Product Description
Sky Gilbert boldly challenges the boundaries of gay politics and politically correct intellectualism in this book, an intriguing and sexually charged story of a university professor's trysts with his younger male students. Never afraid to confront even the most taboo of taboos, Gilbert sets his novel in a conservative, small town university, allowing him the platform he needs to bring the difficult subject matter to the fore. The novel relies on humour, too, to propel the suspenseful plot through its tortuous twists to the end. Gilbert's skill as a dramaturge is most evident here, as he delivers his off-the-wall ramblings in the intimate style that is now his trademark. His approach allows a much wider audience a chance to explore the world of gay subculture, unhindered and unintimidated. This is the sequel to his critically acclaimed debut novel, 'Guilty'. ... Product Description
Is this the beginning of the Apocalypse?

In a riveting archaeological detective story, Adrian Gilbert takes us back -- from the wisdom of the ancients through the secrecy of the early Christian world. Using the same techniques that unlocked the secrets of the Egyptian pyramids in The Orion Mystery, Gilbert penetrates the mysteries of prophecies set forth in the Old and New Testaments.

In Signs in the Sky, Gilbert brings his acute understanding of esoteric astrology to his investigations of ancient Egypt, the pyramids, and the Bible. He explains how the constellation Orion, known to the ancients as the primary symbol for "the Son of Man in heaven," is the key to understanding many of the prophecies contained in the Book of Revelation as well as other books in the Bible. In this startlingly original book, he provides answers to some of the most profound questions of our time such as: Are we now at the end of one of history's great ages? And what does the next one hold in store? Buried within the Old and New Testaments, Gilbert has found what might be the key to our future: the signs in the sky. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money :(
I'm sick of these books. It's the second book in a raw that takes unrelated facts, mixes everything and comes to conclusions. The author uses a specialty software called Skyglobe and informs the position of stars and planets for a precise date. He uses facts that he discovered during his trips, quotes from the Bible, prophecies, but these facts prove in no way his conclusions. The quotes from John or Mathew's gospels can't be seriously used to come to the conclusions exposed in this book. For instance, when Jesus predicts the "eagles being around the carcass", how can the author conclude that Jesus meant that the carcass is his own body after the crucifiction, and the eagles are the 7 planets in the sky? The book is quite hard to follow and to read. At times, unless you are a serious pyramid specialist or astrologist, you'll need to do additional research or you'll be totally lost. Many facts come from nowhere and you need to accept them to keep going the logic of the book. I think the hardest to believe in the book was the key that opens the stargate. Does the author really believe what is written? Come on... I will donate my book to whoever wants to read it. Not worth it, really.

4-0 out of 5 stars Discoveries of great significance
Gilbert takes the Biblical prophecy about signs in the sky heralding the end of the age and the birth of a new one, to mean the movement and position of the constellations. He explores the significance of the constellation Orion by investigating its importance in ancient Egypt, in other kingdoms of the Middle East and in esoteric knowledge.

The astrology that he investigates has nothing to do with the occult or the real or imagined influence of the stars on our lives, but instead with the cycles of time and how they are recognizable in the positions of the constellations. The keys to the ancient wisdom are found in astronomy, archaeology, the harmonics of proportion, numerology and astrology.

Gilbert describes the insights he gained over about three decades that included visits to Egypt, Israel and Turkey. He looks again at the pyramids as chronometers of the Bible and by considering the work of pioneers like Charles Piazzi Smyth and contemporary authors like Robert Bauval and Graham Hancock.

He makes extensive use of the SKYGLOBE computer programme for establishing the position of the constellations at the time of Jesus life and death, which he puts at 29AD. The figure of Orion corresponds closely with the concept of the cosmic Adam as found in the Kabala. Gilbert maintains that the Giza plateau is a map of time, of the present age of Adam.

He identifies Orion as the main symbol for the "Son of man in heaven," and this a key that unlocks further prophecies in the Books of Revelation and Daniel. He integrates these discoveries with descriptions of his visits to Jerusalem, the Temple Mount and the Mount of Olives.

Gilbert also takes into consideration the geology of the Holy Land and the major changes that might come about if there were a major earthquake. The Mayan calendar date of 2012 is also dealt with in the light of his discoveries, in particular the mystical marriage in heaven that will take place that year between Orion and the planet Venus.

I think Signs In The Sky is a book of great significance. I found some parts too technical in his detailed explanation of measurements, geometry and astronomical calculations, but I suppose the detail is important in making his points. The book concludes with four appendices: The Architectural Gnosis, A Chronology In The Stars, The Lion Of God and The True Date For Easter And The Fatima Letters.

There are also extensive notes, a bibliography and an index. The text is enhanced by black and white maps, illustrations and stellar signatures, whilst the 33 beautiful color plates include photographs of the pyramids, the Sphinx, the Wailing Wall, Dome of the Rock, the Mount of Olives and a beautiful esoteric painting, Opening The Stargate: 29th June 2000, in which the spirit of Orion as the Alpha and the Omega instructs St John as he writes the Book of Revelation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A prelude to the great revelation
Signs in the sky is a book that starts off at one compass point but gradually extends out to several different points. Using the intriquing fact that both the Mayan calendar and the ancient Egpytians predicted the end of the world or a great cataclysm would take place in the year 2012, Adrian Gilbert proceeds to tackle, the ancients' knowledge of Astronomy, Biblical prophecies - even sayings by Jesus which have survived in the Gospels extant, and premises the belief that we are in the `End times'.

The book is thought-provoking from start to finish, and really is like a detective story, especially when Gilbert recalls his time and experiences in the Holy Land. It's then the purpose and meaning of his mission unfolds itself, like a hitherto unwrapped present. This part is the most compelling, his travels and experiences around the Near East delving into the ancients' passion for Astronomy and to divine arcane knowledge. It is here he is most effective, as he convincingly proposes the solution to the mystery of the Pyramids and their direct relevance for today and in the midst of his quest, discovers formidable evidence connecting Jesus and Christianity to Egypt - something long held by `Heretics' to be true.

It will appeal to different types of lay readers, as it is quite adaptable in its tone: Astronomy lovers, New Age devotees, Apocalyptic messengers, and even aficionados of ancient religions can find something of note in it. Gilbert - describing himself as a believing Christian -, at times on his quest, is overwhelmed by startling discoveries coming at him in bolts, as legion as autumn's leaves falling from their trees.

The main weapon in Gilbert's armoury, - which will appeal to the scientifically-minded and those influenced and convinced by evidence based on computers and technology -, is his uncanny resorting to a computer programme of the stars. When he enters data for the Constellation of Orion and planetary movements, the results reveal great significance presently for the Holy Land and also point to some sort of future event and rare astronomical alignment occurring. At this point, it behoves one to ask the question: could both the Mayans and the ancient Egyptians really be right? The strength and merit of the book is that its solid foundations give rise to such questions.

The Signs in the Sky is a book for these times; entertaining, profound, apocalyptic, but also logical and scientific. Everything moves at a swift pace - the essence of a detective story. But most of all, the book is not depressing or pervasive with a sense of foreboding. The author has an optimistic outlook; he feels that whilst there will be great changes and upheavals in the world, ultimately the great revelation, may not be that bad but may actually herald some sort of renewal.

4-0 out of 5 stars Signs In The Sky
is a well researched and very interesting book on how ancient prophecies in the Old and New Testament are astrological signs in the sky. For example: when the ancients talk about the Son of Man they meant the constellation of Orion. Y ou just have to read the book for your self, it will keep your mind busy. This book is filled with a lot of intersting information about the pyramids, the Bible and so much more. This book will make you think.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent effort put into this book
First I want to say that the reader will be pleased with the amount of research that carries into this book. Many authors in fact omit much of the research they worked hard at, but I am surprised at the amount of supportive evidense here. (A mini Bible plus). Second this book does not stick to biased religions making it more balanced for the person who just likes plain straight up reality rather than speculation. The only thing that I cannot agree with here is the time frame in question for what would be thought of as the final days. For that I strongly recommend reading a great book of science and prophecy, SB 1 or God By Karl Mark Maddox. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Astrological / Astronomical Interpretation Of The Pyramids
This book presents theories about the pyramids and the scriptures that are based on astronomical and astrological ideas which to me are truly ludicrous.

From appendix 2:

Standing on Mount Sanai, Moses is able to measure out the pi angle with the shadow from a staff when the sun is conjuct with Rho-Leonis.

The above statement ties in with an earlier statement:

Thus if Aaron or Moses had erected a staff 7 cubits in length on this day it would have generated the magic circle of 44 cubits in perimeter or a square of sides 11 cubits: the sacred number of Thoth / Hermes.

Also when it says in the bible that Aaron threw down his staff and it turned into a snake and ate the snakes that the Egyptian magicians had created from their staffs, this means Aaron's staff was longer so its shadow was longer and covered the shadows of the Egyptians' staffs.

So the fact that Aaron had a longer staff than the Egyptian magicians was important enough to include in the bible ?

This is just the tip of the iceburg as far as rediculous theories which are presented as being factual and based on a lot of research.

From the book again where it talks about the conclusions that were reached by the pyramid researchers of the 19th century:

Though with the benefit of hindsight it is clear that their methodology was wrong, in that there is no logical connection between the measurements of the tunnels and the unfolding sequence of history, their intuitions about the pyramid's significance as indicating the end of the present age were correct.

Rather with the benefit of my hindsight of reading this book it is clear that this book is wrong in almost every area.

Even so I gave it three stars because it ties in with the author's travels through the Holy Land and other places which involved a lot of work and in some cases actual danger.

The book starts out interesting with the author hitchiking all over the United States.

But ultimately this is astronomical mumbo jumbo gone haywire.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and thoughtful perspective.
Recently I have been on a little non-fiction reading rampage. My main phase of interest is prophesies, omens, signs etc. This book seemed the perfect match to peruse. Right away I could tell Mr. Gilbert put a lot of research into this project. His open admission of Christianity at first made me little apprehensive worried he would put his bias on the book. Not so he writes informatively on his subject, teaching his readers' not only that "as above so below" is not only an ancient dogmatic catch phrase, but a true parralel in our universe. I also learnt much about Ancient Egyptian mythology that fascinated me, and Gilbert's theories on Christ's education, and Egyptian influence on Christianity is a view I pondered and although still need to explore more before I buy into everything he wrote on subject Gilbert definitely gave readers theories to think about including the foretelling and prophesies regarding the end of this age. Before I give away too much I will end this review saying in short Signs in The Sky is highly educational, thought- provoking work on subject matter that many have written about but Gilbert does so classily, and objectively. ... Product Description
Divorce in America is the subject of Gilbert Sorrentino'srelentlessly disturbing first novel. Tracing the New York-to-SanFrancisco journey of a family as the husband and wife try to maintain theillusion that the marriage can be rescued, The Sky Changes records theimaginable damage they inflict upon each other in order to forcethemselves towards divorce. Along the way, their two children becomevictims of the parents' failures and are dragged throughout the tormentof this disintegrating marriage.

No other novel in American literature is so narrowly dedicated torecording close-up the devastating pain of a marriage falling apart andthe doomed-to-fail efforts to make it work. And no other novel soperfectly captures the moral bankruptcy of the United States as abackground to divorce. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Divorce in America!
"Divorce in America" reads the large print heading on the back cover blurb of Sorrentino's novel The Sky Changes. The novel chronicles the last ailing days of a tired marriage headed precipitously towards a bitter split. The front cover shows an anonymous two-lane road, extending out and away over a hill that leads to some far beyond. Here is the road that will carry Husband and Wife, Children and Driver, across the country, on roads that lead forward always to some imagined place, some Mexico. The dynamic of relation in this marriage, and the road trip across America where it all unfolds; here is the study, subject and structure.Sorrentino has talked in interviews about his respect for the Oulipo poets, and their disciplined structures, how it frees up space for creative expression.

"The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees oneself of the chains that shackle the spirit... the arbitrariness of the constraint only serves to obtain precision of execution."
Igor Stravinsky

The structure: the towns, the stops, and the things that happen there. Jacksontown, Ohio, Indianapolis, Indiana, Urbana, Illinois, Memphis, Tennessee, Jackson, Mississippi, Lawton, Oklahoma, Gallup, New Mexico, Grand Canyon, Arizona, Las Vegas, Nevada, Bakersfield, Madera, and San Francisco, California. The episodes are patched together with flashbacks and flash-forwards, an exercise in teasing out the infinite singularity and process of the end-game of a marriage.
The subject: Sorrentino enters into the silent and hidden world of soured love, and faces knife-edge tension with word-detail precision and attention, exposing the secrets and strains to all the world. This is the stuff that never gets talked about, the stuff that gets harbored in the tormented minds of those involved and subsequently hushed up when the end comes and the marriage falls apart."Divorce in America" reads the heading on the back cover blurb. This book does what sociology can only hint at, with its statistics and social norms. Here is the source, a biting and unforgiving look at the sick state of relations in our society. And yet, there is an implicit sense of hope, that maybe if this hidden disease is exposed, that there can be a more careful and considered approach to this thing, love. But The Sky Changes is littered with broken minds and trapped hearts, skeletal souls scattered across the tired landscape of America, waiting, perhaps, for some kind of release.

5-0 out of 5 stars Certainly, this is one of Sorrentino's best yet.
The man is nameless, yet we begin to know him personally. His sadness, his anger, and his frantic attempts to salvalge a marriage damaged beyond repair are emotions apparent in the pages of the book, The Sky Changes. Gilbert Sorrentino has written a compelling psychological novel in which aman travels across the contry with his children and his driver, and a wifewho no longer cares for him. The man recounts his thoughts as he headswest, giving us an intimate look at the cracks of his marriage; crackswhich ultimately lead to the shattering of lives. Sorrentino, who haswritten many books in the past, gives us one more reason to understand whyhe has been the recipient of many prizes for his past works.Certainly, this is one of his best yet. ...
