Product Description
Data Networking is a capability that allows users to combine separate data bases, telecommunication systems, and specialised computer operations into a single integrated system, so that data communication can be handled as easily as voice messages. Data communications is the problem of getting information from one place to another reliably (secure both from channel disruptions and deliberate interference) while conforming to user requirements. IP (Internet protocol) is the central pillar of the Internet and was designed primarily for internetworking as being a simple protocol almost any network could carry.

The business world appears to increasingly revolve around data communications and the Internet and all modern data networks are based around either the Internet or at least around IP (Internet Protocol)-based networks. However, many people still remain baffled by multiprotocol networks - how do all the protocols fit together? How do I build a network? What sort of problems should I expect? This volume is intended not only for network designers and practitioners, who for too long have been baffled by the complex jargon of data networks, but also for the newcomer - eager to put the plethora of "protocols" into context.
After the initial boom the rate of IP development is now beginning to stabilise, making a standard textbook and reference book worthwhile with a longer shelf life. Highly illustrated and written in an accessible style this book is intended to provide a complete foundation textbook and reference of modern IP-based data networking - avoiding explanation of defunct principles that litter other books.

Network/IP engineers, Network operators, engineering managers and senior undergraduate students will all find this invaluable. ... Read more

Martin did a very good job in writingever-changing fields of both Networks and Telecommunications. The book covers a large variety of modern technologies, which usually encounter in Engineering and BusinessCoordination Planing. In addition, I appreciate on his writing style:concise and clear expression of concepts. It is a very good reference bookfor both Engineers and Managers. However, it is not suitable for studentsdue to lack of practice (simulated) problems, concluding remarks orsummaries. All in all, I would recommend this is a book that should be inthe bookshelves of Telecommunication Professionals. ... Read more

Product Description
This study opens up new avenues of inquiry into the work of Luis Cernuda. It analyses the representation of aesthetics, gender, and sexuality in his last four books of poetry by drawing on work in aesthetics, feminism, gay/lesbian studies, and psychoanalysis. The central concern is to examine the terms in which Cernuda represents particular identities, including the poet's identity, masculinity, femininity, and male homosexuality. The study explores Cernuda's creation of a collective mythology of freedom to change contemporary Spanish culture and examines his many-sided portrayal of gender, including the potential of women's identity to disrupt masculinity. It also discusses male homosexuality through the lenses of perversion and self-shattering. ... Read more

Well Miss Wahida I usually ride wit u but not on this one, I only felt one story, sad to say I was not impressed and to know that I waited for this to come out however, I'm still a fan

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Really Hood
"What's Really Hood" is a compilation of five short stories depicting hood life.

In the first story, `Black is Blue,' Victor L. Martin relates the story of Tyrone aka Polo, a thug vying for the love of Desiree, a legal assistant trying to make a better life for herself, which includes staying away from bad boys. She is involved with Lamar, Mr. Goody-Two-Shoes.Looks can be deceiving.

The second story is a tale of two people; Wiz, who is looking to come up in life selling drugs, and Crystal, an erudite girl who was on her way to college and the American dream but whose life is now heading for the dumps. As fate would have it, they meet.Like two cars in opposite lanes on the highway, Wiz and Crystal's lives were heading in opposite directions.Fate brought them together again, where Wiz took an interest in her and decided to help turn her life around, but another twist of fate sends them in yet another direction.

In the `Last Laugh' by Bonta, he reveals the nature of a person scorned.Bobo runs his section of Chicago administering brutal punishment to those who cross him.But can Bobo handle what he dishes out?

Jihad's `All for Nothing' is a tale of two friends who after committing a crime are able to evade the police.

In `Making Endz Meet,' Wahida Clark shows what greed will do to people. There are lessons to be learned.

This compilation as a whole was okay.Teague did a good job of showing the many twists and turns life can throw our way.Jihad's story was crafty. And Clark teaches to be satisfied with what you have. That said, there was nothing really impressive or outstanding about any of the stories. There were highs and lows, more lows and evens out to a just okay read.

An "ok" read. Some of the stories seemed a little far fetched like the writer was grasping to write a story. In my opinion, the best best stories were the first and last story. Hope if Wahida Clark decides to tag team a book again with other authors for short stories, watch who see picks to write with her!

Product Description
One of the foremost historians of Lewis and Clark, Ronda grounds Finding the West in the insights and reflections he has gleaned from some twenty years of research and writing about this pivotal era. But above all else, Ronda’s book is centered on stories and storytellers. As he writes: “This is a book about many storytellers. Their words are French-Canadian, Shoshone, New Hampshire English, Hidatsa, and Chinookan.” Ronda documents not only the stories that Meriwether Lewis and William Clark offered about their “road across the continent,” but also the large and important stories by and about the native peoples whose trails they followed and whose lands they described in their journals and reports and on their maps.

The beginning of the nineteenth century represents a time when America passed into a headlong rush for empire and when “the West” loomed large as a dream for some and a nightmare for others, an era that irrevocably shaped the new American nation in the two hundred years that followed. Whoever the storyteller in the aftermath of that encounter—native or newcomer—the stories all soon revolved around a common theme: the coming of the winds of change.

Ronda’s masterful interpretation of the young Republic’s fascination with the West is written with grace, narrative sweep, and a conviction that history should, above all else, engage and inform us.

“This is a really outstanding, important work.”—Professor John L. Allen, University of Wyoming ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This is my first Carol Higgans Clark book i'm reading and so far it's great. The plot is awesome and keeps you on edge. She's definitely a good suspense writer. The seller sent the book in excellent condition, which is also making the reading of the novel enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally... an ending that is not abrupt
I love Mary Jane Clark and her first 3 books were awesome but the last 2 while quick reads, I found a bit disappointing because the endings were too abrupt. This time, however, she did not miss. The story of course focuses on KEY News and its Medical Correspondent/Producer Anabelle Murphy. The storydeals with the issue of anthrax which while is a very serious issue was dealt with in a way that did not make for a disturbing read. The plot starts of with a KEY employee who while delivering information on anthrax, surprises the world and the KEY employees by showing a tube of anthrax on live TV. Now the FBI is involved in trying to get John Lee, MD to reveal who gave him the anthrax. Meanwhile, KEY employees and others are starting to die due to the anthrax poisoning. As the FBI continue to delve into the source of the anthrax, a lab report comes back stating that the tube that Dr. John Lee used on the show was actually a tube of powdered sugar. This leads to the interesting question of who has the tube of anthrax and why are people being killed. The killer actually has targeted Anabelle who not only has to find out who killed her ex-boyfriend, KEY employee Jerome Henning but who also has to deal with a husband who is dealing with 9/11 post traumatic disorder. I gave this book a 5 because Mary Jane Clark did a fine job of dealing with difficult issues and when the killer is finally revealed, you will be surprised at to who it is and at least you will have a reason as to why the killer was motivated to kill.

As always with MJC, you get a quick read with multiple suspects to play around with and guess who is the real villain.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I felt a bit misled with this book. The back cover and inside blurb focused on a lockdown situation, which sounded like a great suspense situation and I was looking forward to reading the book. Then, absolutely nothing happens for the first 300 pages! Basically nothing much at all, just lots of short chapters, and tons of characters, none of which we really get to know well enough to enjoy their company or care about. Then it's in the last 50 pages of the book that we finally get to the lockdown situation, and it's just a letdown, no big drama whatsoever, and the story just fizzled out.

I read another book over the weekend, Temporary Sanity by Rose Connors, that honestly blew this one out of the water. She is like a female John Grisham, and you really get to know and care about the people in her book, which is what was missing with this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Much cornier than I would have expected!
This was my first MJC book, but having read the reviews, I expected an action-packed exciting book. What I got was a book that dragged on and on. I felt the writing was extremely choppy which was very frustrating (I tend to become a slow reader when the writing is this way... when it is well written, like I am able to fly through a book). I didn't feel the characters were that interesting or exciting... Annabelle, the main character, seemed like a nice sweet working mom, but I really couldn't feel passionate about her because the author just didn't create that for me.

And then there's the ending... I really don't think it could have been any cornier... something about someone being allergic to dogs... Someone sneazing near a dog? Oh, please! No offense, but anyone who read and loved this book must never have read a well written, well thought out mystery!

3-0 out of 5 stars A very quick read.
After getting used to the rapid fire, reporting style of writing, I began to enjoy this very quick read. Someone is using Anthrax to get rid of key members of a TV newsroom, some by the Anthrax powder and others because they could be potential witnesses. I would have awarded this novel more stars except that the ending was written in almost "Boys Own Weekly" style...all that was missing was twirling mustachios and sneering laughter. ... Read more

Product Description

Thirteen Reformed scholars take on postmodern evangelicalsand provide a solid, biblical critique of their ideas.

While self-described "post-conservative evangelicals" enjoyincreasing influence in the evangelical world, they represent asignificant challenge to biblical faith. Popularizers like BrianMcLaren (of Emergent Church fame) trade on the work of scholarslike Stan Grenz, John Franke, and Roger Olson, whose "innovations"represent a major makeover of traditional and historic evangelicaltheology. This is especially the case with the doctrines ofScripture, the atonement, and the character of God-all of whichstand at the center of evangelical Christianity.

In Reforming or Conforming? scholars such as John Bolt,Scott Clark, Paul Helm, and Paul Helseth join editors Gary Johnsonand Ron Gleason in analyzing and critiquing the ideas of those whopromote postmodernism as a positive force in theology. Pastors, laymen, and college students will find this book a helpful resourcein understanding and refuting postmodern evangelicalism. Includes aforeword by David F. Wells.

3-0 out of 5 stars one of the better critical reviews
The book is better than most emerging church critiques that sit on my shelf. I enjoyed reading it and will review it on my tallskinnykiwi.com blog when i get the chance.

Best chapters are by Phil Johnson and Ron Gleason who both have some knowledge of the EC. Many of the suggestions are good and the authors quoted in the book such as Chris Wright, DH Williams, NT Wright, offer good direction for the emerging church.

But it does have some serious drawbacks:
The book only really deals with authors connected with Emergent Village, which is one of the emerging church movements in the USA. It ignores leaders who have not published, ignores those movements outside of USA (Pete Rollins excepted). It deals with many books and authors that are not accepted widely inside the emerging church (Burke's "Heretic's Guide" for example) It doesn't deal with the the criticisms pointed at Reformed church stream and it doesn't really offer a better way of doing ministry. The book hints at the missional emphasis of emerging church but fails to define it properly. It also makes the emerging church movement seem like a theological movement which is not the case.

It also focuses on the subject of postmodernism which was quite relevant a decade ago but it would have been better to deal with cultural factors that emerging church people are dealing with (and Carl Raschke is writing about these days) such as emergent theorgy, network theory, complexity, globalization and the impact of new media on church and mission in the global emerging culture.

However, it is still one of the best and well thought through books on the subject and I hope it is read and responded to.

"Faith Undone" by Roger Oakland is probably a more perceptive book although Oakland's conclusions are a long way from my own, as well as the authors of this book which is more scholarly and at least appreciative of the emerging church's attempt to be faithful to the gospel.

5-0 out of 5 stars The New Antipomo Apologists Overruling Modern False Prophets
David F Wells,Foreword
'The Reformed have always been uneasy about the post-WWII evangelical alliance that brought together so many ministries and viewpoints into a working relationship around a small core of commonly held beliefs. The church set about selling itself and its gospel...and the major casualty was biblical truth.'

I have eagerly anticipated another book edited by Gary L W Johnson for some time now, the reason being that much of what he addresses is current and, in some cases, well-timed advance warning. Purpose driven by the popular motives of personal well-being and self-image, emerged a pomo (post-modern) 'gospel' that many unassumingly have been duped into, exempt of sacrifice, personal or divine, and which at some point in time, must still contend with the gospel of historic Christianity. Johnson presents the magnitude of the problem in his Introduction.

Apologetics, as the exceptional B B Warfield presented it, has to do with evidences that unbelievers are faced with in their coming to terms with salvation and a sovereign God. These authors direct their attention not to such, but to so-called 'believers' and 'emergent' leaders within the Western church and therefore classical apologetics must be adapted to redress error within the church, through use of polemics (another Warfield forte), inviting a degree of difference. Under Johnson's leadership, differ they most certainly will!

Paul Wells,The Doctrine Of Scripture
'The question is as to whether postmodernism, whatever that might be, is of such a nature to require of evangelicals a new paradigm for this doctrine, different from the one called for by the results of Enlightenment rationalism. We think not.' p 27 'Post-conservative' evangelicals ought to be denied their demand for a radicalized Schleiermachian evangelicalism, especially given their disengagement with the doctrine of Scripture - but are they? In our times the entourage of errantists hold 'the Bible is described as a mediate, not a direct, source of revelation, a position very different from that of Warfield, who made inspiration the final act of revelation.' p 43

John Bolt,Sola Scriptura As An Evangelical Theological Method?
Meanwhile, 'Calvin includes no discussion of philosophical or metaphysical prolegomena - he simply begins with the twofold knowledge of God as confessed by Scripture and the Christian doctrinal tradition.' p 76Here, Bolt makes a brilliant case for the indispensability of prolegomena as fundamental to informing and forming a correct Christian worldview. (I prefer Warfield's apologetic to Bavinck's metaphysic.)

Paul Helm,Review Of Franke's 'Character of Theology'
The non-foundationalist scheme lays heavy emphasis on reworking everything theological in an attempt to come up with their own results, desperately hoping their distinctives are able to rise above old Princeton presuppositions. Senior Reformed spokesman, Paul Helm, brings commanding Christian scholarship to bear as he sets out to deconstruct John R Franke's 'instable' paradigm shift: 'In common with many contemporary Christian revisionists, Franke turns his back on foundationalism.' p 94After scrutinizing Franke's confused jargon, one is sorely reminded of the apostle Paul's assertion: 'the world did not know God through wisdom', whereby the apostle surely meant a point in redemptive history BEFORE Christ, after redemption only to see wisdom as 'the foundational character of God's revelation in Jesus Christ.' p 100Blatant anti-confessionalism as Franke advocates, assumes too much to be accurate in his acrimony, and his modifying the content of the historic gospel sends a strong message that Franke is a modern false prophet with 'another' gospel.

Paul Kjoss Helseth, The Mythical Evangelical Magisterium Reconsidered
Old Princeton's opposition to the rise of theological liberalism has often been misrepresented as an unwillingness to remain teachable. The worst maligning charge laid at the Reformed church's door is often construed to be that the Holy Spirit is not present in our meets. But do these charges ring true, or does it only serve the ends of those who promote the openness of personal experiences over objective revealed truth, due to their inferior epistemology of the Holy Spirit? '...for there to be faith, liberals conceived of doctrines as little more than expressions of an ineffable religious experience for a particular time and place.' p 131 The feelings and postmodern beliefs of Franke are weighed against the 'details soundly discovered' of the great Warfield - and found wanting of credible historical substance. Helseth asserts: 'when the Spirit takes believers ever more deeply into the objective contents of God's Word, the history of Christian thought continues to unfold.' p 134

Greg D Gilbert,Brian McLaren's Approach To The Doctrine Of Hell
Reformulating the doctrine of Hell has the unavoidable consequence of minimizing the wrath of God - and negating the exigency of atonement. 'Moreover, McLaren's deficient rethinking of hell seems to have sprung from his deficient rethinking of the gospel, and there is the most serious problem. For in the end, his struggle to be rid of the traditional doctrine of Hell is finally only a symptom of his having misunderstood the gospel of the kingdom.' p 246So what does McLaren's fanciful mind think of the kingdom? Eternal kingdom life is not to be had in heaven, but 'an extraordinary life to the full centered in a relationship with God.' McLaren, The Secret Message of Jesus: Uncovering the Truth that Could Change Everything p 37

Guy Prentiss Waters,An Emerging Rereading Of The Ministry Of Jesus
McLaren's meteoric rise to fame can only mean one thing: gross distortion of the Word to Gen Xers. Will Waters confirm my suspicion? Heading into hostile territory early on, Waters examines the affinity McLaren has for NT Wright, and a plethora of wacky expressions he uses to present his religion. Ah, here we go: 'Absent from McLaren's description of the fall is the guilt, or obligation to divine justice, that Adam incurred for himself and his ordinary posterity in his first sin.' p 199As a consequence of the denial of the doctrine of human depravity, 'when McLaren defines the human plight chiefly in terms of breach of relationship, we are not surprised to see the redemptive solution defined primarily in terms of remedy of that breach.' p 199Brian McLaren is one of the high-ranking cohorts of the modern false apostles, selling a high-octane, world-domination gospel with no bad news, to which the 'good news' must be juxtaposed.

One who is informed to the tragedy that is the 'pomo' gospel knows that it is the received gospel of the apostles that the church in history has sought to define and defend, as observed by notable heresy trials in its history. In the formative church the apostles rejected and corrected false ideas of God found in their own contemporary culture, through regulative doctrine - are we no longer to regard their example as authoritative? ... Product Description
virtudes vigorosas y masculinas –coraje, responsabilidad, patriotismo,

Simply inaccurate and when you travel to country like this you need accurate information. Be forewarn do not rely upon this work.

3-0 out of 5 stars Strangely Annoyed
I have lots of guidebooks - and lots of Lonely Planets, for that matter. But despite the fact that they say they are for "independent travellers", I keep finding ridiculous reviews on restaurants and hotels, to the point where I've stopped using them.

The History, Snapshot, and similar sections are great, but if you have a brain of your own - use it.Forget their restaurant and hotel recommendations, as I'm not even sure they visit the places.Sometimes they have history or comments on places that is worthwhile to read, though. All tourbooks may have these drawbacks, to be fair.

Finally, I think I'm going to stop buying Lonely Planet's, though.First, they always act like driving is so scary everywhere, when it's actually quite easy to anyone with a brain. They also forget to give worthwhile tips on getting a car, etc.I imagine that this is their way of "saving the Earth".To a person who does care about the Earth, but doesn't believe that being a dirty hippie is going to save anything, this - and all their other BS trying to coerce their opinions onto you as fact - gets really freakin' old.Yes, yes, I know, LP is founded by some hippie freak from AUS or something - whooptie doo. That doesn't mean I have to pay some jerk who's going to push his politics on me, whether I agree with them or not.

5-0 out of 5 stars Window on a Strange Land
This is the best handbook I found while preparing for my trip to Burma, although it must be noted that there is not a lot of competition. Burma's political isolation renders it attractive in many ways, not the least of which is that it has what seems to be a hundredth of the tourists that Thailand has. That in turn makes this handbook all the more valuable, since one doesn't have fellow tourists on every corner to turn to for help. Those who complain that the prices are out of date are being a little absurd, since even a doubling of the rate on a twelve dollar hotel (which is about average) still leaves it on the extreme cheap end of international standards.

Lonely Planet Myanmar's real strength is its discussions of Burmese culture past and present, within the context of a travel guide. Thus, while having great beach time at Sittwe, I could track down the birthplace of Saki (the writer, not the wine), and muse that British merchant ships were just beginning to come into its harbor around the time their influence in Boston was beginning to wane. I tried but failed to get into one of Burma's nature preserves to see one of the world's remaining free tigers. Not that they want my advice, but it seems to me that the military government could burnish their reputation and bring in tons of foreign currency at the same time by arranging tours of the domains of these vanishing cats. By doing so, it seems to me they could far outstrip places like Costa Rica, which are raking in billions of eco-tourism dollars even without the benefit of so-called "charismatic megafauna". Say what you will about the tiger, but if there's one thing it's got over the rest of us faunae, it's charisma.

In the course of my travels I met a guide by the name of Aree. She was from the vicinity of Mandalay, and specialized in the ancient capitals of the north. I didn't know any way of verifying her claim to be descended from one of the last royal families of Burma, but she certainly looked every inch the princess, in spite of the Kia she drove. And I can thank this Lonely Planet guide for the privilege of her company, since without the warnings on pages 54 and 106 against public displays of affection, I would undoubtedly have alienated her and had to traipse through the ruins by myself. As it was, I learned an immense amount from her about Burma and its history, all delivered in intermediate English with the Southeast Asian accent that is so charming. I recall in particular her spiel on the ailing Kia, which needed "a blake job and a toom up and a hando for door... all these things vely expenshiv". I can only hope my halting Burmese sounds half so winsome.

On the subject of language and pronunciation, LP Myanmar could be improved by the addition of International Phonetic Alphabet pronunciation guides in the glossary and for the major place names. It would be nice, when buying tickets in Yangon to know how to pronounce Mrauk U and Shinbithalyaung and Wetkyi-in. Still and all,it is mainly the reader who may be improved by a thorough reading of this excellent volume prior to a trip to Burma.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT TRAVEL TO BURMA
Tourism is an important source of income for the dictatorship in Burma, providing it with millions of pounds every year. Forced labour has been used to develop many tourist facilities. Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has asked tourists not to visit Burma.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful
I just came back from Myanmar. This guidebook is hopelessly outdated in regard to practical information. It is at least 10 years behind on current conditions which are constantly changing. The only useful information is concerning sightseeing but even that is inaccurate. The problem is that there is no other current guidebook in print. For hotels use the internet directrooms.com, asiarooms.com or asiahotels.com. ... Read more
