From the supplier: The proposed change in House Rules to require a three-fifths majority approval of legislation to raise income taxes should be abandoned. Such a supermajority requirement is against the original intentions of the Framers of the Constitution, as is demonstrated by arguments in 'The Federalist' numbers 58 and 22. The structure and language of the Constitution and congressional practice also fail to support such a measure. The rule change would warrant judicial intervention in House affairs that have up to now been managed through self-restraint.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now That's Some Spooky Stuff
What a great book of RK Post's warped and beautiful visions of fantasy and horror. This hardcover book has a comprehensiveselection of the cream of the crop (to date) that RK has painted and drawn, including Klick Klack, Unmask (Magic The Gathering card art), Avatar of Hope, Avatar of Will, and, yes, it has the girl gunslinger in the black duster coat as well.

I only wish that RK had put in comments for each of the works.

If you liked his paintings that appeared in the yearly Spectrum books, this would make a great addition to your library. ... Read more

Product Description
The fourth volume of the annotated selected letters of Benjamin Britten covers the years 1952-57, during which he wrote three major works for the stage - the Coronation opera Gloriana, the chamber opera The Turn of the Screw, and the full-length ballet The Prince of the Pagodas - as well as important vocal works such as Canticles II and III and the Hardy song-cycle Winter Words. Correspondents include librettists William Plomer (Gloriana) and Myfanwy Piper (The Turn of the Screw), and friends and collaborators such as Edith Sitwell, E. M. Forster, Basil Coleman, Imogen Holst, Francis Poulenc, Lennox Berkeley, the Earl of Harewood and Britten's partner and principal interpreter, Peter Pears. The volume charts Britten's growing stature as a major figure of the European musical establishment as composer, conductor and pianist, and his continuing involvement with the Aldeburgh Festival, the English Opera Group, and Covent Garden. Central to the period is the world trip undertaken by Britten and Pears and the first-hand encounter with the music and cultures of Bali and Japan that were radically to inform Britten's compositional techniques from Pagodas onwards. The comprehensive and scholarly annotations vividly evoke a key period in twentieth-century musical and cultural history, and offer a wide range of detailed information fascinating for both the Britten specialist and the general reader. Published in association with The Britten-Pears Foundation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Costs of Fame
This fourth volume in this magnificent biographical series finds Britten encountering some of his most tangled difficulties in the opera Gloriana (working with a shoulder injury and a resistant soloist, as Peter Pears thought he was miscast as Essex),and the ballet Prince of the Pagodas. The latter could only be completed after a long musically enlightening trip to the Far East, where Britten met the gamelan orchestras of Indonesia and the Japanese No plays (which led to the writing of Curlew River). Britten and Pears have become world famous by now, and give concerts across the world, at great stress from Britten's stage nerves. The topic of Britten's fatherly, but nonetheless attracted, relationships with teenaged boys is sensitively explored. (Selections from his letters describing the Far East trip to schoolboy Roger Duncan are included.) The first Miles in Turn of the Screw brought out Britten's fragility in this way: here Britten's relationship with Pears , "intimate, tender, loving, supportive and creatively inspiring", saved Britten from making a terrible mistake.(The boy remembered him as "a gentleman" and was unaware at the time.) The dramas of the English Opera Group and the Aldeburgh Festival continue, and Britten's colleagues have cause to confront both his delightful and decisive sides. This volume is dedicated to Imogen Holst, Britten's invaluable music assistant, with entries from her engaging diaries. ... Read more

Product Description
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on vegetable materials used primarily for plaiting including bamboo, rattan, reeds, rushes, oster, raffia, prepared cereal straw, and lime bark in China face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying vegetable materials used primarily for plaiting including bamboo, rattan, reeds, rushes, oster, raffia, prepared cereal straw, and lime bark to China? How important is China compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of vegetable materials used primarily for plaiting including bamboo, rattan, reeds, rushes, oster, raffia, prepared cereal straw, and lime bark vary from one country of origin to another in China? On the supply side, China also exports vegetable materials used primarily for plaiting including bamboo, rattan, reeds, rushes, oster, raffia, prepared cereal straw, and lime bark. Which countries receive the most exports from China? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for vegetable materials used primarily for plaiting including bamboo, rattan, reeds, rushes, oster, raffia, prepared cereal straw, and lime bark in China. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for vegetable materials used primarily for plaiting including bamboo, rattan, reeds, rushes, oster, raffia, prepared cereal straw, and lime bark for those countries serving China via exports, or supplying from China via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where China fits into the world market for imported and exported vegetable materials used primarily for plaiting including bamboo, rattan, reeds, rushes, oster, raffia, prepared cereal straw, and lime bark. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for China in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that China is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize China compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes. ... Read more
