Tros and the Roman Empire turn to the Egypt of the Pharaohs

In this, the fifth volume of the saga of Tros, king of Samothrace, sea captain and adventurer, our hero finds himself once more enmeshed in the web of intrigue that surrounds the machinations of Julius Caesar in his perpetual lust to take and keep power in the turbulent days of Imperial Rome. I had been there a couple of times before the World War, when the Turks were in full control. So I knew about the bedbugs and the stench of the citadel moat; the pre-war price of camels; enough Arabic to misunderstand it when spoken fluently, and enough of the Old Testament and the Koran to guess at Arabian motives, which are important, whereas words are usually such stuff as lies are made of. ... Ben Quorn is a grave digger from Philadelphia who finds himself, helped by strange quirks of destiny, riding an elephant named Asoka through the streets of Narada, the capital city of a small Indian province. Seen by hundreds, he is thought to be the reincarnation of Gunga Sahib, a character in Hindu mythology who is supposed to return some day to restore a beautiful princess to her rightful throne. One of the people who sees Quorn riding Asoka is Chullunder Ghose, one of the most colorful fictional characters ever created. Ghose yearns to be prime minister in the province and sees his opportunity. He encourages Quorn and the only available princess to bring the ancient myth to life and topple the government. His plan is as convoluted as a labyrinth laid out by a drunk--but it ends up succeeding. Myth and destiny conspire to produce the most unlikely of results. ... Read more

Product Description
A highly exciting adventure story featuring James Schuyler Grim, better known as Jimgrim. Jimgrim is an American secret service agent employed by the British and stationed in Jerusalem. With him are his faithful sikh shadow, Narayan Singh, as well as Ramsden, an American, and Jeremy Ross, an ex-soldier of the Australian forces, both eager for a fight of any kind. This opportunity soon presents itself, as the ambitions of the French in Syria arouse the enmity of King Feisal of the Arabs. For his aid in WWI, the Allies promised Feisal the kingship of Syria, Palestine, and Trans-Jordania. This promise they have not kept, however, and the French are out to discredit or kill the Arab chieftain. To further their ends, an order is forged, ostensibly from Feisal to his Arab adherents, which calls for a massacre of the Jews in Jerusalem.

When this message is intercepted, Jimgrim swings into action. With Ramsden and Ross as volunteers, he matches wits and weapons with the powerful plotters who are financed by the French.

With a considerable amount of little-known historical truth worked into the background, Affair in Araby is one of the most colorful, fast-moving, and exciting of Talbot Mundy's "Jimgrim" stories. ... Read more

An oddity from the mystical adventure writer Mundy. He first wrote the story at the behest of producer Thomas Ince. The film, while melodramatic, featured death, romance, intrigue and yellow journalism. Not a year later, Ince dies, mysteriously, on the yacht of William Randolph Hearst.Whispers abound, speculating that Ince got a little too close to Marion Davies. This book is our only account of the lost movie. ... Product Description
Jimgrim and the Woman Ayesha is a short novel by Talbot Mundy (William Lancaster Gribbon) featuring his greatest hero, James Schuyler Grim, better known as Jimgrim. Jimgrim is an American secret service agent employed by the British and stationed in the Mid-East. His adventures, protecting British interests against the French and other countries meddling in the region following World War I, comprise one of the most interesting creations from the pulp magazines of the early 20th century.

\"Mundy\'s forte wasn\'t simply good research; Mundy was a born storyteller. Besides his predilection for creating tall tales around his early life as a scoundrel, Mundy could create larger than life heroes. Unlike creations like Robert E. Howard\'s \"Conan\" or Edgar Rice Burroughs\' \"John Carter of Mars,\" Mundy\'s heroes, while courageous and plenty brawny when the situation required it, were capable of bluffing, playing one enemy versus another, and exploiting the character flaws of foes, and the fortes of his associates — traits largely absent in other adventure heroes of the time. Also, like Mundy himself, his characters pondered the meaning of life, of destiny, a spiritual development that would mold their characters and set them apart from the typical pulp heroes.\" -- Georges T. Dodds, SF Site

Again told from the point of view of a pretty much no-name assistant in events, this details Jimgrim holding together a situation to try and prevent a bloodbath in Jerusalem and elsewhere.

This involves some cunning, making some deals that can't be refused with Ali-Baba and light-fingered offspring of various generations. Plenty of tension, and more than a few camels as James Schuyler Grim coolly does his thing. ... Read more

Her orders were either to wait until she knew by questioning that the section would not return or else, when it had returned, to wait until the memsahib and Bellairs sahib slept, and then to make a sign. They grow tired of waiting now, for there is news! At Jundhra the rebels are defeated, and at Doonha likewise." ... Read more

It was not until they had debouched (as Crothers termed it) to their half-right front and had taken to a narrow one-man track that ran below the wall that any over attention was paid them. Suddenly a hook-nosed Asiatic gentleman emerged through the once-was gateway-- a picture of a Bible shepherd but for the long-barreled gun he carried instead of crook--a brown shadow against brown masonry. ...
