5-0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece
Ever read something in Shakespeare and think, "Now what does THAT mean?" She's got the answer. Those little in-jokes are finally explained. "You are a fishmonger." If you think the glover's son from the boondocks wrote the Plays, you'd be in the dark forever as to what Hamlet meant. If you think that the Plays were written by the Earl of Oxford, the answer is plain as day. And so on. A play-by-play exegesis of unexplainable passages; it's as if the Earl himself is explaining "what he meant."

I bought this book from the publisher, via the Shakespeare-Oxford Society. I don't think I paid as much; seek them out.

This book should be in every library in creation. And your personal one. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Contrary Miss Cranville
Miss Phillipa Cranville- known to all as Pippa-was surely the most obstinate, willful, maddeningly intractable young beauty ever to set the tongues of society to wagging. She flung herself into the arms of the exquisitely elegant, handsome, and charming Mr Sidney Otway, whom her guardian, Sir Anthony Seymour-Croft, warned her to stay away from. What was Sir Anthony to do with this headstrong heiress who insisted on placing her heart and honor in fearful jeopardy? One thing at least he knew: he must not fall in love with her.

Wasn't crazy about this book. It was good enough however just didn't catch my interest. ... Read more

Product Description
Gustave Courbet’s 1854 painting The Meeting (also known as Bonjour, Monsieur Courbet!) depicts his greatest patron, Alfred Bruyas (1821-1877), welcoming the artist to his hometown of Montpellier, in the south of France. As one of the foremost collectors of contemporary art in France, Bruyas’s tastes ranged from romanticism to realism, and he collected both traditional and what was then avant-garde art.

This beautifully illustrated book features ninety-four works from Bruyas’s celebrated collection, including nine masterpieces by Courbet as well as important paintings, drawings, and sculptures by such leading French artists of the period as Delacroix, Ingres, Géricault, Millet, Corot, Rousseau, and Barye. The accompanying texts examine Bruyas’s role as one of the few mid-nineteenth-century private collectors of contemporary art and the significance of his patronage of living artists as well as the well-known but little-scrutinized relationship between Bruyas and Courbet. A newly discovered critique of the renowned collection, written by the influential artist Paul Signac some twenty years after Bruyas’s death, is also presented.

Sarah Lees is assistant curator of paintings at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute.

This book is the catalogue for an exhibition organized by FRAME (French Regional and American Museum Exchange) on view at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond (March 26 to June 13, 2004), the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, Williamstown, Massachusetts (June 27 to September 6, 2004), the Dallas Museum of Art (October 17, 2004, to January 2, 2005) and to the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (January 22 to April 3, 2005).

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read when considering/implementing EJBs
This is a must read for everyone who either considers or is implementing EJB-based software. It is not a tutorial, it is the essence of experience, what to do and what not to do (or at least what to watch out for). In a team setting I would make this a mandatory reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Saved me much time
If you are already experienced EJB developer then you will appreciate the good wisdom and advice in this book. I found it is not a problem solving kind of book but a problem avoiding one. Read before you start your next project and like me you will save many hours of frustration.

I give 4 stars because some chapters are not as useful and overall the book could have better organization. But these are small points. Definitely you should read this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Get your Enterprise Architectto read this NOW!
As a consultant that's worked for a few big companies that are doing EJB Architecture, I'd like the Architect read this book. Then maybe they would put down the "golden hammer" (EntityBean) and pickup a useful tool. There is too much bangging around with those expensive hammers.

Good book - and I could relate to the adventure stories that open many chapters - I found them interesting and pointed!

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth your money
I was disappointed by Tate's "Bitter Java". But "Bitter EJB" is totally different story.
I would strongly suggest everyone read it also get "Expert One-on-One J2EE Design and
Development". These too books compensate each other very well. Both of them obviously
favor JDO over Entity Bean. Is JDO the future? still unsure:-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for the beginner
This is definitely a book for the advanced Java programmer looking to refine his understanding of the pitfalls of EJB, and more generally J2EE, development. I was tough on Bitter Java because of it's technical editing. This book is decidedly better in that department but I can't give it all five stars because the difference in tone between the chapters and between the authors is noticeable and somewhat distracting. In addition the anecdotes about white water remain and I think they are unnecessary. That being said, if you are a J2EE programmer, this is a required book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read which gives a very interesting depiction of Elvis's youth.
Not what I at first expected. It reminds me of the tales often featured in FOXFIRE books. It does a great job of giving the reader a glimpse at the small town environment that Elvis came from. I would highly recommend it. ... Read more
