Sherlock Holmes & Dr Watson: A Textbook of Friendship
It is valuable to have this seminal volume (1944) of Sherlockiana available again, albeit at quite a price. It includes, besides a 22-page Introduction and brief synopses of all 60 stories, annotated versions of five of them: A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four,The Final Problem, The Adventure of the Empty House, and the Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans. These were of course superceded when Baring Gould's inomparable 'The Annotated Sherlock Holmes' appeared in 1967, but it is fascinating to see Morley's first attempt at these few stories. The Baring Gould book is often available second-hand at remarkably low prices, especially in the American one-volume reprint, and is much better value than this Morley reprint. ... Read more
