I have read most of Chopra's books and this was the worst. I am buddhist and used to respect him highly as a teacher and spiritual guide. However after reading this book, my illusions were found to be wrong. In this book he speaks of karmic nature giving us monetary gifts in return of good behavior."...you will never feel guilty, or insecure about money, or affluence, or fullfilling desires, because you will realize that the essence of all material wealth is life energy." In this book he fully contradicts everything he pretends to represent.I was very saddened to read this book.It is hard to find out a person you trust as a spiritual guide, in all acuality only cares about money and material goods.Sounds more like bad karma to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Deprak Chopra at his typical level of enlightenment and abundance lite!
I bought this DVD collection for a friend who requested it. A bit simplistic about enlightenment, happiness and abundance. But maybe all those things are simple. Repeats his basic principles in a pleasant, hypnotic voice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple but powerful book of principles to live by
"The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success: A Practical Guide To The Fulfillment Of Your Dreams" by Deepak Chopra is a short and simple book, but also one that is also profound and enjoyable as a guide filled with timeless wisdom and practical steps you can apply to create more success in all areas of your life.It is based on his longer book, "Creating Affluence."

Chopra begins by saying these are also the laws of life, and that they are the same principles that nature uses to create everything in material existence. He then defines success as the continued expansion of happiness and the progressive realization of worthy goals. He says success is the ability to fulfill your desires with effortless ease.He then briefly describes the concept of laws. After these definitions, he proceeds to go over the seven spiritual laws of success and how you can apply them in our lives.

Each of the chapters begins with a couple of sentences regarding the law. Then there is a quote related to the concept. Then there are a number of pages explaining the law. Finally, each chapter ends with some steps for applying the law.

The first law is of pure potentiality and is based on pure consciousness, which is found through practicing silence, meditation, and non-judgment.The second law is the law of giving. He notes that it could also be called the law of giving and receiving, because the two complete a dynamic exchange, and the more you give, the more you receive. You practice by giving and being grateful for all you receive. The third is the law of Karma, or cause and effect. This refers to action and the consequence of that action. You learn to make choices and recognize the consequences of the choices you make. The fourth law is of least effort, and as Chopra explains, the law is based on the fact that nature's intelligence functions with effortless ease and abandoned carefreeness. To practice this law you practice acceptance, responsibility, and defenselessness.Law five is that of intention and desire. This chapter helps you understand your desires and relinquish your attachment to the outcome. The sixth law is of detachment.According to Chopra, to acquire anything in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it.The seventh, and final, law is that of Dharma or purpose in life. This chapter focuses on our unique talents and how we express it.It's about our true self, our unique talents, and service to humanity. The book then has a short conclusion that brings everything together.

Even though the book deals with complex topics, it is written in a very easy to understand manner. The book is short and can be read quickly, but will have a more profound impact if savored slowly. One should take some time to understand how the laws can be applied to one's life through the suggestions at the end of each chapter.

This simple book really does share some powerful principles to live by and help you create a more satisfying life.I've just read it again for a reminder of what's important, and to help ground me toward living at a congruent level.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Modern Classic of Perennial Wisdom
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success is a tour de force, a spiritual masterpiece. It is not, however, for everybody.Do not let its slimness or big print fool you: this is a deep, profound book.It requires an informed reader, someone capable of grasping such pearls of wisdom.I see that there are numerous reviews giving it only one star, and the authors of most of them seem to have an axe to grind against Mr. Chopra, as though he were the subject of the "review" and not the book itself.I am reading this book now for the third time, and working my way through it.For this really is a workbook, a book to be slowly read, meditated on, and its methods PRACTICED.If one simply reads it like any other book, like a mystery novel, say, then it will be just so many good ideas - in one ear, out the other, utterly useless.Or, in the case of the many uninformed readers, or readers who do not have sufficient spiritual knowledge to appreciate this book, one will just see it as jibberish.ANY book, from great classics such as Tolstoy's War and Peace to Marx's Kapital, will be found by SOME readers to be worthless, silly, etc. This is not because the book IS those qualities but because certain readers simply lack the proper preparation for the book.It is like a kindergartener trying to understand theoretical physics.Nonetheless, this book can be read and understood best by someone with an understanding of Eastern philosophy, as well as someone who has read books on pop psychology such as the classic, Psycho-Cybernetics.This book is easily understandable by someone with a high school education and some basic background in spiritual/metaphysical studies. But do yourself a favor: read this book with a journal.Read a chapter per day and consciously try to put into practice the advice.Record the results in your journal.Live this book, or it is just so much intellectual decoration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Puts immaterial into words
The heart is holistic, contextual and intuitive, Chopra MD argues. He is right. Intention is transformation of energy and information. His unique way of expressing the Seven Laws was informative and easy to use. Seven laws include : Potentiality, Giving, Karma (Cause and Effect), Least effort, Intention and Desire, Detachment, and Dharma (True purpose).
I believe the book is worth the money. At the time is was written, his ideas and these conceptions were cutting edge in Self awareness/Universalist (someone who believes in all paths and respects the differences in others) movement. This is an ideal I follow and I realize it is tough as it asks you to accept all and judge noone including yourself. I recommend this to spiritual people and people desiring to see how they can work with Energy/thought and affirmation to create desired outcomes. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Rambling nonsense
Here's the short of it:A demented old coot named Merlin torments his young protege, then pretends his craziness has a message behind it.The only problem is that the message is just as crazy.

This is fine within the context of the fantasy of the legend of King Arthur.Wizards have full reign of the supernatural in fictional accounts. What troubles me is that Chopra attempts to wrangle these fantastical musings into real life lessons. It's one thing to use parable, but Chopra mistakenly thinks that the life of a magical immortal can be translated to our experience. It cannot, or at least not in the way that Chopra attempts.

It's hard to explain HOW this book fails because every one of its twenty lessons is so convoluted that it fails to pull any sense from the original conversations between Merlin and Arthur. Each lesson is followed by a section called "Understanding the lesson" so that, even though the lesson itself makes absolutely no sense, you'll at least get an explanation.Unfortunately for the reader, the explanation generally starts with the same nonsense and then meanders on its own course until Chopra seemingly runs out of words.

For example, Lesson 1 states that everything you'll ever learn should be encompassed in the first lesson. But then then when Chopra takes over in the "Understanding the lesson" section and starts talking about Merlin's ability to see worlds within worlds, that he doesn't experience happiness or sadness, pleasure & pain, richness & poorness, and that mortals are obsessed with appearances. And this is just the beginning!

Chopra really lets his crazy sweater unravel on this book, trying desparately to link the illogical rantings of a fictional wizard to real life crises and spiritual goals.Perhaps these twenty "lessons" are meaningful to him, but instead of making himself understood to the reader he alienates himself from everyone but those whose minds are as convoluted.I won't go as far as to call this book "fluff" because it's far too insane for that. No, I believe that this work is personally significant to the author. It's just that he won't let us in on the significance.Perhaps there IS some sense to be torn from the mumblings of Merlin, but it won't be found anywhere in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars another good book from Chopra
Most people don't consider themselves creative. We seem to separate ourselves from the word creative, reserving it for musicians, poets, or other artists.

But we have created everything in our lives and it is either beneficial
or detrimental to us, only we can know.

To create the life you want is really about increasing your satisfaction level. But we must first increase our awareness.
What is the satisfaction level of your daily activities?

3-0 out of 5 stars So, so
Love Chopra, but this one seemed to work too hard to tell the truth. I felt the effort opposed to the inspiration. As always good stuff, but he has better.

2-0 out of 5 stars Want to love it, but it doesn't hang together
Chopra frustrates me. This is the second book of his that I've read, and both books (this one, and /The Book of Secrets/) frustrate me because Chopra is clearly an intelligent, insightful, and compassionate man; yet so far he has failed to impress me in his ability to impart his understanding in a coherent way.

/The Way of the Wizard/ has a structure of "lessons", and each lesson is divided into four parts: a group of pithy slogans to ponder, an illustrative prose story featuring Merlin and Arthur, a section on what the lesson means, and a final part on how to incorporate the lesson into your life on a practical level. That's the theory, anyway. Ultimately, most lessons appear to have rather random stuff shoved into those four sections. These various pieces, at best, hang together only loosely. At worst, entire chapters -- I mean, "lessons" -- make no sense whatsoever.

My most frequent reaction to a given paragraph or lesson is -- WHY? Why is he telling me this? How on earth is this relevant to me and my life? Despite what you'd think from the way each lesson is organized, there is in fact very little advice on practical ways to embody the "way of the wizard." Telling me that Merlin lives backward in time is funny to think about; telling me that I give birth to the universe by gazing out at it is a beautiful idea. But WHY?

Again, it frustrates me. I *want* to like this book. Chopra strikes me as an intelligent and well-intentioned man. There *are* a handful of spiritual gems scattered throughout this book. But they are only that -- a handful. Deepak Chopra would have been better off taking these few chewy morsels of food-for-thought and putting them into a small, pocket book of quotes. That would serve the reader much better and much more coherently than /Wizard/.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Way of the Wizard
I enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and contained valuable information for those seeking to advance spiritualy.

Thank you,
Dennis J. Manning

5-0 out of 5 stars Another good read by Chopra
I recommend this book to people that have cleared away some of the barriers in their life. I say this because you first have to become aware of what needs to be changed. This is the start of finding your true self or true character. When you start on this path you will start to realize how natural and good it feels.

Little do people know that to find themselves, their search will take them
back to a place where only there, they can recreate their lives and only then,
will they realize all this time it's only been a distraction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Journey into Heaven
I have owned this product for years. When I saw it was still being sold on cassette, I snapped up a second copy, as mine is worn out.It is an abridged version of Chopra's book, read by him, interspersed with lovely music.I have a chronic pain disorder and find this tape endlessly relaxing.I often fall asleep listening to it.The content is encouraging and helpful. There is a short section on basic meditation techniques...very easy to follow with no practice at all, and no strange positions. I have listened to other Deepak Chopra books and find them confusing and not much fun.But this one is an hour long and well organized and I think it is fascinating.I highly recommend this tape to anyone who needs to relax, is dealing with physical or emotional pain, or has trouble falling asleep. In other words, I recommend it to everyone. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF DR CHOPRA'S BEST CD'S EVER! IT WORKS FOR ME!
First let me say that I have this audio book on cassette, CD and also a hardback book. I am that impressed with it. What this CD is all about:
1) It is like Dr. Chopra is standing next to you and comforting you.
2) He speaks of ways that the body within will heal you and how to concetrate on healing and then the healing will come to you (or you will begin to feel better).
3) Dr. Chopra speaks so soothingly that I really enjoy this.
4) This is a SUPERB CD to listen to when you are ill or stressed out. I personally listen to it when I have a bad cold, flu, or a headache, etc.
I started with the cassette version of this in 2003. So impressed with the cassette version, that I ordered this in the CD version. (Prefer the CD's to cassettes). In my opinion, ALL of Deepak Chopra's CD's are wonderful. I own over 12 of the CD's and all of the cassettes that Dr. Chopra has ever written. Since 1995, I have listened to Dr. Chopra's audio books and have read 6 of his books as well. All of them I still own and refer to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awakening To Higher and Healing Truths
I've had this program on Audio Tape for many years and always thought it was wonderful. It is filled with wonderful music, thoughtful, sincere narration by Deepak and is filled with many insights that can help one remember truths about ourselves.

While I will be the first to admit that I don't take everything Deepak Chopra says at face value. Often I feel he is an excellent "compiler" of ideas but not necessarily very spiritually evolved himself (which he has implied himself on programs I have). He is not only excellent at compiling but he is very adept at bridging the ancient with the modern, the sages with the Quantum physicists in a way that anyone can understand. For this alone I think he deserves deep praise.

I've used this program to help me reconnect with my true self and go within, to remind myself of deeper aspects of myself and those around me.

It's a nice transition to use for meditation as well, especially if you're stressed and need to be eased in gently. Of course I'd recommend doing Yoga for that purpose as well or even playing this tape while doing gentle poses to help create an atmosphere of centeredness while reminding one of these truths.

Highly recommended!

Your own body's inner wisdom holds the secret of perfect health, teaches Deepak Chopra, M.D.

"On the molecular and cellular levels, the body that you had four years ago no longer exists," teaches Dr. Deepak Chopra. "It has been entirely replaced, atom by atom." Given this fact, could it be that the core of who you are -- and your health -- lies beyond the material body?

THE NEW PHYSICS OF HEALING invites you to consider an astonishing possibility, now being demonstrated in the fields of physics and modern medicine: that we are composed of a rapidly changing field of pure information that sustains and influences our physical health.

Is it possible to access this "river of intelligent energy," first described in India's ayurvedic medical tradition more than 5,000 years ago? How do specific emotions influence your biochemistry and your health? Can your imagination affect the course of an illness? How do you break through the ingrained belief patterns to discover your true healing potential? On this updated edition of THE NEW PHYSICS OF HEALING, Dr. Chopra offers a fascinating exploration of these and many other questions. Product Description

Readers are given valuable tools to alter their perception of the aging process and to maintain youthful vitality, beauty, and creativity in this discussion of the aspects of aging that are by no means inevitable. Studies in quantum physics by scientists such as Bohr, Einstein, and Heisenberg have led Chopra to the conclusion that physical aging can be controlled through alteration of thought patterns. Because age depends on an individual's consciousness, and any person can use their mental power to transform their body's chemistry, the past and the future become mere mental projections from which any person can liberate himself.

Product Description

Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne —New York Times bestselling authors and internationally acclaimed teachers—have joined together to share their knowledge on one of the most crucial obstacles to happiness we face—the shadow. These three luminaries, each with a signature approach, bring to light the parts of ourselves we deny but that still direct our life. For it is only when we embrace our shadow that we discover the gifts of our authentic nature.

The shadow exists within all of us. It is a part of us and yet we spend most of our life running from it. But far from being scary, our dark side holds the promise of a better, more fulfilling life. Our shadow makes itself known every day. It is the reason we get furious over a friend showing up ten minutes late, yell at our parents or kids when they have done nothing wrong, and sabotage our own success at the worst possible time. Until we are able to embrace our dualistic nature, we will continue to hurt ourselves and those closest to us and fall short of our potential.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deeply We Are One
This book spoke deeply to me to my own personal struggles and those mirrored to me in the world. The anger and abuse and the victimized are all inside each one of us; keeping us focused on the negative; away from our own light. The deeply insane moments of our lives, and those displayed each night on the news, are explained by the persistent shadow we try to ignore or cover up.

The experiences that overwhelmed us emotionally as children left us believing lies about ourselves that drive us to deny our true essence. The shadow thus created dogs us internally and relentlessly toward our bad habits; eventually killing us.It is our own light power that we fear.

3-0 out of 5 stars Smoke and Mirrors
What you see is not what you get. At least for most of us. What we project in public and in private can be snuffed out in a second by our dark side -- the mine from which our complete self emerges. Until we come to terms with our shadow we risk being hit broadside by a train run amok coming in from our blind side! Its worth knowing this because for me it answered the question why bad things happen to good people!!!

What you see is sometimes not what you get. What you get is what you don't see!

3-0 out of 5 stars For newbies to self-development
There is a helpful survey at the END of the book that helps you determine to what degree your "shadow" may be interferring with your life in a negative way.I think it should have been at the beginning. When I did the survey (at the end), it turns out that my shadow is either A. not repressed to any great degree or B. repressed, but not interferring with my life in a negative way.

This would have been good to know when before I started reading.Especially since all the way through the book I was trying desperately to relate.Desperately...I wanted to buy into it.

I think this is a great intro book for someone who's life is going terribly wrong and for someone who hasn't done much "self-help" or work on themselves.I think this would have been a great book for me in my early 20's.

I don't believe it's a great book for someone who has done a lot of work on themselves and their lives already, and who is really just looking for a way to further expand their already pretty great (and easy-going) life.

I was looking to take it up a notch, but didn't find anything new here.

It is good material, though.Although I think the presentation is a little confusing.Like 3 mini-books in one. But, all 3 authors have a thoughtful perspective and write well.

There are other books out on this exact subject which are equal (that are perhaps less well-marketed than this one).

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, good purchasing experience
I ordered this book for a friend... it came before the ETA and in great shape.Thank you, Amazon.com!

Amazon.com Review
Written as an easily accessible plan based on his Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, Deepak Chopra's Grow Younger, Live Longer presents many of the same quantum-based theories of aging as simply a matter of changing your perception. But here, you'll find the format greatly simplified into 10 short chapters, each with a single focus. Each step is fairly basic and combines visualization and breathing exercises with the behavior modifications we've come to expect when we try to get healthier, such as more exercise, balanced eating, avoidance of toxins, and regular sleep. Clear diagrams are included as necessary, such as with his yoga stretches and breathing exercises, and tables have been provided for a quick glance at some recommendations for vitamins. A handful of internationally inspired vegetarian recipes is tucked in the back and are a fun way to introduce some unusual flavors to your meals.

A regular complaint about Chopra's books is the lack of clear data to back up his claims, and this has not changed. He provides numerous anecdotal accounts of folks ridding themselves of cancer, AIDS, or high blood pressure. For many lay readers, these anecdotes provide enough encouragement to try Chopra's program and improve their outlook on life; medical professionals may just be annoyed. Lack of research aside, it's hard to argue with the suggestions. From "connecting more openly with your coworkers" to "always use sunscreen when you are outdoors" and "drink plenty of fresh water throughout the day," the majority of Chopra's methods seem based in common sense, with his "Quantum Realm" as the seasoning that adds a little exciting flavor to a very basic recipe. --Jill Lightner ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a must read for anyone who wants to reverse the aging process
Deepak gives excellent and easy to follow instructions for anyone who wants toreverse the aging process. Initially, I picked-up the cd's from the library and after listening to the 5 cd set I just had to purchase the book. If you want to learn meditation, the necessary and proper exercises, yoga, the right foods to eat, etc. its all in this book. The main focus of all the ten steps presented is focused on Growing Younger, Living a Longer "and Healthy life."

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing and Calming Ideas
"If you have the expectations that you can grow younger and live longer, this will be your experience." ~ pg. 19

After reading "Grow Younger, Live Longer" I had the desire to go looking for sandalwood soap and took out my Kama Sutra massage oils to give my husband a back massage. This book will inspire you to live a little more sensuously and mindfully. Although I must say that the idea about meditating before you eat your dinner may be a little unrealistic if you are the one preparing your dinner. I find meditation is best after doing yoga in the evening.

Deepak Chopra and David Simon do not state that you will never age or completely reverse aging but describe how you can reset your Biostat (biological age). That just means you will be up to fifteen years younger than your chronological age. Simple things are suggested like taking supplements, drinking more water or developing an exercise routine. There are a few instructions for doing yoga but I'd advise you to rent some yoga DVDs from Neflix (or buy some here at amazon) which will give you a far more realistic experience. I think if you are new to yoga a good instructor is vital to your success.

"Toxic emotions are often the most harmful accelerators of the aging process. Commit to releasing them from your heart and mind." ~ pg. 158

While reading this excellent book I was made aware of some things I really needed to hear. I liked the sections on present-moment awareness, breaking habitual patterns and forgiveness.

Deepak Chopra and David Simon have created a very healing, nurturing book that seems to lull you into a sense of security and peace. From this new state of awareness you are then inspired to try out a few of the ideas presented and to make lasting changes in your life.

Don't be surprised if you read this book and suddenly have the urge to go walk on a beach or to try out some Ayurvedic beauty care items. We all know stress accelerates aging so why not spend the evening with a good book in bed. I found this book to be calming and informative and I'm glad I finally read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars What is the mind body connection?
You are like an architect who changes his building plan. When you change your perception of aging you also change your behavior. The mind rules when it comes to aging.Ideas presented about eliminating emotional toxins are priceless.Being flexible and open to new experiences is crucial according to those that have lived a long life. Both ancient practices and the wise use of supplemental nutrition are discussed.Once you know how harmful some practices are you begin to change. You start to let go of the past and look forward. After dinner, I used to take a nap.No mas.Instead, I take the ten-minute walk on the treadmill, as suggested; in addition to my daily 30 minute walk outside.I find nightly sleep more relaxing.Rising with the sun is exhilarating. You can develop your own stretches and salute to the sun, or follow the recommendations in the book.Taking a few moments during the day to meditate seems to enhance creative ideas.Oh yes.Mind and body integration is an essential part of growing old. This book is both inspirational and a practical guide for future reference.People often say you are what you eat. After this book, I now believe you are what your thoughts and perceptions lead you to do. After all, that is what people see.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
Waste of time, waste of money.Any valuable information from Deepak Chopra is in his original book "Perfect Health" and it is slim pickings at that. Every other book he has written since "Perfect Health" is a watered down re-hash of the same material.Don't bother with this book, or any of his others. You'd be better off with an all around nutrition book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grow younger, live longer
I had the opportunity to hear the CD before purshase the book but I want to go overthe meditation steps and for my surprise, the book comes with a fantastic number of recipes that guide you to change your eating habits.... This is a fantastic book like many others from Chopra. ... Read more

The introduction I read was amazing and was the reason I purchased the book. But after reading it I was a bit disappointed it seemed to lack the "magical" aspect I was looking forward to.Pretty basic info for a healthy pregnancy none the less.
