A small book with the essential information
The mission system has intrigued me for years.It is a large part of both Catholic and California history.What took place on the sites of the missions was often unthinkable human cruelty, yet sadly that was the norm for the time.The architecture, plant life, and artwork are still in place today at all the twenty one missions.Earlier this year I visited San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo, or better known as the Carmel Mission, and it is by the far the most stunning of the missions I have seen.It includes the burial site of the founder of the missions, Fr. Junipero Serra, as well as a modest burial site of the Native Americans buried there. I wouldn't say the missions should be the proudest moments in history, but the remnants of such a time are spectacular.

Mendoza has a plethora of information that is easy to read and understand.Many children begin learning about the missions in the fourth or fifth grade, and this book would be a terrific tool for the classroom or at home working on a mission project for school.There is information on each mission, illustrations from the time period, recent photographs, as well as the history of the mission system as a whole.

During this economic time, this book is an eye opener on how to show that you might be not only the obvious choice for a promotion but the obvious choice to keep and not be laid off.

Great info you think people knnow... but they don't.I purchase this for each of my staff members
I was given the advice long ago that one should make themselves the first person someone thinks of when they have a position available. In my career, it was probably the best advice I was ever given.In the early days, people around me would wonder why I would do extra work for free or why I took on so many projects... these same people complained that they could never get ahead.

I came across this book and was THRILLED that it spelled out step by step what it means to become the obvious choice. One would think that people who are hungry to get ahead would know this already... but they don't.I have known people to follow this same advice and the reccommendations in the book and get ahead...I have yet to experience someone who didn't take action progress as quickly, if at all.

Managers, this is a great book to help groom your employees for career satisfaction and advancement.Parents, this is a good book for your college graduates, even high school students. I keep at least 10 copies of this book at all times and use it whenever I see someone is ready for mentoring.

This book gets one of my highest recommendations.
