Buena Obra De Teatro
Hola,Como estan?:

Definitivamente puedo decir que Garcia Lorca es uno de mis autores preferidos,como estudiante de teatro,esta es una de sus mejore obras y de verdad que se las recomiendo. Personalmente amo el Trabajo de Garcia Lorca y por eso le doy un 5 stars. Espero qu ele guste esta obra tanto como me gusto a mi.

POWERFUL, ROMANTIC....
This is an incredible play, and it is hard to imagine that it was written so long ago, for it has an everlasting effect... It deals with culture, bitterness, love, loss, tragedy and family.

It is above all a book aboutthe great expectations a young girl has with life, and how her mother and sisters destroy them.It is a sad tale, but it is written in such a powerful way that you simply cannot put the book down without finishing it.

Es un libro conmovedor que hable de la cultura, la familia, la tragedia, la separacion y el amor...
Los personajes son muy reales, crudos y a veces muy crueles.
Habla sobre una joven y sus suenos, asi como las consecuencias de sonar y de querer lograr mas de lo que se esperado.
Es una historia triste y tragica pero escrita y manejada de una manera incomparable por un escritor brillante.

muy interesanta para los estudiantes de espaniol
i have read this play 3 times in classes for spanish language literature, and i just can't get enough. it is tough at times, vocabulary and such, BUT well worth it! tugs at the heartstrings and takes a good look at the way women were treated and considered in those times. buena suerte y si alguien quiere platicar conmigo de esta obra, mandame un email a tcherepashka@aol.com!

Just learning the man
Fun to read with my daughter.She asks to hear the stories of the bugs that cry (actually a lizard).Great fun to read the spanish, with accompanying english; Kudos to the creative editor!

Not Really for Kids
This is a book of poems for adults remembering childhood. Poetic forms and "nonsense" rhymes merge with adult loves. Even in these "children's poems," Lorca's affair with the theme of death emerges, in poems like The Rider's Song:

Cordova. / Distant ... alone.

Black mare, big moon, / olives in my saddlebags. / Though I may know the roads / I'll never arrive in Cordova.

Through the plains, through the wind, / black mare, red moon. / Death is watching me / from the towers of Cordova.

Aii how long the road is! / Aii my valiant mare! / Aii Death that waits for me / before I get to Cordova!

Cordova. / Distant ... alone.

I don't particularly like Will Kirkland's translation. Frequently, he translates "Ay" as "Aii," when an English "Oh" seems more appropriate. In the example above, "Aii how long the road is" would read better "Oh, how long the road is." In many instances, the technically correct translation loses the poetry of the original Spanish. I wish more attention had been paid to retaining the poetics, even, perhaps at the expense of a literal translation. Maria Horvath's illustrations are quaint, reminiscent of a bygone era.

Five stars for content, four stars for translation & illustration. Don't get it for your children, get it for yourself. A great excuse to polish your Spanish!

Everyone should read it
Lorca's poetry has this wonderful way of combining folk song elements with children's rhymes and underneath it all there is something very real and very moving. His imagery is wonderful and simple, his rhythm is unique, and there a genuine and beautiful melancholy to it all. Yup. ... Read more

"Death disguises itself as Love."
Lorca's plays are as interesting as Lorca himself is. This is the only publication that I could find containing "The Butterfly's Evil Spell." I have seen two versions of the play and can not wait for another. However just reading this play will being images of life its self to you and you can visualize what it would be like as a beetle-poet in love with a butterfly.

You will find yourself quoting many lines.
