Product Description
Since the seventh century, the Islamist movement has aimed to convert the world to Islam or enslave those who resist their religious practice. The Islamists goal is a painful death for anyone who resists them. They want to end the world with a nuclear war that will kill every person on earth and bring about Judgment Day at the same moment. In their demented view, they will be saved and infidels will be condemned to hell. In this plan, every American is a target for death whether they had knowledge it or not. Only two countries (America and her strongest ally, Israel) stand in the way of the Islamist s dreams of ending the free and democratic world. In a top secret joint operation, America s President and Israel s Prime Minister plan to crush the Islamist before they can attack the free world. They develop a first-strike, all-out-war plan to trick the terrorist enemies out of the jihad war they want to fight and into a war that America can t and won t lose. Operation Sucker Punch, the code name for America s action, is the kind of ruthless, swift and hard hitting attack every American who loves his/her country has been anxiously awaiting. It is filled with examples of American courage and ingenuity that have made America the world s leading Super Power. In the pages of BLOOD FOR OUR FUTURE, we finally see an American President who is willing to unleash the full, awesome power of our military might. This is a story of America that will be deeply satisfying to anyone who loves our country and wants to fight to keep it free. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly educational AND entertaining!!
As the press has insisted upon subjecting us to the same garbage time and time again, ignoring the real issues more pressing in the world, Stand up America, led by General Paul Vallely addresses these current world problems head on with up to date articles, books, both fiction as well as nonfiction and lectures, refusing to turn his back on the facts, regardless of how ugly things get.'Operation Sucker Punch' is such a title, well written that starts off quickly and is a fictitious story but based on plausible events regarding the infilteration of radical Islam throughout the modern world and what must happen to prevent our Nation from complete destruction. it's a complete and important read and full of facts that are very much unfolding, even as we speak...certainly not to be missed....everyone should read 'Operation Sucker Punch' and if you think this scenario couldn't possibly play out here?? check out what's going on in Britain and google Geert Childers....

lastly, Vallely is an exceptional researcher and writer and is an expert in his field, always developing his next project. check out the website at www.StandupAmericaUs.com as Vallely is a true conservative and is the brainchild behind most of the strategies of successful military ops...he's worth getting to know and a leader of the conservative party...and a wonderful, compassionate man.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read for all who would live free
...Can you contemplate Armageddon in our lifetime ? Can two Democracies band together to prevent it ? Few books today with such "read on" appeal so dare to cloak grim truth. "Operation Sucker Punch" is crafted as a novel to lead the reader plausibly through the unthinkable -- all with co-authors' impeccable credentials.
...Described in chilling detail, "Operation" provides insight into the radical Islam (ie, the Islamist) movement's immutable mind-set which they base on the "Verses of the Sword" chapter of the Qur'an decreeing wholesale violence not merely to challenge but to replace all the world's religions (And now there is fresh corroboration from a just published non-fiction work, Inside the Revolution . . . by Joel C. Rosenberg). Both books greatly detail the holy mission ("Jihad") for violent dominance contained in these Verses.
...Armed with irrefutable proof of Islamists' imminent readiness to launch nuclear holocaust on Washington and Tel Aviv, the President of America and Prime Minister of Israel are resolved to act. What follows is the strategy to trick the Islamists into launching conventional warfare, thus to preempt their nuclear Doomsday.
...Estimating 5% of all Islam amounts to some 750 million Islamist radicals worldwide. They become everywhere aroused. Their atrocities are described in grisly detail. With overwhelming resources at America's command, ours is reaction born of outrage yet able to be applied in measured ways, mere threat sufficient in some cases.
...Capitulation enables our access to destroy radical training camps -- plus enduring new nation-level "alignments".In the end we are required to crush the radical Islamists and their movement over twenty plus world locations and with generational lasting effect.
...The authors have no illusions that the radical movement shall have been forever cleansed from an otherwise moderate Islam but, America's power evident, assuredly the policies of formerly uncommitted nations shall have been altered at very least to respect America's free institutions -- values without historic precedent.
...The speech given by America's President, Harlan Andrews deserves special attention as a brilliant summary of the whys and wherefores of the mission completed plus the enduring commitment we shall yet need to preserve our way of life.
...This book should be a Must Read for all who would live free.As talks fail must we allow Iran to go nuclear AND arm terrorists ? Are we willing then to sacrifice in order to guarantee our survival ? Write your Senators and Congressmen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blood For Our Future is Coming To a Neighborhood Near You
This story is spellbinding.Once the reader begins this journey, it's nearly impossible to stop. The setting is so appropos of the conflict between the Isrealis and the Palestinians. The denouement of the story is so explosive it can only end the way the authors describe it--a prophacy that ends in blood for our future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome...simply awesome
This book about radical Islam and the Jewish sacrifice to finally bring war against the Islamofascists left me stunned.

The fast pace at which the storyline develops kept me reading from cover to cover in two sittings, and the attention to detail..."he picked up a molotov cocktail, 'just to see if these things really work'"...kept my attention rapt throughout both sittings.

Not to mention that the whole time I read, the back of my mind was screaming for Israel to pull off Operation Sucker Punch in real life, just as was done in the novel.Dom lated Shlano.

5 star.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jammed packed novel Israel US and Iran

It is also a great historical perspective from WWII to the present. It is a long read but well layed out for the reader to get through the book. In 1855, when Jose da Fonseca and Pedro Carolino wrote an English phrasebook for Portuguese students, they faced just one problem: they didn't know any English. Even worse, they didn't own an English-to-Portuguese dictionary. What they did have, though, was a Portuguese-to-French dictionary, and a French-to-English dictionary. The linguistic train wreck that ensued is a classic of unintentional humor, now revived in the first newly selected edition in a century. Armed with Fonseca and Carolino's guide, a Portuguese traveler can insult a barber ("What news tell me? All hairs dresser are newsmonger"), complain about the orchestra ("It is a noise which to cleve the head"), go hunting ("let aim it! let make fire him"), and consult a handy selection of truly mystifying "Idiotisms and Proverbs." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ongoing entertainment
I'd heard about this book years ago, but just bought it recently. It doesn't disappoint! It's the sort of thing that could never be created these days - more's the pity - and every page contains some strange gem. We've had it on the coffee table since it arrived, and just dip in at random from time to time, reading aloud the best of what we find. You wouldn't want to sit and read it straight through from cover to cover, but it's none the worse for that.

For fans of language and lovers of the unusual and the absurd!

5-0 out of 5 stars Comedy at its peak
First, let me say that I am a native Portuguese speaker and that I understand English very well (though my writing skills are not that good, I ask you to comment this review if you see any grammatical error), this book is a classic, it's so funny that people in the metro thought that I was mad because of the loud laughs, that said, I recommend someone to have a passable reading ability in some romance language to fully enjoy this book, if portuguese is a problem for you could try to learn to read in some other language, specially spanish that is closer to portuguese, catalan, italian or french will do if you're good with languages and have a portuguese dictionary.

5-0 out of 5 stars It was great
English As She Is Spoke is a pretty funny book, and a great read-- even after 153 years.Maybe some of my Brazilian friends would enjoy it...

5-0 out of 5 stars Hillarious read
My book was sent from the U.S to Australia and it arrived much quicker than expected. The book is very funny and I reccomend it to anyone who loves wit and humour based on the clever use of language.

3-0 out of 5 stars need Portuguese
This book is only as funny as the review promises if you speak Portuguese - otherwise you can't tell what they were translating FROM. You only get half the joke. Also, I have a friend who speaks Portuguese and she says the Portuguese in the book is archaic, as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for father-son teams, Boy Scouts, and aspiring Mr. Wizards
Divided into four sections, this book is an inspirational and brings out the scientist, the engineer in all of us.It's inspiring, really. If there were ever a book to convince children of the importance of science, to involve them in something difficult yet rewarding, to make being smart and inventive something cool.

The four sections of the book are separated very well.Machines that:
1) Turn, throw, and shoot fire
2) Swim and fly
3) Walk
4) Talk

I can think of several reasons this book could come in handy.Become your own Mr. Wizard and build a six volt turbine, an Indonesian fire kite (YES!), or a pneumatic boat! This is perfect for the Boy Scout in all of us (even a Soapbox Go Cart), and even better for a father-son projects.

With very specific instructions, and incredibly helpful step-by-step pictures, everything in this book seems accessible.Build a car, a robot, a machine gun.OK, I made that last one up.Nonetheless, with a few introductory pages on circuit boards - very easy stuff - Things that Go Boom is specifically designed for beginners of all ages and experience levels.I'm sure everything is harder than it appears, but I really get the feeling that I could follow anything in this book.

I'd write more, but I'm getting ready to go out and purchase the required supplies for an electronic didgeridoo.BVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVvvvVVVVvvvVVVVVVV!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Boom! You will have fun even if you don't make this sound
I'm having a great time paging through this book. The projects look like fun things I can do with my son, and the illustrated steps are very clear.

Each project lists the tools and parts that you will need. There was a lot of effort put into this book.

Recommended as projects to do with your kids if you want to teach them some great hands-on skills.

Edit: Oddly my version of this book is "18 DIY projects to make" and the cover of at least one version here says "20 DIY projects to make". Not sure why, but there is still plenty of fun in this one book. ... Read more

Product Description
Rushed out to mark the election of the new Pontiff, here is a book with three distinct purposes - an assessment of Pope John Paul II, an account of the Conclave, and a portrait of the new Pope. This compelling new book is an assessment of Pope John Paul II, an account of the Conclave and a portrait of the new Pope written by one of the most experienced and perceptive commentators on the Catholic Church in the modern world. The dramatic events leading up to the appearance of white smoke over the Vatican and the public declaration from the balcony of St Peter's- Habemus Papam- has been the most remarkable yet in the election of any Pontiff. The demise of Pope John Paul II was anticipated ever since he was rushed to Gemelli hospital on February 1st. Now he has died, the legacy of this outstanding Pontiff is already the matter of fierce debate. Paul Collins will give a sound appraisal of the Pope's work in office, examining the many controversies and apparent contradictions in his thought and practice. The author will be in Rome throughout the Conclave reporting for ABC on what is happening within, and this will form the basis of the second part of the book.He is sure to unearth some fascinating details about the mysterious processes by which a new Pope is chosen. Finally, the book will offer character sketches of the serious contenders for the See of Peter and an intricate and in-depth profile of the new Pope. Included will be an account of the Conclave, the politicking and the jockeying for position. ... Read more

Product Description
The four volumes of The Public Face of Wilkie Collins bring into one continuous chronological sequence nearly 3,000 letters by Wilkie Collins, one of the most successful Victorian writers. They range from the short letter to his mother written in 1831 when Collins was just 7 years old to the last note to his doctor scrawled almost illegibly two days before his death at 65 in 1889. His letters are an essential research tool for anyone studying Victorian fiction whether from the point of view of its key role in literary development or its central place in publishing history, Victorian theatre or travel, or indeed anyone who just wants a window opened on Victorian England in nearly three quarters of a million wonderful words by one of its key writers. The editors have transcribed 2,500 letters, around 700 of them previously unidentified, and have given them all a full scholarly annotation and context. These letters are all published in full. The 460 letters which have already received modern scholarly publication Baker & Clarke (1999) are summarized in their correct place. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nancy Collins illustrated
A very dark graphic novel - also a must read for fans of Sonja Blue. I enjoy comics, though I am not an avid reader. I found this to be a beautifully drawn book. Being a fan of Nancy Collins, I also enjoyed the story.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only for the vampire-obsessed
"Dhampire: Stillborn" is the first in what will (unfortunately) be a series of graphic novels. In "Stillborn" we watch a Dhampire (half human, half vampire) explore his past and evolve into a full vampire. Vampirism is a subject with tremendous literary opportunities that the vampire-story, as a genre, has utterly failed to explore. "Stillborn" is a perfect example of why. Characters with potential are reduced to archetypes with the whirl-wind plot, and bland dialog. Perhaps the author thinks that the reader would not be willing to put in the time to get to know the characters, so she jumps directly to what the target audience expects: depressed, pitiful characters empowered and glamourized by extraordinary violence. The graphic novel appears to be targeted toward emotionally disturbed teenagers. For them, vampirism represents power and superiority. Pitiful social maladjustment is transformed, in the fantasy of the novel, into Evil. Perhaps, within a few years, authors will begin exploring the lives of the consumers of fiction like this, rather than producing more of it. The novel's only redeeming quality is its beautiful artwork, especially of the Dhampire's mother ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A hilarious journey through bad and questionable English
This book shows what can happen to our English language when put through a multi-lingual mix-master. The result is unintentionally hilarious, and reveals just how complex our "simple" language is.

4-0 out of 5 stars This must read it
In 1855 two translators portuguese, of the Fonseca de Jose and Peter Carolino, phrasebook had produced one English thus inacreditàvel bad that reprinted for half one of the century as one masterpiece of hilarity, under the English of the heading because it is ray.

This evaluates certainly as one of the funniest book always. That he funny entirely for the accident to far it original. Recommended high.

5-0 out of 5 stars To Craunch the Marmoset
This is one of my very favorite books of all time. Carolino and Fonesca wrote this to cure the phrase book gap in the 1800s. It seems that there was no Portuguese-English phrase book available at the time and they decided to take on the task of writing one despite the fact that neither spoke English. Likewise, they only owned Portuguese-French and French-English dictionaries which results in some surreal 'translations.' ("Do you cut the hairs?"; "Comb me."; "For to craunch the marmoset.") You will also learn a bit of taxonomy. Previously I had not known that a Hedgehog was a type of fish, for instance.

I can't recommend this gem of a book highly enough. I have an edition with a forward by Mark Twain in addition to this expanded edition. Twain and I both find this book perfect and unable to be improved on.

As Carolino says: "It must never to laugh of the unhappies."

5-0 out of 5 stars It seems me my Damask Crimson
My nephew (who as a hobby learned Esperanto) once pieces read of this book to our family. It was hilarious, and as you might have noticed, as the style my write of to be changed goodly.

In other words, from then on, we have delighted in making terrible nonexistent translations of nonsense for each other, and this book and its influence has made our lives that much more fun. When I heard it was once again available, I felt I had to let people know how enjoyable it is.

If the you to tootle melodious for is, then must needs of this book an buy! :-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Everyone laughs when they look at this.
.
In the 19th century, there were no english phrase books for the Portuguese market, and the authors sought to fill that gap with this book, now reprinted in full.Ah, what a futile, heartfelt exercise this book turned out to be, for they had no English-Portuguese/Portuguese-English dictionaries to work with, only English-French and French-Portuguese as a substitute, and knew no English themselves and had no English speaking editors. The required gyrations led to hilarious results.

Page after page of mangled sentences and hilarious absurdities follow the original Portuguese:

"Where correspond the bells?"
"She have always anything which is it bad."
"These are the dishes whose you must be and to abstain."

The authors also provided us with vocabulary for common terms (examples in the bed room are "the bed battom" and "the feet's bed") as well as typical dialogs you might have (for instance, when buying furniture, "Pardon me, it comes workman's hands.")

A little of this goes a long way, though;it's not for extended reading, but it's quite suitable for abbreviated sessions (and is better than Dave Barry for the bathroom because it's shorter and continuity doesn't matter a whit) or passing around at a party.

But it's a wonderful monument to misguided effort, and we enjoy it a lot.I've never seen anyone look at it without laughing. ... Read more

Product Description
This title presents an investigation of how understandings of theosis in the Christian Tradition have related to understandings of divine nature in terms of koinonia. Discussion of theosis is mainly undertaken within Byzantine Orthodoxy and is usually structured around an examination of patristic and medieval sources. This work builds upon such discussions and broadens the basis by including Western sources (Catholic and Protestant) in contemporary debates about salvation. In seeking to explore a relational understanding of divine nature, a discussion of personhood and communion is held. This is filtered through the works of Zizioulas, exponents of communion ecclesiology and those such as Turcescu who have provided a critique of these understandings. This is an investigation of how understandings of theosis in the Christian Tradition have related to understandings of divine nature in terms of koinonia. It further suggests a relational paradigm for conceptualising how theosis may be understood today, drawing out implications for the Christian community and discipleship. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Bizarre
David Garnett (1892-1981) was a British writer and publisher who received literary recognition when his novel Lady into Fox was awarded the 1922 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for fiction.

This particular work is as enigmatic as its writer and this particular reviewer failed to understand the work. The plot is simple enough: Sylvia, the 24-year-old wife of Richard Tebrick, suddenly turns into a fox while they are out walking in the woods. The rest of the story is the tale of Richard dealing with the transformation and his struggle to accept his wife's ego as she slowly loses her humanity to the fox form she inhabits.

Is the story a morality play? Fictional essay? Eccentric novella? The last gasp of scandalous English yellow literature? Each reader will have to judge for his or her own.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing worse than knowing exactly how a book is going to end in the first 10 pages
Originally published in 1922 and out of print for years, *Lady into Fox* by David Garnett has recently been republished by McSweeneys in a beautiful jacket-less hardcover. It is illustrated with wonderful woodcuts by R.A. Garnett. It is a well written novella with a fanciful tone.

This is the story of Mr. Tebrick and his wife who, in the first few pages, turns into a fox. Mr. Tebrick, though taken aback by his wife's new condition, still loves his wife even through her adulterous affair with another fox and her [...] kits from this affair. Even more complicating the story is that they live an area of England where fox hunting is a daily pastime - one that Mr. Tebrick has enjoyed on many an occasion in the past.

So, why, you ask, did I only give this book 3 stars? Unfortunately, I knew exactly where the book was going and exactly how it was going to end within a few pages of Mrs. Tebrick's transformation into a fox; and, the story played out as I expected leaving me no joy in the discovery, no surprises, no pleasure in the reading.

This doesn't mean that others won't enjoy *Lady into Fox*, only that I didn't even though this a nicely packaged and well written book.

3 stars = Wasn't a waste of time, but it was time wasted.
4 stars = Good book, but not life altering.
5 stars = This book changed my world in at least some small way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly unique and enthusiastically recommended
This book is astonishing, and I do not believe I've ever read anything quite like it.

By some strange accident, Mr. Tebrick's beloved wife is transformed into a fox, yet with her intelligence and personality intact.Garnett depicts the reactions of husband and wife to this event with incredible psychological depth and realism. The husband is beside himself, but is primarily concerned for his wife's safety, shooting his furious dogs and sending away the servants. His wife is heartbroken, and desperately tries to avoid walking on all fours or appearing unclothed, and the couple attempt to live their lives as normally as possible; the husband plays waltzes for his vixen, they take tea together, and even play cards!

As time passes, Mrs. Tebrick becomes more at home in the body and mind of a fox, and her husband's whole concept of the boundaries between man and nature is repeatedly shattered as his beloved wife devours her pet dove, runs and plays like a normal fox, and yearns to kiss him with her muzzle still stained with blood from a "savagely" killed small animal.

Mr. Tebrick is trapped in an excruciating tug of war between the world of men and nature as he confronts his wife's "adultery" and "bestiality" with a dog-fox, yet finds his greatest happiness in playing with his wife's kits, and his wife, who delights in his company and his attention to her offspring, even though she now prefers to chew playing cards rather than use then in human fashion.

Sadly, Mr. Tebrick's unshakable love for his wife and his litter of godchildren causes even greater suffering, since as a human he is hideously aware of the dangers that await his family during the coming hunting season, and how tenuous their short moments of happiness are.

Truly a remarkable study of the close kinship we have with animals, and the ways our abstract intelligence and imagination will always keep us at a distance from their world. It is also an incredibly moving love story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely and enchanting...
Lady Into Fox, by David Garnett, harkens back to the early Twentieth Century when book covers (one of the best things about this book) were deliciously simple and the real treat was contained in the pagese between them. Also enchanting are the wood engravings that illustrate the book.Originally published in 1922 and out of print since 1966, McSweeney's brings this classic tale of transformation and unrecognizable self back to the forefront of literature. This opulent tale will surely be talked about and enjoyed for years to come. This is a great gift. ... Read more
