A former eight-ball pool player, she began refereeing professional pool tournaments in 1997 and professional snooker tournaments in 2002. In May 2009 she became the first woman ever to referee a World Snooker Championship final. Introduced to the game by a boyfriend, Tabb started playing pool competitively in 1991, at the age of 23. Selected for the Scottish Ladies' Pool Team in 1992, she captained the team to two consecutive "Grand Slams" in 1997 and 1998, accomplished by winning the Nations Cup, European Championships, and World Championships in the same season. She remained on the team until 2003. Her sister, Juliette Tabb, also played on the Scottish ladies' team between 1996 and 2008. Thank you Ms. Clark!
I bought this book from Books for Cooks while still studying at Le Cordon Bleu in London.I used the drunken pear recipe, after making some modifications, for part of the plated dessert product I had to produce for my final patisserie diploma exam. During the final exam, I proceed to cook the pears in red wine and cinnamon and one of the chef instructors walked into the exam room, took a sniff and noted that the air smelled like Christmas.

I love this book. The quantities are in weights, not volumes, which is much appreciated.I've found so much inspiration and encouragement from this book.Thank you Ms. Clark for this great resource!

disappointed
While I like the exhaustive instructions for making the pastry, the real reason I bought the book was for savory tart recipes. I found the selection of savory tart recipes disappointing. They are more like quiches, and not what I was looking for.

Visual, easy to follow receipes.The pastry making instructions are particularly good.Yummy sweet & savory receipes, everything I have cooked has turned out looking very professional.

Excellent Resource for Making Tarts
The Tarts book has numerous delicious recipes. What is outstanding about this book are the pictures. There are step by step pictures showing how to make pastry dough like puff pastry. For every tart there is a recipe with directions as well as a beautiful, colored illustration to coax you into making that tart. nice introduction
This book is for first time reader of Italian Risorgimento, a period of time between 1840s to the 1860s when Italy unified itself into a singular nation. The book traced this from the Napoleonic Period where the seeds was initially planted to the final event when the French withdrew from Rome in 1870, allowing the Italians to regained their foremost city and making it their official capital once more.

The book proves to be well written and researched. The author present his material with clarity without cluttering it up with too much details. It was interesting to note that this national unification wasn't exactly a national event in Italy. It was basically the works of the Kingdom of Piedmont and a small numbered of well educated urban minority. Its appears that the rest of the Italian peninsula was dragged into it by sheer force of will.

The book comes with some documents that gives a nice contemporary feel to it. I thought more maps and maybe some illustrations would have been nice. But overall, the book proves to be an excellent introduction to this subject and should provided a solid foundation for further studies on the field if desire. ... Read more
