From the supplier: The Brazilian writers' concern in the '70s was political consciouness expressed in journalistic style. Osman Lins, skeptical of the style, confronted instead the literary philistinism of the bestsellers, which he saw as an adverse cultural situation. He then focused on the writing process itself, presenting his esthetics in 'War Without Witnesses.' For him, the writer's struggle starts with the discourse between the writer and the world. His esthetics is transposed in his 'Nine, Novena.' Some of the text in this collective work are geometric and ornamental in structure, transposing medieval and Baroque design into his own time and space. He also merged music, a temporal art form, into literature.

From the supplier: Osman Lins's 'The Queen of the Prisons of Greece' defies Stendhal's concept of the novel as a mirror reflecting reality. 'The Queen' is more like a device of multiple mirrors that reflect and re-reflect the images on the mirrors' surfaces and thus makes the reflection and reality ambiguous. Such ambiguity is intensified as the text unfolds further. As with his other critical text, Osman presents questions regarding narrative structure. Here, it becomes just a conduit for the text of fiction.
