Tol (born 2 December 1969, Hoorn, the Netherlands) is a Research Professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute, Dublin, Ireland, where he works in the research areas of energy and environment. He also holds a professorship at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and is an Associate at Hamburg University and the Hamburg Centre for Marine and Atmospheric Science. Tol obtained his PhD in Economics from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 1997. In 1998, he contributed with some 19 other scientists to a joint project of the United Nations Environment Programme at his home university. Tol collaborated with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which shared the Nobel Peace Prize 2007 with Al Gore. He regularly participates in studies of the Energy Modeling Forum and is an editor of Energy Economics, associate editor of Environmental and Resource Economics, and on the editorial board of Environmental Science and Policy, and Integrated Assessment. From 1998-2008 he was an Adjunct Professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Engineering and Public Policy. IDEAS/RePEc ranks him among the top 250 economists in the world. Tol specialises in energy economics and environmental economics, with a particular interest in climate change. Great brain stories for adults
If you liked the Great Brain series as a kid, Uncle Will is worth tracking down and picking up.While it can stand alone, it is more enjoyable if the previous two books have been read.Of the three "adult" books by Fitzgerald in this series, this seems to be the most expensive.I've seen "Papa Married a Mormon" and "Mama's Boarding House" for under $10 and would recommend starting with those.What is disconcerting is that if you can remember some of the antics from the Great Brain series, some of the anecdotes in "Uncle Will" bear an uncanny similarity, which leaves one wondering the true origins of the stories in the books. ... A slice of life in a young America
As a childhood fan of Fitzgerald (the Great Brain series), I was eager to read his semi-autobiographical work, Papa Married a Mormon. The book is suffused with the charm of a time and place few know or appreciate.

The book follows the development of a western town as well as the family of the narrator.

The best comparisons for to this book would be anything by Twain as well as similar efforts by Norman Maclean and Bruce Catton (A River Run's Through It and Waiting for the Morning Train respectively). Fitzgerald does not quite achieve the level of Twain but he certainly aim's for the same target.

This is a great book for anyone interested in Utah or western history or a fan of Fitzgerald. ... Read more
