Product Description
Whenever there"s trouble on Detective Doggedly"s beat, that low-down, no-good, chicken-chasing, pig-poaching Big Bad Wolf is always the prime suspect. But when the three little pigs" house is huffed and puffed into a pile of straw and only a sheep named Esmeralda is found at the scene of the crime, Doggedly has a new mystery to solve: Where"s the Big Bad Wolf? With the help of some wise elderly cows who live in a home across the road, Doggedly sniffs out the clues. But can he catch the culprit before the three little pigs get gobbled up? Here"s a new wrinkle on the classic tale, enlivened by Eileen Christelow"s fast-paced narrative style and her drolly comic illustrations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect picture book
I used this for my 3rd grade class when we studied mysteries and drawing inferences. I also used this with my grandchildren, 2nd and 4th grade. They loved it. There is a cute, cute story, but the pictures and are what really give the clues. There are so many spins on the Three Little Pigs story (I have them all) but this one is very unique. You will want it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious book for kids and adults
This is one book that even a parent will find funny as the kids do!The cassette tape that goes with it is especially funny.Loved it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Requires an accent to read
In zesty small town spirit this book tells the whodunnit mystery involving three pigs getting bad advice from a mysterious sheep, some badgering old cows, and a detective dog who works as the narrator. As one can probably guess, this is yet another angle on the whole Three Little Pigs story, and yet it manages to be its own plot altogether, what with poor detective Doggedly spending his nights watching the pigs' place for signs of suspicious activity.

It's hilarious, fresh, and amazingly complex as a mystery that keeps itself secretive even as it dishes out the rather obvious clues--making it a good read for kids. The writing is incredible and demands to be read aloud with a bit of twang in the voice (really, it makes it that much more fun.)

Brilliant take on an old fairy tale.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful adaptation of the classic tale!
My sons (ages 7 and 5) absolutely love this book.Esmerelda is a wolf in sheep's clothing who tries to convince the gullible pigs to build ever-flimsier homes ("Build a cardboard house! It's so much easier").Detective Phineas T. Doggedly finally tracks down the BBW (Big Bad Wolf) with the help of the elderly cows who live nearby. It's a great book with captivating illustrations and characters. So far as we're concerned, it ranks right up there with Steven Kellogg's "Three Little Pigs" and "The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig".Definitely a classic -- I'm really surprised that no one has reviewed it before. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My Son Loves it
The Five Little Monkeys books are classics. My wife and I bought four of them and our boy loves them. This one is amusing because the five little monkeys decide to tease an crocodile. Don't worry, no harm befalls the little monkeys. It's good for a young child who is learning to read and the artwork is well done. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree
I've been purchasing the "Five Little Monkeys" series for my grandchildren, and they love them! They especially like for me to read to them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another classic kid's rhyme :)
Most people know the one about monkeys jumping on the bed (also a book), but this rhyme is about as old. Surprised? Yeah, you're not alone :)

In the original, the monkeys are definitely eaten. In this version, not so much. (Also, this version cuts down some of my favorite lines from the original rhyme.) Because the monkeys aren't eaten, people who are worried about more sensitive children will probably be okay with this book :) Bright illustrations, bouncy classic rhyme, cute story. Gotta love it :)

5-0 out of 5 stars My 3 year old loves this!
My 3 year old loves me to read this to him. He asks me to read this almost everyday. This is a fun book to read.

3-0 out of 5 stars K-I-S-S-I-N-G! ...oh, wait, wrong rhyme...
Eileen Christelow, Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree (Clarion, 1991)

Amusing, if lightweight, little book that undercuts its message in hopes of becoming a series. (It did, and an exceptionally popular one, at that.) A good one for reading to the kids if you like playing it up; this one would definitely be better sung than simply read. ***

Product Description

The five little monkeys and Mama are eager to get a new car. The five little monkeys clean and paint their old car until it sparkles like new. But who will buy it? Perhaps those clever monkeys can convince their cranky crocodile neighbors that what they really need is . . . yes, a car! Children will love predicting how the five little monkeys will deal with each new challenge, making this a perfect story for interactive reading. Lively verse and Eileen Christelow's inimitably comic illustrations put the five little monkeys in the driver's seat in more ways than one.
Amazon.com Review
The five little monkeys and their mama have had it with their"rickety, rattletrap wreck of a car." It's time to sell this old heap.Mama makes a "For Sale" sign and goes inside. But her ever-helpfulchildren worry that the car is too icky, sticky, and slimy, and takematters into their own industrious hands. "I know!" says one littlemonkey. And next thing they know, they're washing and scrubbing thefilthy jalopy. Now it's clean, but still rusty and stinky. The monkeysponder. "I know!" says one little monkey. Soon the car is painted andperfumed within an inch of its life. Unfortunately, it's not visibleto potential buyers. "I know!" says one little monkey. With all thesecollective brainstorms, it's not long before the sparkly clean, psychedelically colorful car has landed in the swamp, with the fivechagrined little monkeys inside, and a gaggle of crocodiles lurkingnearby, licking their chops. How will they ever get themselves out ofthis mess, and sell the car, to boot? "I know!" says one littlemonkey...

These five are no strangers to silly predicaments and clever solutions,as evidenced in Eileen Christelow's four other entertaining picturebooks about the quintet, including Five Little Monkeys Jumping onthe Bed and FiveLittle Monkeys Sitting in a Tree. (Ages 3 to 7) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My boy loves it!
The Five Little Monkeys books are classics. My wife and I bought four of them and our boy and he loves them. In this edition, the mother is tired of the junky family car and decides to sell it. Her five little bundles of joy decide to spiff it up to sell it. They have a run in with the crocodiles again but all ends up well in the end. It's good for a young child who is learning to read and the artwork is well done. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars good book
If your child likes the "5 little monkeys", this is a good book. It rhymes and has a funny ending. I would recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The first original story in the series breaks out.
Eileen Christelow, Five Little Monkeys Wash the Car (Clarion, 2000)

I always knew that when Eileen Christelow got away from straight nursery-rhyme retellings these Five Little Monkeys books were going to get good. This one confirms my suspicions quite nicely, as Christelow comes up with a fun plot and adds it to the usual zany antics of the monkey children. Mom wants to sell their rattletrap old car, but it looks a mess, so the kids decide to wash it. And, of course, washing it isn't quite enough, so they go farther and farther until things become entirely absurd, as they always do in Five Little Monkey-land. That is, of course, just how we like them. A fun entry in a fun series. *** ½

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and amusing story
This book can stand on its own, but I like to read it after the"great pig escape."The children practice recall and retelling of the first story as the prelude to reading The Great Pig Search.Again, the children can "outsmart" the leading man because as he is looking all over for the pigs, the children can see the pigs "right there".This is a very popular book in my class of 4 and 5 year olds.It is great fun for me to read also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Find Those Pigs.....
"The trouble started the day Bert and Ethel's pigs escaped from the back of their truck.Right after that, people all over town started missing clothes.Everyone searched everywhere. No clothes. No pigs."Soon a postcard arrived from Florida with the word 'OINK'.It was embarrassing, everyone joking about Bert and Ethel's runaway, postcard writing pigs. What they needed, Bert decided was to get away from it all, and take a nice vacation to someplace special, warm and fun, like Florida. He bought two bus tickets, and those two pig farmers were soon on their way.....Eileen Christelow is back with another charming and amusing missing pig tale that's sure to have kids squealing with pleasure. Her simple and entertaining story line is enhanced with expressive and hilarious illustrations, and little ones will enjoy poring over the pages and finding all the disguised pigs in the most unusual places.Perfect for youngsters 4-8, The Great Pig Search is a rip roarin' comical adventure that's sure to tickle your funny bone each and everytime you open the book.

Product Description

When Zucchini was six weeks old, the rodent man put him' in a cage of his own, separating him from his mother. It was time for him to be independent.

But Zucchini feels trapped in his cage. There must be more to life, thinks the tiny ferret. He soon discovers he doesn't belong in a cage -- he belongs out in the open! So he decides to escape. He heads for the prairies, where his kind of animal belongs. It's not an easy journey, but Zucchini makes a good start, first taking the IRT subway, then switching to the crosstown bus. But a slight detour brings Zucchini to the Ninety-second Street ASPCA and another cage. Here, Zucchini meets Billy.

Billy loves animals, and he loves Zucchini especially. But Billy is shy, much too shy to show Zucchini how much he loves him. A misunderstanding makes Zucchini feel rejected and hurt. He runs away again and continues his trek toward the prairies.

Hopping a taxicab and an airplane, and hiking along the highway, Zucchini comes closer and closer to that place where he belongs. At last he must make a decision. The same courage that helped Zucchini to follow his dream of finding the prairies helps him in making this most important choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great review from the kids in Miss Vasell's class
The book, Zucchini, was an excellent book.Zucchini had a great personality. We liked the author's message that you should follow your dreams and have courage. We especially liked it when Miss Vasell cried at the ending. We also liked that Zucchini was very honest and went back and let out Arnold the Crow. This is a great book for reading group.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zucchini
A wonderful book. Even though some of the facts are wrong about ferrets in this book eg. fer's don't eat carrots, grain and don't befriend birds. Its is a wonderful story and it shows great character.

The second book (Zucchini out west) is more fact true and is more suspensful. A real page turner. It has a surprising twist at the end, and leaves the whole story open for a trio of Zucchini books ( three). I hope there is one, becuase i hate to make up my mind what would happen next.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book For All Ages!
I first read this book when I was about ten years old.Its sense of longing for love and belonging not just in Zucchini, but in the boy Billyas well makes this book a perfect companion for all of us who have at onetime or another been a lonely, scared child in a big scary world. The bondbetween the ferret and the boy is quite touching, and will warm even thecoldest heart.

The only problem with this book is Ms. Dana'smisinformation about ferret diet (try feeding a ferret a carrot!), but thatby no means takes away from the quality of this story. This is one ofthose rare children's books that will find its way into your heart as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars A touching story about a ferret and self discovery
While Barbara Dana gets a large number of ferret facts wrong in this book, Zucchini is still a delightful tale of two soul mates: Zucchini the ferret and Billy, a boy. Both Billy and Zucchini are searching for something intheir lives, but neither knew it was each other. The sequel, Zucchini OutWest, is a better book both from the ferret fact and character developmentstandpoints.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!
I liked this book because I like animals, especially ferrets.A boy named Billy was asked one day to be in a animal class. The teacher asked the class to do a oral report on a animal. The teacher thought Billy wouldpick Zucchini, the ferret, but he didn't.When Zucchini heard this he ranaway. If you read this book you will find out if Billy finds Zucchini andtrys to keep him. ... Read more

Product Description
"A bouncy rhyme and delightful artwork bring this pumpkin fair to life. The young narrator is ecstatic to be at the local pumpkin fair, where pumpkins of every size are on display—and that"s not all! There"s pumpkin bowling, a pumpkin pull, and every sort of food you can imagine made from the orange stuff, from ice cream to stew. . . . Christelow"s good-natured watercolor-and-ink illustrations are filled with things to look at and laugh about, including a marching band in pumpkin suits. Keep this book around to read for autumn story hours—but you might want a piece of pumpkin pie when you"re done."—ALA Booklist

"Christelow"s jubilant illustrations in watercolor and pen and ink add to the general atmosphere of gaiety—everywhere readers look, families are interacting
happily and having fun. . . . Halloween is never mentioned, so the book could be used to celebrate the harvest season in general. Of course, it will also serve as a good non-scary Halloween story."—School Library Journal ... Read more

Thank you for a fast copy at a fair price.

5-0 out of 5 stars All things pumpkin
This book tells the story of a pumpkin fair or pumpkin fest. The rhyming text describes about all the events at the fair- -the pumpkin band, pumpkin bowling, and pumpkin meals. The book is quite fun, but some kids may be unnerved by the broken pumpkins at the pumpkin basketball hoop (and some parents may not like the pumpkin stew being termed gooey and not edible). The rhymes and easy to read font will make this book a delight for beginning readers. The book contains about 550 words.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pumpkins don't need bite or Halloween to be charming!
As a grower of giant pumpkins, I take exception to the professional review which dings this book for not having enough "bite" and (heavens!) not even mentioning Halloween.Pumpkins are fun and so is this book. There is something inherently charming about a small town pumpkin festival, and this one has a distinctly New England look to it that reminds me of when we used to live in New Hampshire. This celebration of a simple fruit, with fun for your pre-school and early grade school children is fun to read aloud, without succombing to the modern cultural prerequisite for a witch with a wart on nose. The writing does get a bit sing-song in places, but quite tolerable to my adult ear overall.Enjoy some good clean autumn fun and read this to your kids.God bless! ...
