4-0 out of 5 stars Horace 3 as good as Horace 1 and 2.
Holly Keller, That's Mine, Horace! (Greenwillow, 2000)

The third Horace adventure is aimed at teaching kids to respect the property of others. Horace finds a truck on the playground after recess that he really likes and swipes it. When its rightful owner tries to claim it, Horace lies about it, then promptly gets ill. Complications, as they say, ensue. This one's interesting because it's not only aimed at showing kids how they should behave, but also giving parents something of an object lesson about how to effectively get kids to admit when they've been lying. Another good Horace book. *** ½

Product Description
The influence of the Roman poet Horace on Ben Jonson has often been acknowledged, but never fully explored. Discussing Jonson's Horatianism in detail, this study also places Jonson's densely intertextual relationship with Horace's Latin text within the broader context of his complex negotiations with a range of other 'rivals' to the Horatian model including Pindar, Seneca, Juvenal and Martial. The new reading of Jonson's classicism that emerges is one founded not upon static imitation, but rather a lively dialogue between competing models - an allusive mode that extends into the seventeenth-century reception of Jonson himself as a latter-day 'Horace'. In the course of this analysis, the book provides fresh readings of many of Jonson's best known poems - including 'Inviting a Friend to Dinner' and 'To Penshurst' - as well as a new perspective on many lesser known pieces, and a range of unpublished manuscript material. ... Product Description
The #1 Dallas Morning News regional nonfiction bestseller now throws open its earth shattering secrets for the entire world to see! Gripping from its opening page, WHEN ROCKS CRY OUT pulls you into a real-life deadly chase that uncovers the 'Forbidden Histories' of a 16th century friar who followed Columbus into the Americas. Uncovered ancient maps and writings show the real ruins of four of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World that were thought to have vanished from the earth. The secrets hidden within those Wonders explode the very foundations of what we thought we knew about the world and where we had come from.Listed by the Dallas Community Colleges as a “must read,” WHEN ROCKS CRY OUT ties together riddles from the Old Testament with ruins of abandoned cities that are thousands of years old…and thousands of miles away from where we thought those cities would be.Often reading like a page-turning novel, this could be one of the most important books written in the last 500 years. From the discovery of Egypt’s lost ancient capital, Memphis, to a stunning hidden burial city built by the Pharaohs, to the secret ruins of King David’s famed city, this book moves past recent promises about 'codes' and brings you to the real-life secret that was the explosive reason for the creation of the codes. Da Vinci’s Code? Solomon’s Key? Those clever puzzles can’t reach the significance of the mysteries unraveled in this book. And the things in this book are real! WHEN ROCKS CRY OUT…it is a book for those who have reached a point in their life when they just want to know the truth. Finally, we can trace where our ‘blood’ has been and what our ‘blood’ has done. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "When The Student Is Ready -- The Teacher Will Arrive...!"
As a collector of books -- I feel so fortunate that the "CREATOR" put me in the right place at the right time in order that I might receive a personal invitation to read this most extra-ordinary book -- directly from the author. As an avid reader, I was more than happy to add this newest treasure to my "special" collection of books.

I had no idea what to expect -- therefore, I read the book with an open mind.I remember before I actually received my copy of the book the author "also" saying to me that: "that book could disturb something in your understanding" -- because of what I shared with him of my knowledge of "The Sibyls" by Vivian Hunter-Hindrew. Need-less-to-say and as I relayed to the author -- "my ability to discern -- which is very high, is capable of digesting the information in your book -- sorting out what I need and bypassing the rest."And this is exactly the approach I took and I was not disappointed!

In accordance with "Fair Use in Copyrighting" I here state that the author meticulously spun out every single detail of his "unchartered" secrets; I then retraced his every source and reference -- beginning with that special map mentioned on page 17 and ending with the location of the hill on page 194 -- and I found not one single contradiction.Mr. Butler wrote in first person -- a writing technique that is sure to please and capture all reading audiences. Therefore, this book ranks top shelf.

PS ...so go ahead and get your read on -- I promise you -- you won't be disappointed; however, you will acquire additional "new" knowledge that you did not possess prior to reading this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Now it all makes sense to me!!!
There will be many red-faced and angry persons shouting "lies, nothing but lies". Why? This book shatters the status quo we call history as it is taught worldwide by those who profit from it being hidden. He found ancient cities of the bible that scholars had been searching for but not in the Middle-East, in Central and South America. You would think historians, archaeologists, and theologians alike would be shouting Horace Butler's finds from the rooftops but they're not.

Oh I believe him when he wrote he couldn't get historians , theologians, and archaeologists (black or white) to lend their credentials to supporting his written work When Rocks Cry Out. It's super shameful how the serious Black scholars ran from supporting the evidence that the ancient cities of the bible had been found. Instead they're saying it will not fit into their argument about blacks in ancient Kemet. If anything this book would solidify their arguments about the "Original" people of the Negroid or Africoid phenotype as being global people setting up civilization all over the planet.

We're living in a new paradigm so brace yourself this is just the beginning of truths surfacing that will rock the masses to their core when all the lies created by a certain group of people start crumbling away. Read Africans and Native Americans by Jack Forbes for a description of the people European explorers found when they landed in North, South, and Central America (to include the Caribbean Islands). Thanks to Horace Butler we know them to be the descendants of ancient Hebrews, Moabites, and Egyptians.

5-0 out of 5 stars When Rocks Cry Out
This book is an eye opener for those who question what History says about His-Story.If you've ever thought about scientific evidence, archeologic finds/studies, cultural studies, etc., this book will make you second-guess all that you ever thought, heard or learned in your life.Pick this one up...you won't be disappointed!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars If only...I could believe it...
This book was well written. I read it in two days and was surprised by the amount of "research" put into the work, however...Some of the sources in his book are nearly impossible to find. Therefore It cause me to doubt the authenticity of his claim. Secondly, I loved the first 100 pages of his book. After that he tailspins into conjecture with little supporting evidence except his word for it, which is not good these days. He makes claims like "Adam means Edom" but offers no coo-berating evidence to support such a claim. He does this countless times and goes as far as saying that "these forbidden histories" fell into his lap through visions, dreams, and luck. I don't buy it. I take it as a great fictional read. I"m not saying that their is no truth to this lie, but their is too much layering that needs to be uncovered to believe this outright.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truth at Last
It's TRUE! The emperor IS wearing NO CLOTHES! No wonder I've never understood or liked studying history! It seemed hollow, boring, irrelevant. Now I know why...textbooks all over are based on REALLY erroneous foundations. This HERO of a scholar has bothered to unravel the biggest human puzzles for us all, but the truth from these rocks will shock. These truths sing in harmony with reality. It's the ultimate "Who's Who" as told by themselves thousands of years ago. But it will change your view of the world today.Spanish version asap please! And MORE books from Horace Butler please!!

Product Description

The writings of Horace have exerted strong and continuing influence on writers from his day to our own. Sophisticated and intellectual, witty and frank, he speaks to the cultivated and civilized world of today with the same astringent candor and sprightliness that appeared so fresh at the height of Rome's wealthy and glory.

The Satires and Epistles spans the poet's career as a satirist, critic, and master of lyric poetry, as man of the world, friend of the great, and relentless enemy of the mediocre. "Horace," writes translator Smith Palmer Bovie, "is the best antidote in the world for anxiety. His Satires and Epistles demonstrate the good-humored freedom of a man who has cheerfully assumed the responsibility for making his own life not so much a 'success' as the occasion for a true enjoyment of virtue and knowledge." Bovie's impeccable translation, along with Clancy's edition of the Odes and Epodes, offers the reader a complete and modern Horace.

3-0 out of 5 stars Didactic Poetry
Horace's collection of Satires and Epistles have always been left in the shadows of his Odes and Epodes due to this very reason--that they are didactic rather than aesthetic. In this work, Horace gives modest moral and social instruction to his correspondents, while in his Odes and Epodes his lust for life and the beautiful give the reader something much more palatable to digest. What one will find here that may be the of most value is his Ars Poetica, which hands the novice some well-gained advice on how to write good poetry. This work also furnishes itself as an excellent historical source into the world of the Augustan Age.Overall, it must be said that these poems are not quite as entertaining as his Odes and Epodes, yet the reader must consider Horace's purpose in writing them before making any rash judgements. The Norton Editions are of course one of the most trustworthy texts to be found and for the price listed this one is incomparable with any others available. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars good, but make sure you dont have it.
If you already own kepharts "camping & woodcraft"then dont waste your money on this book.it has all just been taken from "camping & woodcraft"
If you dont have it then its a very interesting book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality
The first book that I received was a Camp Cookery cover and a computer book inside, I returned it. The second book I received was a poor zerox copy that I couldn't read so I returned it for a refund. Amazon said they could not refund my money as they had provided a replacement. I'm confused and will not order Amazon sponsored books again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible for building camp and cook fires.
There are plenty of sources that tell you how to make a fire. There are plenty of books on camping, Boy Scout Handbooks and websites all describe firebuilding, or woodcraft, in one way or another. But I still had a time of getting a good campfire going. If the wood was dry then it would start right up, but often turn to smoldering logs quickly.Or we would have nothing available but wet wood. And then there's the "fire ring", which just as often as not is an overturned truck wheel rim.Half of the time I just struggled to get the fire going and the other half keeping it going.Sure I knew that a fire needs fuel, it needs air and it needs heat, but I still almost always came up short.

My able bodied camping assistant had to stand by and watch me curse and throw chunks of wood as I fought to prove that I was a real camper! She decided to take matters into her own hands and got me a book.GASP, did I really need a book on camp fires??Well, this book isn't about camp fires, it's called Camp Cookery, by Horace Kephart and it was originally published in 1910.Keep in mind that this was when people (mostly men) went camping to go way back into the wilderness to shoot or catch something to eat.It covers camp cooking tools, such as the reflector oven and folding broiler.Mr. Kephart advocates a lot of lard and has a chapter on cooking fresh killed game, like bear and squirrel. But the chapter on building fires is invaluable.

I followed Mr. Kephart's advice on building a quick cookfire.I gathered twigs like he suggested, built them like it is described in the book.I lit it off and within a couple of minutes had a roaring fire with no further tinkering. The same thing happened every time I built a fire.I was sold. The rest of the chapter talks about the differences between a cook fire and a camp fire.It also describes what woods are good and for what situations. This chapter alone makes the whole book worth acquiring if you're serious about your campfire.

Other chapters cover cooking gear, making breads and cooking fruits and vegetables, in addition to meat, poultry and game. ... Read more
