5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just for Kids!!
I got this book at the library for my children, but I think I enjoyed it as much as they did! (I plan to buy a copy of my own!) Instead of a cool, impersonal presentation of artists and their work, this book provides a refreshingly personal view. The artists talk about their childhoods, how they spend their days (the answers are fun & honest!), their families, and best of all, they give us peeks inside their studios. I don't know about you, but I love seeing inside of an artist's private workspace! It's like a glimpse inside his/her mind.
The styles of the artists are very diverse and they use many different techniques that kids and adults alike would like to try out. I highly recommend this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Woodstove Cookery
I love this book. It fills lots of gaps in the general info that you usually find.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased
This is a unique book that is fit for the "woodstove" enthusiast. It gives great tips on the CARE of the stove, which our great grandmothers may have not told us OR it passed in one ear & out the other. Great recipes to try.
There are not many WELL WRITTEN woodstove books to choose from, for one that has little experience with this antique. It is a must for the woodstove owner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Complete
This book covers about everything one would need to know including buying a stove (new or used), caring for it, using it. A very practical and very readable guide. I found it held my interest as well as giving me much valuable information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woodstove Cookery: At Home on the Range
I feel very fortunate to have come across such a nice book. A good book to add to your library of knowledge,
it is well written with a wealth of information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know
I bought this book in March 2000, right after we purchased a refurbished Elmira Sweetheart style wood cookstove. It is the perfect companion to using the woodstove for heating, cooking, or both. There are detailed descriptions of all the components of the stove, plus how to clean it and what type of wood to use for best results. It also has a bit of amusing history, and lots of tasty recipes. This is the only book you need for learning to use your wood cookstove efficiently. ... Product Description
Observing that poetry is a natural part of our pastimes and rituals, Rukeyser opposes elitist attitudes and confronts Americans' fear of feeling. Multicultural and interdisciplinary, this volume makes an irrefutable case for the centrality of poetry in American life.Amazon.com Review
In an era in which art is increasingly dictated by marketers, and publishers and filmmakers don't seem to make a move without firstconsulting focus groups, poetry might seem, at first, a bitsuperfluous. It's "difficult," for one thing, subject tomany interpretations; it's also deeply personal, unsuited to creationby committee. So what possible use does the modern world have forpoetry? Muriel Rukeyser answers this question in The Life ofPoetry, a book that just keeps coming back in time for each newgeneration. First published in 1949, it was reissued in 1974 andreturns to print again in 1997, courtesy of Paris Press. Rukeyser'spresents many definitions of poetry: it is an exchange of energy, arecord of the emotional meaning of every moment, a concentration ofuniversal joys and sorrows. It is a thing "in which we may liveand which will save us."

Rukeyser, herself a poet, was a womanwho understood that poetry alone was not enough to save the world. Anactivist on behalf of West Virginia coal miners and later censoredSouth Korean writers, Rukeyser had an intimate understanding of theplace principle and action occupy in saving the world. But the worldneeds a soul as well as a mind and a will, and for Rukeyser, poetryfills that role. The Life of Poetry is about poetry, but withinthat realm fall subjects as varied as musicals; war; and the works ofWhitman, Dickinson, and Lorca, among others. Rukeyser died in 1980,but her fierce intelligence and great heart live on in this marvelousmeditation on the universal applications of poetry. ... Read more

Product Description
Although the themes of women's complicity in and resistance to war have been part of literature from early times, they have not been fully integrated into conventional conceptions of the war narrative.Combining feminist literary criticism with the emerging field of feminist war theory, this collection explores the role of gender as an organizing principle in the war system and reveals how literature perpetuates the ancient myth of "arms and the man."

The volume shows how the gendered conception of war has both shaped literary texts and formed the literary canon. It identifies and interrogates the conventional war text, with its culturally determined split between warlike men and peaceful women, and it confirms that women's role in relation to war is much more complex and complicitous than such essentializing suggests. The contributors examine a wide range of familiar texts from fresh perspectives and bring new texts to light.Collectively, these essays range in time from the Trojan War to the nuclear age.

The contributors are June Jordan, Lorraine Helms, Patricia Francis Cholakian, Jane E. Schultz, Margaret R. Higonnet, James Longenbach, Laura Stempel Mumford, Sharon O'Brien, Jane Marcus, Sara Friedrichsmeyer, Susan Schweik, Carol J. Adams, Esther Fuchs, Barbara Freeman, Gillian Brown, Helen M. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.
