Product Description
Written by a leading thinker and visionary whose ideas and principles have been adopted by countless investors.Amazon.com Review
Invoking the words and spirit of Thomas Paine,investor-turned-historian John Bogle concedes that his ideas forrevamping the mutual-fund industry are perhaps "not yet sufficientlyfashionable to procure them general favor." But despite likening the"ills and injustices suffered by mutual fund investors" to those "ourforebears suffered under English tyranny," Bogle--founder of theVanguard Group--makes a strong case for index funds with thisexhaustive study of investing.

He begins with primer-like essays on investment strategy, championingmutual funds for their inherent investment value, and then grindingeach point home with a bevy of graphs, charts, entertaining anecdotes, and common sense. He repeatedly stresses time as a basic tenet forinvesting, listing these simple rules: "Time is your friend"; "Impulseis your enemy"; "Stay the course." And then he proceeds to blast fundmanagers, who have become marketers rather than managers.

The trade-off between the profits that accrue to fundshareholders and the profits that accrue to the fund managementcompanies seems subject to no effective independent watchdog orbalance wheel, despite the fact that the shareholders actually own themutual funds.
It's an interesting concept: smart, reasoned investors can all butsecure their financial future, but the system itself, run unchecked byfund managers, needs a major overhaul. And considering the amount ofreasoned, historically based support he includes, readers will have ahard time finding fault with the sometimes controversial Bogle. Equalparts instructional and crusade, Common Sense on Mutual Fundsdeserves the attention it's likely to receive. Recommended. --RobMcDonald ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful intro for investors
I would recommend "Commonsense on Mutual Funds" as a must read (or listen) for anyone getting started. This book will help investors understand the need to be efficient and disciplined over due time rather than incurring higher costs in the hopes of beating the market and getting rich quick.I think Bogle is able to outline investing strategies for an efficient market theorist concisely whereas "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" offers a more expansive version for those who have the attention span to digest it.Both books are must reads.I have found the audio versions of these books to be a wonderful way to boost my investing IQ during commutes.Ultimately, this topic may not be as sexy as the get rich quick gimmicks out there...but it is vital knowledge that is anything but common knowledge amongst the working class and novice investors.I think for those managing their 401k's, keeping management costs down over the long haul through indexing can be the world of difference to one's bottom line after 30+ years. This book can help people better understand how to manage their own portfolio's effectively.A very small investment of time and money into this book can provide an impressive boost to your long term returns.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Condition!
The book came sooner than expected and was in better condition that I had thought it would be!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bogletastic
This book is Bogletastic. I bought this book for a young cousin of mine that ask me for some investment advice. Ever cautious on such an important topic, I thought that Bogle's book which has helped guide me over the past 15 years of investment would be perfect. Low cost, diversify, save more than you spend and don't ever think you can time the market (I have tried OOOOOO lordy I have tried).

Read it, gift it, whatever it, but get it.

Vaya con Dios amigos,

1-0 out of 5 stars Confusing
This is not a very good textbook and should not be considered if you desire to learn chemistry. The text is not understandable even though I have a masters in chemistry from CalTech.

The organization is not well structured and it's hard to believe that people actually like this book. The writers of this book try to "cram" as much information as possible in each chapter which is NOT necessary. It could be sucessfuly done if they spread out the information and concepts.

HOWEVER, he book problems are excellent.I'll give them that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of first year chemistry
This book is very well written, with helpful diagrams and detailed examples. It is easy to understand and text and with this book it is truly not hard to understand chemistry and do well. I easily got an A in Chemistry I and I believe that everyone who failed the class simply didn't look over the book or their notes after class. It certainly wasn't the fault of the professor or the text- both explained chemistry very well.

5-0 out of 5 stars From D to B+
I had difficulties solving chemistry problems I also bought many books but when I found this one in My local library I was extremely happy with the simplicity of the text problem examples
THIS IS THE BEST BOOK FOR CHEMISTRY CLASS EVER ....I HAD A D IN MY FIRST CHEMISTRY CLASS NOW I AM GETTING As AND Bs Every household should have one .... The best book by far

5-0 out of 5 stars Chemistry - A Study in Life
This book is a leader in the chemistry field, superior to any I've seen. Its explanations are thorough, yet concise. If you are a student, and you have any doubts about the effectiveness of this book, expel them from your mind. This is a book for autonomous thinkers, as it gives you a strong footing in intermediate Chemistry, allowing you to think for yourself. The media companion is also helpful. It brings the book to life, helping those students who work best with visual stimulus.Perhaps you do not have a computer in your home, but take the time to use this tool at your school. As for the teachers, you may have my assurance that my time spent as a student using this book was made more complete only by my professor's lectures. Please consider this book a valuable addition to your Chemistry library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
This book was more helpful for me than my professors' lectures! It is very helpful for all general chem students, including those who hate chemistry (I do not). ... Read more

In 2002, the Policy Center on the First Year of College (supported by The Pew Charitable Trusts, The Atlantic Philanthropies, and Lumina Foundation for Education) sponsored a project to recognize colleges and universities as "Institutions of Excellence" in their design and execution of the first year. Thirteen colleges and universities—representing a broad spectrum of campus types—were selected as exceptional institutions that place a high priority on the first-year experience. Achieving and Sustaining Excellence in the First Year of College includes case studies of each of the thirteen exemplary institutions. These studies illustrate and analyze the colleges’ best practices in teaching, assessing, and retaining first-year college students. The individual case studies offer lessons learned and have broad potential application beyond the particular type of institution represented. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better Perry Mason stories, conspiracies abound
This case is one that is baffling at the outset when a man confesses to the crime of an unsolved hit-and-run when he didn't do it. Perry Mason is handling the case for the victim and an advertisement was placed in the paper offering a reward for information leading to the identification of the perpetrator. In the best tradition of the murder mystery, you learn at the end that this bit of information is the key to explaining the crime of a double murder.
The case is compounded by an elaborate trap set for Mason that leads to his fingerprint on the murder weapon, a fact that forces him to take the female suspect (Lucille) as a client. When a witness places Mason at the scene of one of the murders with the suspect, he is forced to lay a counter-trap for Sergeant Holcomb, a plan that works very well and earns him private praise from Lieutenant Tragg. Gardner does an excellent job in creating a story where the Lucille is portrayed as sweet yet hard, you are sympathetic to her plight yet there is always enough doubt so that you think it is very possible that she was part of the murder plot. I found it difficult to put down until I finished the last page.

McCormack began his playing career in 1976 with Clydebank, making over 100 league appearances and scoring 24 times before joining St. Mirren in 1980. A similar length of service followed at Love Street before a 1984 move to Dundee, which saw McCormack spend a couple of years at Dens Park. In 1986, McCormack moved back to the west of Scotland, spending single seasons with Airdrieonians and Partick Thistle before retiring in 1988. Following his retirement from playing, McCormack moved back to Dundee as assistant manager, becoming manager in 1997. Just months later, McCormack was sacked despite Dundee leading the Scottish Football League First Division and went on to join Queen's Park. In November 2002, McCormack was appointed manager of Greenock Morton, guiding the club to the Scottish Third Division title in his first season. After losing a large lead at the top of the Second Division near the end of the 2003-04 season, McCormack was sacked in September 2004. He also had an assistant manager stint at Stenhousemuir but left within a month to become manager at Scottish Junior football side Bellshill. McCormack was appointed manager of Scottish Third Division side Albion Rovers in May 2007, guiding the side to seventh place in his first season.
