5-0 out of 5 stars Get your kid a new hero!
This is the third book and where all the crazy things will get tied up in a bow. The lead character really stands out and so do all the other characters.

BUY the unabridged audio for this and you will NEVER regret it. Brian reads it himself and he has every character voice down pat because they were all stuck in his head for so many years. His history in the BBC also makes his voice in mesmerizing and enchanting so much that you will have a hard time turning it off. You need to buy the Redwall series because the story plays out over a few chronicles so do not just buy the first in the series get the first three. It is a great pick for those who would like more adventure with less magic. It takes place with woodland creatures and could also be considered a coming of age story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bring to life the Redwall adventure!!
Best toy ever!!!

This is a super cool set for Redwall fans. There is a secret code that you can figure out.It comes with a plastic map to build the abbey on top of.It comes with all your favorite Redwall characters to punch out and play with.It has a book with it called "The Redwall Warrior's Code."

I am so happy I got this set! You should get one too.

3-0 out of 5 stars good, but not great
I bought this last year and thought it would be a great decoration for my room. The finished product looks great and it includes a cool little short story, but the durability is very, very poor. The walls aren't very strong, they keep sagging inwards, making the abbey look as if it is going to collapse. you also need to sellotape some parts during construction. the abbey keeps moving around on the plastic 'playmat' and the little paper figures look quite ridiculous. I would not reccomend this to a little toddler, maybe some between 4-7 years of age.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was disappointed in this book. I bought it for my 8 year old. He loves the Redwall videos, but this model was difficult to put together (even with my help) because the directions weren't clear and it didn't stay together after we did find which "tabs" went together. Also, it is not sturdy enough for child's play. I wish I had read more of the negative reviews to that I wouldn't have bought it.

4-0 out of 5 stars fun and worthwhile Redwall paraphernalia
Build Your own Redwall Abbey arrives as a 9 by 12 folder which, when opened, contains in the left pocket a cardboard sheet of 16 punch-out characters and miscellaneous objects, and a nice 16-page pamphlet that tells the story of The Redwall Warrior's Code featuring Cornflower and Matthias. I think the style and the content are consistent with the author's Redwall novels. In the right-hand pocket are an instruction booklet; a foldout sheet that depicts the abbey grounds and opens to about 1-1/2 by 2 feet; 19 pieces which are clearly labelled and fold-out, tuck in and eventually become a rather impressive tabletop abbey, including the great hall (complete with the tapestry hanging over the mantle), the Redwall stairs, a storeroom, bedrooms, the kitchen, gatehouse and outer walls. The gatehouse and walls are particularly satisfying, going up easily and looking great. The material is thin cardboard and the manipulations are more interesting than just simple folds. No cutting or gluing is required though a little bit of tape helps stabilize the model. I think this is a good quality accessory for fans. Assembly takes about an hour and when complete the abbey is fun to look at. There are lots of cool details like candlesticks and birds in the beams and "Redwall" written near the stairs, though I did miss the dishevelled tomes of the gatehouse.

One thing I like about the Redwall universe *is* the availability of interesting supplemental material -- the quiz book, books for younger readers, this abbey. Personally, I would love to see Mr. Jacques publish a Redwall cookbook -- the dishes at the feasts always sound so delectable.

Though this is a bit expensive for older kids and is not sturdy enough for young children or older kids who want to use it as an action figure hangout, I would recommend this fun set-up for ages 8 and up. Because the instructions are clearly written and supplemented with lots of illustrations, this would be an excellent and rewarding intermediate level model for children ready to graduate to a project requiring written insruction, and would be a fun project for parents and children working together. Enthusiastic adult Redwall fans will like it, kids will adore it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cardboard?
Donate your money to the charity of your choice. It will give you more satisfaction and enjoyment. The "cardboard" in this model is more like paper than the paper dolls in days of old. ... Read more

Abandoned as an infant by his father, the evil warlord Swartt Sixclaw, Veil is raised by the kindhearted Bryony. Despite concerns from everyone at Redwall, Bryony is convinced that Veil's goodness will prevail. But when he commits a crime that is unforgivable, he is banished from the abbey forever. Then Swartt and his hordes of searats and vermin attack Redwall, and Veil has to decide: Should he join Swartt in battle against the only creature who has ever loved him? Or should he turn his back on his true father?Amazon.com Review
When ferret Swartt Sixclaw and his arch enemy Sunflash the Mace swear a pledge of death upon each other, a young creature is cruelly banished from the safety of Redwall. As he grows, he seeks revenge on the people of Redwall and finds himself embroiled in a hostile battle with far-reaching consequences.

An epic tale of Redwall from the pen of master storyteller Brian Jacques, Outcast of Redwall is a kaleidoscope of color, range, and emotions that culminates in a bitter contest between good and evil. None of the passion of the earlier Redwall titles is lost, as some of the most cherished landscapes and best-loved characters from previous books are revisited, with a wisdom and clarity that has developed and endured.

On a basic level, this is a marvelous fantasy adventure story. Look deeper and you will find that Outcast of Redwall, along with the other titles in the series, has a divine, enduring quality that ranks it among he best in children's literature. --Susan Harrison ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outcast of Redwall ---- Sentence Giveaway
This might have been my favorite Redwall book, even better than Mattimeo. It was a satisfying story, to me, and I liked the characters, including Sunflash, who may have been my only favorite male badger, as most of the others are too "bloodwrathy" and stern. I liked Swartt, and Nightshade, and I thought Veil was a little funny - "Huh, some warlord."
This is an absolute keeper, to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars A feud's unwitting victim
There tends to be a certain sameness about Brian Jacques's Redwall books--which isn't to say they don't have a charm all their own--but this one presents a new angle. It begins when a young badger who remembers only slavery to a band of vermin led by the ferret Swartt Sixclaw manages to escape his captivity and take with him a kestrel named Skarlath who'd been marked for consumption as Sixclaw's dinner. The badger, who takes the name of Sunflash, vows to destroy Sixclaw and his band, and Skarlath undertakes to be his skyborne eyes and ears.As the tale continues, the two friends gradually make their way into Mossflower Forest, where stands Redwall Abbey, and there Sunflash learns that he is the great-grandson of Lord Brocktree and heir to the Badger Lordship of the Keep of Salamandastron.Meanwhile his continued harassment of Sixclaw's band leads to the unintended abandonment of the vermin chief's only pup, who is found by the Redwall otters and brought to the Abbey to be raised. Many beasts doubt that he can be made into a productive citizen--a ferret is, after all, vermin--and Veil, as the mysterious foundling is named, doesn't seem to be too interested in proving them wrong. When a case of poisoning nearly kills the hedgehog Myrtle, Veil is accused of the deed and exiled from the Abbey. But the mousemaid Bryony who has brought him up can't believe he is bad, and she sets out to follow him.

Jacques's theme--which kids may not catch, but reading-aloud parents should point out--could be interpreted in one of two ways: either "Blood will tell," and biology is destiny, or "Kids become what they're told they are," that is, if more Redwallers than Bryony had had faith in Veil's ability to become a good beast, he might have been done so; as things go, their distrust of him turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy. This tale is set in the days of the grandchildren of Martin, the legendary mouse warrior of Redwall, and follows several characters--Sunflash and Skarlath, Sixclaw and his vixen seer Nightshade, the hares of Salamandastron, the Abbey folk, Veil, Bryony and her molefriend Toggett--toward the inevitable confrontation before the great keep.It introduces some familiar characters, like Bella, the ancient badger, and several new ones with intriguing personalities, like Sunflash, who, although he can be ferocious in battle like all badgers, is really not a warrior at heart (indeed, what he loves best is tilling the ground and getting things to grow), and a hare who, in "head and heart," wants to be--and is, as far as possible--a squirrel archer.Populated as Jacques's universe always is by good beasts (squirrels, mice, otters, badgers, moles, hares, hedgehogs, voles, and the Guosim, the fierce Guerrilla Union of Shrews in Mossflower) and villainous ones (rats, ferrets, weasels, foxes, and stoats), full of song and delicious food, it offers all the delights for which the series has come to be known.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well....
The worst redwall I've read sorry about that but I wanted to read this book because of veil not beucase of sunflash. It seems jacques tried to mage two book ideas into one, bad idea brian. The veil plot was half planed out and another thing is it me or all the critters are dull and the same I mean brian didn't even try on veil. Read if you wanted to just don't expcet veil being the main plotline. P.S. my god the redwallers are pains in this one.
P.P.S. if want to write a book about a bad guy trying to be good NEVER KILL THEM OFF!

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool, but sad.
This book is awesome. I'll totally give it that. The only thing I didn't like about it is it's so sad. There were just so many parts that made me feel dissapointed, betrayed, and just sad. There is an amazing battle near the end, which is great. So, all in all, this is a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't forget to read Outcast of Rrewall
Outcast of Redwall by: Brian Jacques is a thrilling adventurous fantasy but I would not recommend this book to kids who don't like to read. The story opens in the base camp of Sixclaw a evil weasel, where he was holding Sunflash hostage. At the same time when Sunflash was being held to a tree, a birdcame down from the sky and saved Sunflash and they ran away together in to the woods. But little does Sunflash and the bird know is that Sixclaw was chasing them with all of his beasts so that they can kill Sunflash. Sunflash saves and meets a creatures on the way when Sixclaw sees Sunflash at a big battle he runs away so Sunflash has to chase him. When they see each other they battle for a long time but who kills who?
Sunflash the mace is a character driven to kill evil creatures. During the first chapter Sunflash is very weak mentally and physically who was a slave for the evil weasel Sixclaw. After he escapes he became strong and brave again. This creature gets captured a lot but always escapes and usually kills the animals that captured him. Sunflash never gets really tired unless he was just in a big battle. One of the settings was Salamandrostron it was a big city where badgers rule. Also Sunflash was going to be the next king. He got in trouble by the present king by going into a place where no one was supposed to go.
In conclusion The Outcast of Redwall is a book you should read because it is thrilling and it will make you want to read until you're finished. ... Read more

Product Description
Joined by Trimp the Hedgehog, Dinny Foremole, and Gonff—the ever-mischievous Prince of Mousethieves—Martin embarks on a perilous journey to the northland shore, where Luke, his father, abandoned him as a child. There, within the carcass of a great red ship, he finally uncovers what he has been searching for: the true story of the evil pirate stoat, Vilu Deskar, and the valiant warrior who pursued him relentlessly over the high seas, seeking to destroy Vilu at all costs, even if it meant deserting his only son. The legend of Luke and his son, Martin, is a glorious tale from Redwall’s history.Amazon.com Review
Brian Jacques and his tremendous Redwall books never cease to amaze: this is the 12th book in a series that just gets better and better. This time, the interweaving story of a father and a son is told in three parts, starting with a visit to Redwall Abbey by a young hedgehog maid who, by singing a half-remembered song recounting the adventures of a warrior called Luke, begins to unlock some of the mysteries behind the Abbey's early years.

As deftly executed as all the other Redwall books, The Legend of Luke is a truly magnificent, rampaging, rip-roaring adventure story that gives the heart and mind the kind of aerobic workout normally reserved for a sprint round a playing field. From the very first page the readers know they're in for a treat, and as Jacques skillfully builds his story, cleverly interweaving intricate, imaginative detail with a vast cast of incredible characters who each play a vital role in the unfurling of the tale, there can be no doubt that he is still the true master of his genre.

Excellent as a stand-alone read for anyone new to Redwall, and even better as part of the amazing saga that has captured the imagination of millions since its inception, The Legend of Luke is an absolute must-read for anyone--young or old--who likes their fiction fast and fantastical. This story will certainly leave them breathless for more. --Susan Harrison ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Legend of Luke
This was another good Redwall book! I liked book 2 the best; I think Martin was different and not the same as in the other two books he was in. Gonff changed, but was still funny, and Dinny the mole was cute on the book cover, and Beau the hare was crazy. I liked learning about Luke, and his wife, Sayna.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kaeden from Bonney Lake says "great book"
Sets out to find out about his past. This book has 352 pages and is written by Brian Jacques. Do you like books with great adventure and battles? Well if you do then you would love this book. The legend of Luke is a great story about a warrior mouse who
Martin of Redwall is the main character in this book. He sets off to find out about his past. He brings his friend Gonff the mouse thief Trimp the hedgehog maid and Dinny the mole. Along the way he meet Jugger the squirrel Log a Log the shrew chieftain. They venture to the coast where Martin grew up. They find all they need in a wrecked ship off the coast in a column of rocks.
My favorite part in the whole book is when Luke kills the evil pirate captain.
The most important thing I learned from this book is that you can do anything when you set your mind to it.
Other books by this author are Redwall, Mossflower, Mattimeo, Mariel of Redwall, Salamsndastron, and Martin the warrior.
I highly recommend this book, so next time you visit your local library make sure to check out the legend of Luke. I give this book four out of five stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Redwall
The book was in excellent condition and my daughter loved it.Great delivery time.Great seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT book!
This is about, surprise, surprise, a mouse named Luke. At least, one third of it is. The other two thirds are about Martin. Again. Despite weird rumors, this is set in Mossflower, NOT England. And there are NO people. Just mice, badgers, hedgehogs, shrews, otters, squirrels, moles, hares and a rabbit or two. (Rabbits are not in this book.) The bad guys? Rats, ferrets weasels, foxes, stoats, and occasional weird creatures, like marlfoxes, orWearats. There are a few birds, too.
The real story begins in book 2, Luke.
Luke's wife is murdered by a totally evil stoat named Vilu Daskar. (Shouldn't he be Vile Daskar?)
Luke is really really really angry. He fights this fox guy named ReynardChopsnout to get his ship.
He sets out after Vilu to take revenge.

Meanwhile, afemale black squirrel berserker (don't ask what that is)has been captured along with thirty-five other squirrels. (Don't ask why! I'd be spoiling it!)
When Luke catches up with Vilu, several problems cause him and two others to be the only three survivors. (So they think.) When Luke has his final fight against that darn stoat, who'll live?
Luke is prepared to sacrifice everything, even his life.... ... Read more

The second and third books in the series, The Angel's Command and Voyage of Slaves, were published in 2003 and 2006, respectively. Neb/Ben, Den/Ned, Captain Vanderdecken, Angel, Luis the Shepherd, Winifred Winn, Obadiah Smithers, Wilf Smithers, Amy Somers, Alex Somers, Jon Preston, Will Drummond Mr. Braithwithe, Regina Woodworthy, Maud Bowe, Tommo, Horatio, Scraggs, Jamil, Sindh, Vogel, Cap'n Winn, Hetty, Mrs. Smithers, Archie, Mr. Mackay, Dai Evans, Blodwen Evans, Petros, The Chinese Gem Dealer, Bjournsen, Bjournsen's Three Sons The story starts by vaguely introducing a fourteen-year-old nameless boy, who at the beginning has no parents and is a mute. He is found, and made to work with the cook, Petros, an antagonistic character who abuses him. Petros names the boy Neb, which is short for Nebuchadnezzar. One day, while the crew is off drinking in the port town of Esbjerg, a dog wanders onto the ship and is befriended by Neb. He names the dog Denmark, after the country he found the dog in.
