Yuki's career rests on a guilty verdict, so when Lindsay finds evidence that could save the defendant, she is forced to choose. Should she trust her best friend or follow her instinct?

There's a different way to die

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter HATES to read!
I thank goodness for this series. My daughter has never been a reader and always complained at 7:30pm which is reading time in our house - the school system mandates a half hour per night.Ever since i took the chance and bought the first book of this series (which was greeted with "YOU EXPECT ME TO READ A BOOK THAT LONG????") I have been so pleased that I did.Now she says she "kinda likes reading".I would have paid $100 for a book that would make her utter those words.Thank you James Patterson!

5-0 out of 5 stars Escape the computor games
I got this book for my 13year old son to encourage him to read without just looking at the pictures. He enjoyed the first book twice, and hasnt put this one down.He says its a fantasy book about humans with bird DNA and speacial powers, funny and exciting with fights and a little gory.
We are new to ordering online, and while ordering sword of truth for wifes birthday, decided to check out Maximum ride. The book was marked as used and in good condition.I would rate it excellent, minor mark on cover. Price worth it for unknown.
The size of print is a concern to us. If too small he finds difficult to read, some indication would be of help for poor readers. This book was ideal size.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great read!
Book 2: School's Out-Forever was a really good read that was fast paced and filled with lots of action. In Book 2 the flock find's a home with Anne whom they struggle with whether or not to trust.

I enjoyed book 2 more than book 1. Great series for all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU JAMES PATTERSON!!!
I read all the maximum ride books! all of witch were great, but the one that made me never put the book down was this one! all the action the flying and the detail made me jump out of my seat. James Patterson wrote this book like it was real life! it sounded in the book like it felt real to him. well for sure it felt real to me. well thank you and enjoy this action packed adventure.

2-0 out of 5 stars WELL, THIS WAS BETTER THAN.....COME TO THINK OF IT, I CANNOT THINK OF A COMPAIRSON HERE.
Well, I certainly have mixed emotions about this work.First, I must tell you that this is a review of the audio CD version of this book which is read by Billy Campbell who does a very nice job. This set of 7 discs runs for 7 hours and 20 minutes. This folks, is the primary redeeming feature of this entire book.My wife and I listened to it while traveling, usually at night, to various football games our grandsons participated in.It helped break the boredom and it was the type of book that we could hold a decent conversation while listening to the reading and not miss all that much.

Now don't get me wrong. Many of the James Patterson books I have read over the years have been quite pleasing. He is certainly not my favorite author by a long shot, but he has provided me with good entertainment now and again.Alas though, I fear that Patterson has more or less dropped the ball with this one.

This is a story of an extremely whiney guy, who is apparently well education (and a hunk...by his own description) who is a lifeguard.Through a series of very improbably circumstances he is blamed for murdering his four best friends during a art robbery gone terribly wrong, the murder of the perfect 10 ½ girl he made love to in the first chapter, his brother...sort of, and his brother's killer. He hooks up with this hot FBI chick, which he kidnaps, falls in love with and between the two of them they set out to prove his innocence.Big time yawn.

The protagonist, named Ned Kelly, if you can believe that, is one of the most annoying characters I have ever encountered. This is an almost nonstop whine fest from cover to cover. The bad guy is so stereotyped that the author must have pulled him from the pages of a DC Comic.Ned, our main guy, is at times so stupid that he is almost rendered non functional. The FBI hot chick girl, who is a very well educated art expert, is completely unbelievable in the off the cuff decisions she makes. As a matter of fact, it would have been a blessing if both main characters had been "taken out" during the first chapter so I would have not had to listen to them for the next 100 plus chapters.

On the up side, one of the characters, an Australian motor cycle racer has-been, is an absolute delight. Why oh why did not Patterson write the entire book about him and leave most of the characters out? Go figure.

There were some decent action sequences throughout the book. There were some unanticipated twists throughout the plot which were sort of fun, but they were not crafty enough to save the overall story.

Also on the plus side was the fact that I checked this thing out from the library and did not have to spend a dime on it.

I would recommend this one of late night travel, or an endless airline flight, or if you were stranded on a deserted island with nothing else available to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Lifeguard in a Whole Lot of Trouble
Palm Beach lifeguard Ned Kelly has the perfect life. Then he meets seductive and very beautiful Tess McAuliffe. They go out and she's the one as far as he's concerned, however she's tres classy and lives way above his lifestyle. So he decides to throw in with four childhood friends, Mickey, Bobby, Dee and Barney, who have come up with a nice little score that will set them up for life.

For five million dollars they're going to heist three paintings. That's a cool million each and all Ned has to do for his share is to create a diversion by setting off the alarms at some of the other wealthy homes in the area. However when his pals break into the house where the paintings are, they discover them gone. Has somebody beat them to that art? Are they being set up?

While his friends are puzzling this out, Ned hears sirens and panics. He hotfoots it to where Tess was staying, only to see her body being taken out on a stretcher. He goes back to where his friends are staying, only to find cops and four body bags being taken out. Ned doesn't have to be a genius to realize he's in a spot of trouble.

And there you have the beginning of a non-stop thriller that will have reading like you've never read before. If you're not a speed reader, you will be by the time you're finished with this. Ned is in trouble deep. They FBI is after him. He has to find out what's going on before they catch him, lock him up and throw away the key. I just loved this book and I know you will too. Oh yes, I should point out, you'll never ever, not in a million years, figure out the surprise ending.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good beach book
Ned Kelly is a lifeguard who wants to make a quick million by helping his buddies steal some paintings by setting off some house alarms as a diversionary tactic. But the robbery goes wrong, and his buddies get killed. Ned runs for his life, and discovers some terrible truths along the way, as well as some faithful friends.

It's a page turner, and the ending will bring closure, reality, and satisfaction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Patterson page turner
I love James Patterson's books....even the ones he co-authors.I actually bought this for my mom, but read it when she was done.It was good and a really quick read.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Story Is Such A Bore I Can't Even Remember Much About It!
I picked up this book in 2006 at the airport. I was hoping it would entertain me during my 13 hours flight. The book was so boring and uninteresting that I can't even remember much about it except it was a story about a life gaurd taking part in a robbery scheme of some valuable paintings (or was it painting?)that was kind of a setup for insurance claim by the owner.... something like that. I don't really remember. It was not a page turner cause during the 13 hours' flight, I couldn't read it continuously like I did with other books, I had to put it down after a few chapters cause the story was so unbearably boring and dead...

It was such a bad book and a boring reading experience for me that I can't even remember much about it but the fact that it bored me to death on my 13 hours flight! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the worst book I've ever read.
I think this book was a waste of time. I kept reading hoping it would eventually make sense. NOT!! It only has fragments of things thrown together here and there. At the end, it finally tied the characters together but left the plot unfinished. The only thing I was happy about this was that I bought it at a used book store, unlike all my other books, so I wasn't out too much money. If this were the first book I read by James Patterson.it would have been the last!

5-0 out of 5 stars A book to build upon
I read the other reviews and I disagree! I thought this was an interesting read. It makes you think about choices in your own life and think twice about the outcomes. It, in my opinion, points to the argument of when to leave well enough alone and not get into other's business. Kris should have kept her nose to herself and ignored what she saw outside the coffee shop and the outcome would have been different, at least for her. Instead she had to get up in someone else's business by being selfish. The end left me wishing for a sequel! I wanted it to be like a groundhog's day and she would learn from her mistakes and relive her choices over.

4-0 out of 5 stars In the Minority
I guess I really am in the minority as Ireally liked this book. Not my favorite John Patterson but I found it very different. I'm not sure why everyone has so many negative things to say other than maybe they were expecting something different from him? I had to double check to make sure it was a James Patterson book, but it did keep me reading. Maybe I'm slow but I couldn't figure out how they were going to resolve this until the very end. When i think about it how else could it have ended.

I'm glad I didn't read the reviews or I may have missed some delightful reading the past few days.

2-0 out of 5 stars I was warned
I saw the many reviews saying how awful this book was, but couldn't believe a James Patterson book could be as bad everyone said. It was. There are numerous things that happened that did not follow with the plot and made absolutely no sense. I figured they would be explained at a later point in the story and it would all make sense. They were not. They were not ever mentioned again. There were so many instances, I couldn't possibly catalog them all. This is a terrible book. There is no suspense, no logical plot and an incredibly bad ending. I was warned, and now you have been too.

1-0 out of 5 stars I wish I had played golf instead of reading this
I have a hard time believing Patterson had anything to do with writing this book, it seems unlikely to me he even read it, something I am sorry I took the time to do.He must only care about money, and not at all about his reputation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Teenage boys would probably really like it
In this book Daniel X has a job to do....rid the Earth of aliens that are destroying it! He has his friends and girlfriend to help him.

His next job is to rid the Earth of Beta, a demon of fire. Beta wants to turn the Earth into a burnt wasteland. Daniel may have to go back in time to stop him since he has gotten so strong! Daniel has to stop Beta's henchmen also as he goes out on this adventure.

I thought the book was ok, but not the most interesting young adult book I have read, but teenage boys would probably really like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed with twists, turns and high drama
A choice pick is James Patterson and Adam Sadler's DANIEL X: DEMONS AND DRUIDS, a survey of Daniel X, on a mission to eliminate every intergalactic criminal on Earth. His superpower allows him to take on some dangerous aliens - including Phosphorius Beta, the demon of fire. An excellent science fiction story evolves, packed with twists, turns and high drama!

5-0 out of 5 stars James Patterson and Adam Sadler take the Daniel X series to an entirely new level.
With DEMONS AND DRUIDS, James Patterson and Adam Sadler take the Daniel X series to an entirely new level.

Daniel X is an extraterrestrial who had been living with his family on earth. When his parents and sister were killed in a sneak attack by intergalactic criminals, Daniel made it his mission to wipe them all out. He is a fairly powerful guy who is still testing the extent and limits of his powers. He is able to travel in time, conjure up friends from his home planet, and occasionally and randomly experiences visits from his family, even though they no longer exist. It was Daniel's father who gave him a list of criminals who needed extermination the most, and while Daniel has not been following along in numerical order, he has been doing a good job of systematically whittling down the number.

Daniel's primary target in DEMONS AND DRUIDS is Phosphorius Beta, his strongest foe to date. Beta is a demon of fire --- one of the most basic of elements, and arguably the most dangerous --- and, worse, he comes with an army of similarly powered henchmen who are loaded with bad attitude. Beta is not a late arrival to Earth, either; he has been here for over a thousand years, biding his time while increasing his strength. Daniel soon discovers that the only way to defeat this enemy is to go back in time, to Europe's Dark Ages, and confront Beta before he has a chance to become so powerful.

Daniel has some interesting and unexpected allies in his quest. One of them, surprisingly, is his father, who puts him through a bit of criminal-elimination training, where Daniel learns there is much more to the job than he originally imagined. His other allies? Well, let's not spoil the surprise. All I can tell you is that if you are really good at guessing, you will be able to put it together. They also use a somewhat unexpected tool, one that has existed for almost 5,000 years and has been waiting to be put to its mysterious use.

Daniel X has become a franchise, complete with manga, graphic novels and video games that are based on the character being readily available and popular. However, Daniel X originally appeared in traditional books, and it is with installments such as DEMONS AND DRUIDS that Daniel and his friends are most fully realized.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst book I've ever read.
This was the first book I have read by Patterson and his co-authors and it will be the last. I don't normally care much for mysteries but, as an avid sailor, I thought this might be a fun read so it came along on the passage I was making in the South Pacific. I was stunned at how juvenile the writing was but I continued to soldier on as this author is constantly on the best seller list so, surely, he must be good. He was not. The book was completely predictable from page one but what was most distressing was how poorly the authors researched their material. Not only were the characters totally inept and inexperienced when it came to sailing, the decisions made were stupid and life threatening. At every turn I was groaning about how totally incompetent these people were. No sailor in his right mind would make the kind of decisions they did because, if they did, they would cease to exist. Perhaps, I thought, the book was written to appeal to readers who have no knowledge of the workings of a sailboat. Even taking that into consideration was useless as it left me with nothing but nonsense. Just this one novel has convinced me never to waste money on Patterson again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Exciting, but anti-climatic
Sail is a great fast paced book. I couldn't wait to read what happens to the family next or the stinkin lawyer. The end left me feeling dull as I don't think it should have ended the way it did. The girlfriend at the end was an obvious suspect and the hero at the end was unlikely.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!
This book was the best book I have read in a long, long time. Full of twists to always keep you on your toes. LOVED IT! Would recommend this to anyone who loves a suspenseful read

2-0 out of 5 stars Review of Patterson's "Sail"
The plot is discussed elsewhere, and I agree with most of the reviews that claim it is full of holes and logic errors. The lack of correct nautical terminology, and completely preposterous procedure from the Coast Guard, underscores the fact that the Author did no research or preparation for the novel.

But worse still was the performance of the audio book readers. It is difficult to describe how far off the mark, and poorly read I think the book is in the audio performance, so I won't try.Suffice it to say, this was my first Patterson novel, and I was very unhappy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why is this tripe an NY Times Bestseller?
Another book that is supposed to make you cry. But the only tears I shed were ones of boredom. The characters were bland, the plot schmaltzy and contrived and the writing just okay. I couldn't finish it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I cried through this entire book
If you buy this book, make sure you are well-stocked on tissues.I cried from the Prologue until the end of the book. The message "love never dies" comes across very clearly. For anybody who has lost a loved one, this is real inspiration.

Product Description
Alex Cross is back-and so is a raging and suicidal Gary Soneji. Out of prison and dying from the AIDS virus he contracted there, he will get revenge on Cross before he dies. In addition, we are introduced to a new pair of rivals whose paths cross that of Alex and Soneji. Thomas Augustine Pierce has been chasing his demon, Mr. Smith, since the savage murder of his fiancee. Mr. Smith is a unique monster, with actions toward his victims so insane-so unimaginable-that he is thought of as "not of the earth." Pierce, known in the business as St. Augustine because of his track record for catching killers and his invaluable status to the FBI and Interpol, may even be better than Cross. When things heat up and Alex is in a near-death coma following an attack in his own home, Pierce goes to Washington to help with the investigation. But just as he begins to piece together the mystery of how Gary Soneji could have mortally wounded Cross after he was believed to be dead, he is summoned to Paris with a postcard from Mr. Smith inviting him to a very special killing. The body count is high, the tension the highest, and the two killers on the loose are watching every move their pursuers make. Who is the cat, and who is the mouse? What and where is the final trap? And who survives?Amazon.com Review
That monstrous villain Gary Soneji is back in Cat & Mouse, the fourth book in James Patterson's series about Alex Cross, a police forensic psychologist, but he's not alone. In seeming support of the premise that you can never have too much of a bad thing, Patterson has thrown a second serial killer into the mix: Mr. Smith, a mysterious killer terrorizing Europe while Soneji practices his own brand of evil along the Eastern Seaboard. With two killers to track, Cross has his hands full--and Patterson has another hit. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Huh?
NOTE: This review in no way diminishes my love of Patterson's Alex Cross series or his relaxed style of writing. In fact, I started a new Patterson novel last night. That said, I must add that I found Cat and Mouse confusing with Patterson alternating between two equally repulsive antagonists: the vile Gary Soneji in the U.S. and the dastardly Mr. Smith in Europe. The killings in this novel were so brutal they seemed almost gratuitous, shocking the reader for the sake of...well...shocking the reader. And I didn't buy the reasoning behind the murders. Finally, the two stories melded but not to my satisfaction. Abrupt switches in point of view were also jarring. Found myself going "huh?" as I read. I appreciated the romantic development between Alex Cross and Christine Johnson, which will carry over into the next novel - at least - but my gut says the relationship will not end in happily ever after. Enjoyed the continued warmth and familiarity between Cross and his family. Hated giving another of Patterson's novels 3 stars, but that's the best I could do for this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Poor recording, but an exciting story
I have not read many of Patterson's Alex Cross novels, but those that I have read so far have generally been exciting and suspenseful. Cat & Mouse was no exception. As always, I can live without the sex that Patterson inevitably includes but without a doubt he knows how to write a thriller that will keep you on your toes. One downside to this audiobook was that the quality of the recording was not that great--there are two readers and they were obviously recorded in different conditions; the two recordings just did not seem to blend together very well.

Overall, while the poor recording quality was distracting, I did enjoy this book and look forward to listening to more Patterson novels soon. His books, with their short chapters, really do work well for my commutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
My son was very happy with the book I ordered and I was happy with service I received.

3-0 out of 5 stars A page turner I got tired of.
It was a page turner, as are all of Patterson's books, but I can't say I really enjoyed it. There was a strange twist in the middle, but that seemed a little contrived. I have one more Patterson book on my "to read" shelf. After that, I think I'm going to another author for awhile for my mystery/adventure stuff.I will stick with Patterson's graphic novels.Check this out: Maximum Ride: The Manga, Vol. 1

4-0 out of 5 stars Cat & Mouse for Kindle
This was my first book back in the 'Alex Cross universe' in over a year. It was also my very first complete read on the Kindle. With regards to the Kindle version, there were typos. Words were just flat out wrong, looked was used in place of locked, etc. It was only ever one word so it wasn't too distracting but it was still a little jarring to get in to a rhythm of reading and then stumble upon one of these typos.

Aside from the imperfections in the Kindle version, I thought this was a very good book. James Patterson keeps you interested cover to cover. He has a writing style that I love, consisting of a lot of very small chapters. Which is great for people who might just want to grab the book to read for a few minutes. It gives you a natural stopping place.

I would recommend this book to a friend, but would advise them to start at the beginning of the Alex Cross series (Along Came a Spider) so they are up to date on the back story. ... Read more

Alex Cross battles the most ruthless and powerful killer he has ever encountered - a predator known only as "the Wolf. "Alex Cross's first case since joining the FBI has his new colleagues stymied. Across the country, men and women are being kidnapped in broad daylight and then disappearing completely. These people are not being taken for ransom, Alex realizes. They are being bought and sold. And it looks as if a shadowy figure called the Wolf - a master criminal who has brought a new reign of terror to organize crime - is behind this business in which ordinary men and women are sold as slaves. Even as he admires the FBI's vast resources, Alex grows impatient with the Bureau's clumsiness and caution when it is time to move. A lone wolf himself, he has to go out on his own in order to track the Wolf and try to rescue some of the victims while they are still alive. As the case boils over, Alex is in hot water at home too. 1-0 out of 5 stars The Big Bad Wolf
I am almost finished with BBW and have been complaining throughout about the lameness of this book.I have had people tell me for years to read James Patterson, they LOVE James Patterson.Picked this one up in a garage sale for about 50cents. (Glad I didn't spend any more on it.)I'm thinking I could write at least as well as this. After reading some of the other reviews, I'm glad it's not just me. The reviewers are saying what I'm thinking but am unable to put into words.I will continue since I at least have to find out how it ends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big Bad Wolf
Excellent. You will not want to put the book down. It is amazing how James Patterson's characters evolve. You never know how it is going to turn out.

4-0 out of 5 stars IN PURSUIT OF THE BIG BAD WOLF
When Alex Cross first joins up with the FBI, he is assigned to a big case. One involving the kidnapping of men and women in broad daylight--who then disappear completely. The victims are being bought and sold, and the shadowy figure behind it all is a Russian predator dubbed The Wolf.

Every time the agents have a lead, they are stymied. They find and arrest several participants in this ring, but everywhere they turn, The Wolf eludes them. Each time they think they have finally identified him, they come up short.

Meanwhile, Alex's family life is taking a hit, too.His youngest son, Alex, given up by the mother, Christine Johnson, in his infancy, is now the subject of a new custody battle. It seems that Christine is pulling out all the stops and stating that Alex Cross is a lightning rod for danger, which puts his son at risk.

This is a very exciting tale, between the FBI pursuits, bureaucratic hijinks, and various near misses...while on the periphery, the shadow of the custody battle looms.

Until the very last page, I wasn't sure how this would end up, but I knew I had to keep reading.Even though I thoroughly enjoyed this particular Alex Cross adventure,The Big Bad Wolf (Alex Cross), it wasn't one of the best. Therefore, the four star rating.

3-0 out of 5 stars Flawed but not terrible
Hide & Seek was the first book I ever read by James Patterson and despite some flaws I really liked it. Some other reviews complained of its simple writing style and while that can be annoying I found it refreshing different from what I was accustomed to reading. The novel always had me turning its pages as well and while critiques on the characters are valid I thought they were okay. However, the biggest problem I have with this novel is that everything is jarring. For example the novel mostly seems to be told in flashback perspective from Maggie but instead of Maggie telling us when she met Will we hear from both their perspectives before they actually meet. I was glad that I only paid 25 cents for it though, anything over $7 and I would have felt ripped off.

5-0 out of 5 stars happy camper!!!
this was a gift. after several years of searching & several attempts to purchase this book in large print - receiving regular print editions & having to return them - finally - the large print edition!!!! made for a very happy mother's day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad.
I actually kind of liked it of course I haven't read too many of his books.Seems like the two that I have read portray pretty independent women and that is a good thing, right?Especially for Maggie who should probably stay away from men as she seems to have a history of picking out the crazies.Although Patrick was really decent!!!Try it for yourself.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dumb and Dumber
It seems to me the longer these 'prolific' authors keep pumping out books, the worse they get.Using that for a guideline, this may be the last one for Patterson, because they can't get any worse.
I just finished this POS book and the only pleasing thing about it...I got it at a yard sale for 25 cents.Wish I had my quarter back.

1-0 out of 5 stars Laughably bad - but I read the whole thing for some reason.
OK, sometimes you pick up a free paperback on the book exchange table because you need a mindless book for the airport. I had read another James Patterson title, "Kiss the Girls" and although the writing style made me wince, the plot and suspense kept me interested. This one, however, is so bad that you might just read it in disbelief that a publisher could print this nonsense. It is seriously like a high school creative writing assignment. Actually, no, strike that, I don't want to offend any high school students. Middle school? Anyway, it reads really fast and it can be amusing in the way a bad movie is amusing. Just smile and think "I can't believe this was published" while reading your borrowed copy. Garbage. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst ending EVER!!
I love this mans books but I was totally bummed with the almost predictable ending.

2-0 out of 5 stars London boring bridge
I do like James Paterson and the Alex Cross series. However this book left me flat.So many screwy plot lines, people dying and and falling off the story line without any explanation at all.It was way too much of a 'miracle happens here' and the story continues.

I feel like I want my money back!HA HA

1-0 out of 5 stars By far the worst Alex Cross novel yet...
I am an avid reader and I was sucked in by Patterson'sfirst two novels in the Alex Cross series (Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls). London Bridges is, by far, the worst Alex Cross novel so far. What I have come to love about the series is the in depth interaction between Alex and his family and Alex and John Sampson. This novel glosses over this dynamic leaving a great deal to be desired.I found myself skimming pages and just hoping I could make it to the end. I have just begun Mary, Mary and I hope it is the Alex Cross of old!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Read
It's been about a year since Alex Cross has tangled with the Wolf and to his chagrin, the man is still on the loose. Now Alex is kind of a troubleshooter for the Director of the FBI and he's called out on an incredible case. Someone has obliterated a small town in Nevada. Luckily for the residents some military transports rolled into town and cleared out the people just before a plane flew over and dropped a bomb. Unluckily for the bad guys, a couple mountain climbers got a picture of one of Alex's old nemisises videotaping the blast, a crazed killer, name of Geofrey Shafer, AKA the Weasel and Cross has to wonder why he'd be involved in something like this.

It happens again, another town wiped out, only this time no one got the residents out, then the government gets a communication from the Wolf. What has happened to these small towns is going to happen again in the major capitols of the world unless he's not paid a handsome ransom and certain political prisoners are not set free. And if there is any attempt at evacuating the cities he's named, he'll set off his bombs straightaway. So the Weasel is working for the Wolf and they are now considered to be the world's two deadliest criminals and as you would expect, it's up to Alex Cross to find them before they can do anymore harm.

Patterson has not only upped the anti in the card game between Alex Cross and an evil villain, but he's painted a picture of the way the world has changed since September 11, 2001. However, even though sometimes it seems he's painting with a broad brush, he has deftly inked in some detail, letting us in on even more of Alex's personal life and how he deals with his family, even as he races time to save the planet. This is one terrific read. Maybe not as good as the earlier Cross novels, but one not to be missed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh
In the Alex Cross series, this enstallment stalled. It wasn't his typical page turner, but rather a formulaic novel. The entire story was built around this character, The Wolf, bombing four major cities. Patterson spent 250+ pages setting the scene for huge destruction, but then spent two pages on it actually happening. At the climax of the story, when the identity of "The Wolf" is to be revealed,he jumps between 4 different characters being the wolf and then tries to end the novel with none of the four suspects being "The Wolf." Fairly disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars its great
i was surprised when i went to look at the reviews to see that there were many that didnt like this book. i think that most of them are people that like james pattersons thriller mystery stuff. funny thing is that this is the first book by him that ive read. but ive really liked it. its got a great main character. i guess many people that dont like the book are ones that only like to read information about facts. of course im a historical novel buff but i have to have a great story and meaningful characters. and this story has both. so to anyone whos looking to read a book with a lot of heart and wants a cast of characters that have feelings...this is a good one to pick up. please dont listen to the negative reviews of this one. yes the chapters are short...but is that really a reason to judge a book? give it a try i think you will like it. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars So good, I Couldn't Put It Down
A friend recommended this to me as being Patterson's best book, and now that I have read it, I agree. It is part Braveheart, part Gladiator. Hugh De Luc runs a small village inn with his beautiful young wife. But the tyrannical Lord Baldwin and his minions terrorize the village and exact huge taxes and kill and torture citizens. Hugh De Luc goes to war to fight for a better world, only to be disillusioned by the violence. He comes home to find that he has a young son who was killed and that his wife was abducted. He goes on a single minded mission to find her, becoming a jester so that he can infiltrate Baldwin's court. Along the way, he is aided by a beautiful noble woman and a wise old jester.

The book is about love, loyalty, and the dream of a world at peace. One of the best books I've ever read.

3-0 out of 5 stars It was Fun
There is little to no personality in most of the characters, they are developed little beyond simply being what their archetype (the hero, the beautiful maiden, the greedy duke, etc.) would be expected to be, with the possible exception of the protagonist who, since we're told the story from his point of view, lets us see his struggle with belief in God while fighting in the Crusades. Still, the personalities of the characters in the story are not particularly interesting.

No attempt is made to make the dialogue resemble eleventh century dialect, it is written in modern speech, with most of the Jester's jokes sounding like the sort of things you'd hear at a Renaissance Faire.

I mention those two paragraphs at the beginning, because as long as you can get past that, the book is a very fun read. The focus is not on character development or historical accuracy, the focus is on the action and plot progression. The story moves very fast, you're never left waiting for something to happen.

The story itself is fairly straightforward: the good guys are clearly good and the bad guys are clearly bad, no attempt is made at moral ambiguity (generally something I view as a fault, but something I can accept in light reading), and the story consists of watching to see what new terrible thing the bad guys will do to the good guy's loved ones to fuel the conflict and then watching the good guys prevail.

The book plays heavily the themes of corrupted power and authority, and how power affects the common man's life. The book seems like it wants to say something about religion, but throughout the book it seems content never to clearly endorse or condemn it one way or the other.

Basically, if you're looking for a deep read, you obviously won't find it here; if you're looking for a light, fun read then The Jester is a good choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars the Jester,
The first couple of Chapters had me a little confused, but once I got into the book, I continued and can't wait to finish. I like the writing. Easy to read. Quite interesting how this character gets in and out of trouble.

5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding
I have not read anything else by Patterson, so I am not sure what his fans expect from his work. However, I did purchase this for a long road trip, and was exceptionally pleased.I have listened to it a second time as I did a house reorganization project.I Loved the vivid details that allowed for such a clear picture, and the story was well developed with a thick plot.I have to say this is on the top of my list for all audio books I have chosen for many road trips.I have recommended it to several friends as well. ... Amazon.com Review
Taking a break from his phenomenally successful Alex Crossseries, JamesPatterson's When the Wind Blows is as much child's fantasy as it isan adult nightmare. The novel moves away from the gritty Washington, D.C.,setting of the Cross books and follows the daily life of Frannie O'Neill, aColorado veterinarian. After the mysterious death of her husband severalyears before, Frannie retreated to an isolated life in her Coloradopractice. But a series of bizarre events suddenly disrupts her lonelyroutine. On a personal level, she is shaken by her new tenant--KitHarrison. Kit's too handsome and too friendly and he's a hunter (or soFrannie thinks). He's also recovering from a devastating personal tragedy, and, as Frannie eventually learns, he's really an FBI agent using hisvacation to follow a crucial lead. But Kit isn't the one that's got Frannieconcerned. As she says after stopping her Suburban one night to check outsomething on the side of the road: "What I saw was way beyond my abilitiesto imagine, beyond my comprehension, my system of belief, and maybe beyondmy ability to communicate right now. The little girl's arms were foldedback in a peculiar way, but when she lifted them--feathers fanned out." Thegirl is Max, and the mystery of her wings leads Frannie and Kit into amassive conspiracy involving secret genetic research and the scientificmanipulation of the human species.

Patterson, a former advertising executive who coined such catchy phrases as"Nupe it!," knows how to entertain. His chapters are always short (someonly two pages), and his writing is clear and unobtrusive; the readingexperience is brisk--akin to watching a summer blockbuster. The book is notas dark or as weighty as the tales of detective-psychologist Alex Cross, but while some fans may be disappointed by Patterson's migration from puresuspense fiction, his first-person narrator Frannie, has a quirky realismthat keeps this flight of fancy mostly on stable ground. --PatrickO'Kelley ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Well written page turner!
Most of the time when I read the back of a cover and it seems sci-fi, I'm anxious if the author will make the book believable enough to "care" about the characters - Patterson has done this quite well.

The book is a page turner with characters you care about and a while a bit sci-fi, the story is well written where you believe that something like the story in the book can actually happen.Overall, I'd rate the book a solid 8/10.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and unexpected great story

5-0 out of 5 stars Now I know what happened...
I have read both When the wind blows and Lake house... I really liked the books. Yes it IS science fiction.... I don't know why some of you are SOOO discusted with these books... you didnt HAVE to read them... go back to the same old thing you're used to reading, god forbid you use your imagination. I was wondering what happened to these books as I thought there would be at least one more after Lakehouse... I just wanted to keep reading!!! I remember thinking oh geez ... kids with wings... come on. But by the end I was hooked and really fell in love with the characters. So if you are reading this review wondering if you should read these books they are well worth the read. They are different from the serial killers and tricky motive killers you are accustomed to. I wonder if there was ever a 3rd book but all these haters' reviews ruined it for MANY of us who enjoyed these books.... so I am actually going to start the Max ride books... I was hesitant because I would be disappointed if it was a totally different character base. But GEE these books about winged kids SURE flew off the shelves!!! James just has a great imagination.... love all his books!!!!

While the story is good and you'll learn some ancient history the book's end is real boring. You'll finish the book just to know the story but not because it was well written.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book!
Prior to reading this book I had never read any of James Patterson's books. I found it fast-paced and delightful to read. As a history teacher I could appreciate the possibility of events enclosed in the the ending. There were actually three different stories going on at the same time, but all were related which made it even more enjoyable. I am glad I tried the book out and am looking forward to reading more of his books.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing for James Patterson
I have read many of Patterson's novels and I am usually "hooked" within the first two or three short chapters.Other than the short chapters, this didn't feel anything like a Patterson book.It was dull, predictable and a complete waste of reading time.I do not recommend this book to fans of Patterson.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great adventure
I ordered this for my son who loves the James Patterson books.Great Story

2-0 out of 5 stars Lifeless Recount
I didn't think the book was awful, I just found it bland.Nothing bad, just the absence of any life to either the story or the characters.Somewhere within the pages, author James Patterson lets us know how he came up with the idea to write "The Murder of King Tut" and how he simultaneously worked on it along with several of his other more mainstream novels.Perhaps he would have been better off focusing on and sticking with the Alex Cross novels instead of detouring into historical fiction. If you've never heard of King Tut then you might like this book. For me, "The Murder of King Tut" failed to register on my interest meter. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Thomas Berryman Number by James patterson
I enjoyed this book by my most favorite Author and I was very happy with the shipping.
The book arrived in a litytyle over a week.

4-0 out of 5 stars A unique story-telling method
I found the method with which Patterson chose to tell this story to be quite fascinating. While it didn't always work (at times it became quite confusing), I had to applaud his effort and sheer guts for trying it.

What James Patterson did in this book was to tell the story from the point of view of a reporter who is following the story of an assassin - Thomas Berryman. We are basically reading over the reporter's shoulder as he writes his journal, conducts his interviews and puts together his story ideas.Where it falls off the tracks are the occasional places where we are suddenly put into Berryman's mind when Ochs Jones (the intrepid reporter telling the story) doesn't ever manage to talk to him.Ochs talks to Berryman's girlfriend Oona Quinn (neat name, huh?), his friend Ben Toy (who is in an asylum), and various other people surrounding the case, but never Berryman, so putting us into Berryman's mind feels a bit like cheating.

Nonetheless, this is an interesting story and Patterson does a good job of putting us into the mindset of the late 1960s and early 1970s, especially in the south, where racial tensions were still high and segregation was still the norm.Busing was still an issue and the election of a black man (Jimmie Horn) to be the mayor of Nashville was a big deal. When Horn decides to run for Governor, that's when things start to get really ugly and the death threats start to kick in.

It would be very difficult to provide much information about the plot without throwing out spoilers, so I will leave it at that. Please note that this book is written in the vernacular of the time - late 1960s and early 1970s - not the modern "PC" jargon - so if you are going to be the type to get offended by that, please bear that in mind. However, overall I think this is a book that is worth reading - the style is unusual and I'm always about enticing people to read material that pushes the boundaries of normalcy.Give this one a try, won't you?

1-0 out of 5 stars Very off-putting to a new Patterson reader
I've been collecting all the James Patterson books and intended to read them in order over this winter, starting with this one.If I hadn't already bought the ones after this, I probably wouldn't now, but according to the customer reviews the rest aren't this bad. It's encouraging to me that this one appears to be an exception, validating my low opinion of it.It was impossible to keep track of what was happening when, and to or by whom. Now I wonder if I'll be able to enjoy the rest of his books?

1-0 out of 5 stars WHAT ?!?!?!
I've read almost everything Patterson has written, and loved almost all of it (this book and "The Final Warning" are the exceptions).
I purchased this as an audiobook on CD to listen to when I drive out of town. The first time I put the CD in, I only made it a few chapters before I had to take it out.The second time, I vowed to make it further into the book and "give it a chance".Though I did make it further into the book, I still took it out... disgusted.
I found myself wondering what the heck was going on and not caring about the characters at all.
I just couldn't force myself to listen any longer.
This would be something great to play out loud in a horror movie where you wanted to drive someone crazy... or maybe in a POW camp where you wanted to make someone "talk".

Product Description
Now available in trade paperback, this is the heart-rending drama of one family's courage, heartbreak, sacrifice, and triumph in confronting an agonizing medical condition, written by two master storytellers.

Cory Friedman woke up one morning when he was five years old with the uncontrollable urge to twitch his neck and his life was never the same again. From that day forward his life became a hell of uncontrollable tics, urges, and involuntary utterances. Eventually he is diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome and Obsessive Compulsive disorder, and Cory embarks on an excruciating journey from specialist to specialist, enduring countless combinations of medications in wildly varying doses.Soon it becomes unclear what tics are symptoms of his disease and what are side effects of the drugs. The only certainty is that it kept getting worse. Despite his lack of control, Cory is aware of every embarrassing movement, and sensitive to every person's reaction to his often aggravating presence.Simply put: Cory Friedman's life is a living hell.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book - Against Medical Advice
I LOVED THIS BOOK!Definitely a great read that I would recommend to everyone and anyone!

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the book but wonder about the message
I enjoyed the book but wonder about the message that a seriously ill person can just decide to take control and make things right.I believe a positive attitude will help most people, even those with chronic conditions. But it seemed a little reckless to say after 15 years or so of medical therapies that he was going off all the experimental meds and make himself better.Good for him if it worked for him but I'm afraid it would give false hope to others with similar afflictions.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read
This wonderful book moves at the typical fast pace that James Patterson fans have come to expect with a true story that will take you directly into the lives of these courageous people.Don't miss this great read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A compelling read.

3-0 out of 5 stars Season of the Machete
The book arrived as promised in great condition.
The book is one of James Patterson's earlier works (1977),
and is very dated, but still a decent book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Early Patterson
I re-read the paperback so many times it fell apart and had to buy it in hardcover.
The story of Damian and Carrie Rose high priced contract killers who create a bloodbath
on a Caribbean island.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not his best
I have always enjoyed James Patterson. This book was good, but a little more violent and graphic than I like.Still a good read.At the time I bought this book, I also purchased Leith MacArthur's "Losing Amber Lee".That was an excellent book with a different twist.Worth reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Patterson does it again
James once again, gives us a lightning fast, action packed story with twists and turns to make Sherlock Homes grin. I had to read just one more chapter, until I finished the book in one afternoon. Get this one, you'll love it.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible
