3-0 out of 5 stars "YOU WANT TO DO THE USUAL THING?" SCHWARZ ASKED.BURST IN, BUST THE PLACE UP?"

Welcome to STONY MAN # 105 written by Phil Elmore, an author of 7 other books in the GOLD EAGLE line of books. Executioners number 346, 352, 358, 369, 380, and 383. Plus he has also written Stony Man 101 and 105, and Super Bolan #133.Both of the Stony Man books have generally met with very favorable reviews by other GOLD EAGLE readers. In this book, 105, we have the Golden Triangle drug business and Russia: i.e., Burma, Thailand, and Moscow.

This book is a bit like a travelogue as these are some of the sites both Able Team and Phoenix Force visit:Camden, N.J., Atlantic City, N.J., Thailand, Southern New York State, Yangon, Myanmar, Moscow, Buffalo, N.Y., Burma, Syracuse, N.Y., Albany, N.Y., Salem, Mass., and Boston. In my memory, after 20-plus years of reading and collecting these GOLD EAGLE titles, cannot recall encountering so many sites within one novel, usually half dozen different locales is tops.

Our man in black, Mack Bolan, does not appear in this Stony Man book. I missed the big guy, as the Executioner and the two teams always work well with one another. In this Stony Man 105, Able Team works within the U.S. and Phoenix Team works outside the U.S.

Throughout all of the team's movements in the various locations the plot stays crisp enough to focus the reader's attention, no confusion here. The book started a little slow for me but after a handful of pages it began to pick up speed to the point of wondering what would happen next.As usual Phoenix Force is pretty much down to earth seriously going about their mission, but Able Team has the more humor, with "Gadgets" Schwarz how could it be otherwise. A good balance of action and dialogue round out this action novel, with some occasional humor from the Able Team guys.Though with Carl Lyons getting roughed up a bit in action, the humor is not always to the Iron Man's enjoyment.

Both teams are using new hi-tech electronics (NetScythe) provided by Barbara Price back at Stony Man to help get ahead and stay ahead of the bad guys, which are people involved with Golden Triangle drugs peddled in both the U.S. and Russia. Most of the plot is not over the top, nor is most of the action unreasonable. Not much pushing the envelope here, and most readers will come away more than satisfied, providing they enjoy almost continuous action scenes.

Another fairly interesting read from the people at GOLD EAGLE books, if a reader enjoys action/adventure, be aware that no one does it better than the golden eagle.

5-0 out of 5 stars He knows how to get it done
To say that I was raised with Mack Bolan is essentially true. My parents encouraged me to read when I was young and along with Ian Fleming, Don Pendleton was a writer I sought out. I remember my father worked as the superintendent of several housing developments in the Washington DC area, and when he came home on the weekends, he would bring Executioners.

I started picking up and reading them when I was six or seven. That was nearly forty years ago.

I loyally followed Sgt. Bolan through the Mafia Wars, when he lost April Rose, the love of his life, and his campaign against the terrorists. Then Don Pendleton turned the books over to a publishing firm who allowed them to turn to crap.

One story was just like the last story, only the names were changed. It was clear that the writers knew nothing about action fiction, nor the weapons the characters would use.

I quit reading the books a decade ago.

A couple of years ago I picked up one that was written by a fellow named Phil Elmore, and he seems to understand what it takes to write a Pendleton style book.

The newest one, Season of Harm, is a Stony Man novel. Bolan isnt featured in it, but everyone else is, including Jack Grimaldi, Able Team and Phoenix Force.

I wont spoil it for you, but suffice it to say, pick up the Bolans and Superbolans written by Elmore. He can certain write a heck of an adventure story. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "BOLAN MUST STOP THE RUTHLESS TRADE IN HUMAN LIVES"

The Executioner #377, April, 2010, was written by Mike Linaker.Mike is no new comer to the GOLD EAGLE line of books having written several dozen books in this continuing saga.

I have been reading these adventure books since 1986, with most of the books being average to a little better. Every once in awhile one of the books soars well above the 'average' category. This book DESPERATE CARGO not only does that but the book should be used by all other authors as a template for a route to excellence in the Bolan saga.

When I received the book in my bi-monthly shipment it really didn't appeal to me, the subject matter of human trafficking. It is happening but I don't especially want to read 186 pages about it.I want Mack out there fighting other wrongs. Wrong, this is a very well written, a very interesting book, and after ingesting hundreds of these types of adventure books over the past 20 years, for me almost a perfect book.In fact it is one of the best Executioner books I've read in a long, long while.

I'm not going to go into much detail with this one:the action takes place mostly in Holland with some action later in England.A large group headed by one man is involved with kidnapping men, women, and children making huge profits selling them out to various people for various purposes worldwide. He cares only for himself and his high style of living.Blind eye to any suffering.Bolan enters the picture to shut down this operation, no one else has yet been able to do that.Plot sounds usual and just 'ok', right, wrong the way Mike has written this book will keep even the most avid fan of Mack Bolan hanging in there. This a page turner and one a reader regrets having it end.Again for me, this has been one of the most enjoyable Bolan reads in quite awhile. This one may eventually reach a 'classic' level where the Executioner line of books is concerned.

It should be an example to any and all authors for their use to reach the level of a well written, interesting book that reaches the 'excellent' level for this continuing saga. I cannot praise Mike's book enough, this one is great, folks.

Product Description

Hidden in the rolling hills outside Washington, D.C., is the hardsite of America's ultra-covert antiterrorist organization, Stony Man. A force of dedicated commandos and cyberwarriors, this elite, handpicked unit effects surgical strikes against the many faces of evil. Their jurisdiction is anywhere trouble takes them. Their duty to serve and protect. Their missions--completely deniable.

It begins with a tactical nuclear explosion in Russia. Evidence points to the Chinese, who claim it's a Russian trick. For Stony Man, it's the start of the ultimate nightmare as the two countries amass firepower and troops. Soon more staggering explosions rock nations around the globe. At the heart of the horror is stolen tech--a nonnuclear Fuel-Air explosive "T-bomb." Cheap, powerful and clean, it's fallen into enemy hands. As cities crumble under its force, the teams track the covert and traitorous factions wreaking havoc in a game of world domination.

The Cold War just got hot again...

The old Soviet Bloc espionage games have resumed on a covert and catastrophic new playing field: the U.S. financial markets. He has hijacked operation Black Judas, enlisted the KGB's most lethal assassin to terminate operatives, and has begun reshaping a brilliant plot to steal billions of American dollars. But he didn't plan on a beautiful Russian cop on a vengeance hunt, or an American warrior named Mack Bolan in deadly pursuit, gunning for blood and justice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars KGB AND FINANCIAL CHAOS

The Super Bolans from GOLD EAGLE books initially saw the light of day back in 1984, with this newest volume being 122 in a long line of Super Bolans mass market paperbacks.

The GOLD EAGLE series of books have several books in the 'Mack Bolan' line that cover the missions of The Executioner. The only difference between the Super Bolans and the monthly Executioner novels is the extra pages they contain, therefore the story is longer.

This volume returns to a familiar theme to regular readers of Mack Bolan, that is, the Russian KGB and Soviet Bloc espionage.Things may have quieted down according to your daily newspaper, however, Russia and KGB sleeper cells planted decades ago are coming to life around the U.S.Operation Black Judas is being activated and the KGB's "most lethal assassin" is active. But a 'beautiful Russian cop' and Mack Bolan are in deadly pursuit. Look out KGB and its operatives.

Anyone who has read anything in the GOLD EAGLE line of books know they are the longest running series of fictional action/adventure books anywhere, anytime.Try one and you will no doubt be hooked as thousands of other readers are.

Product Description

Nigeria is rich in oil, drugs and blood rivals--on both the domestic and international fronts. Mack Bolan's ticket into the chaos is a rescue operation involving the kidnapped daughter of an American petroleum executive. Her safe but violent return brings the warrior to phase two of his scorched-earth campaign against the escalating guerrilla violence in this country's delta state. Knowing that confused enemies mount ineffective defenses, Bolan launches multiple precision strikes, luring into the open hostile tribal factions vying for control of the oil fields. At the same time Chinese and Russian agents are cutting themselves in on the region's untapped fortune in oil. It's the kind of blood-and-thunder mission that Bolan fights best, the kind of war that keeps him in his element long enough to defeat the enemy and--with luck--get out alive.

A rash of killings among returning American soldiers puts Mack Bolan on the front line of a conspiracy to destabilize the U.S. military at home and abroad. His Russian-born, American-made enemy has infiltrated and co-opted the country's largest radical peace organization, spurring waves of antiwar protests and turning members into mercenaries willing to use violence against veterans of the Middle East conflicts. Media mogul Yuri Trofimov has the power and influence to deliver a propaganda campaign via television straight into America's living room--and enough money to buy hired guns and the cooperation of a corrupt congressman. Despite the sensitive nature of the crisis and the determination of the U.S. government to stop the atrocities, Bolan's doing what a dedicated warrior does best: search and destroy.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book
well written. I have all the books in this series. Each one is and good as the previous.

3-0 out of 5 stars MATT COOPER--MERC

Mack Bolan series #372, still rolling along after 4 decades (WAR AGAINST THE MAFIA,1969). This entry was written by Charles Rogers, who starting wlth say #208 DEATH WHISPER, has written at least 27 other books in the Bolan series.

In this book, #372 LETHAL COMPOUND, Bolan is using his Matt Cooper name to join several other Mercs as they attempt to provide protection for a billionaire, Phillip Eckhart. In the opening chapters Gary Manning works with Bolan but soon passes out of the book.Too bad, for Gary from Phoenix Force/Stony Man added a dimension the book could have used. Moving from a strictly protection job in the U.S. the team moves on to Tajikistan for a rather improbable archaelogical dig (for me anyway-my major in college was anthropology/archaeology), but ultimately finds itself caught between both Russian and Chinese troops in a crossfire, with Tajikistan drug rebels willing to polish off anyone the Russians or Chinese miss. Soon nuclear weapons plus smallpox enter the picture. At this point, the plot becomes almost over-the-top ridiculous.

This book starts off very well with an excellent plot, however, once the team leaves the U.S., the book becomes one that stretches the imagination too far.Too many events intrude causing the plot to become far too complex. It's as if the first part of the book was fitted to a final second part with the two parts not mixing or matching well. The book would have been much stronger had the author keep to the simple body guarding or 'babysitting' of the billionaire and stayed in the U.S.With the billionaire's eventual death, any body guarding they provided must be viewed as falling flat. The reason behind their hire was to keep Phillip Eckhart alive, and they failed. Another failing in the plot.

For GOLD EAGLE and Mack Bolan series fans this book will be required reading, but for the general reader this is not a Mack Bolan/Executioner book with which you should start.Even for a seasoned reader such as myself, half way through I had to adopt a 'keep reading' attitude.I have shelves full of these GOLD EAGLE books reaching back to 1986 and for my personal taste this is not one of the better ones.I know books strike different readers differently, so some may like this one.It is just not one of the more memorable books in the Executioner/Bolan series for me.
