Product Description

On the verge of creating a breakthrough peace initiative in the Middle East, Dr. Sharif Mahoud is on the run, hunted by purveyors of terror who see the true threat of a powerful visionary bringing bitter rivals to the bargaining table. Dr. Mahoud is good for peace, and good for the world--which is why the Oval Office directs Mack Bolan to track down the brilliant negotiator hiding deep within the Afghan hills, locate his stranded family, then get them all to safety. But the mission is compromised from the start with hostile forces dogging Bolan's every move. Soon, the true face of the enemy begins to emerge: beyond the violent radicals and extremist thugs, stand the rich and powerful investors and shadow men who understand that warfare is big business--and will do whatever it takes to keep turning a profit on blood and suffering.

Product Description

When American military personnel are found beheaded in the swamps of Puerto Rico, Mack Bolan boards a plane and lands in a political revolution. As the streets of San Juan turn bloody, he suspects someone outside the country is running the show and the gangs behind the military slaughter are simple pawns in a much more complex game.

After Bolan almost loses his own head in a midnight ax attack, an ambush sends some of his team to hospital. He decides it's time to take the war to the enemy--even if it means bringing down his own version of the apocalypse. Because when it comes to settling scores, the Executioner is the one wielding the ax.

3-0 out of 5 stars Crisis Nation
Overall, a decent effort. Chuck Rogers delivers a good plot (maybe overly ambitious for a 188 page book), and a great cast of supporting characters. The Puerto Rican cops in particular are fleshed out and three-dimensional. I'd like to see them appear in future books.
Unfortunately, the Big Man himself is a two-dimensional cardboard cutout in this story. He is just a generic agent guy, giving out orders and making plans the whole time. Nothing in particular makes this a Mack Bolan novel; he could really be anyone. The few personal events that happen, such as bedding Gustolallo, are not explored at all. What does he think about her, or about anything? Who cares! On to the next ambush!
The action is non-stop, which can be fun, but ultimately empty calories. Action book authors need to walk a fine line between too much action and too much development. Rogers tips well over into too much action in Crisis Nation. One star off for that.
One star off for the ridiculous submarine warfare at the end of the book, and I'm being generous. Bolan as submarine captain, sailing a damaged, jury-rigged mini sub across 200 miles of open ocean? Sorry, this strains the willing suspension of disbelief. Where was the editor? Those 20 pages would have been better spent letting us in on Bolan's thoughts. ... Read more

While tracking them, Mack Bolan discovers he is fighting an enemy nobody wants to suspect--American soldiers.

4-0 out of 5 stars DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO AND 'FOOL'S GOLD'

From Idaho forest fires to the Congo, Mack Bolan book #371 is another book in the long running GOLD EAGLE series, The Executioner. This book written by Russell Davis concerns hijacked gold from mines in the western U.S. being smuggled via ship The Spirit of Brazzaville to the Congo. Our man, Mack Bolan, is trailing the stolen gold that a group called the Katanga Swords led by one Jacques Lecroix has heisted, once the gold reaches upriver in the Congo, 'President Chimola' will use it to solidify his dictatorship and foster further revolution.

Bolan as usual stays in contact and depends on Stony Man Farm in Virginia, but once out of the U.S. cannot rely on even the local CIA in Kinshasa.Somehow working own his on he must recover the stolen gold and prevent the revolution Chimola has planned for the region.Tall orders indeed!

Another fine read introducing readers to the region of an African nation, The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Kinshasa. My research shows that while the author, Russell Davis, has written no other books in the Executioner series, this book does a fine job of continuing the long standing series.A great few night's read from GOLD EAGLE books, best adventure books being published.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE THE BETTER RECENT MACK BOLAN/EXECUTONER BOOKS.

Mack Bolan #370, September, 2009, was written by Mike Linaker, a writer who has written 3 dozen or more books for GOLD EAGLE books since 1988.With this book he has given us one of the better recent Mack Bolan/Executioner novels.

Initially I did not care for the format of the book, however, after a few chapter's read that offered no problem and I began to adjust, even enjoying the format. For example, the beginning chapters take us through a current, up-to-the moment Bolan, then the chapters begin to offer flash backs, resulting with a current chapter followed by a flash back chapter.A bit disconcerting at first but making sense as the reader moves along. This different approach offers a change of pace in reading.

Bolan starts off in Columbia near the Venezuelan border captive as a prisoner, then moves back to Florida as a free man. It takes a few chapters to get into the rhythm to know whether Bolan is operating in the near distant past or the 'now' timeframe.Bolan's mission as agent Matt Cooper is to determine what became of ivestigative reporter Maggie Connor and also just what she discovered in her job involving Santana Incorporated. The chief baddie in this corporation of drugs and crime is its president, Raul Manolo. Almost everyone Bolan will encounter is in the pocket of Manolo, a problem that will take some sorting out.Mack Bolan is just the guy to find out the hired guns, crooked politicians, arms sellers, corrupt ATF and other assorted law officials in both America and Cuba. The action present within the novel swings back and forth from Florida, Columbia to Cuba.

A truly engaging novel with all the dash and suspense one finds in only the better GOLD EAGLE novels in the Mack Bolan/Executioner series.I have hundreds on the shelf from 1986 and feel this one to be one of the better ones.Live large.

3-0 out of 5 stars A TRIP TO JAVA AND INDONESIA

Welcome to The Executioner/Mack Bolan book #369 written by author Phil Elmore, author of 3 other Mack Bolan books: 346, 352, and 358.

I give the author great credit for a well written book concerning pirates in Java and Indonesia, espescially in the city Semarang. Also involved in the plot is an acidic compound called Theta-Seven, a chemical product originated by Saudia Arabia, one that is so deadly the Saudis now want to destroy every supply of the compound before it can fall into other's hands.Unfortunately an ex-Russian naval captain has a supply wanting to seek revenge on the evil western powers by using it against them.It is Matt Cooper (Mack Bolan) now called upon to solve this potential problem.

Again, the book reads well and the author has taken Bolan to a part of the world we do not normally encounter, yet the book for me was no more than a average read where the Bolan saga is concerned. Some other reviews elsewhere have given the book a better review than mine, however, for me the novel was another of those Bolan books I could have stopped reading midway through. The subject was just not to my interest, as it possibly may be to others.Cruise ships, poisonous gases, and kidnapped passengers, intertwined with international politics is too close to the most current morning newspapers for my taste.I prefer the Mack Bolan saga involved in other things.

5-0 out of 5 stars A top-notch Bolan adventure
I too have read over 100 Bolan-related books (that is, Don Pendleton-branded books), and I agree this one ranks among the best. I thought the first few pages of chapter two could have been handled better--introducing Bolan into the story felt a bit like the mission briefing in a video game--but after that the book takes off and is one of the best Bolan adventures I've read in years. I couldn't recommend this book more highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars DOUBLE CROSSED IN BURMA

As stated in other reviews, I have shelves full of the GOLD EAGLE books Mack Bolan, Phoenix Force, Able Team, and Stony Man, 20 years or more, and I enjoy most of them. This book, however, is the equal of many of the better ones.

Mack Bolan #360 takes us along with the Executioner to the forested areas of Burma, hiding out to avoid several teams bent on killing us. The teams stalking us are from China, India, Burma, and a drug lord's thugs. They are well trained and well armed and they are very serious about recapturing elint stolen from China that agent Lily Na wants to turn over to Taiwan. The elint has to do with the missle layouts of China and China is very intent that those missle plans nor Lily reach Taiwan. China and the other forces at work against Bolan are being directed by a CIA mole who is only in it for the money. Bolan can not make a move that the trackers do not know about, and on this mission Bolan and his group must keep on the move or perish.

Mack Bolan is on his own in Burma yet as he moves along he gains help from an MI6 agent, Nyin, and eventually an Indian named Sikander Singh, both of whom along with Lilly Na, must evade and escape all the other mercs on their trail, or face torture and death. From numerous close calls, to blowing up a train, to destroying a Buddhist temple, the action is almost without let up. The author, Charles Rogers, has written one of the better books in the Bolan saga, one that can rank with some of the best.

Readers of the Bolan series will find much in this book to enjoy, from the bonding of Bolan's rag tag group to the tightness of plot and excellent writing.Recent books have suffered critical comments from several reviewers, yet I found this book very interesting as I think most GOLD EAGLE readers of the Executioner series will too.
