4-0 out of 5 stars Engineering drawings lack detail:o(
I bought this book specifically for the engineering drawings, they are for the 351W only and the bell housing to block dimensions have plenty of sizes missing, nothing relates back to the crank CL and the dowel positions are missing. Don't waste your cash if you are after drawings for the 302.

As an editor at the English Review, Ford Madox Ford worked with and often offered aid to writers such as D. H. Lawrence, Ezra Pound, Joseph Conrad, James Joyce, e. e. cummings, and Ernest Hemingway. Within this collection, he recalls the energy of those writers he championed and his efforts as a patron, editor, and friend. These essays demonstrate his skill as both an editor and literary critic. Though it is hard to overstate the impact that Ford Madox Ford has had upon literature of his age, he is easily recognized as a shaping force behind Modernism. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Custom Merc Owners, You Gota Have This Book
As a new owner of a 1950 Mercury and new member of the custom car world. I wanted to get as much information as I could about my 1950 Merc and the custom work previously done on it. This book had eveything that was done on my car in it.. The book also has a section with custom ideas from other owners, and because of it I am changing the entire front end of my car because of it. I am not much of a mechanic, and I am dealing with car shops I want to be as informed as possible. IF you own a Ford or Merc from the early 50's or you are planning on owning one. You Have to get this book. Thank You Tex Smith, and Randy Johnson for writing, and publishing company Motorbooks International for publishing this book. Get It.......

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Highly Recommended!
I have not seen a better book than this regarding the building of Custom Fords and Mercs. It covers in detail all of the standard body, and more importantly, mechanical modifications that are commonly done to these cars. There is a great wealth of ideas in here, including things you may not have thought about,or have heard of,but did not understand why or how these modifications were done.It is absolutely required reading for anyone who is planning to build,or have built for them,a Custom Car.Don't start without this book in hand! ... Product Description
This timely Reader brings together, for the first time, key writings on the relationship between law and geography. In so doing, it has fostered the creation of an intellectual forum for scholars and students in related disciplines, who have - until now - been working in parallel, rather than in tandem. Although a recent area of study, the intersection between these fields is becoming increasingly important with the recognition that space is socially produced and that it is riddled with power relations.

The chapters in this Reader are organized around geographic scale - local, national, global - and each section includes an introductory essay contextualizing the selections and explaining their contribution. The topics covered include public space, local racisms, property and the city, environmental regulation, state formation and decentralization and international-global legalities. A comprehensive introduction reviews the current state of the field.

Representing some of the most provocative and interesting approaches to law and geography by an interdisciplinary group of acclaimed contributors, Legal Geographies Reader will serve as an important reference source to this expanding field. ... Read more

Product Description
Well established as the premier sports anthology, The Best American Sports Writing embraces the world of sports in all its drama, humanity, and excitement. This year's illustrious contributors join the ranks of such celebrated writers as George Plimpton, David Remnick, and David Halberstam. Their exceptional talent and experience continue the series' tradition of excellence, which prompted the Boston Globe to hail it as a "venerable institution".Amazon.com Review
A couple of years ago, RichardFord himself was included in this annual anthology with apersonal--and funny--meditation on hunting with his wife. It's nosurprise, then, that Ford, one of America's finest novelists (The Sportswriter),would turn to DavidMamet, one of America's finest screenwriters and playwrights(Glengarry GlenRoss) to anchor his superlative collection of the year's bestwith a very personal and very funny meditation on a deer-hunting tripin Vermont to mark his 50th birthday. "As a hunter, of course, I am afraud," Mamet admits without much prodding; as an observer of themacho milieu, however, he hits the bull's-eye: "To hunt deer in thickwoods in a snowstorm is one of the most beautiful, happiest, thingsthat I know. I was enjoying it so much," he confesses, "that I missedthe deer," which were passing in front of him a mere 20 yards away.

If Mamet missed his deer, Ford misses nothing, bagging trophy pieceson Ali (by DavidRemnick), Michael Jordan's finale (by DavidHalberstam), a Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo (by JohnMcPhee), the end of Cal Ripkin's streak (by ThomasBoswell), bowling (by SteveFriedman), pool (by J.D. Dolan),and women's pick-up hoops (by Melissa King). Tradition--and sevendecades of good craftsmanship--brings ShirleyPovich's final Washington Post column into Ford's sights aswell.

"There's just something in the American sensibility thatvalues joining the often primal yet contrived acts of sport to theintensities and suave logics of well-made prose," writes Ford in hiskick-off to the volume. "It seems to free us.... Plus reading sportsmay be the only reading for pleasure most Americans ever do." TheBest American Sportswriting 1999 certainly adds to that. --JeffSilverman ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Celebrating JESUS!:)
I bought this as a gift for my dad for Christmas so Im not sure if it's good or not... I didnt want to give it any stars because I have no idea about it but I had to give it atleast one star.So dont take my rating as a "true" rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Home Run, Touchdown, Triumph
If you've liked previous editions, you'll enjoy this one, too. Same formula, and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of human-interest stories from the sports world. Choosing a favorite or two is tough, but I love the bittersweet ones, such as about one of baseball's great "bonus baby" players who never panned out, or about the insane distance bicycle racer.

I'm delighted to see an article from a blog breaking through the "print barrier" in the series. I'm a little disappointed that so many stories came from the NY Times, as well as a couple of plain things from the Washington Post.A little more edge and a little less conventionality has been nice in other editions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sporyswriting as Literature
The 1999 edition of "The Best American Sports Writing" has plenty of moments that will enthrall avid sports fans and even those less avid who merely like a good story. The series is a national treasure, which collects the best sports related writing every year and puts it into a single easy-to-read volume. The sports included run the gamut from the traditional team sports of baseball and football to more extreme examples like mountaineering. The main requirement for inclusion is great writing, and that's wht this series delivers consistently.

The best articles in the 1999 edition include Thomas Boswell's account of Cal Ripken's voluntary stoppage of his historic games played streak, Steve Friedman's biographical article on tormented 2nd generation professional bowler Pete Weber, Allen Abel's hilarous tribute to the long-folded World Hockey Association, and Adam Gopnik's insightful explantion of why World Cup Soccer fails to excite American fans.As always, the quality of the reporting means that even if you have only a margainal interest in the sport described, you'll still find it entertaining.

Overall, another fine entry in an outstanding series.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been longer
Hard to believe Amazon.com can't keep their years straight when it comes to reviewing this series. Anyway, the latest collection of sports writingwas all right but nothing special by the usual high standards. It's asmaller collection than normal, and there are a few hunting and fishingpieces that I couldn't get into. That didn't leave a whole lot, althoughwhat was left was pretty darn good. I particularly enjoyed the articles onthe parents of a benched high school football player suing the school, andon the 1998 World Cup. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential reference
For anyone interested in garter snakes, this book is the Holy Grail. Its chapters summarize a tremendous amount of work done on the genus, and make this book the one reference to consult first when doing any research on garters. It covers all thirty species, including many from Mexico and Central America for which data is limited and that I had never heard of before. I'm very pleased with it, and refer to it often.

But bear in mind that this a scientific monograph. As monographs go it is surprisingly accessible, but it does not pull any scholarly punches, and some parts of it will be beyond some readers, particularly children. The species key, for example, refers to measurements that no amateur or casual observer would be able to make, but it does so in order to be correct rather than easy.

That garter snake researchers need to own a copy of it goes without saying; amateurs with a serious interest in garters ought to buy it as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars The only "must-have" snake book
There is far too much information in this book to be summarized in a review.Suffice it to say that the book is fascinating:the writing is clear, the conclusions sound, and the research extensive. For most othervarieties of snake--other colubrids, boidae, vipers, even elapids--there isno shortage of books, and books covering even individual species areplentiful (think how many books are devoted exclusively to Boa constrictorssp., for example). And while most of these books are worth reading once, the majority say little that all the others don't say, too.Garter snakes, however, seldom rate more than a paragraph or two in any snake book, andthere are very few books devoted exclusively to garters (I can think ofonly one, offhand). This book, however, gives garters the attention--andgives the reader the information--that the species deserves. If one is aratsnake enthusiast, or a python person, or mad about milksnakes, there areplenty of books worth reading, but few that are indispensable. If one is abreeder, researcher, or simply an interested layperson regarding gartersnakes, however, this book is one that simply cannot be done without.

5-0 out of 5 stars Any garter enthusiast will want this in their library
This wonderful compendium of gartersnake information is a treasure for lovers of Thamnophis. The color plates are wonderful, and the biological information is fascinating.Who would have guessed that some gartersactually brumate (hibernate) in water?A great gift for any gartersnakekeeper. ...
